as alot of others have said before me, i dont mind not spawning with a gun and food. it does add more realism and urgency in going to find food and gear. a melee attack would be nice but i have no idea how hard that would be to implement.

the most annoying part of this patch is the agro range. before you could move around fairly safely in crouch moving at slow speed and just diving into prone when they got really close.

now crouch at slow speed and crouch at faster speed both give 3 bars. so you are forced to prone pretty much everywhere and the flow of the game is ruined. if you want to walk on the road you have to prone even if zombies are quite a distance away.

i understand making it more real but its more annoying now and making the game less fun. the game/mod is getting alot of interest right now and is becoming more popular and this whole zombie agro range issue i can see putting alot of people off playing anymore.

Like most people here , I think this patch , putting the bugs aside , is a step in the right direction (Well , one of your many steps that you have made in the right direction)

In my opinion , there are 3 things that need to be tweaked.

1. Make zombies a touch less sensetive to players. What I mean is not back to how it was in 1.7.0 , but a good comprimise. At the moment , I have had zombies starting to chase me from a good 50 meters away while crouch running. I do understand that you want to make the game harder , but the current setup is a little unrealistic (I guess I can't really say that in a zombie survival game)

2. To compensate for the loss of difficulty in 1. , tone down how easily zombies can stop chasing you in buildings. It would be fine for you to lose them in a building site , or a large building , or maybe by running through a lot of alleys similtaniously , but I've managed to ditch zombies by running through the 1 room shacks.

3. Put down the spawn rates of military weapons. I love the reduction of the starting equipment , but it is still easy to find several Kilashnikov weapons in a single control tower or hanger. When I first played this patch , I was in awe at how having no starting equipment made me feel when I found a single can of beans. But then I found a lee enfield in a barn. Then an AKM. Then an M16. All within 40 minutes.

Ignoring problems by screaming about how everyone who disagrees with you is a crybaby doesn't make the problems go away.

DayZ should not be played to win. Instead, focus on immersing yourself within the game. You are lonely, scared, and venerable. Use any means to survive, hide, or flee if necessary.

Some opinions I have.

I am not sure if this has been addressed or not, but since zombies aggro much easier, it would be nice to know that killing all of them in an area will keep the area clear for some amount of time. Maybe 20 mins. If I am going to aggro zombies (and players), then I want to be able to know that I can kill all the fuckers and be able to walk around free and clear for a bit. As it is now, they respawn too quick, imo.

I love how the map and compass has changed. Kinda makes the GPS obsolete, but I am ok with that.

Was the issue regarding DCing during a fire fight get resolved? I heard that at some point, everyones character stays in a location for 10 seconds or so before he disappears after logging out. I love this idea. No more failsafe and it makes server hopping more tedious. Ghosting becomes more risky too. Players can't log off to avoid death from either other players or from zombie aggro.

zombies shouldn be able to swim. zombies shouldnt be able to run fast(?). zombies shouldnt be able to open doors. zombies shouldnt be able to climb.

zombies should be able to destroy a door after a while and ppl should be able compound the door with some material that zombies need more time to destroy or if you compound it with some metal they wont be able to destroy it. zombies should (if doors cant be destroyed) wait a long time in the near of that door/house.

For what little it's worth, I love the patch. The only thing I want changed is that zeds shouldn't be able to see me proning from 20m away. That's a bit harsh.

This patch has basically dealt with two things at once. PvP won't be as bad, and people now have more reason to work together.

On another note, the night time is also a bit over the top. The more Hardcore players rage against people like me, but it needs to be changed. Right now, it's driving people away. My server goes almost completely empty once night falls, as everyone jumps over to day servers.

I used to visit my grandparents' farm often as a child, and I've never seen a single night as dark as they are in this game. Even on the cloudy nights in the country you could still at least see a little bit.

Yes, yes, I know. Flares and chemlights and flashlights. Fuck that. They attract zombies and other players. I'm all for having night time be difficult, but right now it's basically a death sentence unless you're very lucky or incredibly skilled.

Also, zombie respawn timers are too fast.

I find there's defiantly more team work going on, and less shoot first ask later.

Alot of people think the zombies spot you too easy, and from too far. This is defiantly true and should be changed, but then losing zombies is too easy. I find now to lose zombies i just sprint to a building and the 10+ that were following me becomes 2 or 3. So there needs to be some balancing on this front.

