  1. Hey, here is a full feature list of our Epoch server at CustomCombatGaming.com. Single Currency All traders use gold coins as currency. Gold bars can be smelted at any fire into coins (1oz Gold Bar = 900 Gold Coins). When you die, you will loss the coins on your body and any other player can loot them. Banks As part of the Single Currency system, dotted around the map are banks that allow you to store upto 150,000 gold coins and can be accessed at any other bank. This amount is also saved over death. Shared Hive Inventory, gold coins and bank balance is shared between Cherarus 1, Taviana and Lingor. Building Snapping System http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fEK9BOBMy0 (coming soon) When placing building items, they will snap together making building fit seamlessly. AI Bandit Camps They spawn in random positions each restart, the further up north they are, the hard they will be. Trader Caravans A few small groups of traders spawn randomly around the map, look out for the map markers. Safezones & Backpack Protection When inside the safezones at trader cities, you can no long open any other players backpack. AI Bandit Vehicle Mission Broken rare vehicles protected by bandits spawn around the map. Car Wrecks Car wrecks will spawn on road sides with loot. CCTV System Certain areas around the map are covered by CCTV, access them using the laptops. Helicopter Buses (Lingor/Taviana) A Merlin will land at marked landing zones to ferry players around the map. Weapon Cache Mission, Self Blood Bag, 24/7 Day Light, Vehicle Smoke =P, Many over Epoch improvements... Over 1.8Mb of map additions!

    Smoking Ash Gaming

    great guys, fun server. admins watch players constantly so there is no hacking/combat logging. admin distracted me while sniping and got me killed and he wanted to give me gear and i said nah man its all good. untill i get perma ban from their ts and namalsk server (after about 6 hours of playing today) for "hacking vehicles"..... me and 2 other buddies found busted up hummers all over the map and we fixed the best 3 up and were running people over for about 30 min or so. no asking, messages... i was even in their ts server and they never pulled me down or came up to talk to me just banned. which is why im here, this is the first server i have ever been banned from and for no reason. if it was hacked why would they be around the map in the same places last night and today, or just even after restart. i would like this to be FIXED. edit: you banned 3 but you lost about 7 more people ontop of that 3.

    Dayz Fps and lag

    I'm playing on a c2d 3.16ghz system with 4gb of ram (3.6 since I use winxp) and a 2gb version of 6950 gpu and using high settings with all extras disabled (AA, postprocessing, HDR, etc). On empty servers I usually get 60 FPS (I have vsync enabled), on low pop servers 50 and in full servers it becomes almost unplayable, 30 fps and lots of lag/desync. And I'm not talking about different servers where other factors also should be taken into account. For example, I join a server which is empty at the time and I get 60 FPS, and no lag at all. So I keep playing and more people join, the more people the bigger my FPS drop and lag. With 10 people it's stil ok, with 30 and more it's not. So it's not just you. I'm not sure how exactly the spawning and the whole data exchange thing between clients and the server works, so I can't answer you why this happens from a technical standpoint. Maybe it's the fact that more people = more zeds, more vehicles moving, more loot spawn points, more calculations. Fact is, it does happen to a lot of us, and for me the only viable solution for now is to play on low pop servers so my eyes don't hurt from the bad FPS and zeds don't desync and hit me after I've killed them, or changing from a rifle to a melee weapon takes 30secs.

    Looking for a serious group.

