Some months back I was a regular on a public server that seemed too good to be true. There was on it a small but slowly growing population of players who all seemed willing to work together. Must have been a new server because there were several helicopters available and the goal of most regulars became the repair and operation of those aircraft. Myself, I had found and repaired a white Skoda, and in the spirit of cooperation started a taxi service up and down the east coast and from the coast to Kamenka. All was going great on a daily basis. The six or so other regulars who logged in every day were busy fixing two helicopters on Skalisty, and I was taxiing them to various industrial spawns for parts, as well as driving new spawns around. A medic player I had met on another server also became a regular, and it turned out he was one heck of a pilot in the An-2. So he decided to start an "airbus" service which began at Balota airfield and transported players to NWAF and other points north. One day when my Taxi business was slow I agreed to pull overwatch for the medic/pilot at Balota AF since some bandit clan members had recently stirred up a bit of excitement around Cherno, wantonly shooting at all moving vehicles. So I was perched prone on the air control tower while the medic/pilot fueled his plane and loaded passengers. All went well, I had yet to fire at another player with my M16 ACOG and was getting somewhat bored with the duty. The pilot/medic was loading up his last group of passengers for the day - all regulars I thought I knew well enough - when one of them shot some part of the An-2 and caused both myself and the pilot and everyone else to panic a bit. So the pilot orders everyone aboard the plane, starts her up and they take off from Balota. A few seconds later I see the pilot and all the passengers bail out at about two hundred feet, and the plane explodes. The teamspeak explodes as well with the chatter of accusations as the survivors float to the ground. One of the regulars to the server comes running out of a hangar, pointing an assault rifle toward the survivors. I get down to ground level, draw my PDW and open up on him as I had assumed he was the one who shot down the plane. I kill him, and think that I have done right but then he respawns nearby and starts lighting up teamspeak about how some idiot betrayed him and shot him in the back. Long story shorter, there had been some kind of misunderstanding on when the plane was supposed to take off and the two newer regulars to the server who were supposed to get a ride on the plane thought they were getting shafted and so shot at it when it took off to supposedly let the pilot know they were there. I had ended up killing an innocent player, and from that point on, no one trusted anyone else and all the regulars becam killers on sight. So in a way, my own paranoia ended my stay on that server as all trust between the regulars was gone. -

Deadly Gaming Presents its first Epoch server! 198.154.117.4:2302 DayZ Epoch is a modification of DayZ set in a future time after the Great Infection. Humanity is slowly returning to the wasteland, industrious survivors have begun to join together in small groups and rebuild society. Merchants have started to pop up to do business with survivors who collect goods from the wasted remnants of civilization. Wholesalers have landed, offering imported goods to aid the rebuilding effort. All is not safe however some vestiges of infection still remain and rogue bandits still roam the countryside preying on unsuspecting survivors. Survive, explore, build wealth, make your way through the harsh environment and assist in the effort to rebuild, or burn it all down its your choice, live in the Epoch. FEATURES!! Kill Message Board - Each Trader City contains a Kill Message Board that lists all the kills/deaths in the server since the last restart. Crafting System - Ability to craft certain items Smelting System - Ability to smelt certain metals from readily available materials Currency System - Gold, Silver, Copper, Tin and Aluminum Bars Dynamic Road Debris System - DayZ debris system replaced by random vehicle wrecks and debris that spawn on roads with loot. Features Military/Bandit NPC's - Our soldiers and bandits are no joke. They are some of the hardest to kill in the game. They drive tanks, they fly choppers, so Stay Frosty! Also trees aren't always the best protection for stashing vehicles, they can still be seen from the sky. Use the landshape too, a chopper can easily miss a vehicle that is parked at the foot of a hill with a few trees. I like to stash within woodland mostly yes but I won't go for the dense bit, I will go for something easily overlooked. Also use buildings in villages that aren't really popular, big brown barns, red barns that have overhangs even just tucked up between buildings in villages that are crap for loot. -
Searching for a new server where to stay without any problem? Why not us? We currently have secret military bases around in the map, 150 vehicles (I think this could be nice, vehicles would be considered more rare and wont be wasted and in my honest opinion there's more competition), Auto-Refuel and Self-BloodBag. Veteran, Day/night cycle with Greenwich Mean Time +1 (Italy/Sweden/Germany/Norway time). We also have events, they will always change, you can find them on our forums at www dot chernarus dot tk. We are new and even if our community was born in 2012, we are searching active staff for our server, possibly from all over the world (we need to keep the server monitored againts hackers). We have a custom anti-hack based on many hacks where our "spies" have accounts in, so we tested our anti-hack and it's very good, always finds gear-spawning and teleporting instantly, while 68% of ESPers are often caught. We don't have donator perks beacuse we don't like unrealistic stats modifications, but donations are appreciated to keep the server up. So, we pretty much have anything you need (we are also taking very seriously user suggestions and feedbacks), we need only one thing: You. You all are appreciated at 46.165.221.97:2332 P.S:We don't have proper rules beside of "Don't hack" and "Don't Insult", but just use common sense. Voice in side chat is allowed as everyone agrees with listening to you and you're not spamming/making annoying sounds. Also, I'm the only admin and I'm not like most of the other private hives where they cheat/see the vehicles positions in the databse. Well, actualyl we do track vehicles and player tracks for security reasons, it's part of our antihack, but we don't asbuse this information. Hope to see you in-game. -Ludovico

