  4. Fantastic decision for expanding the map! Thank you. Can we please expand and extend the land more? Even surpass Chernarus by far? The journey rather than the destination and that requires a huge extended map. Even though I do enjoy Namalsk, I do not enjoy it for its actual size, I do enjoy it for its unique atmosphere. I'd have enjoyed more than any other map in Dayz a huge winter map. A huge Namalsk or a huge Sakhal. - The idea of being thrown into a vast utterly hostile post-apocalyptic world is always more intriguing, immersive and terrifying than that of being thrown into a small one that could quickly become familiar and difficult to get lost in. - The varying amounts of desolation and vastness add to the feeling of the emptiness of the post-apocalyptic world, to the gloomy tone, the wide open spaces and the unknown, the cold, the strong crosswind, that old cabin wood cracking, the quiet and caressing sounds of water and to the rustling of leaves, where wind-blown leaves catch in the long grass and floating leaves of trees. Still life! - The character's death can be more punishing. Returning to a given place can be very demanding because of the distance involved (which is good). This partially adds to the decision-making required to survive and not take our actions lightly. It is a crucial part for how we set the tone, strategy and the pace of the content because that's part of the investment requirements which reflect on consequences. In a setting, minimising loss of investment is devaluing it along with the effort of time and space required to acquire back the loss in which results in users taking decisions and actions lightly. - It is more inclined towards the slow-pace aspect where things take time. - More terrain to plot and discover. - Longer trips even with vehicles. - Less death-match aspect and more vast authentic post-apocalyptic survival world focused which will make a more pronounced solitude in-game, thus making the rare interactions probably more intense.

    Walking should be option not requirement

    Vehicles have always been a part of the dayz experience since the mod. They could totally add more vehicles. They could up the player count on their servers if they just paid for it, instead of the silly 40/60 player count for the base game. Go look at the community tab and see what Dayz REALLY can be. Modders are making it happen. EVERY play style is there, just browse a bit. The devs made promises they still ( 10 years later) have not been able to keep. There are no original devs working on this game anymore, due to its age. So who knows what kind of goofy idea they will throw in next. Honestly surprised there are no micro transactions yet tbh

    Lore wise Chernarus is supposed to be post-war and post-pandemic country. Maybe the military intentionally destroyed cars so that the infection wouldn't spread, no clue tbh. But I do agree that there maybe should be more fixable vehicles. I wonder if the current number of vehicles is a server performance limit or just purely a balancing act.
  9. So in some recent posts I noticed this but I think vehicles outnumber people in real life. Bikes, cars, motorcycles, trucks, they don't all break as soon as everyone dies. They'd actually be easier to find laying around and would make more player interaction. That's kinda how I'm starting to think it really should be.. every group has a car, not just one. Walking and running is the stealthy minority and tried and true option, but the mod always had tons of vehicles to get around (I know this ain't the mod, it's much better but). I think people long for that and new players assume it. Maybe simplify cars and add more?

    I sorta have to agree with you. I think vehicles outnumber people in real life. Bikes, cars, motorcycles, trucks, they don't all break as soon as everyone dies. They'd actually be easier to find laying around and would make create more player interaction. That's how it really should be.. every group has a car, not just one.

    Suggestion for developers

    I think you should understand that 350 hours is nothing in this game; you and your frustrated friends are still very much new, especially if you're of the opinion that surviving (finding foods/necessities), navigating the map, or obtaining high tier weapons is difficult. I don't think having every other player driving around would be beneficial to the game. Also, if youre not finding vehicles at spawns, you need to walk through the woods or edge of the map, they're constantly hidden or abandoned in the woods (I play official and already have 5 cars stashed in the woods and know where a couple others are if I want them despite the wipe).
  12. Since the hitbox for the trees has been updated to a less detailed cone shape, entering or interacting with vehicles hidden in the woods has become extremely annoying. The hitbox seems to block all inputs related to the car; often times, the player can't get in, remove car parts, access the inventory, or even push the car (which would actually solve the issue) without chopping the entire tree down. This issue has made stashing cars a bit of a nightmare IMO. It seems easy to resolve, it just needs more attention.

