BeanzBro 0 Posted January 2, 2013 Will the Standalone work with lower end pc's better than it does as a Mod?Because I can run servers with lower survivors in at around 30/40 fps but with servers with 20/30 survivors I get around 7 fps, My PC is like a shed, :DThanks. Bribase 251 Posted January 2, 2013 No promises but Rocket did mention optimisation as being one of the focuses of the SA. I would imagine that a custom built engine for DayZ would run better than the Arma 2 engine. No way of knowing though.
colekern 1364 Posted January 2, 2013 That;s just a bad server. Anyways:Optimization is one of the goals of DayZ. Rocket has stated it a lot, and even stated how it's already begun.
Mos1ey 6301 Posted January 2, 2013 They are aiming for better optimisation in the foundation build but I wouldn't expect any miracles, it's still based on an updated ArmA 2 engine running Chernarus. Just hope for a few more FPS and anything on top of that will be a nice bonus, lol.
plrsniper 87 Posted January 2, 2013 It is based more on the ToH branch of the ArmA engine so take a look at the ToH system requirements and hope they stay the same or better. With that said, how old is your PC? After 2 years, 3 tops it's time for a few upgrades. No need to buy a whole new PC. You don't even have to buy the latest parts, you can even get them second hand. But either way, you won't have to spend much to get up to relative speed with the current hardware.
ididi9 (DayZ) 53 Posted January 2, 2013 DayZ is always going be CPU intensive with hundreds of zombies roaming around.
hatfieldcw 184 Posted January 3, 2013 If I may talk out my butt for a moment... Arma2 transmits every unit's location and heading to every client at all times, it's one of the reasons map hacks are so common. SA will have a server-centric architecture, which means that your client will only get data for the units that are nearby, and that should help a lot with population-based lag, for zombie and player populations alike. Also, a lot of the game mechanics for command interface and squad structure and all the other stuff that DayZ uses, but only in the most superficial way, will likely be streamlined. And of course the rebuilt engine will take advantage of newer driver support and DirectX and whatever else, so that'll help some, too.I'd expect the standalone to be much smoother in performance than the current mod build, for sure. Not a lawyer, just an optimist.
finkone 320 Posted January 3, 2013 I know its going to be using the ToH (take on helicopters) engine, that was already said. Now with that stated, I've played a lot of ToH, alot. In Cherno on DayZ with my settings cranked nicely - I get around 35/40 frames...In the main city of ToH (which is three times the size, has buildings that are 60 stories high) and a far amount of detail in them I still get frames around 45/50. I've got my settings on ToH HIGHER then DayZ MOD, with draw distances of 10K, and render distances of 6K. This is also with the games fully loaded Arma style features... such as cars, people, interactions, and the normal Arma features you come to expect and that clutter the game...Now with that said, once DayZ SA is gutted - which they have done already... and has gotten a make over - geared toward DayZ, I picture it running A LOT better...I wouldn't worry about lower performance and would almost count on ten-fold better performance man.PS... Im drunk and didn't proof read. Do not judge me.
Zachstar 59 Posted January 3, 2013 One thing to keep in mind. Unless I was reading it wrong. There will be less options when it comes to video so tricks that were being used to improve FPS in the mod may not work in SA.The good news is you can get a LOT of oomph from modern midrage Intel CPUs. And Nvidia graphics cards have pretty good value these days as well. In my opinion it wont break the bank to build or buy a good PC to run SA on if you know how to pick the right parts. scoffield77@gmail.com 192 Posted January 3, 2013 If you can run Arma2, you can run Arma3. and DayZ is suppose to be between two.
