OK: So since you are a civilian in DayZ why would you be able to just jump inside a helicopter/tank/plane and just fly/drive it like a well trained army guy? There should be something like a manual or handbook for each vehicle, but only the bigger and more dangerous ones. (Helis/Tanks/Planes/Military Planes) You would find the aircraft manuals at Airports and airfields or military camps etc, and the armoured vehicles at military camps aswell. It would work like any other consumable item, disappearing from you inventory when you use it and you will get a notification saying: 'You have learned how to pilot a plane/helicopter/armoured vehicle Tanks and APC's - Armoured Vehicles and You: The complete guide to piloting your very own tank Helicopters - Taking On Helicopters: The perfect book for the beginner Helicopter pilot! Military Jets - Protecting Chernarus's Skies-The must-have book for any of our men and women protecting Chernarus's skies Commercial Planes - So you want to be a plane pilot: The in's and out's of flying a commercial aircraft Tell me what you think VVVVVV

Funny story playing Dayz today: I was in a Panthera server at the north airfield on a motorcycle, and i hear as50 shots landing near me, so only having and m9 sd i flanked around and he scared me off with an l85 holo. A couple minutes later i decided he was gone and went back out onto the airfield. I met a little bambi friend and he left to go check the airfield for things. I was hiding behind a heli i was repairing and BAM! Bambi is ded. I quickly scan the treeline and find him and light him up with my DMR. i go and loot his body, take the as50 and hide the body (Because he killed an unarmed and was a bandit) So i fix up the heli and start flying, and i see the same guy asking for a pickup. We have a long argument over why i shot him and such, and i took a leap of faith and headed back and picked him up. Turns out, who i thought was a scumbag bandit in the beginning is now a buddy of mine. We flew around and looted some things, killed some snipers and in the end i gave him his as50 back and left him with my Huey ( The server had extra vehicles, i figured even if he lost it i could get another). Dayz is a funny game.

Dayz Taviana - [SPDT] SPDT.enjin.com - (HALO Jump - more heli crashes - lift vehicle with aircraft) (2.0/101480/GMT-5) Looking for members/staff/admin
Pandaface replied to SPDT taviana's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
This server really deserves more players.. Friendly admins, cool custom bases, and fair amount of vehicles.. Loads of people just play on some random server where nobody gave the effort to make it really enjoyable. The only thing this server needs... Survivors/bandits, I need more gunfights :P -
Idea to make tanks and aircraft harder to use
[email protected] replied to dulix11's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Even just adding manual gearboxes would be QQ fuel for most. The more thought required, the better. YES, vehicles should give you an advantage. But their operation definitely shouldn't be simple. EDIT: Handbooks? No. More in-depth functionality. Definitely. -
Player decisions: Unlocking new Content
IcyZ replied to joe_mcentire's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Your idea is pretty much already in the game.find random loot=chopper crashes.find random vehicles=random cars in warehouses the only difference between your idea and the game as it's now,in my opinion is that you're trying to promote teamwork.but like many others,i've seen pretty much how that story ends, clan hoarding or betrayal between the newly formed team.although,if in the standalone implement a group system, like being in the same group with your clanmates,or creating one with the random survivor you met and decided to team up with, could be a solution,at least to the betrayal.if you are in the same group and he kills you it'll say "***booboo was killed by Booboo***(friendly fire)" so everyone will know that he was acting like your friend till he killed you, alerting the server to not trust him and probably shoot him on sight pardon my fucked up grammatical errors,English language hates me -
Player decisions: Unlocking new Content
[email protected] replied to joe_mcentire's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I get it, and the thinking behind it is totally sound. Just in my view, anything which requires teamwork and ends with power (whether by loot, vehicles or otherwise) will invariably lead to pre-existing teams gaining greater advantages. One thing that comes up occasionally is re-engaging the Elektro power plant and bringing light to the night. It's about the only example I can think of where the benefit isn't merely a personal one. -
Idea to make tanks and aircraft harder to use
thesodesa replied to dulix11's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
That wasn't my point. I was simply saying that all the vehicles that will be included should in my opinion be realistic (not necessarily difficult though that usually follows) in how they are operated. -
Player decisions: Unlocking new Content
joe_mcentire replied to joe_mcentire's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
yeah i would not pin it down on an overpowered godsend. This would be just a possibility. The main idea is more that, as said, you or a Team can unlock certain equipment/vehicles/memorabilia or just background info directly linked to the apocalypse or to a certain area in the game. If you want so, you can implement things like these also doable on your own. Please don't fixate on the example, it was merely an illustration -
I play on a whitelisted server and right now we have a 2 man group. My practice used to be to try to communicate with other players on sight, but based on experience, I've learned to shoot first, ask questions later unless I know the person is friendly. Hero's are welcome and bandits are welcome (just don't kill us). We play on a white-listed vanilla server with some extra vehicles that has a medium population currently. All you need is maturity, some basic knowledge of the game and our play times should match for at least and hour or two. I'm usually on anywhere between 5-10 GMT-5 (EST) on weekdays and I play frequently on weekends. Server name is DayZ Unleashed. Here's the link to our server's forums. Only takes 5 min- few hrs to get white-listed depending on time of day. Server is GMT-7 day/night MSG me if interested. Join server chernarus (PVP) TS is: dayzgaming.us:9987

