Weird things that happened...

Recommended Posts

SO, I just started DayZ today, and something kinda odd happened to me.

Well, I'v been playing all day pretty much, but i just stopped because i felt the need to report what happened on a server, which i can only describe as odd.

Getting into the server was the usual. Spawn in on a coastline, look around to get your bearings, blah blah. Same old same old, you know? as always, my first thought is loot, so i head to me right, what i had, at the time, thought to be my east. I walked a little bit, and saw a small industrial style port, nothing out of the ordinary yet.

I ran up, and began rummaging through the building, but all i found where i had previously found good loot(i know loot spawns change) was junk. empty cans and the such. I ran around the entire place, and this was all i found. Not a single bullet, canteen, or even a coke. Just, junk. Now, i try to emphasize that i ran around the ENTIRE complex, and there was no one but me.

However, upon leaving, i was gunned down by someone. I didn't see his name, he didn't say anything, he just gunned me down, and i was dead.

Now, i respawn. same as always , hopwever this time i notice something i should have noticed before. No Zombies. And i don't mean no zombies as in no zombies around me, i mean no zombies as in NO ZOMBIES WHAT SO EVER on the entire map. I found this odd, but dismissed it due to the fact that i thought maybe someone made the server like this to encourage player interaction or something, or it was just a glitch. upon asking about it, i got no reply.

so i explored. i did find a very large town, and upon closer inspection, again, i found no loot what soever besides empty tin cans and the like. However, i did see another player. Just for an instant, and i didn't know whether he saw me or not. He ran around a corner and i chased him, hoping to kill him, but i was waiting to fire until just the right moment.

I ran around the corner and he was just gone. I looked everywhere, through the entire city and he had just dissapeared. granted he may have logged off.

Now i start to wonder if something strange really IS going on here. I notice the game world not only sounds, but looks different. The sounds, the background music i guess, was strange, as though, more then ever it was emphasizing eerieness. Like a full scale horror game. And while it may have been the lack of zombies, the world too, looked strange, like there was something off, but i couldn't tell what.

So, i continued on. Sprinting on roads for what as about an hour maybe more or less. Eventually i came to a dirt road, one that looked like it was barely even there, one that hadn't been walked for ages, you know?

I went down said path, and nothing was really off, for a moment anyways. Somewhat down the road there were trees and bushes growing right in the middle of it. Now slightly to the side or anything, just sitting there, right in the middle of the road. i had to take detours around them to continue on the road.

i feel the need to mention what was going on in chat. People were constantly connecting, and then disconnecting seconds later. maybe it was the lack of zombies, but it was like people were logging in, saw something they didn't like, and were just gone, without saying anything about it.

Now, after this strange road had ended, i was in a small open area with a few buildings. the one i could go in had nothing in it.

I skipped over most of this area and started down a new road, however this one took me to a coast. As i crested a small hill, and left the forest i was in, i could see the beach, and far off to my left was a tall light house on a cliff. this was decidedly to be my next goal.

I got down to the beach, and off to my right i could see what looked to be another port of some kind, but i still was headed for the light house. However, turning away from the port, as if out of thin air a player appeared, wearing all black, and killed me. Not a word, not asking if i was friendly or anything, he just killed me. thats when i came here.

Now, if you want to see the server for your self, it was "Atlanta" something in the DayZ launcher. I chose this because "Atlanta, Georgia", Georgia being the place i live. I figured it'd be better to choose servers near me. i can not remember the rest of the server name.

Now, to more experienced players this may all be explained simply, but to a noob like me i found it very odd. I have always held the firm belief that every video game holds secrets, whether it be put their by the creators, modders, or even be a glitch, i always have the feeling that every game has secrets. so, i maybe jumping to assumptions and the like, but what do you think??

Servers with 0 zombies means 0 loot. You want better loot, find a server with a huge amount of zeds. As for the player in black, no clue. The game does give that feeling though doesn't it? It's just way to vast and open, and in a server where it's only 1-10 players you can't help but feel there is something out there that shouldn't be there, something just beyond you eyes.

It's a weird feeling, but I think we all have it. Whether or not that feeling is just our nerves, or something is actually there is something else entirely.

Thanks! Tbh, playing this server felt like a horror story.

And I'm sure it was bugged, but like i said before, i think all games have secrets, some are just bugs though. ;)

Wonder what else I might find in DayZ? Haha

Your story reminds me of playing GTA San Andreas and looking for Bigfoot on Mt. Chilliad at night. It didn't matter that it was a myth, the fact that something MIGHT be there was enough. I wish this game had a little more of that feeling. (Perhaps it will in time.)

No kidding my friend.

There was an old old Ps2 game, it came out years ago. in the game, the main character played his character in an online game called "The World". In "The World" there were certain things, and when a player was killed by these things in game, they would go into a coma.

Now that right there, the Dot Hack series, really, for me, started this whole philosophy of every game having secrets. That feeling of something existing that shouldn't, and finding it, or finding something hidden from the rest of the world, it really is great isn't it? Lately I'v been thinking about the possibility of forming an online community dedicated to finding the secrets of games.

I don't know how well it would work out, but it's an idea.

Anyways, this topic has almost entirely derailed, so i suggest if someone wants to say anything besides "it's a bug" as we've already established, you PM me.
