exactly..

im a total carebear that never PVP's and i think Namalask is the best map to come out for dayZ yet, including Chernarus.

anyone that says the only thing to do is PVP, simply needs to spend more time with players who understand a sandbox better..

i've managed to keep dayZ fun and interesting (with the new addon maps of course) and have never killed another player. never been bored or felt i'd run out of reasons to login.

Then you shouldn't talk to Rocket as even he has said this and he's the guy that made the mod. They are technically not zombies but rather infected people or what ever he called them and they were meant to die off leaving the survivors alone over time. (ie the game is about surviving and pvp)

The map isn't 'designed' for anything, it is an ArmA map that is used for DayZ. Some people don't seem to realize this

Fixed.

In cherno you get food and fight for weapons

IN Namalsk you get weapons and fight for food.

I like cherno to be honest, but does it make sense that I spawn in electro and in 10 minutes I leave electro with 5 cans of food 5 drinks, all medical supplies, an alice pack matches hunting knife map and a decent starter weapon?

I want to fight for survival gear I don't want it to be handed it to me, food should be scarce not just found everywhere

As an Arma map it's beautiful. I'm not really a fan of the ambient sounds, they seem far too loud and repetitive.

As a DayZ map, I hate it to be honest. It's a big island full of military bases. You spawn freezing to death, perhaps some people enjoy running from base to base looting heat packs and searching for matches, but not me. And even when you get those things, you're just going to be cold again in a couple minutes. Winter clothes, yeah, great. Except, if I was in the climate, why the fuck wouldn't I be wearing them already? I'm already freezing to death for fucks sake.

I want difficulty that makes you think, not difficulty that makes you run around looking for the magically materializing "easy button"(winter clothes).

It's alright; it is strikingly interesting that the loot cycle is reversed from ole Cherna, with people gathering weapons and heading to Vorkuta or the hospitals as opposed to people gathering food and meds and whatnot and heading to NWA. Still, little overkill with the military spawns. It kinda reminds me of Fallujah, which I thought was god awful because it had twelve barracks right next to each other and a city, with a pointlessly large wilderness.

The problem I have with Cherno is it's just too run & gunny and there is no real sense that you are trying to survive vs just playing any other FPS. There is little reason to go anywhere but the big cities because you can find everything you need and if you are looking for combat that's the most active places to be.

seems like a self fulfilling prophecy. you think it's too run & gunny because you think there's no reason to go anywhere but the active combat areas

I've played all over that map and had camps in the north as well as other areas. After awhile it's just pretty boring as there tends to be little interaction with other players out side of random snipers here or there, so the game becomes nothing more than farming gear..

that's fine, but at least those options are still there on Chernarus. there's pretty much no chance of long-term survival on Namalsk

and again, your claim was the Chernarus was too run&gunny. but then you discount the other options as being 'boring' or whatever. I'm not sure what you want

I've said it before and I'll say it again, food isn't hard to find. To me Namalsk seems like a purely PvP map with annoying temperature adjustments.

Has anyone else noticed that every new map seems to push DayZ further and further towards pvp deathmatchdom?

Smaller area, more weapons, better weapons.

I feel that these maps are not really DayZ.

It seems to me that DayZ started with a mature crowd (ArmaII players) who were more patient and less likely to go around murdering each other for the lulz, but as it gained popularity, a younger group started showing up and they lacked the maturity and patience to truly enhabit the DayZ world and have been slowly turning it into a deathmatch game with their in game behaviour and all the new pvp focused maps.

I personally do not like the trajectory the mod has been on.

It's a giant PvP map in my opinion. The first day or 2 you play it, it makes you feel like it's hard to survive on Namalsk, but it's easy. Stay at sea level and you don't need warm clothes, let alone heat packs.

Not to mention about 70% of the towns in game have high level military loot, making getting awesome weapons extremely easy. I went to Object All on my first day and picked up an SVD camo. I already had an Mk 48 at that point.

All the weapons being so easy is great for a small map like Namalsk. When I play it I want to get into fights but when I play on Chenarus I wanna get more immersed and weapons on stairs etc hampers that.Great map though and the food/drink/temp is well done so for me its my PVP map goto.

Namalsk is the most enjoyable PvP map by far. And DayZ consists mostly of PvP at the moment, I'd say it's the best map. Chenarus is far too empty and Lingor isn't as popular as it used to be. So I stick to Namalsk right now.

Chernarus isn't really any more long term survival IMHO. You can't really set up camps as they are just way too easy to find and vehicles are pretty much going to be found with-in a day on a busy server. Meaning just because it's 'bigger' doesn't mean there is any real long term survival ability out side of just being more spread out across the map (assuming you aren't on the coasts).

The entire time I've played on Cherno I've managed to have only one location that I was routinely able to place a tent that was never found/looted. This means you pretty much just have to run with what you can carry. Out side of a few random spots that most know about there is no real way to hide a camp much less secure a base, meaning it's really no different than Namalsk in that matter.

Now I've been playing Celle the last day or two and I think it fits the bill much better than Cherno does for being able to create camps and so forth. The forests are done extremely well with thicker underbrush & trees at the edges while thinning out in the centers which is very realistic. (well for a vid game)

Rockett should really take a look at that map and rework Cherno's forest areas to be more in line with how they did it in Cello.

How much of that is map design and how much of that is people running around using navigator?

O.o Namalsk too pvp oriented you say? Well why you go and run and gun people then try to survive there without doing it then, avoid the run and gun bandits, only enter the military places when its safe and dispose those who are imminent threat to you. This adds a whole new dimension to survival to namalsk. No infinite supply stacking, no vehicle hoarding, military sites ridiculously easy to scan and hold with any decend weapon even alone. Try to survive or be a silly run and gun bandit and die from my bullet.

I think that the difference between warm clothes and not on Namalsk is a deal breaker; once you have clothes, it is no harder than Chernarus. I would like it to be less harsh without warm clothes and more harsh when you have them. And an increase in antibiotics, so it would be an option to look for them instead of dying once you catch infection.

In hindsight, having a good month to play it, No Namalsk didn't get it right for me, I got bored after 2 weeks. It's a good map but not lasting.

How many of you are still playing it?