What would you do if this happened to you?
-Gews- replied to BEASTWolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The BRDM still isn't fair. I had a BRDM in Wasteland, without any ammo, and it could blow up vehicles by ramming them on the highways. One guy survived the crash and started firing at me while I tried to run him over, no damage to me or the BRDM. The BTR-40 (unarmed) would be the only armoured vehicle I would consider non-op in DayZ. -

A Way to Introduce a more Work-together environment?
shadowleaper replied to Steam_Power's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the best way to deal with this issue is use what we already have: Humanity. Hero: The higher up to go the better you get at: "Healing, spotting players, scavenging, repairing vehicles" Bandit: The higher up you go the more you "Carry more ammo, survive in the wild, steal etc." The trick here is to not give any bonus combat abilities to either. Combat should stay the as neutral as possible, but the more 'Hero' you become, the more your character will not tolerate a bandit in his presence and visa versa, maybe an auto combat system that kicks in if you're too close/have line of sight or something. The opposite being true. Another idea to all this is how each type will influence their own kind: -Standing around a max level hero will cause your hp to go up faster because your moral gets boosted. -Standing around a max level bandit will cause you to move faster on foot/use navigatie better etc. Just throwing these out there, they'd all need to be balanced. -
If you want both, go play wasteland. DayZ doesn't need all the vehicles. Also both are separate mods so it isn't possible... Let alone the fact it would be boring
-
It's fine, it's not supposed to be GTA. I sometimes play on 500+ vehicle servers just to rape with helis, and even there vehicles are 'rare'; people suck at driving/flying them, destroy them or similar, so more vehicles isn't the way to accomplish your goal of actually increasing vehicle density. Players 'control' the amount of vehicles, those who care will hoard and protect them, the rest will destroy them and increasing the vehicle limit won't make a big difference.

What would you do if this happened to you?
Michaelvoodoo25 replied to BEASTWolverine's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Well that's one argument for not having tanks or armoured vehicles. On the other hand if th admin allow this sort of thing, then it is their call if they pay the bills. Your right however, this takes so much from DayZ there is no point, you may as well load up Arma 2 and play with every vehicle there is (It is a good thing to Play Arma 2 as it has some great learning curves) -
Who knows? That's what makes having a car so special and important to a player in DayZ. You learn to covet things like cars and bikes because you never know when you'll find another or if you're going to lose it sooner or later. It's all part of the DayZ experience. I don't have a problem with vanilla servers' vehicle population. I like the scarcity of vehicles because it makes the value increase, enhancing what the game is really about for me. If you have a problem with not enough vehicles, then I guess that's your problem:/
-
Really? If you want a lot of cars go play wasteland. I laugh at the 500+ vehicle servers. Seriously, why don't they just play wasteland? I'm sure they'd like it better. More cars, more guns, more pvp, and no annoying zombies that everyone complains about. I stick to vanilla DayZ with limited vehicles. Resources (including vehicles) are meant to be scarce.
-
Why the hell would I want to play in a server that has 500+ Vehicles.
-
This is a good example of the whole "this is your story" motto. Really, you can speculate whatever you want about the lack of vehicles. Everyone fled in cars and planes at the start of the outbreak. For me, I think the lack of vehicles that you can drive is realistic enough. There's so many destroyed vehicles simply because all the working ones are gone.

