Why the AS50?

I'm genuinely curious. I've had my grubby mits on both the AS50 and the M107.

S'far as I can see, the M107 has more rounds per mag, and a better scope. They both kill to like, -25000 blood just by virtue of a bullet being in the general vicinity of another player.

But the as50 has a lower drop chance, and is more valued by bandits and snipers.

What am I missing here?

It can be zeroed up to 1600 meters, while the Barrett M107 can be zeroed up to 1200 (as far as I remember). And it has less recoil than the Barrett. I personally got used to the Barrett M107, and I like it more than the AS50 (in the DayZ plan).

I thought the view distance was like... 1200 metres on a clear day with eagle vision on?

I have never, ever thought to myself 'that guy is too far away to hit'.

As50 rounds do more damage to vehicles so you can stop people legging it in vehicles easier

Plus you can use m107 rounds in the as50 but not vice versa so there's more flexibility ammo wise.

1. It has alot less recoil when fired.

2. It is alot quieter.

3. You can use M107 mags in a AS50.

4. It destroys vehicles Alot faster.

Ahhh, the fact that it uses M107 rounds instantly increases its value beyond that of the M107.

I still prefer the M107 though. Just a better scope, really. I don't remember, does the AS50 double-zoom?

Either way, I don't really have cause to shoot at vehicles. Not with a sniper rifle. I'd aim for the driver and try to get the vehicle unharmed.

The AS50 is far, far quieter. It has less recoil, and does more damage when it comes to vehicles.

Lol.. are you serious? :D i tought it was the usual moaning about how "noob" it is the AS50 so ppl would go for a 107 or even a DMR/M24 .... but i see you really tought the M107 was better.

- AS50 can use both the M107 mags and its own (NATO) mag to destroy the vehicles as well;

- AS50 is a semi-auto sniper rifle, while the M107 is a bolt action rifle, you can use the AS50 even in closed combat, while with the M107 you may get in trouble due to the slower recharge if you miss the first shot;

- AS50 has basically no recoil.. you can shot at the target like a noob until you hit it even without taking care of the aim and zeroing (assuming you don't care about the wasting ammo);

- AS50 can be zeroed to 1600m, whenever the usage distance in dayz can't (usually) go over 1200m;

- AS50 has a powerful zoom than the M107 (use the "+/-" numpad keys to change the modes);

- AS50 is much quiter than the M107 (for players, not zeds).

There's so many reason to prefer the AS50 that this question shouldn't even exists. The AS50 is damn OP, that's why ppl have asked many times to be removed from the mod.

The main thing I really didn't like about the AS50 was the fact that it couldn't do the double-zoom thing and the default zoom was already pretty weak. But being able to get another level of magnification? Ugh. My entire life has been a lie!

It's the same (if not more.. i didn't checked tbh) for the zeds, it's just for the other players (nowaday they are a way more thangerous than zeds hordes.. :) ).

You were "told this". Well, atleast you (and the other 90% of DayZ players) would have known this if you weren't too lazy to learn to play the game. There's a Boot Camp for a reason. Not to mention the tons of other ArmA mods you guys don't even know about.