Welcome to our Dev Blog, where we pull back the curtain on the development of the DayZ Frostline Expansion. This blog is our way of sharing the highs and lows of our journey with you, the community. Your support has been crucial to the game’s success, and we’re excited to bring you along as we continue to create something special. Let's talk about boats and sound design for DayZ Frostline! Boats! We started prototyping boats late last year, and by the start of this year, the boat was selected for full development. mostly to complement the islandic nature of Sakhal, The initial implementation used in the prototype was stable enough for us to move forward, though we did take some shortcuts, such as leveraging existing simulations such as the car engine and gearbox. Early on, we realized that the complex nature of vehicles, combined with the instability of the pre-existing reconciliation system, could lead to boats bouncing and spinning uncontrollably in the ocean. To address this, we agreed that changes in networking were essential. Buoyancy is a complex simulation designed for the possible inclusion of more realistic ocean waves in the future. It uses a shape - which the modders will know as the "Simple Geometry LOD" - to find the total displaced volume and find the buoyant force and does some additional simulation of drag. Controlling boats in DayZ is intentionally simpler than handling cars. Boats feature three gears: Forward, Neutral, and Reverse. While there are no brakes, you can manage your speed by adjusting the throttle or shifting into reverse to slow down. Boats are primarily designed for one simple b ut vital purpose: transporting players across large bodies of water. They don’t have any inventory space, so you won’t be able to hoard items on them. To get a boat running, you’ll only need a spark plug and some gasoline. If you find a boat on a beach or in shallow water, you can push it into deeper water to start your journey. As demonstrated by @iRoadie_ & @AmishZed Each boat can carry three passengers and one operator, with unique animations for sitting, dying, switching seats, rolling out of the boat even being dragged out. There's also the consideration of maintenance. While damage doesn’t immediately affect driving performance, it poses a risk as it accelerates the vehicle's progression toward a ruined state. You can repair the boat body by using the tire repair kit. The engine can't be repaired. Once the boat is ruined, it will start to sink slowly, giving you time to get out of the seat. Last but not least, you have the ability to stand on the boat while it moves at a leisurely pace. However, caution is advised, as increasing the boat's speed will result in you falling off. And yes, you will be able to fish from the boat while it’s stationary, so get ready to cast your line and haul in some catches! P.S. We've rolled out an experimental update for 1.26, which includes boats! You can test it out right now on the experimental branches for PC and Xbox. We've already seen some fantastic community reactions to the boats. Check them out below: ROBL (Rolling off the Boat, Laughing) by Happybombs Slexify's Intense Boat Fight Wobo's Review/Explainer Video on the Boats Sound Design on Sakhal In our work on environmental sounds for Sakhal, we've added 346 new short ambient sounds that play around the player as 3D audio. These include the sounds of vegetation, metal sounds for new harbor objects, and, of course, birds. We aimed to incorporate bird species specific to the Kamchatka region, but due to limited availability of recordings, we included some birds from other northern areas, like Alaska. These sounds complement the base 2D layers, such as wind, snowfall, and area-specific ambients. We've also introduced 19 new ambient loops that dynamically mix based on factors like area, time, wind, and snowfall. Our goal was to create an environment that feels somewhat alive, even in low temperatures, while also emphasizing the harshness of strong winds. When the wind blows heavily, the contrast becomes apparent as all animal sounds fall silent, heightening the feeling of being overwhelmed by the elements. We control both 2D ambient loops and 3D ambient sounds with the wind factor to achieve this effect. In moments when the player is far from trees or objects where animals might be, and the wind is still, the world can feel almost eerily silent. We're proud to say we've achieved this goal, though we already have a list of improvements we plan to make in the future. Jan Knot, Sound Designer

    DO Not Shrink the Slots in Clothes in Update 1.26!!!