    You're welcome to check out our community, we have several little groups active on our Epoch server. The server is running a very challenging config with a few balanced map additions, AI (not all over the map just common enough for you to be watching your six), balanced trader prices (good stuff costs money - no quick gear ups!), 200+ dynamic vehicle s(none of the military grade armed vehicles spawn dynamically), lots of mixed groups, some clan members, some not.   8. We'll just have to wait and see if item damage curbs KoS or not. That's the only way to tell for sure. But comments like "You can't. Because it won't." in reply to the thread topic just sounds egotistical and naive. Your statement assumes everyone sees things and plays the way you do, and it was proved wrong from the first reply, and has been proven wrong repeatedly since. Those who kill because they enjoy killing and pvp, and those who kill on sight so as not to take a chance on being killed instead, will still do it. Those who kill for gear, however, may now think twice. So even if that latter are only a few, then item damage will have curbed or "delayed" some KoS. But like I said, we'll have to wait and see, because there are other factors to consider. Myself, since being killed or shot in the back many times after yelling "friendly" early in my DayZ experience, I have adjusted my playstyle to KoS (unless you're in TS with me). My reason: Do unto others BEFORE they do unto you. But if I see someone that I believe is no threat, either because he's a fresh spawn or he's not likely to even know I am there, then I generally just move on and let him be. However, the item degradation, specifically the boot wear and the resulting foot wound for walking in worn boots, will change my playstyle again. Since I tend to stay afoot and avoid riding in vehicles unless I'm with a group doing so, I will now most likely kill everyone I come across just to get a fresh pair of boots and avoid unnecessary trips into a town. I'm not going to suffer a foot wound and slowed movement just because I travel afoot (if I can help it). I already risk exposure and food supplies in addition to the slow travel method, but I don't like annoucing to to everyone that I'm coming in a vehicle. I'm not going to risk the slower movement and annoyance of a foot wound. So this item degradation will make me KoS even more, since I don't shoot for the foot. So you just don't know. Personally, I think the reason topics like this come up so often is because players just don't want to deal with item degradation and feel it's an inconvenience or annoyance. So they jump all over the KoS reasoning in order to get it reconsidered instead of just saying they don't like it. I'm sure this is not always the case, but I think it happens often enough. Just look as the most popular mods since DayZ began. Most cater to the easy mode crowd, making finding vehicles and high end weapons easier. It's not hard to believe that a lot of these arguments that gear destruction will not curb KoS is coming from the easy mode crowd that just want another CoD pvp game instead of more hardcore features that will improve the feel of desparation in the zombie apocalypse game it's actually designed to be. Despite it changing my playstyle in the opposite way intended by this feature, I still want to see it. Why? Because it makes the game even more hardcore, and the hardcore gameplay is why I came to DayZ to begin with. TL;DR - It's happening. Deal with it.

    How do you get around?

    Whatever I can find that runs with little to no effort on my part. Unless i really want it and know that i can get it running before somebody else gets near or zombies make it a real problem to fix, i leave most vehicles i find alone besides checking gear and it's condition to see if it is savable.

    Keep that mentality Jock. It is infinitely more challenging to be a hero than a bandit. You start to face questions such as "do I keep my gps on my person while I help people, or do I leave it behind and navigate by compass?" Lately I've been playing DayZ Despair which really ramps up the pressure to survive, especially at night when freezing to death is a real threat, and that has changed the pvp dynamic. It still happens, for sure, but the battles are much more intense struggles, because vehicles are so goddamned hard to get running they're actually worth killing over.
  14. Not quite - there's a single public official "hive", which all non-private vanilla servers connect to. This public hive tracks a single character, his position, equipment etc, across all of the public hive servers. Now things like vehicles or tents that you build are tied to that specific server, but anything you can carry can be moved from server to server on the public hive. Private hives run their own set of data, so they're their own little world, where everything you collect while playing there exists is only on that server. Private hives can also enforce various rules like no PvP or make extensive modifications to the gameplay experience that public hive servers aren't allowed to do. All of the various and sundry "mods of the mod" you can see in DayZ Commander's "Install/Update" window also run on private servers To find only servers connected to the official public hive, click "Hide unofficial" in Commander's server filter edit: arrgh ninja'ed by hours :( that'll teach me to open a thread, play DayZ for awhile and then reply without refresh

