  1. If you truly believe that, then you'll understand that we were not restarting the server to deter you in any way. That's not the way we play, period. I was one of the clan members that got headshot in that camp by the third guy you called in. See it from our point of view: In the space of 2 hours, WHILE we were in the process of moving our camp, the following happened: Everyone on the server got teleported to Dagger at the location of our new camp, which was a clear hack/nuke attempt. Dag quickly restarted the server to prevent everyone from getting nuked. Then, after that, we continued the camp move after determining that we restarted the server fast enough to keep everyone from respawning on top of us. That's why one of your guys saw a glimpse of everyone piled on top of each other and then after the restart spawned in at his previous location. THEN, within 30 minutes of the hack attempt, two players (you guys), found our camp, which until then had been untouched for almost TWO WEEKS. You guys killed Flesh Gordon, the first player you encountered. He did NOT Alt+F4, he died, respawned, and stayed in the server. When our other players engaged you, you retreated and then disappeared. That's understandable due to the server's instability, whatever. We all assumed you were going to ghost to behind the camp on another server and/or were part of the hack attempt, but we continued trying to frantically get everything out of camp. THEN, after you guys were unseen for a few minutes, another member and I were loading up the UAZ when someone spawned in and sniped me in the head in the camp. I presume he had JUST spawned in because he shot me literally as we were planning on teamspeak to leave, but I had been fully visible in that part of camp for over 10 minutes moving gear. Then he destroyed the UAZ and killed the other member. I didn't see either of you guys again. I, nor any one of our other members, logged out during combat through that whole saga. We were not attempting to "game" the game, nor were we worried about anything but defending our camp against unknown (and disconnected/presumed ghosting) assailants and then leaving. We thought that there was no way our previously undiscovered camp was found less than an hour after a blantant hack attempt just by coincidence. The final server restart after I was headshot in camp was to update the banlist after the original hacker was determined. As an aside, it's awfully nice of you guys to include a little bit of retribution in your story by going ahead and posting coordinates of the camp for the public to view. In addition, another location of ours was broadcast on Reddit by some individuals who want "retribution" of their own for whatever reason. I'm not accusing you guys of hacking or of anything other than getting extremely lucky right AFTER we got hacked, but we did NOT bring the server down in any attempt to hinder you. So, go ahead and troll one of the server admins who is actually putting in a lot of effort to keep the server free of hackers. We're sorry your camp-hunting fun got ruined by being in very close proximity to a hack attempt (reasonably suspicious from our point of view because of how fast it happened at the time without knowing you were a separate group). After retreating from camp and logging out, do you guys absolutely deny that you were attempting to hop to another server, change your location, and come back in on a different side of camp?

    Wolf Armouries - Store

I know the group still exists and it's still a great idea but I don't think you'll ever be able to fortify a base and having a large organised group is good until you try to hold a point, especially with the amount of banditry and ghosting that exists.

    FPS Guru interview

That doesn't necessarily mean it won't happen. He hasn't said specifically the mechanic he's going to implement. He's working on multiple ways of combating it and we may see a more worthwhile mechanic implemented to prevent this exploit. Truthfully, I think they need to just go ahead and allow server hosts to kick and/or ban for abusing this. At least until the issue is rectified. I simply don't understand what the problem is. Theres hundreds of servers. If I want to ban someone ghosting or disconnecting from combat, when Rocket himself has said this is a known EXPLOIT, why can't I ban someone for doing it? They'll just find a different server anyway within a couple of minutes, and they won't be losing any of their gear and progress.. They just won't be allowed to play on my server, and ruin the time of the gamers playing on the server I provide them. I'm still going to be renting a server regardless, but I really don't want anyone to have a bad experience because of exploits while playing there. Shame.

