    Noobie questions

    1. It really depends on what you're lookin for. Just to name a few though Frankie, Devildog Gamer, Psyndicate, and Sacriel, but there are plenty more. I would say Rhino, but he's "given up" on DayZ, so I wouldn't expect any more material out of him. 2. Survival is the base of it, from there you set your own goals. Most common goals are to find tents and vehicles to set up a camp, fix and maintain a helicopter, get x number of kills in one life, become a Hero, rack up zombie kills, etc. The game is what you make of it. 3. The frustration is the "fun" of the game for me at least. I like games that are a legitmate challene for me, and DayZ is always giving me more. The new patch for instance, a lot of people are complaining that it's "too difficult", but I personally love it. I'm finally worried about zombies again, and now I can't get fully gear up in one place within half an hour. 4. The only rules really are, don't hack and don't battle log. The former is bannable and the latter is heavily frounded upon by the community (some admins will ban for it too) Everything else is fair game.

    Noobie questions

    1. Youtube, Frankie is a popular one, though there's some controversy surrounding him. Won't get into that here to both avoid your thread getting locked and nommed and becasue I don't really care too much. 2. Pretty much whatever you make of it. While minecraft does have 'endgame', its somewhat the same. I play as a survivalist. I avoid other player for the most part, collecting gear, food, and water. I look for vehicles to repair, and the parts to repair them with. I do go looking for weapons, but I avoid the 'PVP' guns as much as I can, (Let me put it this way, I'm gonna be happy with the weapons that are confirmed so far for Standalone Alpha, hunting and civilian guns with a few low end military) 3. Thats subjective. A few youtube videos attracted me to it, I forget exactly why, mostly just zombies and survival-ism I guess. There's also the 'heart pumping' things that happen in the game. Being in a high speed chase as I run away from a pair of bandits in a Huey while in an Offroad, trying to not get my things destroyed. Laying low and hiding as another player comes in the area (I avoid PVP mostly because I suck at it, and I try to play as a hero so unless I see an actual bandit I usually don't shoot, even if Im being shot at) 4. Sad to say there are no rules...Only the ones you live by. The guy you save by killing the zombies that were chasing him might turn around shoot you in the head and say 'you shot first', or he might give you a blood bag and a better gun.
  4. I have been having vehicles respawn after being destroyed, but a lot of times they respawn completely fixed with no fuel.
  5. Today i made Chernarus server with my friend and we would appreciate if you guys come check it out 1. What game am I playing?

I mean 'proper DayZ' in the terms of how DayZ was meant to be. I am not saying they are doing it wrong, they can play how they want it doesn't bother me. And I do wonder why they play it, if I wanted to run around like in an FPS I would go and play BF3. I don't want to come across saying they are doing it wrong. But I just want to know why nobody really seems to play vanilla. And it does concern me for when SA comes out because people may still have this attitude that they should get everything on spawn. I noticed someone complaining that it was too hard to find a vehicle (with 800+ vehicles on map) and that made my heart sink a little.
  9. JoeM (DayZ)

    What game am I playing?

Well I searched 'vanilla'. Have just done it now to double check. And the busiest server has 8 people on it. IMO it is not much fun when you never bump into anyone, I like it being busy. This is also what I am concerned about, why does most of the playerbase enjoy playing with hundreds of vehicles and no incentive to loot? Are they going to find SA boring frustrating?
  10. I really want to know, someone please help me. Me and my friends sat down today to find a good 1.7.7 veteran server but there is apparently no such thing. All the servers we find are listed as [600+ vehicles/25+ Choppers/Starting Gear/Custom Spawns/Recruit] etc etc etc.... I want to play DayZ, the zombie apocalypse mod not some kind of CoD/BF3 remake where you are spoon fed weapons on spawn and go around death-matching people. I don't disagree with PvP in DayZ but PvP in DayZ should be exhilarating and actually quite stressful. I tried a server with 800+(eight hundred+)(Yes EIGHT HUNDRED+) vehicles and starting gear. I spawned in Elektro with an MP5 with 3 mags and all I heard was shooting and just saw a kill feed of death after death by MP5 from distances of maybe 50 metres at most. I ran around a bit, got to the firestation and was shot at. I returned fire and killed him. There were at least 5 others around. I turned a bandit and finally got killed. And guess what! I didn't give two hoots about it, why? Because of course I would just respawn with near full gear again! I spawned in Kamenka, made my way to Zelenogorsk and found myself an ATV. It was fully repaired, just like all the newly spawned vehicles in this specific server. I drove it further north and saw a Bus, Ural, Jeep, Off road and another ATV that's when I knew it was getting a little ridiculous. After I got past Vybor I couldn't go 20 metres without seeing another 4 vehicles. Then I drove straight through the NWAF only to find that it was impossible to drive straight through it. Not because of the bandits around, but because it was filled with more vehicles! Hundreds of them! I then found an M24/NVGs/Coyote Backpack, all the toolbelt items and some other stuff. I then died. But I couldn't care less, I know that if I wanted to find that gear again it would take at most one hour. This is not what DayZ should be... We actually managed to find a good vanilla server yesterday, it had 35/35 people - a good amount. It took time and was very very very difficult, but at the same time it was awesome. There were 3 of us, we found zombies a threat for once thanks to 1.7.7, we found bandits and got into some exciting gun fights where our hearts were beating hard. We were screaming down TS 'Player! Player!' After multiple deaths (mainly from my not so skilled teammates) I managed to kill a bandit who had full gear! He said his character was some hundreds of days old. I had a DMR/NVGs/Rangefinder/Ghillie/Basically, the whole thing. After that point I played so carefully, everything was a risk if I had died I would have been mad. This server was so much fun, there was no loot in most buildings, bloodbags didn't work thanks to the server host and zombies were extremely difficult. It felt like a real zombie apocalypse and it was a real struggle to survive. There was swearing, blood, sweat and tears. BUT IT WAS AWESOME!!!!!! However there was a problem. The server is now empty, it has been all day. I think people found it too hard, people were raging down side channel and there were constant calls for help. I can find no servers that have a constant good population of players that are actually fun to play. Either vanilla or near vanilla. This makes me very sad. I'm worried for Standalone because it will be hard, I am concerned that people will give up on it because it's a challenge so there will be a small player base. So I just want to ask the question, what the duck happened to DayZ?????????????????????? Is it now just an FPS? Also if anyone could show me a near vanilla server with at least more than 20 players at all times that would be fantastic!!!
  11. Hello, I have been having this problem since the update, it is like the old problem that got patched a long time ago, vehicles do not respawn back to their designated spawn points after being destroyed. The gear contents remain in the vehicle even after it is destroyed, and the vehicle respawns back where you destroyed it after a server restart. How many servers are having this problem, too? I would appreciate feedback from any server admins / owners who are also having this trouble on their servers. Thanks for reading.
  12. Melone (DayZ)

