Alt F4 is s'posed to bring you to the ingame menu, so if it still works, then it needs fixing. They'll get it eventually, just wait.

Whats the point in a combat timer if you can just alt f4? I have literally seen no less combat loggers than i did before the timer. Seems pretty useless.

Although it may not be a complete fix, when someone Alt F4's while in combat they will come back dead every time. It is a Instant death. The downside is that they will not have a body left over to loot.

I've kinda fallen off the loop as far as updates on the DayZ mod go.

How does the timer work? As in, how does it determine that a player as ALT-F4'd? Detecting key-combinations?

Actually, I believe the instant death feature is not yet implemented into the Combat Timer system.

There is no instant death from combat timer at the moment instead it logs to the server that you have combat logged.

And honestly I hope there never is instant death, not because I have or ever will abuse such a horrible exploit. Rather because I've had my game crash a few times randomly whether from an overclock deciding it doesnt want to play nicely, or the game just locks up from a ram disk error or of course the poor optimization. It's inconvenient when it happens but adding insta death would be devastating.

But I do agree there needs to be some way to reduce combat logging as it is a huge problem. If someone is supossed to die whether from zombies or another player they should accept their fate and die. Fight to the last breathe. Don't respawn if you have a broken leg, crawl!~

I would rather take one for the team when my computer crashes then have it so every time someone gets shot they fucking instalog. I uninstalled the game about a week ago because i can't deal with the people on this game. The people who play this game are the ass pubes of the gaming community. Hacking, combat logging, ghosting, duping.

No. The odds of you're computer HAPPENING to crash while in combat is low unless it crashes all the time. I would rather have it put in for the good of us all then left out just so the 5% who crash during combat can be happy.

Has anyone actually tested alt f4'ing whilst in combat to verify what happens? Ive tried it once, and i wasnt being shot at it was my shots out in the forest alone that put me into the combat timer. I tried it out, re logged the program and came back as a fresh spawn.

I used alt-f4 last week to bail out of a hacked server. The entire server was teleported to the NW airfield. Yes, at least we weren't dropped out of the sky to our deaths (the usual outcome of teleporting), but I wasn't going to wait around to find out what was next.

Logged back in to another server. It put me at the airfield, had all my gear etc. No concequences.

It was actually the first time I ever used alt-f4. With a hacked server....yeah, I'd probably do it again.

If it logs the key press then a crash won't matter - unless u pressed alt-f4 right before the crash so the point is moot. Alt-F4 is valid against hackers though.

You can't build a working system around peoples computers crashing or having unstable internet connections, that's their responsibility to sort out. ATM it's just a testing phase, I'm sure there'll be some version of this in the SA but as with everything it needs to be tested and developed first.

Hello there

Death to the loggers of combat!

In game obviously.

As Fraggle pointed out, Its a shame if one has to use alt f4 due to hard/software, but situations like that happen to a tiny minority of users, frustrating though it is, Rocket cant make a system that suits *everyone* 100pc.

And to the OP, the current system is a work in progress, expect bugs/exploits etc it's great to give feedback, that's what the alpha is for, but let's not judges until things are fully in place.

the odds of your computer crashing during a firefight are way higher than during anything else. when i do crash, which isn't TOO often, it's usually during a fight. not ideal, but it is the kind of issue that would become game-breaking if it caused death every time.

game development actually tends to focus on these issues in exactly such a way. there isn't always a fair way to address it, but in a game like dayz, it is an essential issue to have covered. however, it shouldn't be difficult to have it detect something like a client crash.

This is rather worrying to be honest.

I have some serious BSOD issues with my PC. I have yet to crash in combat, but I'm not exactly looking forward to the day it happends.

How hard is it to implement a system that keeps your character around for 20 seconds after quiting (like in World of Warcraft for example)?

Hello there

It may be very hard indeed. I doubt the dev's do things like this to spite some users.