    Holy aggro in patch

He probably knows that, but I agree. I can't remember the last time I fired my primary at zombies, unless me and my group were booking it out of the NWAF because we had a couple potential snipers ghosting around us, since whenever we took fire, someone ALWAYS logged off the server when we returned fire trying to supress them. So instead of stopping to take out our secondaries giving them an opportunity to take a standing still shot on us, we would just walk backwards and drop them with ARs, and we also had no idea where they would be engaging from if they were ghosting. Think I went through 2 mags for my M4 :D. I used to love my Silenced M9 and I tend to pick one up whenever I find one, but once I run out of magazines for it, I just pick up the next 1911 I see. I love the M9 SD for when I'm areas like Stary of NWAF, when I'm clearing a few zeds out quietly just to get to the loot spawns, but other than those times where I need to be quiet and I can get easy headshots on non-aggro'd zeds, the 1911 is just miles better for the simple fact it's a 1 hit KO on zeds and it's also a 4-6 shot kill on a player if you hit them in the chest, where as the 9mm varieties take upwards of 8 or 9 rounds to take out a player if you hit them anywhere other than the head I find. Being silenced usually doesn't matter in the airfield, because unless I can kill zombies that haven't aggro'd, if there are other players in the area, they'll just see my zombie spawns, or zombies that I've aggro'd and then being quiet doesn't matter anymore(Being quick does though). Oh well. I still like the M9 SD just because it looks boss, and it sounds awesome. Plus the sights aren't too bad either, better than the 191 I say, although nothing beats the G17's sights.

    Neutral zone

The only way to create a safe zone is if there can be no chance of players ghosting in and shooting up the place. Hence the idea for underground bases which appear on one server only - the only way in is through the front door - which of course would be guarded.

    US 85 admins cheating/hacking

We're not the one hacking, there were literally helos fucking everywhere on the server this morning. We reset the server and there are no more helos. Anyone who's been banned has been banned for hacking, ghosting, and d/cing in a firefight. Which when you join, it tells you that you WILL be banned. We have server logs, do we need to throw them in your face? We've been the target of hackers and a few hit squads/man, Nothing we have is hacked in. If we could hack and cheat you'd see us in ghillie/l85/as50/nvg/m9sd driving in cars everywhere. But you don't you see us scattered around with regular weapons and you see us die. And a fuck you to ydi and logi for trying to black mail us, even when they saw there was NO helos.
  7. I like this idea. If you're in a server, and leave it for another server, you can't go BACK to the server you left for X minutes. This doesn't fix server hopping for loot, it doesn't fix alt+f4ing to avoid death, but it does fix server hopping for ghosting.
  8. yea i think its a good idea, and tbh i think this would definitely reduce ghosting. However i dont think it would resolve peeps server hoping for loot, as it only takes a minute or so to run through a building too see if what your after is there. Maybe if there was timer increase on entering servers, if youve entered X many servers in Y amount of time. But personally ghosting is the worst out of these exploits so id like to see that dealt with first.
  9. While your intention is good, it's too imprecise. Here's why it would fail: 1) The direct relation between Time in Server and the "Sever Switch Penalty" (let's just cal it the Timer from this point on) doesn't make sense. If this is a solution to ghosting, wouldn't it be more logical to have an inverse relation? If I'm ghosting through another server to kill you, I'll be spending 3 minutes, tops, in the alternate dimension. If I'm playing in a server for three hours, it's unlikely that I've spent those three hours stalking someone on another server. The function should look more like "y=1/x," so that for smaller times spent in each server there's a greater waiting period to join another server. However, this is irrelevant, because... 2) It would punish people who server-hop for legitimate reasons. Sometimes I'll join a server that says it's daytime, but the owner is an idiot and it's pitch black. *DC, join another server* OH SHIT TANKS EVERYWHERE, THE HAX! *DC, join another server* Cripes, I'm getting desync every 5 seconds. *DC, join another server* Ad infinitum. I've had days where, quite literally, I jump between 7 servers because of various legitimate problems. Heck, sometimes I login, think "Oh crap, I forgot to do something" and log out, only to find my server full when I get back. Good idea, I just think it'd be too problematic to implement.