What you guys think about the new update?

I ve put all my equipment (rangefinder, nvg, gps, m4a1 cco sd, etc) into my 24 slot backpack and I m going to wait for the next update. This update is no fun anymore because of the rare loot and the unrealistic zombies. There are vehicles and helis standing at the roads and nobody can repair it! I've been in Berezino for more than one hour after server restart, there were no parts for reparing vehicles at the locations where I ve always found something in an hour. You need four wheels mostly and there wasnt even one. Should I really spent two weeks of time for finding parts and reparing an atv just to get killed by another player? More loot and realistic zombies please. Do zombies use nvgs now? They can see me in the dark in 200 m distance. If there are players, who want it hard play in daytime and get raped by zombies and bandits, but give the "softie" players a chance at night! I m a night player because I dont like the screechy zombies (I just like the idea of surving in a lost world with limited ressources and (un)friendly players). And please let the zombies stay in the barracks when it is raining to get a little chance not to give the position away to other players when entering a city. And it must be possible to hide in the bushes again with ghillie, but they always give my position away. There should be a difference between a white shirt and ghillie / camo clothes.

    Pro tips for a newbie?

Ok, since I have some time, I am writing some stuff without telling you too many details. DayZ lives from own experiences and telling you how to survive immediately would only lower your impression of a game that is torn apart by people who don't want to be challenged. So here we go: 1. First and MOST IMPORTANT. You watched a lot of videos about DayZ. Treat yourself by finding an official DayZ server that runs standard DayZ. DO NOT join a server that advertises itself with "600+ vehicles 40+ helicopters, spawn with weapon and extra loot". Those servers are fun if you want a quick rush out of a PvP experience. This is not DayZ however. This is more like Arma 2 with zombies and basic needs (if you actually survive long enough to ever feel hungry/thirsty). 2. When you found a server that runs original, basic DayZ (can't stress that enough), do yourself a favor and do not use any aid online for a while. Such as: opening a map of Chernarus on your laptop or printing out a loot map. This will only minimize your true DayZ experience. This mod lives from its atmosphere which is "You against a world full of shit". The major keeper of DayZ is that as a starter, you are thrown into the cold water, without an idea about where you are, where to go, where to find this and that and what to do in the long run. You gotta find out by yourself where you can find food, drinks, equipment, guns. The frustration of being killed once after gearing up completely decreases with each time of being killed as you have learned where to find stuff and what to avoid next time. Don't let online information decrease that experience by using aids! 3. When playing the game, understand that nobody is your friend until he has proven you otherwise. It's essential (!!!) to have a mic so that you can communicate with other players via direct voice chat. One of the best parts of DayZ is that you don't know what that guy up there at the supermarket is up to. Go to him without being seen. Shoot him if you want his stuff. Or contact him if you want to try negotiating with him or teaming up. If you are skilled in the game (or experienced in Arma 2), use its mechanics to your favor and take control of a situation by aiming at the other player while telling him that you will not shoot him. You might find a great buddy to run along with for some time, that you can rely on and 2 men are worth more than a lonewolfer. However, the guy that you trusted might as well put a bullet into your head the moment you turn his back to him. It's up to you and faith. 4. One tip that many new players don't understand: Zombies are spawned by players. Meaning: If you look from a mountain into a town and you don't see any zombies around (assuming you are far away from the town), is an indicator that no player is inside said town. If there are zombies, a player should be close-by. Use this information for your strategy on approaching. However, be aware that snipers tend to lay down just far enough not to spawn zombies so that you think it's safe. REMEMBER: THE MOMENT YOU THINK IT'S SAFE, IS THE MOMENT YOU LOW DOWN YOUR AWARENESS. THAT'S USUALLY THE MOMENT YOU WILL SEE THE DEATH SCREEN. Have fun and again: don't use aids if you want a really good game.
  14. Loot on the ground to just be able to spam the "use" button and chuck into a open inventory slot. If your in a tight spot where you gotta get it and run. This would exclude vehicles/tents or anything you stash something inside. and where you dont have to directly look at the item...... Like vicinity but you wont have to bring up the HUD.... "quick grab"