We have just set up a 50 man Chernarus server and are looking for players to fill it. All the admins are friendly and always happy to help. Oh, and don't worry about any admin grief, you wont be banned for killing the admins on this server. After all, you do what you have to, to survive. We are going to try and keep this server quite purist and concentrate on the survival aspect of DayZ. So the only extras we have in, is: Auto-refuel and scavenge parts for vehicles, there are 250+ of those on the server to save you little legs Server IP - 185.2.138.92:3102 Big thanks to dayzmod.com for giving us this platform to get our server known. Noob question, Server restart/Out of vehicles

it depends if the server is set to wipe vehicles, on mine I have only wiped vehicles twice since november. Once after a hacker, once after going private (obviously everything has to start again) All I do is clean up destroyed/out of bounds vehicles and create more new vehicles for next server restart. All other vehicles stay. -

Hey Day Z players! so to start of, I am kinda new to DayZ/ArmA 2, So here is the story, hope you enjoy :D So i was looking on the DayZ commander and i found this server with 1000+ vehicles. So i added to favorites and joined, When i joined i wrote in the chat if someone could pick me up with a chopper and i got picked up :D later on i didn't had a destination so we where just flying over the map and then i got kicked idk why lol And later on i joined again and i saw 2 ospreys flying low and 1 landed and i got in the osprey and he took me the the airfield, So when i was on the airfield I saw like 20 Jets, 3 Helli's, and Humvees!!! And 1 person (his name was stealth idk know how to add him as a friend :D) asked if someone could pick him up. So i said, I will pick you up. And i didn't know what aircraft to pick and i did go for a Big Russian Jet, and i was on my way to find a Helli to pick him up but I didn't had success... So the Server was restarting and after that i got back into my jet and i flew to another airport.. But on my way to the airport i found this spot called: Castle or something, And i Saw those 2 Ospreys! so i returned ejected and took an osprey But it didn't had much fuel so i took of and they tried to Shoot me. but i could take of without being killed. After that they traced me i wrote in the chat ''Stealth place a marker on the map and i pick you up'' So he placed a marker and i tried to land But then, the osprey came and landed and tried shooting me again so i took off, no success Picking Stealth up, so after a few minutes tracing they lost me And i went back to the airfield and tried finding a fuel tank. But no success Again! so i wrote in the chat ''You get fuel and i can pick you up'' i had like 10% fuel but i managed to get from the airfield to elektro.. So then i landed on the marker he placed on the map. But he was a couple of hundred meters away so i had like 3% fuel there, and i tried to get to the new marker he placed on the map but, A huge fail on on my way there, *Where i landed first Someone got In* And there were like 3 people on the ground saying *CAN I GET A PICKUP?**Dude i am in front of you!* and i tried landing because i had 1% fuel and i run out of fuel and i was to high from the ground and i crashed! And when i was laying on the ground the people who where on the ground ran away and 1 player was kind enough to wait for me, and i stood up but my blood was dropping like hell! and i only could walk a few meters and i Died then i wrote ''Dead!'' then i disconnected i Was trying to be a hero and give people a ride and help them out. Thats it is how it ended, I think i Died like a HERO!(hope so :P) decide if i was a good player or Not.. would be fun if i could hear other player's opinions Thanks for reading, i just felt like i Need To Share This with you guyZ :D Greets, LikeAGTR34 *newbie* -