    Fort Friendly - Social Experiment

It was bound to happen, griefers using server hoping and ghosting to kill everyone. Just let things rest for an hour or so and restart. Tally ho chaps (I think that's encouraging in British...?)
  11. Switching server and ghosting behind them, thats why people got banned
  12. nop i whas on your left side , you dont see me pass because i whas away from my m8s , you think you kill all but there whas 2 more and you got killed , dcs? ghosting ?, called rage quit , you need to be more fair or removed from admin position
  13. imo the alt+f4 guys aren't so much of a problem... you bossed them off the server, you won. obviously they exploited the game to cheat death, but the ghosting on another server and then reconnecting to ambush is a whole different level of cheating. both problems need fixing, but the reconnecting issue has to take priority imo. if you force a logout, can't the exploiting party just alt+f4 then immediately join a new server - bypassing the logout-timer entirely? (okay they'll probably be bugged out in game for the duration, but still able to hop into a new server and setting themselves up for an ambush)
  14. Ok, so this arguement needs a 'finale' to it. I'm one of the 3 guys that was with Alentejano, and I will explain everything step by step. We all started in Cherno and 2 others in Elektro, we made our own ways to somewhere where we could all come together, we got our little group together and started making our way to the Airfield, we stopped at Stary Sobor to get more supplies, when we were getting near to the Airfield, we started walking slowly in the open fields that are next to the Airfield when in a matter of seconds i got shot in the back and instantly died in the open field I quickly communicated with my teammates in TeamSpeak saying that i was shot and killed in a matter of seconds (so far no one is GHOSTING) they all went to prone to look for my ''murderers'' after a few seconds they killed Rush.PT (one of the other 3 in the group), then, there was only Alentejano and MonkPT the only ones who survived the attack, they both went to prone and managed to kill Dekey WHO IMMIDEATLY AFTER GETTING KILLED..KICKED ALENTEJANO BECAUSE HE WAS LOOTING HIS BODY, when Alentejano reloged he KICKED HIM AGAIN and then BANNED MONKPT, RUSH.PT, AND ME for what? Because we killed him and looted his body? Correct me if i'm wrong but one of the rules for having a server is ''YOU CAN ONLY BAN PEOPLE IF THERE'S RACISM OR CHEATING HAPPENING'' none of that happened, NO ONE WENT GHOSTING AND DC/D IN COMBAT, IT WAS FAIR GAME.
  15. He got the server wrong, He meant LU99. As for not being allowed to ban for DC/ghosting; I am aware of the rules and have stated many times that I will accept whatever consequences there may be for trying to remove this behaviour from my server. But that's an entirely different conversation. So to put an end to this thread: Yep I banned this guy and his 3 friends for DCing in combat and ghosting. I would do it again too. It wasn't so you couldn't get my stuff, I only had shite anyway.
  16. If I am not mistaken, you are not allowed to ban for that. Either way...I thought you weren't the admin of that server? I am on Dekey's side in that he should not have to prove that he is not the admin of a specific server. How would he? He states he is not...that should be the end of the discussion in that regard. I don't take his side on kicking/banning for DC/Ghosting unless that is now allowed as a kick/ban offense.

    Instances

The Arma2 engine was never designed to allow instancing afaik, its a pretty old game. I don't agree with instances but i do agree with randomly spawning underground bunkers (if at all possible) More incentive to explore, risky to go into because of zombies and only one way out. Standard military gear drops would already do the trick. This idea shouldnt be put in with the current ability to server hop at will and people disconnecting or ghosting at a whim. Not to mention the current zombie state with them wall clipping and phase shifting in confined spaces. Also firing a gun in an enclosed space like a bunker, zombie dinner anyone? Better find a silence weapon before going down.

