Handcuffs, zipties and blindfolds.

Recommended Posts

Handcuffs, zip ties and blindfolds are three additions I would like to see added to the game. The ability to neutralize an opponent without lethal force is something that should be included especially with the fine-tuning of the humanity system for the standalone game. Obviously there has to be some sort of time limit/durability of restraint.

What are your thoughts?

So you've got a fetish for bondage, too? Nice!

But I think people would abuse kidnapping by trolling 'em.

I would love to see something like this implemented, though I don't know if the mechanics would work, if so you should be able to use any strong material to restrain someone. I think these would actually be tools you would use in an Apocalyspe... say someone enters your camp and you don't want to kill them, but restrain and interrogate them, it would be very usefull. Would also make kidnapping a whole lot more fun. :D

Aslong as you can't just run up to someone, ziptie/blindfold or handcuff them and they're stuck like that forever, I would love this if we have the ability to break the locks or something along those lines.

How do you implement it to prevent someone from knocking you unconscious, and even bandaging/bloodbagging you only to tie you up and drag you into a bush and just up and walk away?

You are now tied up for how long? an hour? it just doesn't make sense imho

ok i realise there has to be something to stop people just dumping someone on the side of the road tied up. like maybe a bar of durability of the item say which has a time limit like 5 mins.

One of the suggestions (And hopefully implementations) for the standalone is amputation of limbs.

Handcuffs would be entirely useless.

Want to deal with a hostile non lethally? Drag their unconcious body to a shack filled with medical supplies, amputate both their arms, drag them back into the field, and bring them too.

That'll teach them.

Simple items like this could alter peoples perceptions of games, and I'm sure with censorship in many different countries being so varied, some people may abuse the game.

Like being tied up and dangles from a lamp post with a criowd of Zeds awaiting dinner. Or being kidnapped by less scrupulous players and continuously tortured over and over again.

Realistically it won't happen.

It should take you atleast 20 seconds to put on all the stuff withought moving, once person is tied up you should be able to open their gear and take stuff. And so no one abuses it, you should have to press spacebar every 5 seconds for a 1.22% chance of breaking free.

This still is a silly idea, There are videos for people with such fetishes.

ARE THERE????? I'm sure you would know..... as you are the first person to take this topic down that path.

I personally think there should be some form of rope in the game to restrain knocked out players from being able to bring out a weapon, they would need another player to cut them lose. Or have somewhere in cities to be able to do this, i can see this being abused but would also help against Bandit players or use a captured bandit as bait. What do you guys think?

The way i see this work is if the target is somehow unconscious or something of the sorts. Maybe a blunt weapon or taser could come along with the restraining tools.

ok check it out, ive been thinking about this and heres how it should work. you can only tie up player who are unconscious(frankieonPC would love this) that way when they wake up the would not be able to hit you and you can interogate them or force them into an internment camp but you should not be able to actually interact with them in ways such as dragging. once they get up assuming their leg is not broke they can try to run but you can just knock them over(this is assuming there will be some sort of melee system or something of that sort). and if they manage to get away or you leave them they will be unbound after a short time. i think it would work.

Edit* OR! a better idea is simply being able to use the "drag" function on a player and once he wakes up he can struggle out, and handcuffs or zip ties would extend the amount of time you can hold on to him. that would be the simplest thing with a good mix of functionality and simplicity.

I like the idea for multiple reasons, but they could be used as an evil troll tool. I have my masochistic side but being trolled is too far even for me.

There's absolutly no way they would consider adding this feature. I'm so sorry. But as a gamer and as an amature game developer I'd like to give you some insight why. ONE, the main reason, what if you got handcuffed and impaired what would you do? That would totally ruin the fun if you couldn't move at all. Take Red Dead Redemption for example. A great game, in singleplayer you constantly use the rope to do strange things like tie a man and put him on the tracks, wrangle a horse or tie up a baddie to bring to the local law office. But there's no lasso in multiplayer? If you we're riding you horse like a magestic kick-arse lawbringer dude riding a bull, and all of the sudden you get whipped off by a noob with a lasso and are tied down and left what do you do? You're a sitting duck. And if an arse-hole sucha s myself decides to guard you tied up body as a sniper kiling anyone who tries to get near you'll sit there for years.