Starting without a weapon is great, but perhaps should not of been implemented yet. Whilst the mod is trying to be 'realistic', and starting out with nothing or very little is the right idea, at the moment its not productive. It leaves you defenceless, and means by the time most players find a gun, there blood is low. And if the front page stats are anything to go by, the majority of players will be dead before they find one.

I'm not against starting without a gun, i just feel that there should be a melee system implemented first, so people can pick up some scrap wood that washed up on the beach and have some kind of defence.

Oh, I forgot to add this. I do like the new aggro, but it has made crouch walk/run almost useless now. 3 bars of vision for both. It's tough to justify crouch running/walking in any situation now, because if you do, it's just a slower version of standing up. Now i just prone my way into towns and prone my way out. Every time I use crouch, I aggro. I am not saying that it should not make me more visible to crouch, but it should have it's uses in town some of the time. hmmm... i am really torn on this, because I don't know what the appropriate level should be. Keep tweaking I suppose and we will let you know how we feel about it, lol. :)

After much deliberation, numerous bouts of troubleshooting and genuinely trying to appreciate the update for what it has accomplished, I have come to one conclusion: I don’t really like it.

Spawning unarmed was a decent idea, gives a new player life a little bit of meaning. Since the beginning I’ve maintained the opinion that going from having very little on the coast to being fully armed can happen way too quickly, so this leaves a lot of people with one option: start little before you start big.

Hiding from zombies isn’t bug proof, yet. It’s a really strange system – I purposely had myself ambushed behind a supermarket and found the zombies clustering together and… not chasing me. From ten feet away. At one point a few more went after me, so I darted for the hills in a straight line, but I lost them within seconds, all in plain view. I guess maybe their vision is being obscured? No clue how this modification is put together but it doesn’t work right.

And on the topic of zombie sixth sense…

Yeah, I always considered towns littered with hordes of the undead gave you two options: sneak through it carefully or go in guns blazing. It seems at this stage we no longer have the former option and it’s 100% impossible to go anywhere without having something chase you. It’s not as fun for me anymore.

The zombies are way too sensitive now.

They can see you miles away even if you are crounch behind a tree or something. Even when u pass near walls. Oh and zombies still can attack/pass/see through walls.

Hope he fix it.

Great features from this version:

1. Ideas behind the majority of the changes/additions. The current implementations can use tweaks, but that's the point of an alpha.

2. No starting gun is fantastic. With more time invested in even getting low-end gear gives more attachment to each spawn, likely limiting the freshly spawned kamikazes.

3. Buffing of Zeds coupled with no starting weapon also lends itself to more coop action, especially from what was before normally PvP zones -- spawn locations.

4. Buffs to Zeds' sight and ability will also give pause to camping town snipers who are there only to grief, essentially (I have no problems with looting bandits).

5. Fixes for through-the-walls Zeds in place once raycasting is fixed (can't expect everything in one roll out).

6. Line of Sight was a much needed function to keep tensions high but not outstrip the ability of skilled or well thought out and planned players/teams.

Things that aren't so hot:

1. Glitches like Zed spawn, FPS, etc. All are, as I'm aware, already pointed out and likely to be hotfixed. (this is Alpha, obviously)

2. The "heartbeat of humanity" feature. Without a way to properly convey "reading a situation" or that gut instinct, this is one of the better ways to implement it, but it still feels.. off.

I really believe this patch, while flawed in many ways, is the best evolutionary step for Dayz as it's swinging the favor back towards the Zeds in regards to level of danger for the average player. It's an unforced way to encourage more cooping between players without resorting to hand-holding, in fact it's the exact opposite as the game is even more unforgiving.

It has been stated numerous times that prior to this patch that fellow players were really the only danger to a character, outside of glitches. The age old story of an even more powerful enemy bringing together previous adversaries rings true with a buff to the Zeds. This is a very good start to get to that point.

Seems easier to me, just sprint away from zombies around corners and they stop chasing you. Players are shooting me even more now (Might just be my experiences so far). I been shot twice while unarmed and newly spawned today. However, I imagine I have just been unlucky, and that my experiences will improve over time.