    Do we want to make a “realistic” game? OK, I agree, but let’s do it ALL, not just a part or what is convenient for someone! *) Backpacks should be stored full without having to empty them. Everywhere. *) Backpacks should not disappear after 8 hours, but should remain until time and weather destroy them. *) Inside a car I should be able to: eat, sleep, heal myself, drink, fix a weapon, modify a weapon, rummage through the FULL backpack placed in the back seat or the passenger seat if I am driving alone, change my clothes, etc... *) I should be able to build tents and fences EVERYWHERE! NOT just on perfectly flat ground! There is no possibility of digging the ground to level it, like in reality. How do we do it? Do we simulate digging with greater penetration into the ground of the structures or do we add some kind of “base”, penetrable into the ground, on which to then build? Your choice... *) Shoes and especially boots should NOT wear out to the point of being thrown away after 1/2 days of walking! I have hiking boots that have walked for miles even on rocky terrain for several decades and are still in good condition! *) Tools should NOT wear out like they do now. I have some pliers that are from my grandfather, that I myself have used for decades and are still in excellent condition! I have a fishing rod from when I was a child, still in perfect working order and I have fished a lot with it. Now I don't use it anymore because I bought better ones, NOT because it has "worn out"! The fishing line wears out and is changed, NOT the rod and not even the hooks (I have attached some to the bottom and have never recovered them, but NEVER ruined them for a few fish recovered!) *) I don't think there is a human being capable of eating a whole cow and not being adequately nourished and still being hungry! And after 1/2 days have an empty stomach again! These are NOT humans, but an alien species... maybe... *) When I look through a scope (scope or rangefinder) I should be able to move as I want without changing my view! In DayZ, the view through the scope BLOCKS the character! And I bet if I report it they will say "it's a desired feature". Which, in my opinion, should NOT even need to be reported! *) When I was trained for the mountains, a heavy backpack did NOT prevent me from jumping over walls and fences... it's all a matter of training! *) In real life you do NOT fit into a barrel or a crate, but you can use them to climb on top of them and get higher. This is correct, NOT only in reality, but it should be in any video game... These programmers "disabled" it on purpose!!! Do I need to say more!?! 😠 *) When you raise a weapon, you raise it "generic" first of all (I don't know what it's called in English, but you get what I call "cross on the screen"), ONLY THEN, if you really want, you put your eye in the scope. DayZ works the other way around: you raise the weapon and find the scope... then, if anything, you have to "lower" it to the "generic aim". Which is not realistic. *) Weapon consumption. Do we want to discuss this too, maybe competing on who is more "expert" and who is less?!? Or do we all agree that a few dozen shots are not enough to "use up a weapon" and not even a few dozen more to "damage" it?!? *) Have you ever transported a full barrel by rotating it on its base? I have news for you: IT IS POSSIBLE! In real life it works!!! *) And what about plants that grow, flower, bear fruit, wither and rot in a few hours?!? *) And the cold: In DayZ even with very different clothes as insulation the difference is minimal, almost irrelevant *) And the humidity: Waterproof clothes should stay dry, not damp... Patience, only matches suffer from humidity... 😞 *) And the water: If you put your legs (with very well insulated clothes and mountain boots) in the water you freeze and lose health... ABSURD, not even Chernarus was set at the North Pole or South Pole. And you know that with a special wetsuit you can go underwater even under the polar ice caps, right? At least the firefighter clothes (very well insulated and waterproof) should allow you to swim without damage for a few hours, the hunter clothes (and similar) should allow the same for at least an hour without risking your life. *) And the performance of the vehicles on paper: Ridiculous and unrealistic in terms of power, torque and gear ratios. The grip on asphalt is also ridiculous (there is a widely used mod that fixes just that). The M3S, which is a 6x6 truck, has been "nerfed specifically" and now it doesn't even go up a simple, slightly inclined lawn, when in reality it should (almost) climb walls, given that in reality it can climb up to 75% slopes. (Search with Google "Praga V3S") Let's leave aside the "management defects" of the vehicles, which shake, jump, swerve on their own and... sometimes (now I don't know if it still happens)... they even flew into orbit. *) And many others that I don't remember now... DayZ IS NOT REALISTIC... And it doesn't even intend to become so (they clearly say it somewhere in this same forum. As soon as I find it I'll say it)... UNFORTUNATELY... But DO NOT bring up the story of "realism" as soon as it suits you to justify some changes!!! Because it is NOT possible to do a bit like this and a bit like that as is convenient at the moment... it messes up the game even more than it already is.

