Crew served weapons

Recommended Posts

Crew served weapons, such as M2, Kord, maybe even a light mortar should be added to the game. These weapons are heavy and require two people to carry, one carries the carriage and the other one the gun, these would be awesome for ambushes and for setting up a machinegun on the hill and destroying everything that moves, as i think customisable vehicles are confirmed to be in SA you could put a big gun in your car, and what would be better than driving around in a pickup while your mate desperately tries to hit something with a mortar firing from the back?

Maybe a very rare weapon would be M134 found on crashed helicopters, would be hell to fix and to set up and it would eat lots of ammo and it would have no real uses but think of the message your sending at 3000 rounds per minute!

I would say a vehicle of some sort would be needed to transport these things. I wouldn't want to see 2 people carrying around an M2 + Tripod across Chernarus.

M2 is an awesome weapon. Though it is incredibly heavy. With Weapon + Tripod + Ammo.

crew served weapons.... really? congrats you made one of the dumber suggestions I've seen lately. thats what you where going for correct?

riddle me this, what part of setting up mortar positions and crew served heavy machine gun positions sound 'zombie survival' to you?

dunno if we will survive till tomorrow

dunno what we gonna eat tonight

dunno if the cut I got sifting through cherno will get infected

but if there's one thing I do know, its this 58kg (128 lb) m2 machine gun is vital for us to carry around on our back,

now if only the barracks would spawn the dam user manual so we could figure out how to use it.

Sorry Skrewy, but you don't think civilization will be trying to fortify/defend in the event of an apocalypse? Someone untrained would never be able to fire an M2 unless it was already set up for head space and timing, but there will be trained individuals still alive in an apocalypse. It isn't like the world will be wiped out and the only people who survived are those who watch honey boo boo & jersey shore.

Ikr, it totally goes like

Zombies invade

Every single military item disappears in to the skies

No one cares about zombies and rather just shoot other people

I'd like to see a rare DShK just once, just for giggles. That would be scary as hell.

i like the idea... wouldnt it be cool to sit on a car and fire with an M2 at zombies, that run in your direction, to hold your position until your friends have entered the car and you can drive away?

i totaly agree with you! if we can have freaking as50 and helicopers why shouldn't we have heavy mg's too?

I admit it doesn't really seem realistic, maybe it should be something for the private servers. The Heavy machine guns are a lot more scary in ACE.

...then again, if you can find an AS50 or a Huey...?

M134? NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!

A Dshk? maybe. Those things are heavy as hell and you would need at least three to operate it. A gunner, loader, and ammo bearer. It would be very hard to carry around.

Also 12.7x109 ammunition isn't exactly laying around everywhere.

I would approve of the Dshk if and only if, ammunition was extremely rare. I am thinking that acquiring a single box of 50 rounds would be very very hard to find.

I think people under estimate the power of 12.7x109 and 12.7x99 NATO. Those rounds are were originally designed to shoot down AIRCRAFT and light armor! They wreck anything it hits basically. A Dshk could reach out and touch someone at 1500m easily. People cry about snipers firing .50cal one at a time. A Dshk fires at 600 rpm!

So basically, it would be "overpowered".

People cry about snipers firing .50cal one at a time.

People cry about anything/everything in this game. This is unfair, that is unfair... blah blah blah. I really hope they just make a genuine game and people can cry all they want and no one will listen.

Obviously it would be overpowered if you are on the receiving end, but the thing requires 2-3 guys to carry and assemble and its useless if you get ambushed as you wont have the time to set it up, this would be an excellent counter against helicopters too.

No, not in this game, us lonewolfs will be at extreme disadvantage when teams harness super weapons.

We need less military gear not more!

A crew served weapon like a recoiless rifle might be OK (you know, one of the old, rusty and extremely heavy soviet era ones). As long as its very rare and requires a flat bed truck to mount it on (they have a flatbed with recoiless rifle already in game). Ammo would have to be extremely rare aswell. It would fit with Chernarus because Chernarus itself was in a civil war before the shit hit the fan (I assume because it is like that in ARMA).

I don't want mortars anymore than I want diseases or poo.....

But other crew weapons? why not? Your still going to have to know where someone is to get them with a Heavy MG. And if the sounds are correct, as soon as someone uses one, the rest of us are going to know where they are. Things that can only be used by more than one player and give an advantage might inspire grouping. Things like blood packs that require one player to give to another that help injured players mostly haven't resulted in grouping, and things like diseases likely won't.

No diseases? Hush yo' mouf.

Honestly, grouping happens plenty in this game. Just not in-game. Clans would grab up all the crew-servicable weapons as soon as they were able and this would make playing a loner even more of an imposing prospect than it is (which isn't necessarily bad).

I wouldn't say diseases are designed to encourage grouping but instead add another layer to the onion that is DayZ. What happens if your clan's best sniper has dysentery? The only guy with an AS50? Do you make a risky run into cherno to get him some antibiotics? Kill him (leaving his loot as it would likely pass said disease to you)? Or just quarantine him?

Someday people will realize that Arma and DayZ aren't about balance. Something that is powerful IRL is powerful in game. Arma is a military simulator and DayZ is an infection simulator.

No sure there are certain things that don't reflect the mood of the mod, but that is completely separate from balance.

I honest hope that DayZ Game is at best, unreasonably cruel.

Ah yes, the Hilux mounted with a SPG-9. I have killed several tanks with those. Not really for DayZ though...

This is DayZ, if you want heavy MGs and mortars play vanilla Arma II.

I can extend your logic to apply to all firearms, in fact why not make dayz so that you are a civilian running around amidst zombies looking for food! That'll surely be fun.

*facepalm* that is not what he said at all.

The logic doesn't apply to small arms at all. There is a huge difference between HMGs and mortars and small arms. I can't belief I even have to say this.

His opinion is that heavy weapons aren't really in the DayZ spirit and I see where he is coming from and agree with him.