With this new patch my policy of being friendly and ignoring other players if they were no threat to my position is going out the window. Z's are agroed so easily now that getting loot from towns and such is a far riskier business now. I see a player now your gear is mine.

anyway won't be playing untill tent placement is fixed. no point filling a full backpack.

with the new update here I'm seeing mixed reviews about the no weapons on spawn and I may have a solution. If you want to make the game realistic by removing the gun and the equipment from the start, at least make it so we can punch zombies or use some kind of melee weapon(s). I do like the challenging zombies, however when you are trying to get a weapon from a town that has an abundance of zombies without any self defense is next to impossible. Not only is it a pain in the a$$ but think of the hardships players will come into when they spend a lot of time trying to sneak past zombies with perfect vision and finding a weapon just to get sniped / killed by a hacker and having to start over again with nothing. If you were able to start off with a club or making the hatchet a melee weapon also (because they are everywhere) would be nice.

PS. WTF is with the super zombie speed, trying to outrun them is impossible yet alone trying to hide from them in buildings. Because if you run into a building with zombies and manage to prone and hide, they just stand there by the door forever making hiding useless unless they go back to patrolling.

Alright' date=' I would just like to throw this out there, the new changes in 1.7.1 are glorious. The game is what it should have been. It forces people to cooperate and play together and the real threat now is the zombies (that actually kill things now). I actually made a friend in-game today and traveled with them for a very long time. I was pleasantly surprised when he didn't shoot me on the coast and actually gave me ammo for the makarov I found later while he was protecting my ass from the zombies.

However, I notice people complaining that it's too hard, that they can't stealth and the game sucks because they can't adapt to the new zombie behaviours. I would like to say, Rocket please do not listen to cries of the few. I think most of us really enjoy the raised difficulty and love the mod even more! (I could be wrong, but from what I see that seems to be the consensus.)

Though, I would like to point out an issue that has been amplified with this update, (you said not to mention this because its a known issue already but I'm going to say it anyways :P) the wall attacking. It's even more brutal now because of the zombies increased attack range. Now even in larger buildings like the apartments in Berezino and some of the larger homes the zombies are hitting you from everywhere. Once this gets panned out the update will be flawless.

All of you haters crying that it's too hard; I hate to say it, but learn to play.

[/quote']

Totally agree. Everyone seems to think that people would all have guns if there was an Zombie apocolypse. No.. most would not when outbreak occurs. Love the changes.. can't believe ppl are complaining because zombies can see you from far.. I do agree that being able to hide behind trees and bushes would be nice but it's probably limited to Arma2 engine. Otherwise, getting away is easy.. just break line of sight. Man.. everyone acts so entitled these days.

Spend some time trying to get my game run properly again and did not succeed, what is the final solution to play, ive seen lots of movies on youtube from people who are actually able to play again.

A friend told me that a lot of servers where running 1.7.0 but showed as if they where running 1.7.1 ....

I am not a big gamer, i don't actually like games, im more of a social person but this game, DayZ. I was addicted to it, i loved it and played it for hours every day, i literally installed an Operation system i absolutely HATE (winblows compuderp) to play this game (i have an iMac) but the recent update ruined it all for me. I have bad FPS and i absolutely hate the new features such as spawning with no gun and no food, you say its more realistic but who leaves their house without a gun or food during a zombie apocalypse? just saying. It's a Game, Not a simulator. i think you should either undo the new features such as Zombies seeing you from a very far distance, and when you hide in houses without a gun the zombies stay at the entrance so you can't get out. You have to relog but apparently they are fixing that soon. Or make like an option to play hardcore or regular dayz. This is not the same game anymore and i don't like the new game.

Actually, pre-patch zombies were the most dangerous this in the game because they pretty much alert everyone to your presence. We've killed so many people in cities and the NW Airfield because they were getting engaged by the Zeds. We see them fighting, struggling and when they're done or in a vulnerable position, we take them out.

Players should be the most dangerous this in this game, and the "no starting weapon" gives people a chance to group up. However, the Zombies are there as a wild card, if you aren't able to deal with them and reveal your location, either they'll get you or someone else will. This won't stop in the new patch, anyone who isn't on our Teamspeak is getting shot.

Argh. so torn.

I like so many things with the patch.

mostly dealing with the undead.

But i hate spawning empty handed...

perhaps there should be a forum-wide poll on this?

i mean, what if we just started with a Mak and 2 clips?

at least i could defend myself and not feel like i just dropped the soap.
