PVE Objectives

Recommended Posts

I just started playing Dayz, I love the game and the concept.

No I know the game is PVP and I love it. But what if the game had PVE objectives! Hold on to your pants I have a cunning plan.

The ideas I have are;

1. You have a dependent/s (a npc who follows you around) and cannot do anything, (Children, wife, husband, granny). You need to protect them (Food, shelter)

2. Support a community (There are many ways to do this) Get quests, etcs.

3. NPC's to kill/protect/make friends with for equipment.

4. places to attack / capture that fractions control

My first thoughts about ideas!

i like this idea, like players working together for a mutual gain when they would normally be trying to kill each other! sounds great!

Unfortunately with these suggestions we would be making DayZ into a game like WarZ, getting quests and all that. I don't think this will be good in the long run. Honestly though, someone should make a PvE mod for DayZ because a lot of people are compl- asking for it.

I would not mind these ideas in a mod. Might even play it too.

DayZ will never feature NPCs or quests, the fact that it's completely player driven is one of the great things about the game.

It's a 'sandbox', the idea is that you set your own goals and objectives. You can already take over towns and stuff there just aren't in-game mechanics to encourage it. Get creative.

Sounds a lot like you need to play Fallout 3 mate. It may be what your looking for.

However if your looking for DayZ like experience with the darker overtones, can I recommend you try S.T.A.L.K.E.R. call of Pripyat? Every DayZ fan should play this game. There are even Zombie mods for it.

I love that idea. But you are pretty new here just like me and I think this game is going to cater to the asshole. In its current state it's perfect for griefers and hackers.

Npc's:

this could be so standard and boring.

it is completly against the concept of dayZ where players create a unique experience.

it is unathentic and i am completly against that idea.

You suggest doing an escort mission. That sounds boring and frustrating.

You can already escort players so why would some one add npcs.

I don't know why people hate PVE elements, they can only add to the game not take anything away.

In this game it takes away just about everything in DayZ. Fear of players, watching your back, because zombies are not much of a problem. Only time I got killed by zombies was when I suicided or got my legs broken and started bleeding from just 1 hit from 1 zombie.

Sure, if you have PVE you can count on other players trying to help you, or ignore you, but people always find a way. Zombie trains and barricades will be common.

I always say: those who want a PVE experience, rent your own server and lock it. Play with your friends. Or find one that does that. They exist.

DayZ will never feature NPCs ............

There are Rmod servers that have squads of NPC's.

What you are suggesting isn't PvE, what you want are artificial safe havens to protect you from the big scarey boogie men (aka Bandits); or objectives that have no real risk (AI bases/meaningless AI quest vendors)

What you want has already been created in other games, have you tried Skyrim, Fallout, L4D or even the GTAs?

Just wait till DayZ: Epoch gets out. It's supposed to cater to this crowd quite well, and looks good enough for most player to at least give it a look. Still, this thread brings up an important point. People complain about 2 thinks on this kind of thread: a lack of stuff to do and a hate filled community. Both are true points. Once you have a Ural filled with guns, ammo, meds, and beans, is there anything really left to do? Once a player reaches that point, the only thing really left to do is (1%) try and collect 1 of everything, or (99%) bring your superpowered laser beam of death that kills on sight down to the spawning ground of the beaches and murder everything in sight. While I disagree with a strong NPC influence a slight one might be beneficial (ex: finding a radio will direct you to an overrun NPC survivor camp, or you will be able to talk with some friendly NPCs trying to get you to a fabled "safe zone") Yes, I see the point that some of you make, in that there should be a story line. For you guys, I recommend a single-player campaign, DayZ: Epoch, or a combination of the 2. For you hardcore players who will die before you see a survivor type NPC, I recommend blackmailing your local server Admin so they don't change anything and allow you to fight in peace (now isn't that an odd phrase). And for you guys that haven't stabbed an eye out so you only see one point of view, I suggest keeping your mouth shut so that the two radicals don't team up to stomp you and your treacherous ideas out (Hint: this is part of the reason why politics are so slow). But back to what should actually be done, I'd say nothing yet. Finish the standalone, then add more depth (seriously, there is no gap between start and endgame weapons), and maybe NPCs. While I would say that it is completely against the Spirit of DayZ to have every city filled with annoying non-zombie AI, it might structure the game more if one or two nearly impossible to reach NPCs were added.

It would take away the bleak and lonely feeling.

It wouldn't be about player interactions anymore. Seriously.

These suggestions piss me off every time.

Not a matter of hate. It just does not fit into the core concept of what the developers want to do here.

Why do people keep insisting on moving DayZ toward a mainstream MMO?

You should the Wasteland mod for Arma 2. It has all these ideas that would quite frankly ruin DayZ if implemented. If you're bored of DayZ, play something else, don't suggest things to make it a bit more exciting. You can play other games, not solely DayZ.

I think you have a misconception here. The game isn't meant to be pure PvP, but a survival simulator that teaches us city-raised idiots something about it. The fact that people are shooting each other is a side effect of the fact that the mod is a mod of a first person shooter, and because of that you can't really do anything but shoot people.

Hopefully in the standalone they address this accordingly.