    Fueling

Tack something on to this? A siphon hose rather than some kind of hand pump, or rather in addition to the hand pump. Handpump + Hose would allow you to refuel vehicle directly, but attract some zombies via noise (kinda like how chopping wood makes noise now) Siphon hose would allow you to siphon from wreaked vehicles, gas tanks, non wreaked vehicles. Slient, but you would have to have empty jerrycans in your inventory, and take a MINOR health damage from siphoning ('accidently' swallowing gas)
  16. Tired of the DayZ servers that start you out with powerful weapons? Tired of hundreds vehicles strewn across the map, so many that you encounter them on every road? Want to play an actual survival game and not a PVP match? We from CKW are here to announce the re-opening of our private hive Chernarus server with only a few modifications. Our active administrators stay away from editing the building, vehicle or loot spawning, as that would create imbalance. We only added refueling at gas stations and tanks, as well as a debug menu that is accessed by the press of a key (h). The same fast dedicated box and quick-to-respond admins on our massively popular public hive server are now available with a private hive. We have had the server up for about 3 hours since this posting so all players are on the same page. Not only are we available for 24/7 DayZ Mod private hive server, we plan to have a DayZ Standalone server up the day it becomes available. Come check us out. DayZ - US 245 Chicago [Chernarus] [REGULAR] - CKWGAMING.COM 69.147.233.138:2302 If you need help with anything or interested in joining us, hop in our public Teamspeak 3 server at ts.ckwgaming.com.
  17. ok, after a lot of fiddling, I simply reverted to SIX launcher that told me he wanted .net framework 4.5, got that, I manually patched arma 2 free before this, I could play dayz vaguely, as every other server went "something went wrong, try again later" or of the sorts, I installed dayz @origins with six, I could join any server just fine, but I could NOT pick up pickaxes, I just didn't have that option/did not show in Gear, and I cannot fix vehicles. I have the spare parts in inventory, but wherever I go, I do not get the option to fix the bloody things. is it because of dayz patch? is it just me? Edit: also fixed some game directories in DayZCommander, now it works, I installed dayz and origins with that program as well. when it wanted to patch A2 OA, during/after the patch was completed SUCCESSFULLY, it goes "Wrong CD KEY." ran the game just like SIX launcher. does Wrong CD KEY affect the game, such as, saaay cannot fix cars in dayz/origins and of the sorts?

  22. In regards to vehicles, i personally have never really bothered with them, with the exception of the bicycle. I have never had much patience to fix one up but i can really see how some players and groups want them in asap. And to be honest hearing a vehicle or chopper heading your way is one of those classic DayZ moments.
  23. I guess I don't really get that, as I play alone most of the time. But, to me, that's part of the magic... and a valuable weight on gameplay. Rather than just beaming over to NEAF for ten minutes and back off with some nice loot, actually preparing for a journey, scaring the crap out of myself at every snapped twig in the woods on my way there, then the tension of looting the place and making it back to base in one piece is just more rewarding to me. It's not that I don't like vehicles, whenever I find one, you can bet your ass I'm using that bad boy. But, my main issue is that they're far too easy to repair and maintain to justify their benefits. Tires fit EVERY vehicle, engine parts fit EVERY vehicle. Which I'm sure is a problem they'll rectify in SA. But if vehicles were made harder to repair, with scarce fuel availability, I think they'd be more valuable... less likely to be used... and would fall more in line with the tension of DayZ. Plus, if sidechat were disabled across the board, I think they'd be seen as less of a common occurance and more of a significant "thing" if that makes any sense. Doing without for a while might help get back to that baseline.
  24. I may very well be, but I actually think it might be good for the community to do without for a while. I mean, I still walk 90% of my time in DayZ even on high vehicle count servers/mods. Maybe I'm just being nostalgic, but I think a lot of people have been spoiled by how easy vehicles are to maintain. To prove my point, I see people whining (yes, actually whining, not just hyperbole whining) for rides from the coast. This never used to happen, and really sort of underscores how spoiled people have become when they expect pickups along the coast. Granted, I attribute this more to the faults of sidechat more than anything, but the sentiment is still there.

Give http://dayzpriv.com a look. They are very quick about support and use DayzCC for their control panel, which means easy import for custom placed vehicles and buildings!
