  1. Hi there! I just came up with this idea after thinking of planes and hangars. What if you could attach a steel wire from your car to pull other vehicles that is damaged/out of fuel to a more resourceful town/safe haven. This would be a great addition to the standalone and would make a fun team play thing. In addition you could also find towing trucks. The towing itself would result in a slower and more fuel consuming vehicle. Also, if you're "that kind of guy", you could just hook a passed out/dead survivor to your car and drag them around lynch mob style. What do you guys think?

    UK101 Admin abuse

If I was an admin, and the two most important vehicles on the server disappear from two different camps on the same day, i would be suspicious too. And if I see then, that both vehicles are stacked together off map, i would probably also assume that this was done by scripters. Two things have to be done know. 1. Revert the database to a version that has not been contaminated by script-kiddies yet. 2. Identify the intruders and ban. The admins did not revert the database just for their own purpose. It's the reason people play on private hives. Unfortunately there are in fact false positives. This seems to have been the case. I don't actually play together with those two big clans on the server. But once there was a coincidence, i met the "admin-clan" and they were very friendly to me and my clanmate. They took us on a heli ride. They were actually searching for the second heli. They did not abuse their power by checking the position in the db/log. I think this is a bad coincidence, and a rant post. But there is no admin abuse on this server, at least I didn't come across this yet.
  3. DayZ is about creating stories, how you survive, playing with your group, making it on your own, meeting people and living through it. One thing that comes to mind is that each one of us has unique experience and skills, in real life, that would be useful to a group. Currently in DayZ this added 'life' isn't there. Lets just think of some examples before we tackle what this may mean....i apologise for the potential coming wall of text. 1). Your in a group heading north. You bump into another group, without warning a fire fight erupts. Your team survive...but take casualties. One has a bullet lodged in his thigh. You can't get it out. His artery was hit. You don't have long...but a bandage isnt going to fix this. The artery needs fixing and that bullet must come out, or he will die soon or from septicemia or infection later. You heard of a group with a vet...not ideal but you need his skills now. You load your friend on a car and the search is on. Or maybe the other group had a doctor and you spared him. Or you know of a group selling medical help. Or you have a doctor at your camp but his is off with another team somewhere. You find another group with a doctor but they arent willing to help....what do you do? Kidnap them? Hold them up? Trade with them? Plead? Or maybe there is nothing that can be done....put him down now. 2). Your group finds a helo. Its a bit banged up but nothing a repair can't fix. Unfortunately your group doesnt have anyone with a clue about fixing a helicoptor engine. Where do we find someone who does? Maybe a new spawn on the coast has some skills? Who could we find and trade for? Here are just two quick examples of events that could affect and trigger different player interactions, the world and the stories we create. Makes the sandbox more sandbox and interesting. The obvious one is the medical implications and medical system required for more reaslistic results from fire fights. The big issue here is consequences. Currently i get shot. I bandage and eat some cow. Magically fine. If i get shot bad...bloodbag. In reality: Shock (blankets, drugs, heat to fix) Organ damage (major surgery) Arteries (surgery) Internal Bleeding (surgery, triage, tornequet) Other broken bones (Splints, drugs) Infection (Drugs, varying degrees of infection and reoccurring) Permanent disability (limp, loss of limb) The consquences mean you enter combat with huge risks. At the moment a large number of people play Kill On-Sight. In reality you would consider the following things (the order you think them in is probably a measure of the player you are) before pulling the trigger: 1). Are they a threat to you. 2). Are they a hindrance to you. 3). Are they useful to you? 4). Could they help you? 5). Could you help them? 6). What gear might they have? So what does this mean. I think players should have some Profession when they spawn - which is what they did in real life before Day ZERO. This profession gives a couple of skills. You profession is %age chance based on the real % number of that profession in society. That means doctors will be relatively rare. Some examples of professions would be (but there will be many, many more): Engineer (more efficient at building structures) Mechanic (more efficient at vehicle repair) Medic (more efficient at triage) Surgeon (more efficient at other life saving things – see medical) Doctor (better at diagnosing illness and treating them). Electrician (more efficient at building certain structures and repairing gadgets) Labourer (more efficient at building certain structures) Machinist (more efficient at making parts and repairing mechanical items) Chemist (more efficient at making certain chemicals and explosives – lets face it at some point we really will have to start making our own ammunition). Hunter Vet My gut feel is don't stop anyone doing anything. Just someone trying