Welch (DayZ) 756 Posted December 29, 2012 Sorry ahead of time if this thread's in the wrong section, couldn't really put it in Suggestions since it's not part of the mod, but whatever. Feel free to move it.People come onto these forums all the time telling us about how they've been banned on some Private Hive and the only thing most people say is, "Oh it's a private server, we can't do anything about it." But there's always something you can do. So why couldn't you go onto that server and see if the admin's still on, and maybe talk to him or her?Shit happens and maybe the admin made a mistake or rash decision, and they'll listen to your logic and unban the person complaining. This doesn't really pertain to the douchecanoes that ban players for not doing anything. It's still a nice gesture to the OP, showing that we've tried all we can to get him/her unbanned for a simple mistake.
colekern 1364 Posted December 29, 2012 The truth is, the volunteer mods just don't have the time between work, moderating the forums, and addressing players concerns to do that. Regular players could.
Welch (DayZ) 756 Posted December 29, 2012 The truth is, the volunteer mods just don't have the time between work, moderating the forums, and addressing players concerns to do that. Regular players could.I'd be willing to, and I could if I had more time. The only problem of mine is I'm not exactly a great people-person, so it'd probably end with me arguing with them or something...
OrLoK 16187 Posted December 29, 2012 Hello thereAs has been said, we (mods) just don't have the capabiltiy. Also, how does one know that the story one is acting on is true or lacking facts? You could end up in a 3 way argument which would solve nothing.Posting here at least gets one's story out there and can reveal an over eager SA or a unwelcomed player. We usually point folk to try to contact the admin or their particular forums as well. But we as "the forum" can do little in respect to Private Hives except give obvious advice.RdgsLoK
SmashT 10907 Posted December 29, 2012 I have better things to do then constantly join random servers on behalf of people who have been banned asking why, if you are up for it though, go for it.
xxblink 66 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) Why not see if someone can set up some sort of a system where players can find admins? For example, a website where server admins can register that they are the admins of such and such server. Then a player can simply go there, find the server, and message the admins? Or even just an area in the forums where server amdins can throw up a thread saying which servers they admin? Cause forum search works with the thread name.... rossums 2190 Posted December 29, 2012 What a waste of time.Once a poster can formulate a legible thread that isn't a waste of time they will get help but instead it's always some biased shitstorm of a story about how they would never do anything bad and it's all a mistake. Welch (DayZ) 756 Posted December 29, 2012 Well none of these replies were anything like I'd expect them to be! Oh well. And I know that the guy could act totally innocent and make the story totally one-sided, but you get the occasional threads about some bad admin decision which could be looked into and it would be somewhat legitimate. Fraggle (DayZ) 15720 Posted December 29, 2012 (edited) I can't think of any worse way of spending my time than following up every single ban appeal personally. Please bear in mind that we are volunteers who's job it is to moderate the forum. Any help/advice we offer on top of that is offered because we want this to be a good community and we enjoy being a part of it, we are in no way obliged to offer advice although we do try and help people when we can. Welch (DayZ) 756 Posted December 29, 2012 I don't know why all you forum moderators are coming here and saying the same thing over and over. It's like none of you act like a normal member couldn't be helpful. And it doesn't have to be every single appeal, either. But I guess nobody really is picking up what I'm throwing down, so I will just drop it altogether... OrLoK 16187 Posted December 29, 2012 Hello thereWe're all here 'cos it's an interesting topic :)Not only are we mods, but we are also dayz players etc. Don't take it as personal persecution.A normal mamber can/could help. We are just giving our opinion on what you propose. We have an area in our forum for just these events but its up to the "normal" members and system admins to use it and use it properly.Feel free to set something up if you have the time and resources but just be aware it wont be an easy task. :)RgdsLoK
Paleocon 13 Posted December 29, 2012 Regular players could. Then there's the likely flip side of the thing.Person with good and helpful intentions logs on to the server to appeal on behalf of the banned person in question and the server admin says something to the effect of "Oh, so you're friends with that douchebag?" <click> ban. "Don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya."Also, how does one know that the story one is acting on is true or lacking facts? You could end up in a 3 way argument which would solve nothing.LoKQuoted for truth and the likely end result of trying.Getting into the middle man spot of a he said she said argument with no proof of who is actually right or wrong almost never ends well for you and both people end up hating your guts as a reward for your effort. How far do you go for a stranger that may or may not have brought someones justifiable wrath down on themself?I would do it for someone i was familliar with (specifically their ethics and integrity) or anyone i actually know but potentially getting myself banned by association with a person/situation i know absolutely nothing about....aint happening.
terrorizer33 131 Posted December 31, 2012 Welch' intentions are spot on, but imho some1 who got banned from a specific server should put some own effort in trying to get in touch with the server owners/admins. Posting on these forums is 1 way, but trying to find the website/forum of the corresponding server he/she got banned from is just that little bit more effort that does show some1 would really want to get back onto that server.I (and probably alot more server admins) monitor the ban appeals on daily bases (mainly cause most of the appeals and the replies make me lmfao) so if any ban is being appealed we're very likely to see it ourselves and deal with it.You got my beans for being a very friendly fellow community member though Welch :)
