Roles/Classes List

Recommended Posts

Hey guys thinking of some cool roles to play as in DayZ. If you have any ideas for new ones feel free to add on!

ASSAULTER - Carries heavy weaponry such as M16s or LMGs. This player leads the team in combat and must have above average PVP skills.

MEDIC - A medic carries most of the medical supplies, food, and drinks. They will stay a bit behind the team with an average weapon such as an M1014 or AK.

SCOUT - A scout is a lightly armed player who is the first to move in on a looting run. They will inform the squad of valuable gear, zombies, and players. This is a hard position because you could be the first to die but you will be greatly respected.

ENGINEER - This player is the medic of vehicles. They are in charge of carrying things such as Jerry Cans, Wheels, Rotor assemblies etc. They will carry average weaponry but will have the largest backpacks.

SPOTTER - This player will carry heavy weaponry and will guard and spot for the sniper. They will stay back with the sniper spotting zombies/players for the squad. They will also be the first to receive a map, binoculars, and a rangefinder. This position is also a navigator for the team.

SNIPER - This is a pretty obvious role... This player will be the first to receive camouflage clothing and any rifles. This player will carry advanced weaponry such as M14s, DMRs, and M107. You must have precise aim and have no lag. The sniper will stay back with the spotter eliminating threats.

Who is leading the chaos? have to have a "head honcho" or your just a fart in the wind. In large milsim communities there are always "command sections" slotted before any other role.. command sections usually have a Commanding Officer or Platoon lead, with Radio telephone operators (in DayZ's case, just people who relay the commands to the peeps) and obviously one for each attachment or "Squad". Then the Medic is in there too for safety's sake (but there are usually medics in the squads, either way works) You have Platoon Sergeants who are like the 2nd in command and really just get to yell at the mofo's out of line. Last of all, there are Attack coordinators who control the use of major assets like CAS, mortars and arty. JTAC's* FAC's* both the same thing.. but that's what goes into the command end. The "head" if you will.

Edit: does your clan condone hacking? It would be a shame to have to find out there are hackers after you've signed up..

I was thinking the head/leader would be the sniper (maybe even spotter) because they are the ones over watching everyone and advising them of things in the area. And we fking hate hackers :P They just are complete n00bs who can't play the game so they watch a 10 minute tutorial titled HOW TO BE A DOUCHEBAG IN DAYZ. I really do not like hackers and think they should be IP banned from every server.

Why do you need to have classes? I feel that if everyone carries a little of everything, the only two classes you need are snipers and people that just have their favorite gun. My squad plays like this and it works. Everyone just has a secondary or sidearm that is silenced. No need for medics because everyone has medical supplies. No need for engineers because all of the gear is in the cars. It's much similar this way.

Rocket said that they didn't want to add classes or roles, although I would love to play as a Sniper (it's the same thing I do in-game with my clan)

I think most of you have misinterpreted what the OP has said.

He isn't giving "perks" and such, he's just saying play as a group using these classes; pretty much roleplaying. Hence why this isn't in the Suggestions area.

If he wants to play this way, let him play. He is merely "doing what I can with what I've got." [beans to anyone who gets that reference.]

Me and few friends of mine used to Role play our group like a military squad stranded on whatever map we were on fighting off the zombies and we had Rolls pretty similar to these, that stopped when one day we were "clearning the LZ of hostiles" a.k.a killing all the zeds in Elektro so I could land the chopper when suddenly we attracted the attention of several bandits. 4 of my 6 friends quit that day.

Now I role play as the lone survivor of that incident, on a mission for justice. Hence why I am a bandit hunter. But I was the "sniper" But we called the role "Over Watch". My call sign was Zulu Romeo :P

got 2 more advanced ones for you

Pointman: m14 AIM or enfield and silenced pistol

a cross between the scout and sniper/assault after the scouts recon the area you send the pointman in before the rest to silently take care of the biggest threats or secure a hostile area for the rest of the squad like an LZ or building for the squad, traditionally quiet but not afraid to hold the line for the rest of the squad

Suppresor: LMG or AR with GL and PDW

this heavy soldier is similar to assault with the exception that his/her primary directive is to either defend a set location or block off a line of sight with suppresive fire and plenty of ammo, best in conjunction with a soldier that can watch his fkanks and hold ammo he doesn't have room for, the suppresor is supposed to be a complete roadblock if you need to defend a key area or hold off a frontline in the rare occasion of war with bandits or other survivors
