I only permit ghosting when dealing with camping cherno-newb-killer pussies (sneak behind them). Lame ghosting, dcing and stuff in a real firefight is so not badass, they lol but will never have the experience we got. Lame ass pussy he was, but its common sadly...

Dude your server hopping on the hills at Stary was some pretty lame stuff and was really pussy ghosting around i lived and am not taking any credit from you killing guys 500M out but still ghosting for vantage points was the most pussiest bandit shit ever grow a sack man.

US 486 Approximately 7:23 PM Central time So I go into devil's castle... a guy runs past me (Armed but with a zombie chasing him)... So I shoot him a few times because if he had noticed me, he would have. He drops to the ground, starts popping shots at me with his pistol and when he realizes he can't hit me and has a zombie beating on him he combat logs. For fear of him ghosting me and coming back, I run out. I look behind me while running and notice a guy at the top of the castle staring my direction. Assuming it's his friend, I scope the place out. I don't feel like running away completely, nor do I feel like dying. I scout the place out below the hill, and before I know it I get shot in the back with an AK. I lay on the ground bleeding for a bit with around 1k blood. I get up, try to patch myself up, and then get shot AGAIN but from the tower this time. After all of this, I die and the combat logger lives. I don't know the person's name, but a server admin could easily check who disconnected at that time. I believe his name started with a W, however i'm not 100% sure. Not expecting a lot to be done, but it's quite annoying to die this way when I had plenty of time to Alt+F4 like a scrub. kthx :)

I have a confession to make :(

thats the thing, its not hard to tell a buddy where you were he runs to the area, you loggin (usually on a different server) he spots you layin on the ground bandage/blood bag wait 5 minutes and your good to go again :-/ last night i died twice fighting the same ghosting combat d/c'ing worthless gimp from the [5*] clan, he really wanted that chopper, however we had more people and vehicles to ship us from the coast back into the fight before he could clear the area .. ive never combat logged from Z's or incomming fire, he fights diorty outside the rules we do it within the rules ;-) kudos to the OP, ya did the bad thing, then immediatley logged back in to watch the timmer tick away -
Know what? I'm calling bullshit on all this ghosting talk. It's possible, sure ... but with connecting to a game as unstable as it is at the moment, it's hardly as prevalent as people claim. Folk bang on about it like it's the fucking matrix out there, with people popping out of, and into, existence like they're fucking Higgs Bosuns. Bullshee-it Firefights in DayZ last seconds ... Nowhere near enough time for someone to disconnect, choose another server, move about, disconnect, go back to the original and hope - through esp or some other six sense - they've outflanked their target. I think a lot of this is just someone getting plain ol' outflanked - hardly difficult to do in an engine with poor periperal vision. Face it OP - you got owned. Butthurt is butthurt. Fume.
-
If they disappear, move. I know it's a shitty answer and everyone hates ghosting, but it's the only way you stand a chance. If they start popping out, get yourself in a nice corner, and wait. Chances are they might even be in the same corner as you. Not much more can be done at the moment