to fix a helicoptor may not be very successful, use lots of materials up and do a poor and quickly broken repair. Also there is a chance of failure, where the materials are used up for no gain, and even a chance you make it worse. But skills need to valued, traded for, taken, defended etc. I also feel strongly that these types of skills are none-combat only. Target them at the medical, survival, construction and crafting portions of the game. Could you learn them? Not sure. If the apocolypse did arrive lets face it - some skills we need to rebuild society would be lost. We could regain them through books. Could you find certin books to learn or improve you skill? Obviously any improvement/learning is lost on death...no negotiation on that. Some other thoughts Gear – first off I think gear needs to wear out over time or get damaged/destroyed to prevent players becoming too much of an accumulator of rarer items. There are some simple mechanisms that can deal with this. If you shoot someone their gear will take some damage and the quantity of gear destroyed/damaged should depend on how you killed them. For example a .50 cal round will crack an engine block, therefore when used in an anti-personnel role – it’s a one shot kill but also most of that targets gear is wrecked (say a simple percentage – 80% of each piece of gear being unusable). The damage done should be related to the damage reach round does on a sliding scale and how many times you ‘plug’ them. If you keep shooting their cold dead bodies then don’t expect to find much still in a working condition. A player who dies in a helicopter crash or an explosion (rocket launcher/vehicle crash) is unlikely to have useable, recoverable gear. This would make player farming less of reliable source of gear. Gear will probably wear out over time as well, especially as I haven’t cleaned my rifle since I found it (yes…I’m slacking I know). Most rifles need a lot of TLC to keep them working and suffer barrel wear and fouling. In DayZ I would expect most of us thrown into our situation haven’t got a clue about how to clean them or maintain them properly (so they will wear out pretty quickly or at least start suffering stoppages), we are just picking them up and using them. Obviously certain skills/equipment will let you repair/maintain gear to stop/reduce these effects. Weapon stoppages when they occur can be easily cleared using the mouse wheel action menu – but takes time. So if you weapon starts wearing out – pick your encounters carefully. You don’t want a hoard of zombies to fight off with a gun that is starting to jam. Maybe we could find cleaning kits that extend the life of a weapon (but does not reset it to factory fresh). Vehicles – are themselves resources, I think the way it works now is pretty good, although they are a bit fragile. I like the idea of being able to craft upgrades/bolt on armour (zombie plow, sheet metal armour, spot lights (moveable), armoured fuel tank, reinforced hull etc) or different fuel/power sources for them. You should also be able to weld on or bolt on some fixed weapons (take a door gun off a helo crash for example)…lets face it you see this in lots of real life militias…so it would happen. Fuel – maybe this is split down as far as diesel, petrol, avgas?? Needs different separate containers (and has different storage tanks) to avoid contamination. I think there are standard colours for containers (the military ones have a colour coded cap/collar). Again each tank has a large but maybe limited supply of fuel. We may also have to scavenge from the tanks of other vehicles that are wrecked. IT might be a long time until we run out….but those tanks further afield would need to be visited and we may have to finally, somehow either give up vehicles or convert them (In the 1920s and 70s people did this themselves and came up with steam/wood fired vehicles – time to rebuild and get inventive people). Base Construction Obviously Rocket has stated that underground base construction is what he is planning to do. I also loved the Xcom series and something akin to this would be awesome. Bases for clans/groups need to be hidden but once found could be fought over, stormed, defended, abandoned. There may even be some existing ones to find, or neutral ones to trade at etc. Some of the elements that spring to mind are: Barracks/Sleeping Areas Generator rooms (once you find one) Showers/Bathing/WC (gonna need plumbing and piping) Storage Rooms Armoury Canteens/Rec-rooms Entrance structures/disguised/false ones/traps (doors lockable? Pickable? Cutable? Blowable?) Pill boxes/Scout holes/Defence Points/Choke Points/Traps/Periscopes etc. Labs Workshops (for lathes/saws etc if you can move them) Radio Comms rooms (needs ariels? How do you hide them, can you pull them down? Retract them?) Operation Rooms Hospitals/Surgery Vehicle Garage (entry by hidden lifting door – I would expect the tech for lifts is beyond us (you could get the hydraulic rams off excavators, piping and parts…might need several?) Tree walkways? (maybe too hard) Each of these require time, labour and resources to construct, requiring different skills and resources. Of course group bases will be larger scale than lone-wolves who might scrape out a small hide-out, but those are the benefits of grouping. Bases should be hidden and disguised so you accidentally come across one or have to track groups back to them – obviously groups with vehicles may be easier to track (again risk reward or maybe even a separate garage base) I apologise for the huge post. Thanks for reading.

