Base building ideas (How it should be done)

ARMA 2"S base game has the abilty of construction. For example you can build WALLS such as the H-Barrier or.... MG EMPLACEMENTS.... and..... BARBED WIRE

I"m sure you can transfer this over to DAY-Z with a little coding, right?

It would work something like this..... Little Timmy and his friends acquire a toolbox. Little Timmy uses his mouse scroll and sees "Construction" he opens up "Construction" and finds all kinds of things he can build. For a price.... Little Timmy notices he has $0 Little Timmy notices something else after that called "Buy Weapons" he opens up "Buy Weapons" and sees a list of his inventory items he double clicks on his M249 SAW and earns cash..... he then double clicks on his road flares and earns $10 construction money. He then opens up construction again and notices he has $3010 ,he can now build a variety of things anywere he wants to.

Optional Things

He decides to build a "Headquarters" for $3000. Little Timmy notices in "Buy Weapons" He can now buy a variety of guns like the M107 or mabye a silenced Makarov PM (Which is only buildable/obtainable from a base)

Very controversial things that are optional

Little Timmy.... pops up his map.... theres something diffrent... All the towns have squares in them and a list of how much $ they give..... he heads to one of the towns with the squares.... it"s calle Komorovo. Once he gets there.... after about 2 minutes at the square he pops up his map... Komorovo is now (Pick a color) and he is getting $$$ from the town.

He invites his friends over..... Timmy decides to make Komarovo

histeams base of operations. He builds H-Barriers and barbed-wire at the Komorovafactory and builds an MG Nest and alot of H-barriers at the roof of it. He builds a "Light Factory" he now has the option to build

a HMMWV,Offroad Pickup,Ural,and HMMWV M2.(Keep out the HMMWV Avenger and TOW.... we aren"t building none of that) After getting ALOT of money he builds a helipad.... He can now build (Insert helis that should be buildable in DAY-Z).

All of the sudden bandits start shooting at Timmy"s base. Timmy raises the alarm and his team fights valiantly but loses. (During this time he cannot build) The bandits take over Timmy"s base.... when the head bandit takes Timmy"s toolbox from his body. All of Timmy"s buildings and fortifactions/Cash go under the bandits control.

More things that could/probaly shouldn"t be implemented in the system

Timmy builds a Barracks.... he can now build controllable AI members

This is just the base idea.... it could be exploited by server hopping into a base and then shooting everyone in the back and also how a person could put H-Barriers around all of Elektro. (Mabye we should limit how many blocks are buildable per H-Barrier buy.)

The only way this would be viable is if the Zombie element of the game had a large increase in difficulty (as well as giving other players a motivation to attack said emplacements).

I'm all for the idea and I was/am gearing up to make a suggestion similar but it'll have to be a very fleshed out idea for Rocket to consider it I think, but it's a great outline. I totally agree this needs to be expanded on.

Base building: YES.

But not like this.

The 'buying' system is, well, crap. If you want to build bases, you should have to find stuff and fix stuff up. I know you don't want to have to think 'I want to build a tower, but it'll take 30 Hueys load of wood to have enough materials.' TOUGH. You want it, GO GET IT.

Your meant to be scrabbling in the dirt to hang on to your life, not trading in surplus weapons for materials from nowhere.

Children, there used to be a saying in the 'old times'...

'YOU WANT SOMETHING, YOU WORK FOR IT.'

Not QQ on a forum til you get your own way. (that saying that you are OP, just pointing out a common theme on ALL game forums.)

But yeah base building would be a great inclusion in DayZ, but server hopping HAS to fixed before theres any point even coding any of this, and it NEEDS to be done in a way that it takes HARD work to achieve. Like 20 x harder than getting a helicopter fixed at least.

IF server hopping is fixed, yes, base building could be interesting.

BUT there would have to be a difficulty factor to it.

Building a watchtower should be possible, but only with a lot of material, so that you bese build the basic stuff, make it some sort of trade post where people have to give wood to enter, then use all of the wood to build your makeshift tower.

There are already possibilities to have sandbags and barbed wire and I think hedgehogs (D-Day a la playa style, the tank traps).

basicly this.

Buying would fuck up the entire theme and ambience of the game.

If u want to build a wall for example you'd have to find a shitload of wood/stone whatever to build it. Not money.. Money is useless in this game..

Imagine this: You go to a dude who says he's selling X for 10€ now u go there, pay him 10€ and he shoots you :) or the other way around. U sell something, someone comes to "buy" it and he shoots you for giggles and loots your stuff.