    Elysium | Department of Defense

I remember when the Irish or Scottish fellow was on the TS on one particular day. To clear things up this is the account that I recall. Basically, Tod was joking around with him and I at the time assumed he was new (like me) and wasn't accustomed to the joking and friendly poking that goes on in the clan. He didn't laugh back or respond with disdain. He just didn't seem to like the joking around and kind of muttered in response. We all laugh at each other and give each other crap for the mistakes we've made. Some of us can't drive for shit for example and go through vehicles like I go through fruit rollups (those damn things are amazing). At times I think clan members humor is a bit retarded, but I just don't laugh and say nothing. Other times I think these guys are hilarious. Regardless, we have fun. We laugh. We joke. We goof off. We do Ops as friends and mess around. Other times we go into Ops seriously and maintain mic silence. We're here to have fun like everyone else. Honestly, I think the guy from what I can tell just took Sean Connery jokes too seriously. After that I don't recall him ever playing with us or being on the TS. That I can remember. People shouldn't get pissed off because of one joke that may or may not have been funny. As for members, a lot of us work pretty hard in this game. I for one spend 12 hours a day looting helicopters, scowering the wilderness for vehicles and camps. Along with Salgor as we lead Charlie Squad (Supply). It's what we enjoy doing in the game. Others have squads for combat (sniper squads, assault squads, etc). Some of us take things more seriously, others love to joke around and goof off. Everyone is different. But regardless, there are no douche bags in this clan, that I'm aware of. There will always be people that steal stuff, spies and what not and people that jack others stuff. If they get caught, they'll be removed. The clan doesn't screw around when it comes to being a douche bag: stealing, ghosting, combat logging, griefing, etc.
  20. I figured I'd throw in my own little thought since everyone loves to throw the "Rules" around all the time on what you can and can't do. (While also digging this mod deeper and deeper into its grave) Taken from http://dayzmod.com/f...ns-are-abuseing Now I will tell you why, in very many ways - This arguement is the stupidest thing you can throw out there. As you can see, there are many rules that are being "Laid down" - DCing not being one of them. Because of this, everyone seems to believe it's within their right to do so. Now let me go over the list of things that aren't on this list along with ghosting/battle disconnecting - I mean, it's not on the list so it must be fine right? Spawning Gear, Vehicles, Weaponry. Using ESP/Aimbots. Teleporting with .50 cals. Nuking Elektro/Cherno. Spawning Goats with .50 cals. Hacking a server and giving yourself server administrator powers. + Anything else that isn't on the list. Now that that little bit is done, let's go over the rules that are inplace and pick apart their meaning like everyone else does to validate their ability to battle-disconnect without punishment. BEWARE - The same restrictions apply to Non-Dev run servers! - IT MAY NEVER BE PASSWORDED - Forgot to add the "Except when updating/restarting for ping related issues" - NO OTHER KEYS OR MODS. NONE. PERIOD. - NO KICKING TO MAKE ROOM FOR 'FRIENDS' OR CLANMATES - Fair and is rarely being abused (And before you say everyone does it, realize that there are thousands of servers. - NO LOCKING THE SERVER - Again, forgot to add the "Except when Updating/restarting to resolve ping issues." - NO EDITING DAYZ/MISSION FILES - IT'S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO UPDATE YOUR SERVER TO THE LATEST VERSION OF DAYZ -BATTLEYE MUST BE ENABLED - Love how this was added moment after the first report yet all the abusing/cheating players get one post three days down the road. - Minimum slot count of 40 (30 for countries where bandwidth is expensive i.e. developing countries) - Their are only two reasons why you, as a server owner, should ban a player on your server. Those two reasons are: Malicious talk, and racism. You may not ban a user for stealing your loot, killing you, spying on you, etc. - So Malicious ACTS don't count? So aslong as I don't type something racist/harrass anyone with text, I'm free to do it however I want - Just along as I don't type? - You may only kick for disruptive behavior (such as continued VOIP over side channel). But you may not kick due to race or language or because the person does something you do not like. - Battle Disconnecting is disruptive behavior, but people also go "Not on the rules so it doesn't count" And if not, IE; Now then, what I would like to see out of this thread? Not what I'm going to recieve I guarentee - But what I would like is a definitive response from anyone with the development team on what is freegame on cheating? What can we do to cheat but not be banned like is going on now? How much can we get away with because "It's not in the rules"? Because it seems like alot of people seem to have mixed emotions on the matter, why not clear it up here and now? Now that your mod is getting views, is the time to get professional and not leave these loop-holes in your rules - Especially if you're blacklisting people who pay to NOT have people go through your loop-holes.

US 295 being shut down for good.