    UK101 Admin abuse

It was explained time and again, A new group were given access to the server when both heli's went missing. It was assumed this group were up to no good. When they both went missing we assumed it had been an attack. With this in mind we decided to relocate the out of bounds back to where they were moved from because we thought it wasn't legit and seemed far too suspicious to us. We were then attacked by Walter and yourself who wouldn't listen to reason. We were called hackers cheaters you name it, all because we tried to do the best thing for the server users. It wasn't out of plain old selfishness or abuse, it was to get the server back to where it was as we thought before we felt we had been hacked. You were explained this time and again but still refused to listen to us and still went on and on and on calling us cheaters. I have never abused my ability to manipulate the server in our favour or anyone elses, and I'm sure the other regular players whom also tried to explain this to you and who also had had enough of your abuse to the admins (Only one of the heli's was in admin hands!) will come here and also tell you that you were wrong in the way you acted and that we as admins have every right to follow up complaints from others and there own members if anything is untoward. Which is exactly as we did. You say it is abuse, we say it is necessary action to maintain a server that everyone is happy with. Why should admins or other regular players have something taken by a hacker then not have it given back? Welcome to the world of private hives, where admins have had enough of vehicles being teleported off map (Where we found one) another reason we thought it was an attack and was unfair play on your behalf. You even admit what you did was unfair, yet come here to claim unfairness, smacks of double standards, you and walter are now removed from the whitelist, for what? Admins trying to correct what they thought was an attack? Thanks for nothing, just so you know, if it's possible you'll be banned from all our servers from now on. By the way, your post was moved because private hives aren't an issue for dayz staff, suck it up and move on cry face. Edit : You really have no idea how or what a server looks like, claiming scripts is beyond ludicrous. It is database editing, far from scripting or hacking. You may or not also know that off map vehicle dropping is not allowed on Rockets servers also, it has been scripted to have these respawn if it is done, some months ago this was added I might add, so when I say there are no rules, clearly the dayz rules apply, or does it suit you to grab small parts of information and leave out others?

    Standalone and Helicopters.

Remembering the order they need to be pressed; waiting the correct amount of time between presses; and doing all of this while someone is sniping at the chopper you just spent 3 hours repairing? That at least takes a bit of skill. @Terrorviktor & @Michaelvoodoo25 - Moving from helis to the argument on overall difficulty, I think you need to keep in mind that the mod needs to remain at least remotely accessible to the regular gamer. Arma was never very popular because the learning curve to join the multiplayer crowd was very high. Day Z was successful because anyone can play it. It was a great bridge between the overly simplistic CoD crowd and the overly complex Arma crowd. The game you two are driving towards would be an overly complicated environment requiring teamwork in all phases, too similiar to regular Arma MP. That would drive away a great portion of the Day Z player base such as myself who even after 175 hours still enjoy just logging in with a new character, collecting loot, looking for vehicles, and avoiding snipers. I have no problem making some things more difficult. I love the changes on Namalsk with greater temperature effects, fewer food and animal spawns, etc. But I also enjoy Namalsk because the other day I found a chopper at the airfield, repaired and fueled it using supplies I was collecting with a tractor I had repaired, and spent 30 minutes just flying it around and giving a few folks a lift, finally getting to show off the basic skills I'd gained in the armory. I eventually left it with the last guy I gave a ride to and his buddy, one of whom said he was just an amateur pilot like me but could at least get around. It was one of the more enjoyable experiences I've had, and given all the stories this mod has given me, that is really saying something.
  6. Same i lost interest in DayZ a while ago, have been playing wasteland since, now a few new maps have come out im playing those now. The new maps coming out the way they do i hope rocket takes this in to consideration and allows custom maps on the standalone. If not then i hope he will release a new map every month or even 2 months to keep the standalone alive! i know the game is sandbox but i feel some kinda of missions would be good to give you something to do, After you get guns food vehicles ect... all you can do is kill people or become a taxi service for fresh spawns, So maybe take the missions from wasteland and use them with heli crash sites ect... so they spawn in different places each time a mission comes up giving everyone a chance to grab some decent loot.
  7. Hey everyone, A group of friends and I rented out a server about 10 days ago and weve been trying to find an helicopter on it to no avail. Been to every known spawn point on the map but havent found it at all. The server was running 1.7.2.3 when we got it, so we updated it to 1.7.2.6, then to 1.7.3 after it came out. Crashsites have also been scarce, they showed up after we switched to 2.6, but we havent seen any since the update to 1.7.3. We used to have a private server where you could look up spawned vehicles repair levels, but you cant do that on a normal server. Any ideas on whats happening? Thanks!