Sure, that depend how much and what material you have to work with...lots of stuff recorded withing in a week, pictures taken etc... one hour wont cut it for a even superhuman.. (well sure you can, but how watchable it is, and logical..) Then there is the time question, not maybe the compiling part but how much it have taken away from the actual development if you ie interview some designers and stuff middle of their work etc etc etc... If development takes lets say 1 year, and you make dev plogs and stuff the whole time, how much time is wasted from that year to keep us in our pants... even with that, they can hear the crying but from differend people this time. Moving on.. Was yesterday playing TOH(again) and started thinking that they should take everything from it (veteran dificulty) and port it to dayz. Also they should remove the stupid repair system of dayz mod(for all vehicles), and you should do your own troubleshooting if the heli(in this case) wont start. When doing the startup proceduress and power wont come on?, starters wont engage?, turbines wont stay running/cuts out when trying to go full throttle?... etc etc etc Same with visual inspection that is introduced in TOH.. even it should be brought to another level without the automatic checkup, but that person should have to use his own eyes.. You should really check for damage... rather than scroll menu showing your broken parts highlighted with red.. -

I think that DayZ mods have done a decent job of including camo nets, but they only reproduce the models in ARMA. Which are large, non-formfitting, and easy to be run-over. Not to mention construction mechanics like that are unreliable as it stands. I'd love to see it akin to a deployable item on individual vehicles. And, I think this is perhaps the laziest solution to the problems with having poorly depicted landscapes. But it solves the problems of concealment from the other way around, which is acceptable. -
Am I the only person that really doesn't care for 'base building'?

Too persistent. I'd be all for it if there was a way to prevent people from using the base after they'd been killed. Being able to respawn, report to base and be restored to 100% of what you were takes so much more away than it contributes. It gives you a sense of accomplishment and cooperative goals, yes, but it takes all the survival out of the game. Look at Don't Starve. You survive, you collect, you craft, you build, you achieve, and you get a real sense of satisfaction out of what you're doing and making and becoming. If you die, though, then you're all the way back to square one, and you start over. If you could respawn infinitely in that game, then 90% of gameplay would be making fancier and fancier floor plans for your next palace, not trying to stay alive. In a multiplayer game like DayZ, permadeath isn't an option. You can't very well ban players from the server when they die, and you can't make the player forget where their tent/car/corpse is, so they get to keep their gear and loot unless someone willfully destroys it. This effect is magnified by cooperation. Your squad is never diminished (except temporarily) by casualties, so if you have four or five dudes rolling together, you'll never need to recruit or cooperate with anyone else, since you're all immortal. As long as you hold the field after every serious fight, even an 80% casualty rate results in all of you being healthy and equipped again in a couple minutes, plus whatever loot you get from the guys you defeated. Base building will compound this basic problem with the game, and I'm against it for that reason. Survival is meaningless if you cannot fail to survive. As it stands, the only things people are afraid to lose are ghillie suits, because they're tough to farm and can't be reclaimed. Guns can be scooped off corpses, vehicles can be camped and regained (especially if you're the only group who know that helicopter is due for a respawn) and food/drink/medicine can be stockpiled in vast quantities. As a result, squad play is anathema to DayZ. It's inherently antisocial in the game world, it renders DayZ's challenges (zombies, looting, survival) utterly trivial, and it's boring enough that you eventually amuse yourselves either by hoarding finite resources (vehicles, chopper crash loot) or by griefing less organized survivors (who are seeking a more honest DayZ experience). Both of these activities impoverish the server, either by denying gameplay (toast a car once a day, you'll always have a reason to hunt for tires. Hide it in the woods and nobody has anything to do except look for your camp) or by actively inconveniencing survivors who are trying to survive without the benefit of a platoon's worth of eyes and rifles. The only way to really hurt serious clan players is to smash their tents and hide their bodies before their buddies wipe you out. Having a base that rewards and encourages small groups with out-of-game comms and implicit trust will, well, reward and encourage that style of play, further disenfranchising less organized players and the organic, noteworthy experiences they have in the game. The clans will get an even stronger foothold and will proliferate and choke out the weaker organisms, and then it'll just be slow Wasteland. If you want squad vs. squad combat in Arma2 with high-quality weapons, you can do better than DayZ. If anything, I'd like to discourage and punish serious, fireteam-level play. Have a system that detects badass commandos and directs zombies or reduces food and ammo spawn rates when they're rolling in a pack. If you have five bandits with M24s and Mk48s and M4 SDs, then you've got to get the stuff you want from killing people and taking it. Anyway, rant over, bases are cool sometimes, but not in DayZ. -
Good evening everyone. My wife, friend and I have started a new Taviana server, and would love for new players of all skill levels to join us in our epic struggle with zombies and bandits. The server is a little under a week old, and so far is 24/7 day (which is going to change to a 1 or 2 hour night cycle with full moon), a debug menu, a few custom buildings (with more to come) and an admin base ripe for the looting. At any time we have anywhere between 150-500 vehicles, with 10-15 helis/planes. Because the server is so new, we are taking all suggestions into consideration, and do plan to try to add base building soon. I will also help the first ten players to message me in game and provide them with a tent and a weapon of their choice (no DMRs or AS50s though, you'll have to find them yourself). We're very active admins, and protect our server with battleye, gotcha and constant review of the scripts. We are dedicated to making this the best server we can, and hope to find a good base of players to make their homes here for lots of good times. Am I the only person that really doesn't care for 'base building'?

