Shotgun damage should be instant kill, and potential for multiple kills.

Anyone seen what a load of buckshot does? Or even a load of pellets at short range? And a ball that hits is going to do MASSIVE damage.

One blast from a shotgun at distances of 30 ft or under should be insta-zombie heaven with missing heads, legs and arms.

Double barrel on a pack of zombies should see a lotta flying parts.

Same applies to humans. Shotgun should be a very nasty closeup fight weapon.

The Arma II engine doesn't allow collateral damage. I'm pretty sure that there isn't a physics engine for rag dolls either. Sorry to ruin the idea. :(

I think you guys are definitely underestimating the weapon. All shotguns are 1 hit kills on zombies using slugs. So, no real complain there. As far as chunks going flying, there are VERY few games that do this. L4D and Soldier of Fortune come to mind, but gore porn isn't really a serious feature of any game IMO.

Now as far as player damage goes, the shotgun like any weapon will kill a player with a headshot. Not headshot, it takes 2-3 shots which is better than any of the assault rifles and comparable to sniper rifles. Shotguns also have a chance to instantly "knock out" a player meaning they will pass out and basically be a free kill.

I'm not really sure what the complaint here is. They're starterish guns found commonly. Offset by common, plentiful ammo and comparatively low audible range. Really they're pretty perfectly balanced as far as I'm concerned.

Uhm...according to Dayz wiki, the pellet ammo does 2000 blood for each pellet, it fires 8 of them, and im pretty sure that i killed more than one zombie at once with pellets when they are quite close to each other.

with that damage a shitload of pellets will just obliterate anyone in one shot.

I have to disagree

In my oppinion the shotguns are way to weak especially the Doublebarrel.

One Time I was in the Hospitalroof in Elektro shooting "Zombies" an a Bandit ninja'd himself behind me and shot me with both Barrels (and he Hit me), and i only lost 4000 blood, Turned around and shot him with a 1911, bandaged myself and had my friend give me a bloodbag and walked away.

Whereas I should have been the dead Guy on the Hospitalroof with 16 buckshots in my back.

PS.: the Shotguns a seriously underpowered and/ or buggy as fuck

I can't really speak for the doublebarrel. I think the data for it might be bugged or just plain wrong. I know hitting with it is impossible. If you only lost 4000 blood, his second shot must have not hit you, because the numbers say otherwise. The doublebarrel is widely regarded as THE WORST weapon the in game, and for a very good reason. I would probably agree that it should be buffed slightly, but as far as weapons go in general, side by side doublebarrels are pretty inaccurate and are VERY old guns. Usually older than the lee enfield. Not saying 2 blasts in the back shouldn't kill you, but in terms of overall ability those guns suck ass.

Not uncommon to get two zombles in a tight group with a bucket of pellets, I only carry pellets. I prefer the m1014, but I'm no stranger to the double-barreled.

I think Even One blast of a shotgun (no matter wich) should kill you, or at least insta knock Out because otherwise it not only be useless but rather unrealistic (and Not authentic)

Off topic: 9mm DMG should also be buffed strongly, because more then 10 bulltes to kill a Player .. Come on

Well, never shot anyone with the DB, but i agree that shotguns in general need some rework.

PS: wonder why they didnt put the Saiga in dayz, it could make a nice alternative for those who like shotties.

means he propably had the shakes and didnt aim properly, i remember my 2nd player murder, it was with an m1014, one shot from 50 meters, when the idiot was running at me with a hatchet.

also the doublebarrelel has a nice spread to it, makes it the best close range ambush weapon in the game fast 2 taps from it should garantee a kill unless you got shakes and dont even try to aim.

There is a couple things people need to keep in mind about the shotguns, and every rule here goes 3x for the double barrel.

1. They are close range weapons - This is kind of obvious, but this is where shotguns really shine. Once, I came up behind a guy who had a shotgun, once I saw this I backed away about 50 meters. When I unloaded into him, he only hit me once because the range I was at made it harder to aim at me and harder to hit. When he did hit, it was pretty low damage. Moral of the story is, if you are not in a building, try not to use shotguns too much ( with exceptions of course ),

2. They are ambush weapons - Getting into a firefight with someone with a M4 CCO when you have a shotgun leaves you a pretty good chance of dying. Above, the guy who snuck up on you, if he took the proper time to line up a headshot, you would be dead. Instead he went BOTH BARRELS BITCH! into your back. Shotguns and headshots have a close relationship, lets keep em dating.

Buckshot rounds are great.. I had an 870, took 2 shots at a bandit at Balota. First one hit legs and feet and second shot hit the body. Went straight down.

Shotguns lack penetration and the spread is low because otherwise the range would be even more horrible, and i dont think in real life a single 12 gauge 00 blast would be enough to dismember.

I had a friend who purposely shot another friend. I had an 870 I believe and while he was hiding I snuck up behind him and unleashed about 6 shells of buckshot into his back before he finally went down.

Very under powered in my belief. Same note it sometimes takes two shots to take down a zombie in center mass.

Shotguns shouldn't have automatic "instant kill" capability. Potential for multiple kills seems silly to me, shotguns don't spread out that much. Sure, there is a tiny chance of that happening, but it should not be common.

This is the spread of a riot-type shotgun with 00 buckshot at 25 yards.

11 Pellets in 00 Buck? What is that, a 3 1/2 magnum? My 2 3/4s have 9 pellets each.

Good shot anyway, nice even spread on the target. Yeah, that's about what it looks like. It's something like an inch of spread per yard to the target for a cylinder-bore shotgun like the 870. Note the lack of holes in the center part of the target. If you were 80 yards away instead of 25, you could have that pattern perfectly centered on a man-sized target and not hit anything at all. Luck factors in.

If anything, I'd expect the double-barrel to have a choke in it and thus less spread, or even two different chokes in the barrels for variable spread depending on which trigger you pull. Not sure how to put that in the game, though.

I'd like to see pistols boosted up to around 2500-4000 damage per shot and shotguns pellets put around 2500-3000, with slugs coming in around where 30-caliber rifles live, in the 7000-8000 neighborhood. After all, a .72-caliber ounce of lead is going to do damage on impact comparable to a Lee Enfield shot, if less accurate at range. A 12ga slug should hit a head at 50m and a person at 100m without much trouble, with good sights. Pellets should be effective out to about 25m, with dramatic falloff after that.
