Very Ape 748 Posted December 24, 2012 This suggestion is simple. Let's make it more of a brainstorming session. How about reducing backpack sizes just a little, and restricting assault rifles being placed inside of backpacks. In return, you'd be able to sling a rifle across your back. It seems better than having people go around with AS-50s in their backpacks. It'd also look much cooler, and probably make the whole inventory system that much less clunky. Animations to switch between the gun in hand and the gun on your back should be slow and tedious, of course. :)
rossums 2190 Posted December 24, 2012 They are completely redesigning the inventory system for standalone, for obvious reasons though nothing specific has been announced.
Skat3rat 1633 Posted December 24, 2012 I don't think the backpack sizes should get reduced but I do like the weapon idea. I've heard some talk though about the possibilities of stripping a weapon down and placing it in your pack. That idea and yours I like. Idk if anyone has seen a real AS50 but they're about 3-4 ft long and I doubt would be fitting into a backpack so easily. Slinging or stripping it down would be a lot more realistic than it being in your backpack.
enforcer1975 1111 Posted December 24, 2012 (edited) I love the stripping idea...having to waste 1 min to take out a sniper rifle, assemble and load it only to see that your target already slipped away or is standing next to you to take a shot at point blank... Sutinen 635 Posted December 25, 2012 (edited) I like the sling idea. I also would like something that if an assault rifle has a folding stock, it requires less space in containers. Same goes with compact weapons like SMG's. Bows and crossbows should be considered long weapons, but they should be very light instead. And then, handguns, they shouldn't take many slots. Smallest handguns like Makarov and G17 would be very light to carry. I mean, you could even carry 2 holsters around with ease. If the weight system changes the game drastically, a handgun might become a very useful weapon. Edited December 25, 2012 by Sutinen

The same should also go true with the AKS-74U being 5 slots instead of 10, the reason being is that with the AKS-74U's stock folded, the weapon is even shorter than a standard M4A1 Carbine with its stock retracted. For official valuesThe MP5A5 with its stock collapsed is 21.7 inches longthe AKS-74U with its stock folded is 19.3 inches longwhile the M4A1 with its stock retracted is 29.75 inches longThis effectively makes the AKS-74U SMALLER than an MP5, certainly warranting a smaller inventory space than 10 slots. xconnor9 0 Posted December 26, 2012 The backpacks should not be reduced but i can see the weapon thing going well like a second holster sort of. But you would be able to swap between 2 or 3 weapons a time and this may cause trouble for alot of players

irl-calibre 744 Posted December 26, 2012 on the subjct of backpacks, could we not have a simple permission system, a simple y/n to alow other players access to them - if they are on the back of a living person? same for cars with a driver sitting in their seat? k thx bye.. I always think they try to pickpocket me.
Bribase 251 Posted December 27, 2012 (edited) Everytime a thread like this comes up I think that a Deus Ex style inventory works best here:It's just so intuitive. It leaves you to make tough choices about throwing things out to accomodate the stuff that you need. Plus you can drag and drop what you want to equip.