US 366 Chicago, banned during gunfight.
DaysOfDoom replied to katt's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I just noticed that you have banned me too for dc during combat and ghosting. I am now going to report your server for admin abuse because I admitted I d/c'ed during combat but I did not ghost and not bannable offences. -
The intent of the current rule set is understood. Problem is, saying that you have to come up with concrete proof BEFORE you ban someone (temp or perm) is an issue (as evident by the numerous threads on how the rules need to be revised). Telling the SA's that they have to allow disruptive behavior to continue while they spend time reviewing logs is asinine. Even though I know no one will believe me, if the ambush incident happened to a different group, on a different server I would still say: "It is very believable that they thought that someone was teleporting to them, and killing them, a server restart is valid, and after the SA determines who was out at the location, a temp ban to further investigate is warranted" I wasn't there, I watched the video, you guys performed an excellent ambush, I think it is awesome and welcome this type of game play, as does Rocket. You stated that your whole motivation for this was that we go to Cherno/Electro and kill folks. This is just a guesstimate, but I would say that thousands and thousands of players do that. Hell, watch some of the top viewed Twitch TV streamers and you will see that is what they do. Is it right/wrong, that is your personal opinion, and neither answer is right or wrong. Kodabar stated in a different thread he had someone in the Clan feeding him information, Xerpt's named was dropped by someone, don't remember who. That is the extent of my knowledge on who the spy was. In a case where I am in game, and someone is doing something suspicious or outright hacking/cheating (to include combat logging or ghosting), they will be removed (a kick), if they return and continue, a temp ban to take the time to look over the situation and determine to the best of my ability if it is legit behavior or not. If it is, the temp ban will be removed, if I feel that the behavior is not legit the ban will stick and they can appeal. Like I said, I think your Operation was awesome, you completed caught them/us with our pants down and spanked away! Sure makes the game more interesting. I have no hard feelings what so ever towards you or anyone that was involved.

Banned from US 1023 to "check logs"
[email protected] replied to jameskp's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hey Naltron! Sorry for surprising you this morning (figure it was night time where you live), but don't ever scare me like that anymore, almost stepping on my head with a ghillie and an FN FAL mate, if you then continue to walk away and aim for my head rather than saying something in direct comms, you signed your death contract. Anyway, ghosting? He didn't ghost at all on the first heli down, I don't know where you see it, the only thing he did was remove a part of the time he ran through the forest to keep the video interesting. Or would you rather have watched someone run through a forest for 6 minutes with a chopper flying somewhere overhead without anything else happening? -

naltron replied to jameskp's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Cool video. and cool attack. but its kinda lame that the ghosting part is not on the video. cuz you guyz ghosted a lot on the first heli down. im just saying the video its clearly edited to make elysium look bad and you guyz look awezome. either way it was a cool ambush.. and xerpt had me fooled xD i had no idea.. -
Costs more money to store more information. The answer to almost every question is: money. To OP: do not get caught up with names and clan tags in this game because they mean almost nothing. I can play as [GHOST]DramaticExit all day long if I want. A serious clan would never use their real names or clan tags in-game. I mean, unless they want the whole world to know that they are ghosting tools...

I had a pretty funny idea just now, while I was in the middle of a long running firefight in Elektro on a certain european server. We were fighting against a lovely group of folks who were disconnecting, changing position on different servers, and reconnecting behind you, etc. Y'know, the standard practice for firefights in DayZ. Bit frustrating... But the thing which amused me was this: If two groups of people were both doing exactly the same thing, the fight itself would never actually happen. You'd have two groups of people moving around on other servers, guessing where the other guys are, popping into the original server once in a while, seeing nothing, and moving again. They'd all just pass one another, like ships in the night. Funny idea... But regardless, for groups of players with a shiny clan tag, who you'd imagine would want to make a name for themselves, this ghosting nonsense hardly sits well with the image they wanna create. I didn't much care about this issue until I started moving with a far larger group of players on a far better populated server. But in large firefights, it's easily the most retarded and annoying shitheap in the game.

ok two guys ambushed two of ours yesterday while refuleing the chopper, 1 of thiers died the other spent the next 6 hours ghosting combat d/cing and generally being a total pansy to try and get the chopper (yeah you know i mean you ya [5*] noob) we shoot the chopper down after he ghosted right next to it and jumped in (unsuprisingly alt+f4 and ran away) after 5 hours of this crap including him mostly repairing it while we were occupied else where we just went guns blazing on it, we didnt have the windshields to reapir the rediculous leack and we dam sure wasnt letting this prick get it so we hit it with 20 AS50 rounds(the actual round not the m107 mags) and multipul stanag (around 15 mags) and a satchel charge everything was smashed, main prop, engine, rear prop, instruments all with the exception of the hull main prop - you shoot the rotor arm engine - straight below that instruments - shoot the nose tail prop - shoot the tail prop hull - where the hell do you have to hit it for this? we literally raked the sides of the chopper(front to back) with fire then went at it with axes and still nothing tl;dr [5*] clan are ghosting pricks, where do ya shoot chopper to break the hull?

