What are your reasons for choosing a Private Hive?
klesh replied to klesh's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Ahh ghosting, and server hopping. I should've added those. Thanks! -
No DayZ for 8 months, few quick Q's
Mos1ey replied to [email protected]'s topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The main hive is still, well, the main hive. Most of the duping exploits have been taken care of but (although I haven't seen one myself for a long time now) there are still cheaters around. I'm not sure what you don't like about playing on a single server though, it makes a lot of other exploits (server hopping, ghosting etc.) impossible and IMO actually improves the overall experience. -

Panda I would like to make a report. Details Location: Electro hospital roof Player: VICEY Subject: Ghosting/server hopping Time: 13:25 Attachment: screensots Player VICEY is a server hopper. I killed him in Electro school from the top of the hospital. He returned in 10-15 mins, came up to me, lay down and disconnected. In 1 min I saw him climbing on my ladder and could manage it (got his burst as well but alive). Please see attached pictures below. He defenitely changed server to get his stupid revenge. You can clearly read it in logs. -

1. GeorgeFatality 2. Poland 3. d8752316716c79b5798235c6c33dc819 4. I really want to play on your hackers free server! I was playing DayZ for like 2 months but I quit because no free time. I was playing alone but now I'm back and my brother want to join me (he never played DayZ before - he will write to you tonight probably and ask if he can join). I played bandit mostly... loner bandit. Why your sever? Everybody says your community is great. I want to start play so much so please give me a chance :) I hate hackers, combat loggers and ghosting. Some questions: 1. How many servers you run? Where can I find info about them? 2. Have you got any private forum or website? Would be great! 3. Is ghosting allowed?? You know... that thing when u logout at server A the login server B to change position and then go back to A... this is lame, I hate this. Waiting for your reply! Thanks ;* -
What is Your First Instinctive Reaction When Spotting a Player?
SmashT replied to DemonGroover's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Play the "ghosting" game. (Not to be confused with ghosting between servers) Try and get as close as possible to them without them noticing, you win by taking things out of their backpack and getting away undetected. Bonus points if you manage to give them a ninja bloodbag.- 111 replies

I'm just going to lay it on you. Action keys. Best idea the standalone will ever have. Right now arma 2 doesn't feel as solid a game as I'd like it to be, with every damn AI in the game ghosting in and out of structure with absolutely zero fucks given about physics. firstly that needs to be fixed. NEEDS TO! before I loose it with this game. Not just that either, its when those AI don't even give a fuck about your sandbags and just walk right through it while you prance over like a reindeer, and you know what could fix that? an action button for fences, ladders, mounting on top of cars, doors and ducking under low hanging pipes or things of that sort. I'm not going to explain what this could fix because that would be a massive eyesore I also bring to your attention different environments and biomes such as Aquatic, Deserts, Forests, Grasslands, Tundras, sparse buildings and signs of civilization leading all the way to dense cities 50km2. It makes for an interesting variety of scenarios which would help to kill any boredom anyone happens to stumble upon in this game. You've already got 1 million players that are certain to buy it regardless of quality so the choice is up to you I suppose. Just sharing Ideas, Take or leave them, I don't mind.

Sounds very confusing. Server logs should clarify what happened (log, ghosting after?). Give Panda some time to sort it out tomorrow. He should be asleep. -
Vanilla or Modded?
NonovUrbizniz (DayZ) replied to Pyro_Marine's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
I like no one else setting up any more servers lol... there are soooo many at this point. Any experience you want is already hosted by someone else and there is an existing population playing on that server... I think if people spent half as much time finding good servers with good hosts/admins as they did figuring out stuff about hosting their own server we'd have a MUCH more active and vibrant community. To answer your question directly, I like BOTH... when the public hive life become too stressful or I'm overly emotionally invested I play on private hives, depending on my mood I will play a survival one or two or PvP 10million cars one... they are both fun in their own ways and neither one is "the right way"... Between the varience in maps, hosts, servers, public/private, starting kit, vehicle persistance etc etc etc you can get any experience out of this mod you want... I have characters in different stages of development on like 20 different servers/maps... THAT is the true value in a private hive IMO... the ability to have multiple "lives" in multiple maps or the same map.... the removal of the ghosting ability is a big plus on private hives too... but other than that if you're going to go vanilla I say go public. What's the point of slightly modding what is already a fantastic game on it's own... and you DRASTICALLY increase your audience when it's a public hive... I've swapped maps on my 2nd server 2-3 times this month to see what gets played more... the long and short of it as far as I can tell is that frankly there are too many private hives right now and no matter how good your server is it's likely not going to get a lot of players or a solid base community for AT LEAST 2-3 months... at which point stand alone will be out... are you going to keep paying to host a mod server at that point??? -
They finally got it right with dayz+, what do you think? (POLL)
ManiacMike69 replied to thelonewarrior's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Sounds good..but with zombies ghosting through walls and shit and the way they move it sounds dog crap. I'm not gonna spend days getting good gear to have a zombie glitch through something and kill me with no fault of my own -
IP, 203.161.131.150:3302 No evidence, but posting this thread in light that the admins of this server get online asap as there is currently players dropping loot boxes, spawning vehicles and ghosting. This started to occur around 2pm NZ time. The server will likely need a roll back. I advise players to avoid this server like the plague.