    Vehicles and Tents in 1.7.3

Are there space limits on vehicles that I'm not seeing? I found my first UAZ today, and I loaded it up and noticed that, some gear, after putting it in the UAZ, made other stuff disappear? I hope my stuff's still there when I get back... :( I also unloaded a tent, put all the stuff I had in the tent into my UAZ, then I went back to pack up the Tent, which packed up, but then I couldn't pick it up. It was right in front of me. I saw the bag of the tent there, but no moving to-and-fro, exiting and going back in, etc. let me be able to select it to pick it up... :( This was a terrible update I think... a lot of people don't like it. Starting with NVG, Range Finders, GPS and Weapons... a MK48 Mod 0? Really??? That just takes the fun out of starting up. Just as I feared... my UAZ is gone and so is all the stuff in it... luckily I kept some food and ammo on me.

    Vehicles and Tents in 1.7.3

My tents are keeping their gear, but 2 of our 3 vehicles are deleting the gear. Strangely enough, this is still on 1.7.2.6, but only started happening after 1.7.3 was introduced.
  10. DrunkPunk

    Underrated Weapons

M16 acog for one, that gun is amazing at pin point accuracy over mid ranges. AKM is perfect for shooting vehicles, I find the gun controls well enough to shoot players out and not mess up the vehicle itself. When it comes to firing on any vehicle other than a chopper, I'll take an AKM over anything.

    Operation Dogfight -- Private Servers

U are both un-banned, btw uzi sd ammo = hacked in btw Don't accept gifts from strangers :P For future reference.. Admins will either u to quit out & wait 5 mins & jump back into server with all your stuff. Or will restart server if getting tents / vehicles back Yep hackers are pain in the arse, thats why u might notice pyBEscanner tool which is banning people it catches, less waiting for an admin to do it... Got some more improvements to do over the weekend, so it scans more log files edit:- Also server might be down for abit later tonight for a server update to new lingor 1.1 & panthera 1.6 maps
  12. Drumavatic

SE 1 Private Servers - Custom

A very well updated and in all ways upheld server. NIce community, fast responses to problems, and most of all a balanced server with a decent amount of vehicles and heli crashes!
  13. The admins here are legit. I cannot prove this, but i guess the one thing i can say is that if we were abusing our admin powers, i wouldnt be walking so damn much! Also i wouldnt have been kidnapped and held at gunpoint for 30 minutes last night lol. Admins regularly check for hacked weapons and spawned vehicles. We try to ensure that everyone has a good time. Try out the server Murphy, most of the playerbase are not on until about 2 or 3 pm EST. Should give you time to get geared up!
  14. Bifftastic

    rMod

I run Rmod on my server, however i pretty much just use it to add new buildings/vehicles(nothing with any guns that would make it unfair to others)
  15. Chase9548

    rMod

if you guys havnt played on an rmod sever yet than ur missing out, its by far the most fun ive has playing dayz in my past 5 or so months playing it. for those who dont know rMod is a mod for servers that puts basically every gun in arma into dayz, and there are alot of new vehicles. Looking for mature group/clan

Hi, look no further,.... you sound exactly like the sort of player we are looking for within our community. You are welcome to check us out at The BSB Network. First and foremost we're an open social gaming community that is dedicated to fair and fun gaming. We have over 400 registered Day Z players ranging from casual non-committed players that just want to play with trustworthy players now and again, right upto our dedicated and more committed Fire Team members. Our players are usually organised into groups using our Teamspeak Server to communicate and coordinate their scavenges and raids. These teams have several bases, vehicles, camps and play across several of our own home servers - including a lot of activity on Day Z Redux! The community is mostly adult gamers over the age of 20 (well over in most cases!) but there are no age, time or skill requirements - all we ask is you play fair and have a bit of common sense about you! Our members are based all over the world and are on at all times of the day and night, but all speak English and most are based in the UK and Mainland Europe with some in the US too. We've been gaming as a community since 2002, so we're not some ad-hoc fly by night clan that's been quickly set up and will be gone in the blink of an eye! There is no obligation to join our clan or any of our affiliated clans/groups to take part in our sessions though, everyone is free to urn up and get involved. If you're interested the first step is to basically check out or website @ www.bsbnetwork.com and try to hop on our Teamspeak 3 server and say "hi!" ( have a peep at it now to see who's online playing right now!) 212.187.246.58:9140 Hope to catch you in-game soon!
  17. Gooober

A little tip if you're newbie.

