amlaborde@windstream.net 94 Posted December 22, 2012 The pistol in that second video looked like it was a P226 or something like it.
Dylanco1 10 Posted December 22, 2012 Its Highly Plausible but this is relying in Subsonic ammo still as a Full Calibre Round will literally rip it to shreds with the air Alone a Suppressed pistol is actually due to the fact the Sliding action leaves a gap between itself and the barrel for a suppressor to grip a Bottle just wouldnt hold unless its god damn tiny and somehow the tape doesnt cover it a Revolver however is a different story all together you might just sustain it but still the sound wouldnt be muffled much unless again this bottle is made of steel and surrounded by rubber
liamcz@hotmail.com 98 Posted December 23, 2012 (edited) Wouldn't be a ba idea at all. I usually buy $2 coke bottles and thread them into the threaded cap on the end of one of my rifles. Shoot a hole through it once attached and it literally lasts forever. Well, it hasn't broke after about 1,500 rounds through it anyway. However for the SA or whenever this idea may be implemented, I'd say give the bottles a twenty or so round capability before it breaks. Or less - I can imagine that plastic bottles will be in abundance. Also, you can suppress a 12G with a water balloon.. No joke. Look it up on YouTube. Wouldn't be a bad idea if it was assumed the survivor had the skills, parts could be found to actually machine a proper suppressor. I have done it before. It isn't particularly hard. Both 9mm & .45 ACP I have manufactured a suppressor for. A cylindrical tube of steel with clay plated metal cups as buffers, 3 inline with each other running down the tube. Although that's adding an entirely new aspect to the game...Also, adding to Dylanco's post - as I said earlier, any pistol with the ability to attach a suppressor has an extended threaded barrel (unless internally suppressed, of course). This means a bottle would not be too difficult to attach to the extended barrel which pertrudes beyond the end of the upper reciever. Here in Australia, due to laws we can only have handguns which have a barrel length beyond ~120mm (I think -I can't quite remember what). On our Glock 17's, the barrel is always extended as much to meet these requirements. So it is quite possible. I've also got a USP which has an extended barrel to meet the requirements. DiazWaffleCrabstro 39 Posted December 24, 2012 If you have played Max Payne 3 this year, then you should remember that in one of the later chapters he finds some duct tape and a plastic water bottle and fashions together a little suppressor for his pistol. It only lasts a handful of shots before blowing off of his gun.One thing being, it doesnt work. There are 2 ways this thing can come out. 1.) the bottle breaks on first shot, not really muffling the shot at all. 2.) you need insane amounts of time, carefully carving grooves to the bottle, to fit another bottle inside and fitting alternating layers of steelwool and papermesh, and sealing them in between the 2 bottles, only for it to last 2-3 shots(and not even muffle it too much)What if this were put into the standalone of the game? Since I hear there will be a crafting section added, you would just need a low caliber pistol, duct tape, and an empty plastic bottle. Craft them together to create a suppressor that only lasts 3-5 shots.. It would be ideal to deal with pursuing infected without stirring the whole town, or bandits close by.What do you think? It just wount work, even the commercial supressors for one time use(that actually decrease the sound for 15+desibels,yeah thats right, only 15!!!) for low caliber weapons, last for around 10-12 shots, and they are made of thick composite materials. i am having a hard time believing a well made plastic bottle supressor would last beyond the first shot, and would involve too much work to make it viable. HouBaby74 6 Posted December 25, 2012 This is a good idea IMO, and for the suppressor to stay on longer the player could use subsonic ammo which would be more rare than standard ammo. Maybe 10 shots with subsonic and 3 or 4 with standard ammo. Maybe allow the diameter of the plastic bottle block the iron sights of most weapons.
harley001 315 Posted December 25, 2012 A suppressor is more then just a longer barrel...I think. I dunno I am just a internet commando everything I know about guns is from Wikipedia and FPS Russia. A custom suppressor would be good though but can it be anything but a water bottle plz.. How about a metal tube you find on the ground or something. Or a tiny pipe you cut in half. A suppresor that's even available on civilian markets last thousands of rounds.

Own many myself, but lack the legal stuff to own a suppressed firearm.

Basically, a supressor is a lengthened, thicker barrel with the same diameter of the original, with (depending on the quality of supressor and caliber of weapon) 3-5 individual individual chambers that capture the gases from the explosion of being fired, thus lowering the amount of gas that escapes the barrel, and therefore lowering the noise level of the shot.

A supressor made of a water bottle would essentially be a supressor, made of a thin material, that would not absorb sound well or handle the exploding gas well, and have one chamber. The effects of suppression can be greater if subsonic ammo is used, which is basically ammo that is loaded with a smaller amount of powder in order to prevent breaking the sound barrier, which is one of the factors of the loud "BANG" you hear when firing a gun Edited December 25, 2012 by HouBaby74
enforcer1975 1111 Posted December 25, 2012 I hate to shatter your dreams...but there are no .22 in the game and i wonder if they will actually create some considering they haven't even managed to remove the bugs in the game after working with the engine for over 10 years.