4th Special Forces Group (4SFG) - MilSim Unit NOW RECRUITING FOR OUR DAYZ DIVISION Do you have the mind set to handle Teamwork and Tactics? Can you maintain Discipline and Respect? Do you think you have what it takes? Then the 4th Special Forces Group is exactly what you are looking for. We are not a realism unit. We are a Military Simulation Unit. Our training system is ran and taught by actual Combat Veterans that have served in the military at home and overseas. Not only do we have U.S. Vets, we also have U.K. Vets and other Vets from across the World. We also have currently serving members of the military. Our unit currently has 3 sections, however we are all part of 4th SFG. Each performs a certain task that works in unison with the other sections. These Include: 160th SOAR Rotary Wing Assets used for transport of troops, equipment, and Close Air Support. Also, features Fixed Wing Assets for Close Air Support and Troop Insertions. SFOD-A/B Special Forces Detachment: Open to SGTs (E-5) and above. Providing Asset and Strategic Demolition, Intelligence and Recon, and HVT Neutralization and Extraction. A Few of Our Many Features: Veteran's Program: We give back to our Veterans for their sacrifices to their countries. We check a sanitized DD-214 for entry into the Veteran's Program. After completion of Basic Combat Training, Veterans will be implemented into the unit as a Specialist (E-4). Veteran's Experience: As mentioned earlier, the 4th Special Forces Group has many Veterans/Active Duty among the ranks, who contribute from their personal experience towards Trainings, Tactics, Discipline and other Attributes. This makes the unit the creditable MilSim unit that it is today. The 4th Special Forces Group: Requirements for Applicants are as follows: The following rules and regulations are in effect at all times. These rules are not flexible or negotiable in any way. 4th SFG members are required to abide by all rules and regulations at all times. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action, up to and including dishonorable discharge from the unit. 1. Real life comes first. Many of our members are parents, have jobs, and in some cases serve in the military on active duty. Real life will always take precedence over gaming or unit business. We will tolerate no disrespect towards a member that has to stop what they are doing to attend to real world matters. 2. Discipline and professionalism is required at all times. This is required on all 4th SFG servers as well as in any other server, public or otherwise. 3. All members are required to maintain proper rank discipline at all times, in all forms of communication. This courtesy will also be extended to members of allied clans. 4. Insubordination and disrespect are not tolerated in any way, shape, or form, regardless of the situation. All members are required to conduct themselves in a professional and disciplined manner at all times, in all forms of communication. 5. While participating in a match in game, regardless of the situation, all members will maintain a professional and disciplined demeanor. It does not matter if an opposing player is cheating, hacking, or behaving in a rude or disrespectful manner. Our soldiers will not stoop to their level. 6. Dishonest game play is completely unacceptable, and will result in an immediate dishonorable discharge, as well as a ban from all 4th SFG servers. Dishonest game play includes, but is not limited to hacking, ghosting, comms ghosting, glitching, or abuse of any other game mechanic for personal gain. We have zero tolerance for dishonesty from our members and on our servers. 7. While in game, all members will refrain from unprofessional communications of all varieties. If there is an issue, the highest ranking NCO or Officer present will handle that issue. Under no circumstances will a 4th SFG member participate in an argument in game chat. If the situation can not be resolved peacefully by the OIC or NCOIC, all 4th SFG members will exit the server in question in a quiet and professional manner. 8. You are required to have the following programs installed: DayZ-Stand Alone , Teamspeak 3 9. We require a minimum age of 16 for membership in the 4th Special Forces Group. We do not discriminate on the basis of gender, nationality, ethnicity, religious preference, or any other criteria, and will not tolerate any type of discrimination from our members. We are more than a unit, We are a brotherhood. British Sergeants' Mess - [BSM] **Fully Admin'd** & Whitelisted - TAVIANA.COM
sgttrojan replied to sgttrojan's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Pros and cons of whitelisting. Pros. Tighter community Increased collaboration between whitelist members. Access totally under admin control Hackers are less likely to enrol but there is still a risk of known players hacking. Cons Harder to develop a community from new joiners. Everyone is friends thus eratidicating bandit element. Sharing a TS channel creates an issue when wannabe bandits and friendlies are together/ ghosting, etc. This itself threatens the community development. I have seen the player count decline on another server when whitelisting was added. Although one could argue that quality is better than quantity we have to remember that DayZ can be brutal. The fact that more danger is present enhances the very experience and enjoyment. That feeling. It comes when you see an unknown. It comes when you coordinate an attack against another group or bandit. A server of friends is an ideal but the enjoyment/ risk element is reduced because of it. You lose a large percentage of that by adding whitelisting. -
Yes. I used to play on a private hive that had three servers running off of it, no idea how they done it though. They shut it down eventually because of the usual loot farming/ghosting rubbish though.