I personally am fine with a time on between using Alt F4 and when you disconnect from the server, but I think they should worry about more important things like the rampant hacking issues and ghosting before bothering with changes to Alt F4.

Hello all, I was wondering : As the d/cers and others ghosts just ruin the game, why can't we, admins, ruining their game ? What i'd like to do is : - When a d/cers is spotted : to warn him using global chat - then randomly kick him with message " d/cers / ghosters " . I don't think I'm breaking a rule doing that and I'll be ruining his game so he/she ruins others ... Any ideas or suggestions ?

Attention: Rocket. Please review the DayZ server host rules.
frankyes replied to Zoop's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Today I played on a non hive server and had more fun than I've had in a while since I first started playing DayZ. The game was being played the way it should be. Sure some guys would altF4 but there was no ghosting and it was actually a challenge. Tents were working as well. My entire team was having a blast. I felt that adrenaline rush that I had been missing from this game for a while. Then the hackers came in. Started ruining our fun. We were collecting parts for vehicles and killing people trying to take it and we were teleported and thunderdomed. I believe servers should be passworded and non-hived until there can be some sort of way to prevent altF4, ghosting, and hacking. There has to be a process to white list your IP outside of game. Please bring back the game I love so much. -
Clan vs Clan PVP Competition
_Gunslinger_ replied to Timmymachine109 (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
My teammates and I (we're not exactly a clan) had a little 2v2v2v2 throwdown in the Elektro industrial area last night. Had a slow start because some derphard with a Lee Enfield ambushed us (fair play to him) and then tried ghosting us (not so cool). Once we got going it was a blast, mostly because we had an odd assortment of weapons; an AKM, FN FAL, various M4 variants, and my monster of a Mk48. -
So today me and 3 of my friends were running down black mountain when all of us suddenly had the shock symbol. As we were running we would stop and hear foot steps (hacker ghosting). So I act like nothing is wrong and we continue on. As we enter these woods I hear huge explosions so all of drop to the ground and it almost sounded like a dam bomb run from a jet. Scared the piss out of me and then all of the sudden over the game chat I hear "Hey can I join you guys?" so I answer where are you and look around. All of us are in a circle pointed outwards and he appears in the center of us!! I was terrified of him so he asked the same question. So I answered yes if you don't kill us (we were planning on DCing right there.) So to distract him I asked him what else he could do and he said he can spawn weapons. So I ask him to spawn me a G36 SD and while he is doing it I told everyone to log out via skype. Probably one of the most scariest moments I have ever had and this life I am on now has been 3-4 days of living so I have some pretty good stuff. Hackers are starting to become more often and it makes me scared to play on random servers, guess I'll stick to main servers I usually get on.

RE: Private Hives and 'The Rules' - (Update from Rocket inside)
boatie replied to Anton17's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Thanks for all the post guys and gals. I am going to give these private server a chance now. So many problems exists with the main hive that seem beyond Rocket or the dayz's current ability to solve. This sounds like a good temp solution until the stand alone comes out. Here is my summary of why private servers are a good alternative: 1. Server admin actually can do something about hackers. On the normal dayz server, they can do nothing and it seems that Rocket is also powerless to do anything. With greater admin control, easier to identify and ban hackers. If there is admin abuse, just pick another private server. 2. No server hopping. The solutions that rocket has talked about seem pathetic (monitor, warn and ban) will not solve anything. 3. No ghosting. Tactical play and teamwork will actually pay off now. You don't have guys magically appearing 100 meters behind you. Then the true fun of dayz will come back. 4. The dayz hive, because of the crazy popularity of dayz, is a quivering mess. Duping, desync, lag, alot of these issues are related to a main hive that is overwhelmed. In fact, Rocket needs to at least consider creating regional main hives, such as 1 for North America, 1 for Europe, etc. Currently its a mess. 5. Reduce metagaming, such as hoarding all cars. People can work together to get at the hoarders and have fun experiencing all facets of the game. 6. Private servers allows for variance to local settings, so you can pick and use servers that have options you like, such as side chat, alt-f4 banning. -
Alt F4 -> Move position on another server
Vexus replied to batskater's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
To clarify for the ubernoobs, ghosting is when you have someone, usually a dead player in spectator mode, telling you the location of enemies or looking around corners for you. Not DayZ's particular, specific problem of people being able to move positions by server hopping. Thank you. -

