DayZ becoming a standalone..

Recommended Posts

Okay, I think it's a good idea that it will become a game on it's own so that people don't have to buy ArmA CO but what will happen to the people that are currently playing DayZ with ArmA CO?

The game becomes a stand alone but what will happen to the mod? Would current players have to buy the game when it's released to keep playing or what? How exactly is this going to work out?

I'm pretty sure I saw somewhere that Rocket'd keep the mod as sort of a "testing" for Standalone stuff, who knows?

I hope an Arma 3 DayZ mod comes out, though...

I was thinking about that as well. I was just reading about the new things ArmA III will have and wow! It's a lot of improvements.

But still..I'm still curious as to how this whole stand alone thing will work out. Will people that play the mod now stay or will they buy the stand alone?

So many questions, can't find any answers ~.~

The standalone is a separate game, the mod however I believe he is going to be working with the community to keep it up to date and as bug free as this mod can possible be the mod never will be though which is why he is making a standalone. The mod basically isn't going to be able to go much further than it is now simply because the arma engine wont allow it, so everyone should buy the standalone at least to try it out and if they don't like it they can go back to the mod or play both at the same time.

They will either buy the standalone, continue to play the mod, or stop playing at some point.

It will continued to be developed, potentially by the community.

Would current players have to buy the game when it's released to keep playing or what?

"Current players" are people that are current players of Arma2, the game they bought and chose to mod with a zombie mod. If they want to own a copy of a new zombie game, they'll need to buy that too.

I was just reading about the new things ArmA III will have and wow! It's a lot of improvements.

The standalone DayZ game will not be on the Arma3 engine, rather it will be on an updated Arma2 engine, used first on a game called Take on Helicopters, and further refined for DayZ.

Will people that play the mod now stay or will they buy the stand alone?

Only time will tell.

Maybe mods are becoming so rare now that people don't understand. They can't be stopped purely because the creator has moved on to something else. They only die when no one uses them. Arma II has so many mods that if the DayZ hives all vanished your zombie fix could still be satisfied with the many other zombie related missions. You can also host your own MP server for whatever you want.

Arma II is hardly a wasted purchase even if you have no interest in the military side and DayZmod fades away.

But as BIS has said many times:

"Original games never fade"

you will not be forced to buy the standalone, i'm sure you could still play "dayzmod".

So much replies. Holy crap .__.

Well thanks for the information. I'm new to both the mod and the forums.

I've played the mod twice..the last time I played it some jerk purposely ran me over with a car, and after that I haven't played since. But I've been thinking of playing again. Glad to know there will still be updates..I'm eager to see how the standalone will be.

Out of everything, I would consider being run over one of the greatest deaths. I find it hilarious, regardless of what gear I had.

Don't fear death...embrace it.

And above all, have fun!
