Not really. Once you're in you play as free as a bird. The whitelisting keeps the idiots out so that you can enjoy a hack free server and play DayZ how it's meant to be played. All of the rules are common sense.

I dig that the aim is to build an actual community, by making sure everyone is involved in TS and the forums. But the extra steps make it it too easy to put off until later, and then maybe forget to do it at all.

Np - The Aussie server that is more established and using the same rules has frequently been ranked number 1 server in Australia, so it's tried and tested :)

Also, you only have to be connected to TS whilst playing, you don't have to talk to anyone. You can sit in an AFK channel. It just makes it easier for admins to deal quickly with any issues.

That's what I did. I applied and didn't really want to mess with the TS. So I got on some other servers and realized they were all plagued by bad admins, idiot script kiddies, and other hackers. I then fired up teamspeak the next day, spoke to some nice aussie gent and got whitelisted to all the BB servers in five minutes. Easy enough and I haven't regretted it since.