  16. Well, in order to understand how the whole server thing works first you must understand the concept of server hives. A server hive is a group of servers, spread around the world possibly, all sharing the same database. That's where your character gets saved, all your gear, all your stats. So when playing on a server which is part of a hive, if this server goes down you can instantly join another one also part of that hive and you'll keep on playing from the point you logged off the previous server. The official DayZ mod servers (called vanilla usually) are part of the public hive. There are hundreds (or thousands) of them, all around the world, all sharing the same database. They are not owned by the developers, BIS or any company. They are owned and maintained by normal people/communities/clans, as long as they obey some rules. No modifying, not adding vehicles/weapons, no admin abuse etc. You can read how server naming shows its location/features here. Private servers on the other hand are servers not part of the public hive, usually not part of any hive (there are some private hives though), each one having its own database. So if you are playing on a private one and it shuts down because the owner ran out of money or time to maintain it then you are instantly losing your character/progress/gear. Of course there are pros too when it comes to private servers, this way you can be playing with the same people if you like coop, you can have multiple avatars/characters (you can be playing as a hero on one and as a bandit on another) etc. Private servers can be either vanilla DayZ mod, DayZ mod with tweaks and additions (scripts, addons, extra features), another mod based on DayZ mod, another map etc. For more info on different mods of DayZ mod and different maps you can go here and scroll down to "DayZ Mods" and "Additional Maps". It's a bit outdated but you'll understand the difference of mods and maps. You can download all of these extra mods and maps with DayZ Commander. I know nothing about roleplaying.

    Servers in SA?

    Since I pretty much responded on this in a separate thread about modding the SA, I'm going to shamelessly paste my response from there out of pure laziness, so here it goes... I could care less, really, if the standalone is moddable, since most mods seem to dumb the game down to easy mode with far too much military loot and vehicles. The only mods I've enjoyed have been mods like Redux and DayZ+ which tended to introduce better features while keeping the game hardcore or making it even harder. Unfortunately, the masses want easy mode, so mods like Redux and + didn't do that well while dumbed down mods from Lingor and Namalsk to Epoch and Overwatch kept high populations. So I really don't care if the standalone is moddable if the mods are primarily just going to be designed by and for the easy mode crowd. But I DO want to see support for private hives. If it weren't for private hives, I wouldn't have played DayZ beyond the two months it took the public hive to drive me away from the game. I'll give the public hive a chance since I really have no choice on release of the SA, and because of the SA's new architecture. But I've heard nothing about measures taken to prevent server hopping and ghosting exploits in the standalone. Exploiters are only marginally better than script kiddies in my book, and the public hive is riddled with both. I'll take a good private community with good admins anyday. At least on the private hives I play on, there is no server hopping or ghosting, and glitching or combat logging earns a temp ban that progresses to perm ban on multiple offenses. And if a script kiddie kills you, you can post in the forum topic that appears after the script kiddie's ban, or contact an admin in the community's live chat or teamspeak to have your character rolled back to before the script kiddie killed you. No more losing hours, days, or even weeks of gameplay to scripts. ...and I'll add that I DO hope, since we will be forced to play on the public hive on release, that they have indeed added measures to address server hopping and ghosting by the release of the first public version of the SA. It will go a long way toward showing the improvement of the SA over the mod, and the merits of the public hive if they do. Otherwise there will be plenty of players like myself asking for private hive support. Personally, I'll most likely stick to the mod primarily until the SA does support private hives, or until issues like these are resolved on the public hive.

    Whats your ideal server population?

    On a map the size of Chernarus, I prefer about 25-30 players. With that population you have room for both PvE and PvP, basically you get the whole game experience. Too few and it's boring without the threat of bandits or interaction with other survivors. Too many and it's all PvP, in which case I'd just as soon play Wasteland or Warfare ARMA 2 mission files. I find that 25 to 30 players seems to be a good number. There's room to move around the map, look for and repair vehicles, find or build camps, etc, and all the time there's good chance you will encounter other players at least once during a play session.

    DayZ SA not being moddable

    The game itself was the most hacked survival game because it was "modifiable". The most stupid idea comes out of nowhere that you can use "currency" in an apocalypse world and make the game easiest survival game because it is "modifiable". The people who plays these abominations of regular DayZ can easily find 5 choppers, 10 vehicles and create a new "WOODBURY" city in 7 or 8 minutes, because game is "modifiable". Aaanndd you do NOT trust Dean making a pure, improved regular SA of DayZ because he will not allow you guys to create another epoch crap. If I were Dean, I wouldnt allow you people to play this game actually. Because you really dont deserve this...
