dirtylemur 3 Posted November 18, 2012 Hatches allow you to collect wood, right?Crowbars should allow you to collect random car parts. You all have seen the piles and piles of busted cars and damaged vehicles that are part of the environment, if it were possible to add an option to the crowbar allowing you to pry parts off of cars that would be awesome. This way all the damaged vehicles that are part of the environment can be scavenged. I was thinking it would have to have a timer or something or have it area based to keep you from massing tons of parts. However, I don't believe you would need to have an inventory of parts in a region making this thing finite. I imagine it could be like the hatchet in this way, but if you put a timer on it, or something that discourages endless use over and over that would probably help in implementation.so could be something similar to this:use crowbarcheck for these various types of vehicle wrecks in the environment < 10 meters or less?check for 6 spaces of inventory room in users main pack. perform the "doing something" animation for 2 minutes. (a long timer would discourage over use.)yield random car part to inventory of user. Thanks guys, I love this mod, I love how brutal it is, keep up the great work!!!!!!! <3 <3
ketsa 41 Posted November 18, 2012 (edited) This is exactly what I want to be put in.If Rocket ever introduces a "Lock n Key" (I doubt he will) system for vehicles then you could also use a crowbar to get in the car.The scroll menu could say "Salvage RF Wheel" or "Salvage Engine", Of course you couldn't salvage the hull as it would turn to scrap but you get what I'm saying.I also wouldn't mind a siphoning kit, or some way to fuel up vehicles/helis alot faster. HOSES ROCKET GIVE ME HOSES! :)Edit: Rereading what OP says about a timer, I think its a ridiculous amount of time, it doesn't take that long to cut down a tree, and you are suggesting we use the crowbar just like the hatchet. Also, instead of salvaging any old car, make it drivable cars. Then you wont have to add a timer, and you cant farm for parts. Edited November 18, 2012 by ketsakunta

Mr Nasty 1023 Posted November 19, 2012 Yeah I wouldnt mind seeing a purpose for the crowbar. Maybe pry open doors or hatches in buildings to reveal some loot or something.
CptMugwash 16 Posted November 19, 2012 If doors become barricadable then a crowbar or axe would be good to get in, idk if you can get the car parts should use a toolbox for that, anyways, it is a bit silly the way the parts are now, oh hey I've found a main rotor assembly, i can fit it in my backpack? wtf? The way this should be done is turn the parts into 'parts' like fuel tank parts, engine parts, rotor assembly parts, etc. making it a bit more believable, and also with wheels, the slots they take up should be increased to 2 or more, irl you could carry 2 wheels but struggle a bit. Penny Sue 77 Posted November 19, 2012 Yeah I wouldnt mind seeing a purpose for the crowbar. Maybe pry open doors or hatches in buildings to reveal some loot or something. This would be a far more appropriate use of the crowbar. To scavenge (usable!) parts from vehicles you need a bunch of tools. Usually when I resort to the crowbar while working on cars I break something =P I love the premise of the idea; scavenge parts from other vehicles to fix up another one. I just think you should use a tool kit instead of a crowbar.
flayer0 34 Posted November 19, 2012 great idea. I never liked how 90% the cars in chernarus were exploded/wrecked for no apparent reason(at least in my mind). Having this would explain why the cars in chenarus are undriveable, the players before you looted them for parts.
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) I don't think a crowbar would be able to salvage much from a vehicle. But both concepts (a use for crowbar / reclaim car parts) are good ones.AFAIK the devs are already planning a vehicle salvage scheme of some kind. Just have to wait and see.For the crowbar, I'd like to be able to bust open doors/crates/containers/windows for player access or loot storage. Maybe some extra loot spawns only accessible with a crowbar?(not different loot, just more spawn points; Delivery crates at the supermarket etc.) Edited November 19, 2012 by Chabowski
Shavitz 10 Posted November 19, 2012 (edited) great idea. I never liked how 90% the cars in chernarus were exploded/wrecked for no apparent reason(at least in my mind). Having this would explain why the cars in chenarus are undriveable, the players before you looted them for parts. But somehow it already explains why there are so few cars in drivable condition. Because the wrecks have already been salvaged for the most important parts, so just the wrecks still remain.Anyhow, a nice idea to scavange some wrecks. And really have a use for the crowbar.Edit: Added a line. Edited November 19, 2012 by Shavitz
SpittyTheDude 18 Posted November 19, 2012 When I hear crowbar and car, I can only think of smashing the windows or maybe breaking the doors open. You can not remove any car parts with only a crowbar, trust me. We already have the toolbox, that would be far more useful.Right now you can find engine blocks and carry them around... yeah sure - I can take 200kg on my back. Remove that completely and put some useful parts in like spark plugs, thermostats or starter batteries, alternators to replace and make cars run again. Those would be some common parts to wear off in such a cold environment. As someone stated before, the most useful function of the crowbar should be to break barricaded doors open.