Find a weapon and kill... Only thing u can do..... Collecting anything is a complete waste of time..... Vehicles dont save well.. Tents dont save well... Hackers can do whatever they wish to u.... So kill. kill. Kill.......
  18. Gooober

    Vehicles and Tents in 1.7.3

We still have the disappear of tents and vehicles glitch, but a restart and they reappear.. We have had problem with vehicles deleting any inventory after updating to 1.7.3. We have moved our inventory out of vehicles to avoid losing anymore......
  19. enforcer1975

    Heli's and their ammo

There are ammo boxes for vehicles...but i hope they remove armed vehicles and add unarmed ones instead.

DayZ - Creating Stories, plus a few other bits

Quite! Anyway... I'll admit right now I didn't read the entire opening post. However to first main points on player skills etc. 1) There already a limited version of this scenario in the game, right now. If you get your leg broken, and neither you, or your aggressor has morphine to fix yourself up, you have exactly the situation you are talking about, but with none of the extra effort to be implemented. Granted, morphine is (fairly) easy to get once you know where/how, so an added layer of complexity might be interesting. But it might also screw people a bit too often. I think your example of needing a medical trained member, a full outfit of proper medical supplies, and to first of all SURVIVE the gunfight in the first place, and then long enough to gather said supplies, could lead to lots of death. I generally like the realism angle, but perhaps there is a limit. (It would be interesting to see how far it can pushed, mind!) and 2) I can never decide about skills. If they're random at player spawn (eg. "You spawned as: The Mechanic! Get bonuses to vehicles!" or "The Medic: Get bonuses to healing" or "The Tramp! Get bonuses to finding food") then the moment you get a group together who find a chopper but don't have a pilot or someone to repair it, someone will suicide and keep doing so, until they get a pilot. (Or whatever they need at the time) If player skills are chosen before spawn, then a group would just make sure they have an even distribution of the "right" skills. The only way I think skills could/should work in this game (if at all) is a passive - subtle - increase. Or an idea I did like was the idea of manuals/books. Having a copy of Helicopter Weekly lets you fly that chopper right away! Find a copy of Top Gear magazine? Get better at fixing cars, making one line quips, and wearing jeans!
  21. I've had this issue for a good week or two now and It's making my efforts to play DayZ poor at best. When I connect to a server everything goes smoothly as you'd expect, but 1-5 minutes into the game I receive this message "You have been kicked from the server" and no further details. After getting a friend on the same server he confirmed he saw this message "Signature check timed out" when I disconnected. What have I done already? I un-installed ALL Arma 2 content from the PC including registry following a guide this forum linked me to. Then using another guide performed a full install from scratch, then using DayZ Commander installed DayZ and Patched to latest beta files. I've reinstalled Battleye multiple times and confirm all files are up-to-date. I tried copying the checkfilelist from Arma 2 to Arma 2 OA folders. I performed the cache check in steam and ran each game in succession whilst running as admin. I've disabled all firewall software and created a DMZ on my BT Home Hub & opened the Arma 2 Ports. Note: My Connection is reliable, Both Pingtest.net and Speedtest.net gives my connection an A grade. Additional Information I've tried dozens upon dozens of servers and only two I've found work at all, but they both fail to save my gear, return me to spawns each login, deny me access to vehicles, and occasionally even doors and loot. Here are their addresses: 5.63.147.44:2512 173.193.48.173:2532 Hopefully something about these two servers can shed light as to why I can stay connected whilst I can't on others.

    Are Choppers needed in DayZ?

what advantages do they provide? What is the obsession with vehicles? People seem to obsess about vehicles and the need to go to some specific place. They really dont matter that much but they should be kept in the game. You are also suggessting that choppers should only be in the game if they can be perfectly hidden. Well its not like a heuy is a pack of fuckin peanuts now is it? The mod is fine as it is especially with the addition of the civilian chopper. lawl@u for claiming choppers give players unfair advantages; they are easy to spot and easy to shoot down. nuff said
  23. Hello, ive been playing for a few months now, Ive had almost all weapons and vehicles. Doing diffrent things like stalking, stealing, killed bandits, murdered a few for whatever reason... Usally involves a vehicle :) I dont think this game needs very much content, however i think its too easy to aquire everything you need. Now that i did.. Im all out of ideas to entertain myself.. What do you like to do in DayZ?