The thing about base building in the mod that i dont like is that its not a necessity and its only to stockpile guns and vehicles. I think it would be a cool idea if you had to set up camp before you logged out for a long period of time. This would include a tent or a bed or sleeping bag or something similar. It feels weird to me that i can log out for a week IRL and come back to my character still being alive. If you needed to log out at a camp it would add importance to making a base and also give you a sense of having a real home to go back to at the end of every playing session. However DayZ is a game and this might be too much and there are probably better ways to accomplish base building -

The foliage thing could be done in a few different ways, adding more is one. Beefing up the current trees is another. Making ATOC consistent across all players is another as well. However, my thoughts were more lingering around a "camo net" that could be tweaked to suit different environments to cover vehicles and/or tents. When they roll the vehicle customization out for the SA, I would hope they'd allow for players to essentially attach bushes to their (ground) vehicles to disrupt the outline in place of armor plating or somesuch. There are many solutions to this problem. I more meant ecosystem as just an archetypal landscape, rather than the scientific definition of living organisms living with flora, etc. Perhaps biosphere or some other analog would be a better thing. I think the scarcity of animal life is a great thing, though it would be nice to see more animals than just boars and rabbits in the woods. Chernarus may have been based on satellite imagery, but that does not mean that it is a wholesome picture of what is on the ground. In 2009, publicly available high-quality satellite imagery was just breaking onto the scene, so I am curious as to the level of detail in the original Chernarus imagery. Furthermore, for instance, when I look at imagery of my own rural area on Google Earth in 2013... The canopy of the forests masks many small creeks, gorges, cliffs, ditches, that I know to be part of the landscape. What is evident to me, is that yes... they did use satellite imagery. But it did not end up translating into a detailed forest environment. It's essentially a textured smooth heightmap with trees on it. And also, as an aside, I'm merely outlining a problem and not assessing the likelihood that it will be fixed. -

Been saying this since I can remember. Should extend to vehicles as well. Having past life knowledge does more harm than good in my opinion. The biggest of which is hoarding. I know folks can whine that "but im still alive so i should not loose my precious just cuz that idiot got himself killed." It is a valid whine i suppose but i say ... GET YOUR OWN FREAKIN TENT/VEHICLE. Perhaps the disease system in the stand alone will address this but on its own it may not be enough. Unless hoarding is controlled the game will loose its identity as a "survival" game. -

Helicopters won't be in the game until much later this year it seems, so perhaps by then some changes may have been made to the density of the foliage. I doubt it's a priority though, since they'll probably want vehicles out as soon as they're ready rather than changing minor things like trees. And as for an ecosystem...I would keep expectations very low. They are adding new animals with all new animations though, which will be neat for those who wish to live in the wilderness. Since the Chernarus map is based on satellite data of an actual location I'm pretty sure that the variety of terrain is accurate, except for rivers inland, but Rocket has discussed that rivers are very difficult to create on this engine. New satellite data has been purchased for the SA so the overall quality of the map should improve though. -