Wow, this thread has really taken off. Anyway, i'll address some of your sayings w/o quotes because my phone doesn't like it and I'm riding passenger on the interstate. The main thing is that I love private hives. Not only does it prevent people who get AS50s on an empty server from joining in, but it prevents ghosting as well. Also, PHs are usually more secure, faster, and more community oriented. I spent an hour joining over 30+ servers and they all had vehicles or custom loadouts that just made it stupid. For my accomplishment in DayZ, all I want is a clean, organized camp with 1 vehicle and a collection of CZs, Winchesters, Enfields and double barrels. Then I go hunt bandits and be a medic. I haven't had a hacker pop up in a long time. A month or two, actually. Even so, once I die, my camp, vehicles, and gear are left to the buzzards. I don't retrieve them under any circumstance, unless its NVGs because there's just no finding those. So hackers destroying my work isn't a big concern. I like how I operate and never have a proem with doing it because starting over is fun. I often kill myself because I don't like the way I got my gear or the game played out, just because. I don't want everyone to play like this, but keep respectable distance. I mean, I spent 2 days up and down the coast and inside Chernarus trying to find a vehicle, and did not even find a bike. Now you go in and see a working GAZ on a red carpet? Work for it. This game is about reward and consequence, as well as what I said in the OP. So I'll be starting a thread soon about playing on some good private hives for some maps that I know are good, and I'll link it here when it's up. It'll be like a community thread, so we can all agree to play on these certain servers so they aren't so empty. We won't play together, just on the same servers, unless you want to. This way all the pro-hardcore players can have a fun little community to battle with. If anyone starts this thread I'm talking about I will stalk you ingame so hard you will never want to play again. This is my thread idea and please respect that I can't get it up yet but i will when I can. See you all soon, on the real proving grounds.

Day Z Standalone:preventing farming and ghosting
Tooka (DayZ) posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Farming is one of Day Zs biggest problems along with Hacking, excessive banditry and ghosting. The most used method of farming is going to some place like the airfield searching it then switching servers and doing it over again. Here are my ideas to fix this: 1. Make characters bound to servers. When you create a new character you would be allowed to choose any server..but it would be permanent for that character. I imagine most people will hate this idea because of the negatives that come with it..But it would work!! If you have a friend that you want to play with on another server, you would have to create a new character which isn't that bad. If your server is full, you are basically screwed, But theres always the possibility of overflow servers like Guild Wars 2 has. Besides, The standalone has already been optimized for performance, so it probably has a higher server capacity than the mod. This depends on how many players the map was designed for though. I like this idea because it would terminate this form of farming for sure. It would also eliminate those noobs that leave the server to get behind a player, rejoin, and shoot them in the back(Ghosting as they call it). When construction is added, people won't be able to ghost into a base either. It kills three birds with one stone. 2. My second idea is to put a lockout timer on Server transfers. It should be at least a day so people can't abuse it. It would take effect right after you transfer. This of course means the die hard farmers can still cheese farm once a day, which is why I don't like it as much. But, it would get rid of ghosters partially and still allow you to transfer if you'd like. I say partially because theres still the possibility of someone server hopping and loading in right behind a player for an easy kill. Once construction is in the game it will become an issue because you could scout someones base and hop in there the next day to loot it. Let me know which one you like best! Thank you for reading. :D -
Clips, Magazines, CLIPAZINES
Happymrsnowman replied to Happymrsnowman's topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
I think the way sniper rifles are currently set up, they're very rare, and the ammo isn't much better. The CZ-550 is a bastard to actually locate, and while its ammo isn't horribly rare, for the rarer rifles, their mags are already very very rare. I think if duping was fixed and ghosting/farming wasn't an option, then sniper rifles wouldn't be considered OP since there would be less of them. If you think about how often you ACTUALLY come across a true sniper rifle its not that often. -
That's what I had in mind. The zone would apply to the biggest player hot-spots, of course. No need for that on secluded farmhouses. And I completely agree, Shadow Man, and I dearly hope we get to see that in standalone. Still unclear how this would hurt bambis. Everyone would be subject to this, and I can only see the high-geared players who combat-log or ghost while assaulting an important location being affected. As for picking up where you left off. Cities are meant to be dangerous, I believe. I hope. Woods would be the ideal location to camp for the night, not in a city, however safe the building. I hope in standalone cities turn into the very pits of hell, but still a viable source for loot. The inconvenience of not being able to log out in a city is trumped by the inconvenience caused by ghosting, combat-logging and ninja-snipers. Avoiding confrontations in this game by logging out, whether or not the other survivors in question are friendly or not, is still combat-logging in my eyes. I imagine the atmosphere of a game where you suddenly hear footsteps, and don't know whether or not you're going to die. You hide, in a panicky haste, and waste for the footsteps to recede. And then there's you: Logs out in case it turns dangerous. Kind of takes something out of the game, if you ask me.
