Me and Vilayers misadventures

I've had a Vilayer server for 2 months and what can I say, it's been emotional....if frustration is an emotion. Once the server was up and running it was very good, the trouble comes from the constant updates that appear from nowhere with no warning! You just get things setup the way you like them and BOOM! "This update fixes vehicles joined together when they spawn" But we've never had that problem (installs update anyway)... ahhh, now we do! Did you like setting the time on your server? Well FU! we're taking that away for no good reason! Every fix just seems to generate another problem for someone somewhere else. It's a computer version of the old lady who swallowed a fly! I'll give you an example. Yesterday there was an update to 4.2 (fixes this, updates that) YOU MUST UNINSTALL YOUR MOD BEFORE RUNNING THIS UPDATE! Well ok, except once you've uninstalled the mod, the message for the update is... UNABLE TO UPDATE AT THIS TIME! (this continued all day) Fine, I'll just reinstall my mod and wait til they sort it.... YOU CANNOT INSTALL ANY MODS UNTIL YOU HAVE UPDATED TO 4.2. No one on TS to help or give advise no answer to the ticket.... ARRRGGGHHH! TODAY.... new update (to be fair, they'd fixed the server over night.... except there was something stopping us from joining) ANOTHER update to 4.5 along with an unfathomable email telling us about the 4.2 update and how we should DL some files from them and then overwrite the files on our client Arma! Not going to happen Vilayer!! -
"Prepare2die" has been somewhat miraculously shooting dead in one shot people in moving vehicles with one shot and teleporting around the maps on an ATV. He approached me, told me to hop on the back of his ATV then teleported (into the sea, and then) the NW Airfield where I asked him what the hell happened and he shot me.

I recently upgraded my server to 1.7.3 and we have noticed a few bugs in the server which are rather evil. Firstly, some vehicles tend to not save or wipe their gear occasionally, but not all the time. We loaded up a hilux 2 days ago with a load of gear and restarted the server. After the first restart the gear was there but after the second, it was gone. This has also happened with 1 tent once, but it hasn't happened since. With the tent not saving, we deployed 2 at the same time and put gear in both, then saved them both at the same time but only 1 kept the gear so something random is happening... Another thing i have noticed with 1.7.3 is when you crash a heli Battleye kicks you for a script restriction (#36 "[this] spawn BIS_Effects_AirDestruction"), this has actually saved my life twice so far since the game doesn't tell the hive you have died (or even that the heli has exploded, just that it has damage) Last night was the strangest of all though. The previous nights the vehicles have always saved their position even if they hadn't saved the gear, but after a server restart this morning their positions had reset. This includes a heli that i had crashed into the airfield, it had respawned back at camp with the damage done in the crash but all its gear intact. Is the hive just ignoring my server occasionally or are these known bugs?

From my testing with vehicles yesterday they still aren't working properly. They spawn now, however all the vehicles in my server spawned fully repaired despite my settings in dayztools saying to spawn them damaged. These vehicles also magically repaired themselves when I got out and refuelled. As for my support ticket about my server being down, it still hasn't even received a response yet. And I'm sure when it eventually does the support teams response will be of absolutely no use. The server came back online yesterday (after 30hours+ of complete inaccessible downtime). Knowing if your servers are up or down is incredibly basic for any system admin, failing to communicate these problems to customers is inexcusable. -

Your question is confusing, but I think I know what you seek. Presuming you mean vehicles on servers, I'd assume it to mean that vehicles that were once spawnable (yet not legal), have now been made legal into the game. I know there's been some new additions, and I'm really excited about this. :D -

May I just recommend that you guys try out Haven Australia? Fully customized private hive server, possibly the best in the whole mod, definitely the best I've played. Custom vehicles, buildings, soon to be custom skins.. Still going under constant updating but it's a really great server! As with all properly secure servers it has whitelist protection and a password. Head to their homepage to register! Hope to see you there! :) -

Still having issues with kill messages not displaying with every murder,server has been restarted a few times since the update but murders are inconsistently showing as death messages or "was killed" even though we know it was a definite kill. Real Life Cash for killing - Bounties?

