Hello there

Some servers have a List of people they allow onto the server.

That is a white list.

You usually have to apply to be put on the list.

A Blacklist is a list of naughty people barred from the server.

You usually have to appeal to get off the Blacklist.

Whitelist good

Blacklist bad.

Private servers/hives can choose to implement a whitelist on their servers, anyone that isn't on their whitelist will be kicked. Most will require you to signup to their forums/website etc and apply to be added to their whitelist. This helps prevent cheaters joining.