-
for ghosting, i think its possible to log players which server they played last right? if they decide to ghost, disconnects, find another server, goes back in to previous server and finds out he have to wait 3 hours to go back to that server again or higher and if some smart ass happens to have a friend on another server and asked for help to hit him from behind, there should be a random teleport if in case you spawn near the player radius and teleports you outside the radius around 800m would suffice i think. there should be a notification that your spawning too close to a player and will be teleported. if you choose to accept then.... Combat log should be longer so that the attacker to have enough time to manuever assault tactics and not rush towards the target and get killed in the process. in addition to ghosting, in order for server to identify potential players being flagged is that they already logged in and logged out of server, joined another server and comes back too quickly from the previous server, like within 30 minutes. then you are flaged as ghosting and will be able to connect to previous server in few hours. basicly idea is there. Logically. Any better ideas?
-
I like the idea. Combat logging and ghosting are the two most unrealistic events to happen. The fact that you can have a building or a base completely secure and a player can just materialise inside is utterly rediculous. The only drawbacks I can think of are that in the event of losing connection you would pay heavily (happens maybe once a week to me). Unless the server can make the decision based on how a disconnection happens. Also, how far does this region need to extend? Whats the maximum distance a sniper can sit from Cherno or Elektro and still shoot at people? This means either a huge area of log restriction, or a very irregular shape of log restrition based on line of sight. You could have to run 1000m to get out of the no-log zone.
-
It would be nice if you could build proper settlements with a perimeter that would keep people from ghosting inside. E.g. you try to log in there and just get moved to the outside of the perimeter. Maybe manage who can come inside with a password entry like a POS in EVE? Not sure how doable that would be but it's an idea.
-
Aside from locking your survivor to one server, this is the only thing I can think of that would prevent ghosting. Foreword: This isn't a suggestion pertaining to PvP zones, or anything like it. If anything, I hope this feature could make the game seem more authentic (keep reading to find out how) and reduce combat-logging and exploiting. I'm perfectly aware that some of the problems this feature would attempt to eliminate would still occur-- but it would occur significantly less. I'd also like to mention that while I found a few suggestions similar to this, I don't think they had quite the same aim. The Suggestion: Create zones surrounding all cities, buildings, potential fortresses, castles and other player hot-spots that disable the abort function. This would also extend to outlying lands surrounding such areas, and not just immediately inside them, so potential attackers/snipers won't be at an advantage (ie, capable to combat-log themselves, while their prey cannot.) Anyone with the cowardice to abort in combat because they think they've been spotted would have to leave the area. For example: I'm sitting atop sniper hill in Elektro, shooting people inside. In the case of the attacker/defender (fortress, such as Orlovets factory) or sniper/snipee (Elektro, Cherno) scenarios, this feature would thusly: Disallow players inside of Elektro to escape their imminent deaths by simply hiding in a building and aborting. The current combat-log preventative feature would have snipers shoot every thirty seconds or so, even when their target is hiding, to restart the timer. That's unfair to the sniper, who would otherwise have no reason to keep shooting at the dirt, wasting ammo, pulling aggro, and revealing his position. Disallow the sniper, thinking he's been spotted, from simply logging out and ghosting in on another server. He would have to leave the area if spotted to log out, and return if he wants to set up another sniper nest. Disallow ghosting by the attackers, in the case of a group defending a base or fortress they've taken over, such as the factory near Orlovets. Disallow combat-logging by said defenders. Another issue this feature would address is dying while in the loading screen. I'll explain with an anecdote. I was in the Vybor supermarket, alone, looting. I suddenly realized that there was a survivor in a ghillie suit and an M14 AIM standing in the corner, his gun pointed at me. I immediately shot him, knowing fully well he had just logged in, but fearful for my life. I realized how unfair it was that he'd have to die because of such a mishap (he wasn't ghosting, he'd just chosen a dumb stop to abort.) Now, obviously this will eliminate ghosting, to a certain extent. The same thing happened to me atop