How could DayZ fail?

Recommended Posts

We all like to talk about what DayZ could do to go to the next level and improve upon the great foundation that has already been laid.

But, to play devil's advocate, what are some definite missteps that DayZ could take which would make many fans cry out in protest?

Rocket once said "it's not like it can get any worse".. Or can it? I think it's good to focus on improvements, but equally important to be aware of what could go wrong.

I'll start. I think that it would be a great folly for Rocket and Co. to not take optimization seriously. I know he has said that new zombie models will help, but how much? Many players have to play on low settings and still suffer 20-30 FPS or even lower. Personally, I have an i5-3570K and a GTX 690 and I still drop to 40FPS in towns and cities.

i tink the game (the SA here) could fizzle out if number 1 the sciddies arent removed from the game in the strongest possible way.

rite now people kinda put up with the risk of it due to the mod being free. but on a paid for game no ones gunna stand for free reign hacking/scripting.

number 2 if they dont add more things to do besides KoS for the Lulz along the coast.

number 3 i think the they need to seriously change the way the game is played "after" you get geared up..right now those with gear just hunt othe rplayers cuz theres nothing for them to do after they get said gear.

rite now teh mod is pretty shallow in terms of what to do after getting whateva you deem necc. to enjoy your gametime.

least thats how i see it in terms of importance of things to keep DayZ from failing at SA.

I guess, the only thing i could think off that could go wrong in SA for me is the latency. I live in the Philippines and US and UK servers are laggy to me.

But the things you guys are scared of going wrong(optimizations, sciddies, hacking and meta-game) are pretty much will be fixed/changed and is a priority in building the standalone as rocket stated in most interviews and tweets.

If you understood that a computer has a lot more to do when running ArmA 2 compared to CoD or BF3 that have amazing graphics for their time period you would understand that your demand is not valid. While the shooters have their little isolation combat zones as large as electro which of course appear vast due to tricks within the game ( altered view distance, projectiles fly lower than IRL ) you have a whole island which has to be rendered, AI to calculate, a proper day/night time cycle with star constellations and dynamic weather. Yes the game needs optimization but the player can do a lot of that by himself, there are lots of tutorials concerning squeezing the last fps out of the system. Problems are too random to blame only the game for that.