I think it could work, but it'll need some serious tweaking. Obviously some additional mods etc. will be called for, but I'm feeling like some clever players will be able to buy in for $10 and walk away with a bajillion of these mooks' dollars by farming zombies in the most efficient possible way, using a campfire and a hallway and two hatchets, or by cloistering the Outlaw until he's worth eighty bucks, then offing him. I say run it like a poker tournament, where everyone pays a flat buy-in price and the payouts come from that. Have between ten and fifty players in a tourney. Everyone gets a set number of lives, and there's a time limit on the whole affair. At the end, the money's distributed based on how it went. Here's an off-the-cuff breakdown: Buy-In: $5.00 Lives: 5 Time Limit: 3 Hours Payouts are simple. Of each $5 paid in: $1.00 (20%) zombie kills $1.00 (20%) survivor kills $1.00 (20%) bandit kills $1.00 (20%) hero kills $0.15 (3%) zombie kills record $0.15 (3%) survivor kill record $0.15 (3%) bandit kill record $0.15 (3%) hero kill record $0.10 (2%) longest life $0.10 (2%) highest kill/death ratio $0.20 (4%) goes to the server admin for the "rake" to cover server fees, weird porn, etc. Also, they get any scraps left over from rounding. The individual pots are paid out in shares for kill tallies, and lump sums for the distinctions. So, let's say you've got 20 dudes in the game. That's $100 total in the pot. At the end, when the scores are all counted up, let's say there are 1000 total zombie kills by all players (trying to keep my math simple). You've got twenty bucks in the zombie kill pot, so each player gets two cents per zombie whacked. If ten bandits get killed, that's two dollars a head. If only one guy gets a hero skin, then the lucky bastard who brings him down pockets the whole $20. If, for any reason, one of those categories comes up zero (no heroes, most likely), that pot gets redistributed to the other categories, as evenly as possible, with extra pennies going to the zombie pot or the admin's pockets. Distinctions are simpler. The guy who gets top score in those categories gets the money set aside for it. Top zombie slayer gets $3.00 no questions asked, etc. In the event of a tie, it's divided evenly among top scorers. If a challenge goes unanswered (no heroes) it's spread among the other categories. There you have it. It's an idiot-proof way to pay real money for in-game performance without ever having to pay out more than you take in. You'll monitor the game carefully and disqualify cheaters, you'll control who gets in to avoid tampering and you'll have everyone's payment info at the outset. If people want to team up and farm zombies together to split a pot, or farm humanity by bloodbagging each other for an hour, then shoot each other to get on the hero killer bracket, or feed each other kills, or whatever, you can make the determination of how to deal with it, but no matter what they can't break the game. Throw in a fun bonus objective sometimes, like longest distance traveled by car or most vehicles repaired or have a tally for Mountain Dew or CZ ammo. Allow a re-buy for five more lives if you get wiped out in the first hour. Do whatever you want, and keep your players coming back for more. Also, this sounds like it's probably illegal for one or more reasons, so don't actually do it. I'm just saying these guys offering payouts independent of their revenue are probably going to get burned one way or another. -
What do they mean by unbanned in regards to vehicles? Does that mean theyll spawn in chernarus on hive servers or that theyll be available for use on private servers?

Some basic rules I always use: 1- Zombies are the least of your problems. Watch for other survivors. Most of them will kill you only for fun. 2- That said, stay out of sight. Avoid running in cities or on roads. When moving use the tree line or go deep in the woods. 3- Be invisible. Don't stand on visible spots. Avoid zombie detection at all costs. Aggro'ed Zd's will give away your position and can attract bandits. 4- When looting go first get a weapon. Anything will do, but avoid then if there is no ammo (it will only make you more of a target). 5- Try to run for the bigger cities like Cherno or Elektro. There is close to no loot on small towns or villages. 5- Loot medical supplies. Grab morphine, painkillers and bandages. You can't use the blood bag or the epi-pen on yourself, so leave them. 6- Get a big backpack. Alice backpack is ideal, but the Czech one will do fine. 7- Grab food, drinks and try to fill your tool belt the best you can 8- Leave the coast. Head north. 9- Up North, people with vehicles or in group tends to be hostile. Kill them on sight. 10- Go to a small town and practice shooting at the zombies. You need intimacy with your weapon of choice. Basic etiquete tips (for a survivor): 1- If you are close to another survivor use the direct channel to communicate. Voice is always better. 2- Whenever possible, do the "friendship dance" to show you are not hostile. 3- If there is someone else looting the spot you went for, politely say "sorry, I will wait you leave". And really leave the place. 4- Offer or ask for help. This is the best way to team up. There are a ton more of things, but these will do for your first lives.

