Endgame: Extraction

Recommended Posts

As a purist, I am still enjoying testing my survival skills in Chernarus. But for the completionists among us, perhaps some kind of endgame is warranted.

Here is a (succinct) suggestion;

  • Players craft a foxhole radio using components sourced around the map.
  • They then travel throughout Chernarus, scanning the airwaves for short-wave Morse/Q code broadcasts.
  • These broadcasts advise specific coordinates (or allude to topographical landmarks) giving time/date stamps which change regularly and must be decrypted.
  • Once every 24hrs an NPC heli will arrive at the pre-notified extraction point and land for 5 minutes.
  • Any players able to reach the exfil point, fight through the inevitable horde and board the heli will be rescued.

Obviously the above will be extremely difficult to achieve, but this could potentially open up a whole new metagame. It would give rise to professional rescue squads shepherding survivors, vehicle drivers shuttling players to liberation, and bandits spreading false hope and disinformation with rumours and ambushes.

Don't like it. I like the idea of endgame but more like some uber-hard locations (metro, military base, jail etc.), that would be almost impossible to pass alone, with some better military stuff inside obtainable only this way.

The chopper leaves the map and you respawn on the beach, satisfied that your character made it out alive.

It would be a lot more rewarding (and less soul destroying) than dying facedown in the mud.

"Extractions" could become another statistic alongside Deaths, Bandits, etc...

In all honesty you can make your own endgame. Get a helicopter, collect all your friends and fly off into the sunset (west) until you run out of fuel or whatever. You have now made it, you may now proceed in joining a different server with a different map and make a new endgame for yourself.

Besides that, there is no endgame and it's intended that way to allow players to innovate one for themselves. My endgame is to play DayZ til i get bored and move on to another game.

I kind of like to think of this game in the Dwarf Fortress sense , where give enough time , you will die , and there is no true end to the game except for death .

I like the thought of adding a sense of purpose to the game but instead of something that brings it to an end how about random quests. Every so often some intel comes about informs players about a quest such as clearing zombies out of an area to receive loot or rescue an NPC and escort them somewhere for a reward. Multiple groups of players could then fight eachother in order to acheive the objective

I'm no fan of most peoples' "endgame" ideas because frankly, all of them suck. However, I'm actually really liking this idea the more I think about it.

I don't think the scenario should play out exactly as OP describes; there should be some fine-tuning. But you're definitely on to a good idea here man.

I personally would like this idea for myself mainly. I'm usually a lone wolf, and without a clan this game becomes really boring for me when I get good gear (I have several different severs where my character has great gear but I refuse to play on them because it isn't fun when you don't need to look for anything) but this would give me something to shoot for. If I spend 20 days tracking down supplies and chasing rescue helis around and I finally successfully escape from Chernarus, I would be very happy.

And if I get bored and decide to go full-bandit (which I do from time to time), shooting down rescue choppers full of survivors would be fun too.

I'm not getting on that freakin' bird. I'm rebuilding humanity right where I am.

I like the idea, but I think it could be done differently. I think having an endgame to work towards would be allot more rewarding than to simply die when you achieved all you had to achieve. Maybe not one where you ride off into the sunset, but maybe a particular puzzle you have to solve and the screen fades out, you see credits and then respawn on the beach? Dunno. Might be neat, maybe DayZ is not the kind of game for that though.

Thanks for the feedback guys;

I guess I was just trying to figure out an ending that could be implemented with minimal effort and which wouldn’t change the overall dynamic of DayZ. Like Minecraft, it could be introduced over time – the kind of thing long-term players might stumble into, suddenly realising they have all the requirements necessary to take the next step, if they so choose.

Use your own Imagination and play as you want. to hell with others opinions. But on another note, Wait till SA comes out, someone will do this in Mod format for those who want extra out of the Concept.

There is no such thing as an end game in a persistent world, an endgame imply that there is an "end" where you win. Which should never happen.