Easy Solution to Solve Many Problems
tophercook (DayZ) replied to paratus's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
If you haven't run into the issue of ghosting and hopping yet, you will eventually find it can be completely game-breaking. You say to let him work on "actual problems" yet in my opinion, server hopping and ghosting is one of the largest problems the game currently faces (duping and hacks aside). " AMEN!!!!! -
1 step from repairing a helicopter -- server restart, dead helicopter
TBERT88 replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I've actually had the same happen with an admin i forgot the server though. we crashed our chopper and the server reset right when we got to it. When it came back up my buddy killed someone that was near it (it was actually stil there. Only time out of 7 choppers it stayed.) So then we all 3 start getting kicked for "ghosting". I dont' have my copy running in steam so sadly I can't take screens. Practically every server I've set as a home server has currupt as admins but they do it in ways that would be hard to prove like just randomly reseting and things of that nature. I used to play in 1438 which had hardcore rules and we got a chopper and found the admins clans camp and stole everything so after that they turned on the radar were you could see vehicles nearby and your location for like 2 days. They got all their stuff and reverted it back to hardcore rules. -
Banned from US 1023 to "check logs"
Alphabeta replied to jameskp's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I'm one of the server admins on US 1023 - just to let you know those "rules" are not followed. We do not kick/ban users for ghosting lightly (even though it's considered an exploit by rocket) - however, if there are enough complaints about this regarding a specific user who is abusing this then they will be banned from the server. It only seems fair to other players on the server. On the servers I have played on most admins do shut down the server after a hacker presence is known. Be it teleporting, mass killing, spawning or other abusive actions. It seems as though DayZ in the last few weeks has become infested with hackers and it's becoming harder to differentiate between them and legitimate users. It's much easier to temporarily remove a user from the server and fully examine the logs than it is to not do anything and have "hackers" running through the server time after time. Another heads up, the US 1023 ban list is the default ban list. There are not other bans. The 3 temp bans put in place have been removed in under 30 minutes. There's nothing wrong with an active admin team on ANY DayZ server. This is usually the case, an incident happened a week ago where a hacker was reported but no admin was around and within a few minutes the entire server was killed. It could have been prevented by a simple restart and temp ban on that user. -
As I said I wasn't there. I saw the forum thread, hopped on TS asked what happened. The Admin who was there wasn't online so I couldn't talk to him. So what "evidence" he has on the person that was banned, I do not know. He did post in this thread though about the situation and stated that the logs showed something and that they would be available for review by the DayZ staff. Concerning "OMG it must be a hacker cause....." I would venture to say that with the current state/amount of "hacking" in this game, if something looks fishy or something out of the ordinary happens, a majority of SA's will believe they are being hacked first, sad state of the game, but true. There is another thread in here about someone who was banned for either "combat logging" or "ghosting". They came here, told their story, the SA looked into it and his ban was removed. The process might not be perfect, but it worked, and in this case, if it turns out that a mistake was made, the ban will be reversed. As far as being blacklisted, if it happens, it happens, no fucks will be given, by me at least.
