Use the Geoverse engine, its 100'000 times better. FACT

Recommended Posts

They should be using the Geoverse engine from Euclideon to make this game, being all about authenticity, they could scan in real objects and have the best looking game ever. Plus it doesnt even need a Video card so the game would be marketable to everyone with even a basic laptop. Polygons are terrible and everyone knew that since Hard Drivin came out on the arcade. It's basically the new revolution working with point cloud data and only processes 1 point for every pixel on screen saving all that CPU and GPU for masses of AI and other goodness. Get with the times people.

Looks interesting. They're gonna use an engine that is currently available and that they own, so they can change it to their needs though. But don't worry! Time can't be stopped. DayZ 2 or whatever will be next is going to be more awesome than everything today and so it will go on.

Excuse my ignorance, I`ve never made a game.

To my knowledge, Geoverse seems to be much less of a gaming engine and more of a visual engine. Sure it looks good, but I`m not sure if it would be able to be used as a combat simulator,

Besides, they are using a modified Take On Helicopters engine because of multiple reasons. Chief among them are:

The devolopers working on the SA were also the devolopers of that engine, and know it well.

The engine is close enough to ArmA II that they don`t have to create every update twice for two completely different engines.

Because they already know how the engine works, they can change it at the very deepest levels, and mold it as they wish.

Any way, it is unforunately probably too late to use any other engine.

Yeah i guess it is too late for this game to change course I hope they are at least focusing on making the zombie AI ground breaking. They could sell the game on that alone.

I remember last year when that Euclideon clip came out with the "Unlimited detail engine". It seemed like a breakthrough, until Notch slammed them for being scam artists and i never really heard about them again.

Is it still under development? It did seem too good to be true to be honest, but then again they said that about the Earth being round didnt they?

I think i remember them saying that they wont be publicizing anything until the engine is final (animation, shading, editing, etc)

They said they're going to use a branch off of Take on Helicopters which was a branch from Operation Arrowhead. They using this for the stability and also the fact that the programmers making DayZ are the very same programmers who made that engine so they're quite familiar with it and will probably be able to get things done quick. :)

I have yet to see leaves rustle, doors opening, creatures moving, people talking, fires burning... Until I see proof of that, then I have no faith in Geoverse. I have seen animations of blocky shadows being cast, though, but that's about it.

Geoverse, really?? Vaporware at it's finest. After two years they still don't even have an official website. Outstanding!

And what does it do (read: what will it do, if they actually manage to finish the product)? Is it a framework for game authoring? Is it a physics engine? No, no... it's just a large scene voxel cloud renderer for static environments. It's like inventing a new type of wheel and saying 'hey let's build the best sports car ever with this wheel because it's soo awesumm'... so where do you get the engine from? the kevlar body? the nice plush seats? transmission? exhaust pipes? the sound system? the <iyf whatever here>? what can you actually do with just a wheel? Oh wait, the wheel is not available yet. Maybe in five years. Maybe. But you should definitely use it in the race at the end of this year. Wait, what?

Geoverse has no support or intention to support lots of animations, no inventory system, no server browser, no player database, no anti-hack, no system for 3D sound, no enemy AI, no pre-made weapons, no game networking with player prediction, no health system, no nothing.

But it sure can render static scenes, you just have to find all the nice places all over the world and scan them with a million dollar laser thingy - in multiple passes from every conceivable point and angle to make sure you dont get any blind spots in your voxel cloud.

And transporting all that equipment into russia will be no problem whatsoever. And you can scan all those places and clean up the data and patch it together seamlessly into a nice looking world map, all before the end of this year. And of course it's no problem to write everything else you need, from scratch. Sound, inventory, AI, damage system, weapons, equipment, weather system, networking, and so on. Rocket will code it up in a jiffy!

Yeah, Geoverse seems like the best choice. Thanks for the tip!

Like the others said, the engine they will be using they basically created, so it will be extremely quick and fast with little issues. Plus, Geoverse doesn't seem to be the best choice. At all. What have we seen? One video of a km squared map that has zero animation or even movement, just a bunch of copy-pasta models of trees and statues. Once we see a game that successfully uses it, then I will be all for it. But until then, it's not going to happen.

its probably best them sticking to what they know, if the devs are good at the arma engine, let them use that

its still being developed so I wouldent be surprised if DayZ eventually ends up being on par with Arma 3, which does look very very nice :)

in my opinion as long as its got that realism feel the horror atmosphere will remain

'The standalone's set for release in a month but this random guy on the internet thinks we should scrap all our progress and start again with a new engine. LET'S DO IT!'

Hello there

The fundamental issue is that most folk just dont understand about game developing, engine licencing etc, so when they see an engine that looks/works great they think "why not use this one"?

I for one would like to see the bastard child of Arma2 and BF3 (the one with the best parts, not the gibbering wreck of goo that hisses "kill me" at you). But that's just my dream.

Lastly, no game designer is going to wilfully use a sub par engine for their game, rather one that suits their needs, they have experience with and one they can afford (being some of the reasons)

Let's not lambast OP rather educate him in the error of his ways.

One, they should be using Realtime Immersives' Crytek Milsim engine, but duuh they already have VBS4 which is almost as good.

Two, The Australian Goverment doesn't give out $2Million grants to vaporware, Notch is wrong and overly skeptical.