guns and ammo are easy. Sneak around a populated server on the outskirts of a major city and you'll find bandit camps full of all sorts of goodies. Unfortuantely you may also find bandits. Heli crashes around Stary Sobor. NWAF barracks always have AKs. Vehicles are another matter. Honestly they are a pain to find and even if you find one, they are an even bigger pain in the ass to find the parts for. A lot of running back and forth into population centers to grab an item that takes up half your backpack.

Forest fires could be season dependant, if during the height of summer the server has had X days seriously hot dry weather then crashing a chopper, throwing a molotov or lighting a fire may result in an inferno, this would be very rare but it's effect would be devastating. It could destroy tents, stashed vehicles and any players unfortunate enough to be in that particular area. It would bring with it renewal. -
Similar experience. I parked and saved an ATV at my secondary base. Came back, it was gone. Later in the week found it spawned in with all the loot intact in my Primary basecamp... so odd. Its like my vehicles come and go as they please lol.

We've updated the server since this post. Server now contains 200-300 vehicles and 200-300 buildings. Videos to come. A big thank-you to Sequisha for spending his time between college/career to help our community out. We will be activating our whitelisting system within the next two weeks to avoid hacking attempts. To join, simply register on our forums (http://rinaun.com/forums/) and supply your guid via the profile field. this field will NOT be shared/viewed by anyone but me, and it is accessible via your profile. We decided to stick to a serious whitelisting system to make sure our users aren't wasting their time on our servers. User who hack will be reported straight to battleye with logs. As one of the first private servers out in june/july, don't expect to see us vanish! Silly donation rewards like BMRF, or abusive admins like on CA/BMRF who ban players for winning don't exist here. No money goes to staff, all money goes strictly to server costs. It's a community, not someones cash project. Please note that some of these posts are from july. We have a long track record of providing a amazing server with admin coverage and other gaming servers. I am not saying WarZ is any good or trying to compare it to DayZ, I know it's confusing. All I am saying is they are the same concept. Take a shooter game, and turn it into a Zombie/Survival MMO. From what I've seen in videos, WarZ looks to have implemented quite a few features that I'm not seeing in War Inc that makes it stand out as its own game... where as DayZ just has zombies and you can eat/drink food... but the rest of the game is still about shooting and vehicles. I will probably get DayZ SA, don't get me wrong. Though I might just wait a few months post-release as even the latest "interview" with rocket states that the game will be in development for like a year after release. I just don't see the SA product being a game changer compared to DayZmod and dunno why they would release it early?

Ok. Let me see if i can help out at all. You shouldnt "Try to be a hero" or "Try to be a bandit" IMO. I dont really clarify either, it all just depends on what happens that day. It should come from having to make decisions given to you. If youre trying to "hunt" players you will need a shit load of patience. Great place to start obviously is the northwest airfield. Me personally, I have a large area shaped like a triangle that I patrol and watch. get an area up by stary and Novy on the way to NWAF and watch that. vehicles will pass through eventually. Best ways to stay hidden. Dont go into towns if you dont have to. Stick to the treeline outside towns and away from roads. Always scout for "white dots" on the edge of your screen, and Zeds over 250m away from you. Those white dots could mean the difference between life or death for you if youre in the woods. They are usually wildlife, but not always. When it comes to actually engaging on someone, scout first and know how many youre up against. wait for a shot you know you can make depending on your skill level, and dont rush it. If they get away there will always be others, it isnt worth having to start over. Those are my 2 cents and personal advice from my own play style, hope this helps some. -
