Hacker keeps coming back after being banned.

Hey everyone,

I'm a relatively new server owner and I am truly amazed at the amount of cheating that goes on in this game. I have banned a player 3 times now but he keeps coming back. Frustrated, I decided just to talk to the guy. He told me he has a massive amount of CD keys and can come back to servers indefinitely. Any idea how I can get rid of him for good? Thanks!

Just collect as much data as you can, maybe the pieces of the puzzle will fit together one day.

Just keep banning his arse. It may not cost much for a key but Keep the faith and it will add up, make him pay.

Ok the problem was that I couldn't watch the server 24/7. But I gave some folks admin rights and they ban on sight now. Should help with the problem in the meantime.

A hacker playing on one of my favorite servers gets many global bans every day, he comes back every time. I think that some hackers are sponsored to hack dayZ to get people off the game. Bohemia interactiv is a pain in the ass for other game dev and rockets DayZ made there problems even bigger. This ofcourse is only a theory...

It's more the fact that ArmA stores players CD Key in the registry resulting in massive CD key theft and stolen keys that cost about a dollar.

IP ban him; don't wait for him to go through all his keys. Yes.. it is ridiculous the amount of cheating and how sad the state of our tools and detection are.

I think I might just shut the server down and be down with this garbage game. It sucks because I have at least 50 regulars who are all cool, but I'm not paying for this anymore.

Yeah ill probably just shut it down at the end of the month. I have a full-time job so I just don't have to time to babysit this server anymore. I tried many options but they seem to be able to get around them all. I will try again once(if) the standalone comes out though.

Get a copy of his Player ID from the logs it will be in the RPT log just use notepad ++ and search his name

till you find a set of numbers that would be his player ID,

Sometime you may get a few letter with the numbers.

Just look for example.

LOGIN ATTEMPT: "56583902" Name "

If you are then able to see the files on your server

via FTP then in the root dir of arma folder of the server you might see a ban.txt

If you have this in the root dir of arma.

Add his player ID to that, he will not be able to join your server again.

If you don't have it then simply create the file ban.txt

The above is the best piece of info i have seen for a long time, thank you Faz. (My Beans are given sir!)

I will be using this for a very similar scripter that has even gone as far as using a VPN to change his IP to continue to ruin our server.

Update.

I've noticed having looked in to the RPT that the

LOGIN ATTEMPT: "Number" Name " Is not the player id.

So to find the player ID look for example blow in your RPT

Example

"DISCONNECT: name (100613574) Object: B 1-3-A:1 (name) REMOTE, _characterID: 5798346" <- example.

So player ID is characterID: 5798346" <- example.

Cd keys are quite cheap i think so admins a website so players can keep reporting the person.

Thats why i love this new option of ban security.

IP - He used VPN

GUID - He brought new, after new after new.

Player ID - Unique and perfect.

(if i can stop it turning into what looks like an IP address in the bans.txt file.)

Drunkie.

You need to place it in your ban.txt in your root not a bans.txt :)

bans.txt is for GUID's and IP's.

ban.txt is for player ID's
