Please explain me some things about servers. I'm confused.

Recommended Posts

Hey!

So Ive been playing DayZ for over a week now, enjoying it when it isnt failing, lost 3 AS50s, countless ammo and stuff because of either a bug, or a hacker that stole our whole base, besides that, everything's good.

BUT

I was thinking about moving a server. But when ever i try to go on a diff server, I start as a fresh spawn with nothing on me. So I was wondering why... Im not playing on a private hive, so...

Playing on 185.2.136.156:3034

Please help me understand the mechanics of the servers, and moving stuff over servers. Thank you! :)

Oh and before I forget,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well, if its a public hive there all connected together and in one hive,Some well known servers may even have two diffrent servers sharing the same hive, that is a community hive, and a private hive, is well, a private hive xD So maybe make sure its not a private hive, and if its not, make sure you didnt mistake it for a community hive instead of a public. (Im not sure if those are the correct names but thats how i understand it)

I'll repost a post I made before, can't be bothered retyping it all:

I'll have to explain the 2 types of server.

There are Public Hive servers and there are Private Hive servers.

Public Hive servers are the 'official' group of servers that all have to follow a certain set of rules, these servers are all linked together.

For example, if you log out with an AK47 on one Public Hive server and log into another Public Hive server you will be in the same location with your AK47.

Private Hive servers are an unofficial group of servers ran by private administrators. These are normally individual servers and are not linked with the main hive.

For example, if you log out with an AK47 on one Public Hive server and log into a Private Hive server, you would start again fresh, nothing is linked.

The 'hive' is basically the database which stores all player information, locations, equipment etc.

All 'official' servers connect to the one single official hive (database), so you can move between any of these servers and your character/location/equipment will persist.

Private servers connect to their own hive (database), everything you do on those servers will remain on that server and not affect any of your other characters on other servers.

Note: There are some private servers that share a single hive. I think all Vilayer private servers connect to one 'Vilayer Hive' for example so you could move between any Vilayer servers and your character would persist.

The server you posted is a private server/hive (majority are nowadays), if you are using DayZCommander they are marked with a cloud icon and you can filter them by ticking 'hide unofficial'

Thank you <3

How do I know if it's a private hive? It DOES have admins, and an owner.