Surely a big part of what's going on is partly because with the alpha and the OA beta changing versions so often, and with so many servers being taken offline or coming online, or just being reorganised and renamed, it's impossible as a player or small group to stick to one server or even group of servers. Besides which, the dog-eat-dog mentality of this game means that a s communities develop, there's always going to be outsiders. This is exacerbated by the fact that's DayZ, perhaps uniquely, has no story and no endgame. There are no common goals, and there's no way to really win. It's all about the metagaming, the crafty things people can do with ghosting and hopping, and it spills into the forums here. You should probably have realised this when you rented a server, OP. I can't speak as to the treatment from the devs, but as you noted, they get an allowance for the fact that this game has absolutely exploded and they're struggling to cope. Give them a break, and wake up. Server admin are to be thanked, but having been one myself in various FPS titles, as you may have been yourself, you quickly come to realise it's a relatively thankless job. You do it because it benefits the community you're part of, and deal with pub players as a necessary part of the game you enjoy. But DayZ imposes other limitations, whether from the model the devs have in mind and the restrictions on kicking and admin behaviours, or simply due to the aforementioned point to do with the game itself and the fragmented community it's engendered.

How do I get a nvg

I can see server hoping for death dodging or ghosting, that crap is just lame. But if I do my normal route of stary, then south barracks then north barracks, then switch servers and reverse I wonder if thats still considered exploiting. Had a guy when I was in south with 2 friends, hopped in killed 1 then hopped out. Then again a minute later and got the other friend, the 3rd time he came for me I was waiting for him and I put 4 5.56 rounds into him and he never came back. I hope he just logged in unconsious and bled to death whichever server he ended up in.
  23. This is however also true, we need to be able query server time through the ingame browser. Often a servers timezone in description actually says nothing about ingame time, they change it too often. A related issue to this is the propensity of people to only play on day servers. I do it myself of course, because I know that chances are at least half of that low pop on the night server has NVG's. IMO NVG's should just not be ingame. They might be too common due to duping though, because I've never seen a single pair and I've done my fair share of looting military buildings. But I digress. Ghosting, real douchebag move, needs a fix along with the logoffski when shot.
  24. imo this is the biggest issue in the game... cross server meta-gaming. it's cheating, plain and simple. the best solution i can think of would be to put your character into a 'pacifist mode' for ~2 minutes after logging in. the pacifist mode would basically disable your weapons for the duration. if you're a legit player, you're also going to be effected - but 99% of the time you won't need to use weapons in that time period. you have your camp and vehicles on your home server as mass storage... your suggestion means you could farm on other servers and just server bounce to instantly 'bank' your loot. that's probably even more detrimental to the game than 'ghosting'.
  25. So here is your solution applied to a non-cheating player: myself. -Login to my home server, where me and several friends store our important gear in our tents. -Get kicked due to high ping. -Realize I left Six Launcher open, which auto refreshes the server list every 30 seconds and causes my ping to skyrocket. -Launch my home server again, this time closing Six Launcher before getting in. -Can't log in for 30 minutes. Here's another situation: -Playing with friends -Find a bush to hide in and disconnect to the lobby so I can take a piss. -Come back 1 minute later. -Can't log in for 30 minutes. The time you have put (30 minutes) is simply too long. There are exponentially more legitimate disconnects (disconnecting so you can go afk for a few minutes or even seconds, etc) than there are disconnects for illegitimate (cheating) reasons. This solution would frustrate legitimate players far more often than actually stopping cheaters. I think that a simple disconnect timer would be quite sufficient (as long as they could somehow fix the duplication bug). For example, in your scenario where the people logged out to flank you, they would have had to stand still for anywhere between 20-30 seconds before they left the server, giving you plenty of time to realize what they were doing. Same with the scout who was providing information on your whereabouts. The disconnect timer would not only warn you as to their intentions, but also give you the chance to attack them before they could finish disconnecting. Of course, the people disconnecting would be able to interrupt the timer at any time to defend themselves, but you would have successfully prevented ghosting. Now, there are probably other solutions to this, and some of them will even be BETTER solutions, but this one would be a pretty simple one to implement, and would probably cut down on the number of ghosting incidents. A solution I favor though is this one: Have your character data stored in the hive (what you are wearing, what you are carrying, etc), but have your character's LOCATION saved on a per server basis. This would stop ghosting entirely. If you logged out of server A, and logged into server B, your character would be in a different spot, and moving your character on server B would not affect where your character is on server A.