is dayz 100% PvP on the long term?
xwhitemousex replied to _Anubis_ (DayZ)'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
DayZ summed up. Find water (preferrably water bottle) Find food Find weapon (axe or crowbar is sufficient) Find hunting knife Find hatchet (if you didn't find it as part of step 3.) Find box of matches Find water bottle (unless you did so already in step 1.) Once you have all the above you no longer need to visit a single building in the entire game. You kill animals in the wild, harvest wood, make a fire and cook the meat. Likewise, you use water bottle at lakes and drink that (granted, after 1.7.5.1. you need a tin can to boil the water, but the tin can is not consumed in the process so you only need one.) Put simple, once you complete the steps above you "won" the game from a "not going to die from hunger or thirst" point of view. I had the same sentiments as the OP and I found DayZ to be the most fun when I was new in the game, as he cleverly put it... you get more from the game the less you know about it. Because the less you know the more exciting and dangerous it feels. I haven't died to a zombie in ages either. In fact, the last time I died was when I broke my leg due to a stupid tent bug and rather than having my friend waste 2-3 hours and risk his gear by finding morphine on the opposite side of the map at Cherno, Elektro or Berezino, he shot me in the face, put my gear in the tent and I ran back to loot it. However, after 1.7.5.1 I find the zeds to be alot more challenging. I fired off one shot with a winchester just yesterday and suddenly it looked just like the scene in 28 Weeks later when he is running from the old house at the start... with zeds rushing at me from every angle across an open field. Madness! And I loved it! Teaming up is what it is about! Now, if you want the game to offer more than just finish the list at the start of this reply, then I strongly suggest teaming up with other people. Either join a gaming community and join their voicechat (mumble, TS, vent et.c.) or have some friends join you and set up your own voicechat servers. The game is LOADS more fun when you play as a group, even as a small one. Here are some examples why. You run around alone, you find a vehicle... it has a broken tire, damaged hull and low on gas... what do you do? Well... it's going to take you awhile to find all those things and carry them back alone. And most likely the vehicle is in an area full of zeds crawling around as well. So the survivalist choice is to leave it behind and move on. But with friends, the workload is much less... and the inventory space bigger... so that tire taking up 6 slots, the scrap metal taking 3 slots, the jerry cans (which you may need 2-3 of at least for a car) take 3 slots each... but when you spread that across several people it's much easier. Also, with more friends you can split up and scavenge different locations for items rather than doing it all alone... so fixing motorcycles, cars and trucks is much easier... And let me tell you... the game changes alot once you got some wheels. Those 5km journeys to the next supermarket is a breeze rather than an annoying run. Not to mention, as was the case last night for me and my friend. He got smacked through a wall by a zombie, broke his leg and was basically eaten alive. We were quite far from the coast as well which meant at least a 4-6km run from respawn back to his body. Quite daunting if you are alone and have to run all the way, perhaps only able to navigate using DayZDB or other sites since you have no ingame map anymore. But since we were two, and we still had our motorcycle... I simply got on the bike, drove down to the coast, picked up my friend on the mainroad by Komarov, drove back to where he died. I ran out on a field, fired a shot in the air, all the zeds ran after me and he ran in to loot himself. Very easy and done quite fast as well (compared to doing it all alone). Now we have found a few tents during our raids and set up a couple of camps... we found a boat, a 4x4 truck, 2 motorcycles (which we are still fixing up) and a V3S truck which we need to get out of a city (it was missing only a tire). And this is with just me and a friend working together as a pair. It's even cooler if you have more people and a larger group. In conclusion Put simple... You can "win" the game by just finding the right tools and then live in the woods as a lone wolf. Or you can group up with friends and start all sorts of small projects, such as fixing up vehicles, setting up camps, start gather ammo for military guns (which can be quite sparse on white listed servers since there is no, or at least very limited, duping and cheating) and so on. As a group, DayZ becomes a whole new ballgame!
