Regor (DayZ) 4 Posted December 28, 2012 This idea has been gnawing at me for some time now. A line that has bells attached to it and allowing the player to place it in increments of 1m all the way up to 4m. When the line is tripped over a small chime could play that can be heard 15m directly around it. This could provide a little security for a small camp, inside buildings, and in hot sniping locations. By having a small range for it to be heard gives both players an advantage, both will have enough time to react. To counter this, wire cutters could be used to snip the line if a player has a keen enough eye to see it. The wire cutters could also have another purpose, the ability to cut small holes out of fences that the player can crawl through.....I searched for this idea and found nothing. There were a few similar ones that were trip lines that could set off explosive traps, but nothing that warns a player of another's presence.
private_joker 24 Posted December 28, 2012 D&D player, are we? This is a nice idea, but I'm not sure how it'll be helpful. I've never had much reason to stay in one place for any amount of time. Can you give us some examples?-Joker
Regor (DayZ) 4 Posted December 28, 2012 Ok you are well hidden on the hill in Stary, you're wearing a ghillie suit, and are camping out with ol' painless. Suddenly, you are hit from behind and...... You Are Dead..... Well if you had a few lines set up nearby you could hear if someone is creeping up on you and give you a chance to live another day. I died one time while in an apartment in Chereno. I was on the top floor picking off a few zeds and players then bam! I was hit from behind. Someone sneaked up the stairs and got me. If I was able to set a line or two up, I would of been able to prepare for an impending attack. This would probably benefit the lone wolfs or a small group of players but I think it would be a innovative addition to survival. It gives a sense of security if you are geared up and want to hold out in a building in Cherno or Elecktro and snipe some players, or perch yourself on a hill and pick players off with a little less stress knowing that if someone is trying to be sneaky, you have a chance of hearing them and surviving. Steak and Potatoes 13480 Posted December 29, 2012 Could I string them around myself and run through Cherno playing all the top bell tunes?
commiekiller18 6 Posted December 29, 2012 No bells but empty tin cans with rocks might work. Hell is for Hero's style
Regor (DayZ) 4 Posted December 29, 2012 No bells but empty tin cans with rocks might work. Hell is for Hero's styleNow that is creative.... maybe make it where you collect like 3 cans, a length of wire, and two posts to craft one.........
Testwd3r235 2810 Posted December 29, 2012 That sounds like a great idea, always annoying getting killed while sniping, especially by an axe murderer.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted December 29, 2012 I'd rather have a tripwire attached to a nuke case...

kaiga12 22 Posted December 31, 2012 I'll just look at your little trap, laugh and then silently vault over it. Then I'll vault all the way over to you, shoot you, then do a little vault dance.
scoffield77@gmail.com 192 Posted December 31, 2012 Back in the Airsoft days, we did a fallout 3 style apoc weekend game. Daring it we use empty can's with rocks in it, tied to a string.Used it so we could sleep at night with out getting ambushed. It was awesome ;)+1 though i wish it was empty cans and rocks. The idea is neat

plrsniper 87 Posted January 1, 2013 Actually i want to expand on the idea. If you find tripwire (a separate item) you can attach almost anything to it such as tin cans, road flares, grenades, shotguns... etc.Sure it would be pretty powerful in some cases but the trip wire would be consumed after setting the trap up so you better think about when you actually would need it.On a side note, we already have bear traps. But of course they will be spotted easily.
dystopeon 46 Posted January 1, 2013 solid idea, with passive outcomes. very good :)
DragoKnight 5 Posted January 1, 2013 What about a trip wire to set off flares, chem light, smoke grenade, grenade, sound trap and maybe a gun maaaybe. Also if this is implemented I would like to be able to disarm the trip wire and have a chance to set it off or disarming it.
Michaelvoodoo25 3120 Posted January 1, 2013 (edited) That sounds like a great idea, always annoying getting killed while sniping, especially by an axe murderer. For sniping, I have never heard nor seen a sniper use tin's or bell's for defensive reasons. One of the greatest rules for Snipers is shoot and then scoot, never stay in a position for too long. having the defensive bells behind you would be a foolish method as you'd have to set it up in the first place before you settle down for death dealing. you'd risk being spotted by everyone (Because the first place you'd check would be sniper positions)I can see the benefit of the idea but in a more less specific way. Lots of farms use methods like this for reasons like scaring birds and such, perhaps a few farms / backyards could offer this as a environmental sound putting the player on their toes while moving through areas. More of a distraction, giving the player some spooky sounds to contend with.Imagine your moving through a town and you're already scared because of the Zed presence, the closer you move into the town you hear rattling tins and such, could offer aid with sound or could aggravate the Zeds?! Now imagine this on a pitch black night, you'd be on edge and this is only one small town. (Sidenote: - Would be similar to door bells and chimes when opening doors, you'd not know which doors are affected)Trips with explosives would be great mixed in with the Tin's / Bell's, you wouldn't know what you were getting into if you set one of those buggers off. Randomly set up near well known locations to attract Zeds or Bandit traps. Edited January 1, 2013 by Michaelvoodoo25
Toybasher 27 Posted January 1, 2013 Reminds me of Metal Gear Solid 3, there was a few points in the game where there were little rope traps that if triggered by running into or shooting the rope, there would be mines that would explode, poisonous arrows, spiked logs on ropes, huge pits with spikes and water covered up very losely, snares where you had to cut the rope when your hanging with your knife, etc.One of these traps were a bunch of cans that would clank if the rope was snapped, this triggered an automatic "CAUTION" mode where the soldiers would call in backup and a deadly assault team who would then search the area where you tripped the rope. (Unless you shot the cans off beforehand)It would be awesome to have this featured in the mod to cover your sniping position, etc. (Actually to be completely honest, I think there was only one area in the entire game that had the clacking cans , and it had 2 or so of these traps)