I like this idea but it has a couple of obvious "quirks" that would need to be worked out.

For instance:

  • How do you escape imprisonment?
  • Will you be able to log off safely when imprisoned?
  • Will these tools/items always be available, be common or be uncommon?
  • When can you be imprisoned?

The above listed are important for such a feature to be viable. For instance, nobody want's to be imprisoned for a long time without being able to do anything.

So obviously there would have to be a way to break free, like moving a certain number of meters away from the person who grabbed you or a timeout or even an active action that you could take to break free. (Possibly with a suitable animation and sound so the "guard" can see/hear you try and break loose)

I would go for option 1 and 3, moving out of range from the guard/kidnapper would free you and/or using the break free option would free you after 20-30 seconds of struggling with it.

And if caught trying to break free, the options lie with the guard(s) really... Kill the prisoner or knock him out? (thus canceling the break free attempt)

As for logging off, as long as your character is imprisoned it will stay on the server. That means, unless you break free or escape by foot (as described above) you will not be able to leave safely. Your character will still be around, inanimate and incapable of defending itself from whatever harm there may be.

Of course, if the arrester/guard/kidnapper logs off or moves away (as described above) your character is instantly freed and is released from the server. (So yeah, a server restart will release all captives too obviously)

So, what about if you wanted to switch servers when arrested? How would that work then?

This is a tough one really and the easiest (and possibly the most reasonable solution) would be that if you log onto another server then all gear you had is dropped (and temporarily stored) on the server you played on where you where imprisoned. Additionally, if you are killed on the server you where imprisoned on you die on whatever server you are now playing on with a suitable message.

Alternatively, if you log off when imprisoned you outright die... No questions asked and no explainations given as to the cause of your untimely demise.

Ok, so how do someone arrest another player? First off, there should be a knockdown action (only possible from behind with an audible *thunk* sound) when close to another player as exists in ACE. You can only arrest someone that is knocked down (same as unconscious) and you would use a piece of rope, zip ties or handcuffs to arrest the player with. All with varying strengths, for instance, ropes can be reused but are the easiest to break free from. Zip ties are single use only (and the most common found) but are hard to break free from. Finally, handcuffs are the toughest to break free from and are once again reusable and thus quite rare to find.

If the prisoner escaped (without breaking the cuffs/ropes) he gets to keep them for himself. (Obviously not in the case of zip ties)

And here is where i add another suggestion to the big picture, add the ability to relieve an arrested/uncounscious player of his weapons so that, in the case of him breaking free, he doesn't automatically get the drop on his captives (unless of course they don't search him properly, then they have themselves to blame for death or whatever)

A freed captive who is now (inevitably) unarmed still has the option to knock down other players and return the favor.

As a final option, the captive can choose to "give up" and just commit suicide. But doing so would penalize him on his next spawn. Starting with 6,000 blood instead of the default 12,000

As i see it, this solves most problems and allows good guys and pirates/bandits alike to maintain security while still keeping the game enjoyable for the captives.

And as i see it, this would make it so you don't have to shoot and expose yourself needlessly and harm/kill other players you don't have any interest in. It also allows a good guy time to move away from the captive and get to a safe distance where the captive won't be able to shoot him in the back. (Obviously you would use zip ties in this case so the captive doesn't get something for free)

On a final note, a captive would still be able to ride in the back of vehicles. Walk/run about and eat food/drink water, pick up food/water for consumption and nothing else and would otherwise be at the mercy of his captors. Allowing captured players to be driven to locations around the map. (Taxi service etc)

A captives backpack/gear would also still be carried by the prisoner, allowing the captors to place items into it / take items out of it as they please.

I was thinking about this sort of thing too. The idea I had was to make it so the victim could always free themselves, but there would be a 30sec delay or something.

During this delay the victim would perform a blatant animation indicating they were freeing themselves; allowing the hostage taker to see (if paying enough attention), and decide if they should warn the victim or shoot them for disobeying.