Devil's Castle, where a survivor magically appeared in front of me, even as my teammates were guarding the stairwell, and I shot and killed him. One would argue that that survivor deserved to die, and that we shouldn't cater to stupidity. But would have happened if he shot me first? That wouldn't have been fair, since I canvased the whole supermarket and was keeping an eye on both doors. If I hadn't happened to turn around, I probably would have died because of some ninja that appeared out of thin-air. That's hardly fair, even the other hardcore players would agree. I would suggest not making the areas it is possible to log out in being mapped, as that would surely be exploited. This feature would also work best if the flashing indicator (pistol) was removed altogether. In anticipation of a few arguments against the implementation of this feature: Attackers will not have the added advantage of being able to abort just because they haven't been spotted from their sniper nest. The outlying areas of a fortress will be included in the non-abort zone. "People can still ghost in the woods!" "The supermarket thing could happen anywhere, even in the woods!" It's less likely to happen there, and even so, you should always be cautious when you're not surrounded by four walls. Threats can appear from anywhere, not just the entrances. "omfg stop whinin u just hate sniprs theyre realistic to the game and your just hating geting sniped becaus your not good enough to get ur own sniper peopl like you want to make the game so easy its hardcor dude deal with it" This suggestion doesn't aim to eliminate sniping, even on the coast. I just think snipers should actually have to move into position, unseen, if they want to do so. They shouldn't have the ability to just materialize out of thin air. The fear of a bullet braining me from half a mile away is one I dearly enjoy, Let's just make snipers use real caution in avoiding detection while getting in and out of position. "you think it is almost time to quit anyway and you hear potential player chatter/footsteps and want to avoid confrontation, also this idea would make the big cities potential death traps for survivors against bandits, run into a bandit ambush, no way out"If you play like this, you should find another game. Aborting to avoid confrontations or escape confrontations is pathetic.

To anyone who plays on these servers, this may be of interest to you. I have been playing DayZ since it was first released. I experienced the golden period when there was no cheating and the game was actually about survival and not deathmatch. Since then, as you all know, it has descended into a comedic farce of cheating, trolling and pure PvP. I had grown very tired of the cheating and sought refuge on a whitelist only, private hive server called Balota Buddies. It was previously public, but as the cheating became epidemic it became a whitelist only group of servers. Sick of being killed by cheaters, I applied and was whitelisted. I liked the Namalsk map and was playing on that a fair bit when this incident happened. http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/topic/105209-i-would-really-appreciate-some-suggestions-as-to-what-could-have-happened/ Needless to say this left a very bad taste in my mouth. As it turns out, I did not get banned and one of the players from the group I killed, joined my channel on teamspeak and apologised for accusing me of cheating as he had reviewed his fraps footage. At this point I should mention that one of the people in the group I killed was an admin. I never heard anything from this admin after this incident. Two of my friends decided to apply for whitelisting and were accepted. One of them, during the teamspeak "interview" was asked who he played with and he mentioned my name. The admin then told him I was on their watch list for "ghosting". I had no idea what this was until my friend told me that it is "listening in to other peoples teamspeak channels to know where they are and what they're doing, to kill them". I have never done anything like that at all, ever. Surely there are teamspeak logs that admins can check to see channel switches. This really ruffled my feathers. Twice from the same group of people I had my integrity called into question and accusations hurled, with no evidence. I began to play less and less on their servers due to my disdain with their conduct. Finally, last night, my friends and I went to join the server in question as others were full and very laggy, only for me to find that I had been "permanently banned for combat logging". Since the latest patch, you cannot combat log; but that doesn't matter because I _never_ do that. My friends probably won't and I am never going back (I can't obviously) to those servers. Petty and immature administration. tl;dr - killed admin and his group, was threatened with ban for cheating and then vindicated. Then accused of "ghosting" in teamspeak and finally banned for "combat logging" on Balota Buddies servers.