    Hi Lakevu, While I want to see more authentic, unforgiving, horror, survival, post-apocalyptic elements implemented in DayZ and no infestation of arcadness (including those that you mentioned: movements and gunplay, etc) I might disagree with you on the claimed part that DayZ is a simulator. (though I might not know that the original idea might be but let's proceed to continue reading to try to understand this because I might find myself unsurprisingly agreeing with you on the accurate matter that DayZ should be a simulator). I promise you. I'd definitely want it to be a simulator too and I do firmly believe that it would tremendously and absolutely enhance its experience (at least for me) but to my knowledge, it is not what Bohemia Interactive describe it in their official website. I do not criticise Bohemia Interactive unfairly on this because they do not market it as a simulator. Can you provide me the proof that DayZ is officially described as a simulator? We also need as much matter as we can about physics simulations that have been degraded by Bohemia Interactive later on, at least with videos, etc. Because the unfortunate part is that everything that you talk about can be cowardly claimed as hypothesis or subjective preferences by those who don't have any gain from it. Until then, the defence of Bohemia Interactive innocent until proven guilty is applied. However, I think that pushing more for authenticity, horror, brutal, unforgiving, survival and post-apocalyptic aspects are currently easily justified because the official description of DayZ is: "DayZ is a gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hybrid-MMO game, players follow a single goal: Survive by any mean necessary." Does it need to be to be congruent with its official description? Was the mod itself complex enough to be a survival simulator? Was the legacy versions like the 0.62 complex enough to be a simulator later on? One thing for sure: DayZ came from a system that is officially described and marketed as the most realistic military combat simulation ever developed That is one of the reasons why I encourage Bohemia Interactive to put a strong foot and focus on the realistic implementations for DayZ regarding of the liking of any audience with its tuppenny. Because it is on par with its identity, its official descriptions and its roots. Dean Hall said in an interview that the idea of DayZ is to be realistic but he choose to avoid the word realistic because people will come and say that the infected are not realistic. That's how he preferred to use the word "authentic". The infected and the unknown virus are just a vehicle of what drove the world to collapse but everything else is realistic. The realism of everything else is crucial because that's the intrigue of the post-apocalypse. That's the sub-genre and the market spoke for it even when it was unstable with a lot of issues, bugs, etc. There's a market for it and not just for DayZ but for the sub-genre itself. Following this, the infestation of arcadness (for lack of better term) should not stay in DayZ and we should get rid of it as much as we can because it does not stick to its official description. I can confidently argue that there's many aspects in DayZ that are too forgiving and inauthentic. (This includes movement and gunplay that have been mentioned here) those are just a couple of examples and there's still tremendously more in this matter to be addressed. This leads us to another question: Can authentic content stick to its identity without being a simulation? I too conclude that the modern ideal of authenticity does not lend itself to a coherent and rationally compelling account, and will more profitably be seen as a mixture of logically unrelated concepts. The nature and value of authentic behaviour has been explained by associating it with personal identity (being/remaining oneself) and fidelity to self (being true to oneself). An example of one of the most paradigm cases of inauthenticity from Bohemia Interactive in regards to DayZ is in the art concept of the trailer 1.20 premiered on Valentine's Day on Youtube. It was alarming, cynical, puerile and devoid of any seriousness and commitment to its identity. I don't know... maybe I'm the one who doesn't know what DayZ is and DayZ itself doesn't know either. DayZ: being true to myself means being true to my own originality, and that is something only I can articulate and discover. In articulating it, I am also defining myself. I am realising a potentiality that is properly my own. If authenticity involves being true to one’s “originality”, it will presumably also be a matter of avoiding blind conformism and undue deference. The value of being true to oneself: the borrowed truths are the ones to which one clings most tenaciously, and all the more so since they remain foreign to our intimate self. It takes much more precaution to deliver one’s own message, much more boldness and prudence, than to sign up with and add one’s voice to an already existing party. I believed that it is above all to oneself that it is important to remain faithful. We behave inauthentically because it is easier than “delivering one’s own message” The result may be what D.W. Winnicott calls a “false self”. This is among reasons why I despise the wide audience, anybody and anything trying to cater to it at all costs and I really do think and firmly believe that I'm better than this audience (I know that it may sound narcissistic but it is what it is). I see them as below me, I firmly believe that they are, all packaged and blindfolded. Yes, I'm better than them! The unfortunate matter is that it's a number's game and money talks. I'm the minority and they are the majority. I am and they are the piggy pinky party animal. I'm the untamed and educated and they are the tamed by the virus. I'm the immune survivor and they are the majority of the infected population. No, we cannot live together! Last but not least, There's officially no zombies in DayZ. In the horror-sub genre, there's a difference between zombies that you find in different medias (Resident Evil, Night of the living dead, The Walking Dead, etc) and infected (28 Weeks Later, DayZ, The Last of Us, etc) I believe the letter "Z" in DayZ stands for Zero - Day Zero.

