DayZ- Blood Types

I spammed Enter so this isn't a hard to comprehend/read wall of text!

Now let me tell you all something before i start the real reason this is for, i dont have DayZ yet(hope to get for Christmas) so please correct me on my messups.(and my Engrish :D)

I had an idea to have the Players have blood types, because a majority of people that play this game like it because of the struggle and the survival ect. If the players have blood types it will make a new Challenge for them either trying to find a (new item) *Blood Bag with their blood type* or force them to find a player to help them with the blood needed. This will not only make a new challenge, but also affect peoples karma more so, we might have more Heroes, or bandits. It will be like the real blood types:

A&B= Most common

AB&O= The Rarest

*reminder if you forgot which can take which*

A can take from O and A and give to A and AB

B can take from O and B and give to B and AB

AB can take from all, but only can give to AB

O can give to all, but only recieve O

The players should be able to find these new Blood Bags in hospitals, you guys can design what it looks like, but it should probably say Blood Bag: Type ___. I hope you guys will take some time to think about this after you finish the hacker problem. :thumbsup:

You all had great suggestions, except the guy who doesnt like challenges, ive decided to come up with this:

At the beginning the player will be asked a question after or before the character selection, like Is it better to recieve from all, or give to all, or to Recieve and give to a few? It will tell you your blood type after the selection, and it's your job t remember it.

If they Pick:

Recieve from all- They would be AB

Give to all-O

Recieve and give to a few- A or B

but, the thing with this is A and B will be the rarest probably, so we might just have to use random spawn. WE WILL USE IT

If you guys can help me with better questions to ask, im sure this idea will get better.

I've been thinking about The comment about people respawning to get the type they want, i've come up with this:

They keep the same blood forever,using the acount info so it will stay.

Let them do it, average life isn't that long.

Add a thing where you can only pick your blood every 1day, or week (possibly month) It will be on the same menu that will be disabled and say: Sorry you must wait (time) before you can change your blood type!

The idea about not knowing your blood type is interesting to me, i like it, but were going to have to think of ideas to find out how to find it. I liked the idea about the test tubes and the med kit tester.

I also Decided that if it is the wrong type of blood, you will catch a disease(later refrence) or you will slowly loose blood over time.

Good idea, may be a aim to implement. It would add for some more tears when you find a survivor who has every kind but the one you need!

I think this goes with the need to overhaul the blood/health system in general. Blood should only needed to be given in serious blood loss situations. Blood should be regenerated over time with the consumption of food/drink.

Would also be nice if you could extract blood from another player.

The only downside is how will this be added? Will it be randomly generated when you created a player, or will it be something a player can choose upon creating their character. Reason I ask, is if it is unknown to the player then there will obviously have to be a means to determine what blood type you have.

I think we will see something like this eventually in the SA though, it is fitting in the "spirit" of the game.

No, no and no. This can make game too annoying. It looks good on the paper but it won't be fun at all. I'd rather suggest to make blood bags more rare.

Make an item that helps you determin your blood Type, like a Test Tube of some kind. (Spawns in Hospitals and ambulances).

And give the Player the Option to Drain his own blood provided he has a empty blood bag, so he has some of his blood in Reserve.

- a Players bloodtype should be randomly selected upon spawn, without telling the Player, otherwise One would just respawn untill One has the best blood Type (AB i think can receive any other)

-a Players blood should also regenerate slowly over Time, like in Real live, provided the Players character has enough Food and water

Well, looks like someone is being lazy. Take a Challenge when it is offered, its not like finding Moutain Dews or NVGs are any easier.

Once DayZ becomes a Standalone, you will have to use more than a bandage for gunshot wounds. Let some creativity in you dont always have to look on the negative side of things. Btw i heard Diseases will be in the stanalone possibly... fix that with a bandage.

No - the reason being most servers are 40-50 players only, and its already hard enough to find someone to give you a blood transfusion. Add in blood types and no one will bother to waste space in their backpack with an item that will have such a low chance of being utilized.

Blood types will lead the way towards direct transfusion, survivor-to-survivor.

*inserts taunt about how the game is hardcore and blah blah blah*

I'm surprised some people are actually opposed to this.

This would simply make players plan ahead, choosing blood-types that'll suit their team. It'll also cause them to have to make more hospital runs, as opposed to just stock-piling. GOD I HATE LINEBREAKS.

I agree with the Op more or less. I think a lot of people on the forums lack creativity and vision, and simply see the mod and thinks the game should stay within those tight confines.

Day Z mod is more or less Arma with a Zombie element and some other pretty minor changes (because it is). Weather, Eat/Drink, and Looting. I've noticed a lot of people who are opposed to certain things of the game because it doesn't seem like the mod. The standalone should, and will be much different from the mod in many aspects.

There are some suggestions that just don't fit with the design and vision of the game. There are some suggestions that fit with the vision of the game but would be impossible to implement. Other suggestions that have already been confirmed, or considered. We don't know what is going to happen with SA unless Rocket tells us what he is adding, so we can only make "suggestions" that a lot of people generally have already suggested or discussed about.

The Ops suggestion fits within the vision of the game, and for all we know could be something Rocket has already been considering because of that. We know he wants to get indepth with the medical system so to think this is not even a possibility would be pretty foolish.

As with any idea, there are issues that would need to be very well thought out before implementation.

I find OP's idea interesting. Would it actually work "in game"? who knows? But, IMHO a great suggestion.

Haha, don't get me wrong as many have probably noticed... There are a lot of bad suggestions... and some people need to just realize that those suggestions don't fit in with the style of this game.

Interesting thought, but I don't think this would fly.

Firstly all blood bags should be removed anyway (and maybe replaced with saline) as blood products would expire very quickly without appropriate freezing/refrigeration.

Secondly, you are correct that type O (negative) is a universal donor bag that (first point not withstanding) can be essentially given to anyone (although occasional reactions with mismatch of other blood typing systems (e.g. Kell, Duffy, etc). There are usually emergency units in hospitals of O neg. which can be given to anyone if blood-typing would take too long - we could assume that the blood bags in the Arma II are these units.

This idea is great but I really don't think you should be told what blood type you are. You should do some in game test to find out :) that would be awesome and would create some new exiting challenges.

would be too easy... everybody chooses 0 as bloodtype and everything would be as it was before...

you should make the bloodtype as a random addition too your character and your bloodtype could be showed on your bloodicon

This topic of yous put me into a lot of thinking.On the one hand, a newbie can't just get banged up by zombies/bullets, have a bad bleeding, only to find someone who doesn't carry the blood he needs.But on the other hand, I'm all in for more realism.So, taking into account the rarity of blood bags, the rarity of their locations and how hard it is to get there, I say yes.But I also support the creation of a small, relatively rare "bloodbox" that will essentially be a box containing 1 blood bag for each blood type.Spawns where all other medical boxes do, but is harder to find.

Perhaps you would need to test your blood-type by finding a blood-type testing kit in a hospital or a pharmacy.

Or better yet-- trial and error.