    Suggestion for developers

    Hello! Ive played Dayz for 350 hours. The biggest issue in the game is that there are no vehicles to be found. My friends quit playing the game because we couldn’t find one. It’s so frustrating to walk 95% of the time playing the game. I went thru 30 of vehicle spawn and found nothing. If you die you got to walk again for hours. That makes me and people I know quit. I suggest adding alot more vehicles that can spawn. Also a some servers should have monthly wipe wich will make the pvp experience more balanced. Also vehicles should despawn after 1-7 days of not being interacted or used. Waiting for the better 1.27. Until then I don’t think I am going to play the game much.

    I can agree with this, but why reduce the slots of all clothes (creating other types of problems) and not simply put a "block" of certain objects in certain clothes? Wouldn't it have been fairer, more rational and less impactful on gameplay? Keep in mind that this is a game. It has very little "realism" ... unfortunately ... every change you make, also affects many other aspects of the game, if you make changes that are too "generic", you affect the whole game, not just certain aspects. At this point they should also review the space used by many objects that, at the moment, are out of scale, such as weapon kits (3x2 > 2x1), leather kits (3x2 > 2x1), Acogx6, shoes and boots (they are huge), clothes with nothing inside (they are huge), backpacks with nothing inside (they are huge), etc ... This is also part of the "realism", and you can't reduce ALL the space without also reducing the size of the objects to be contained ... IT UNBALANCES EVERYTHING. I agree about the 20 liter gas can in the pants and I agree that the backpack should be removed and opened to get something... but also deposited WHOLE without being emptied (like in real life), and deposited FULL in the adjacent or back seats or in the trunk of the vehicles (like in real life)... there are many aspects of the game that you have to keep in mind when changing something, otherwise you do NOT "fix the game", but "mess it up even more". This is what these programmers (and many players) do not seem to understand... or do not care...

    The "problem" is that things are rarely either "black" or "white"... and in a game there is always a need for balance, otherwise it can become really bad. You can't randomly mix "realism" and "arcadism", you always have to consider the balance. Too much realism in just one aspect, leaving everything else "too arcade" makes a game really bad. This, unfortunately, is what is happening to DayZ... a "random" mix of "pseudo realism" and pure arcade... with many defects, from the smallest and "harmless" to the largest and most annoying (and some never fixed). However, in my opinion the real problems to fix first are many others... (vehicles, scammers, glitches and bugs, everything that concerns the "real" topic of the game: survival [better bases, skin constructions, greater permissiveness to fences and tents, etc...]). And while I'm at it, lowering the slots on clothes (in the name of realism), without "compensating" with an equal increase in slots on vests and backpacks, was a stupid and absurd imbalance... which perfectly outlines what the programmers care about (and how much they actually play) about this game... I really don't understand what's really going on in the heads of those who manage (and modify) this game, it almost seems like they're trying to ruin it on purpose, patch after patch. And don't tell me that these programmers play it even 10 minutes a day... when I still know so many Zs with glitched hats inside their heads! It's NOT possible that they don't see it, it just means that: either they never play it (they write and distribute it haphazardly) or they don't care about the quality of the game. Contest me on this, if you have valid arguments... 🙁
