Wait. If vehicles blow up, they will be deleted on serverrestart and will eventually spawn back in. Not on the first restart, though.

new server with plenty of add-ons, Admins are fair and almost always active (I have no job :-/). Plenty of extra buildings and ALOT of vehicles. Just for poops and giggles... I just set up my own server and finally got everything working properly. I tried using your ArmA2OAProfile settings for the Veteran difficulty with changing some stuff but I kept running into a problem where the map looked like a BluForce tracker(showed any vehicles/players/zombies near you) and if I set a waypoint on my map, it wouldn't show up when I went to the HUD. I sat here the past 2 hours trying to figure it out and I finally did. The following parameters need to be set like this if you run into the same problem: I apologize if it has been posted but Google, the search function here, nothing was turning up any results. -
You named loose suggestions yourself in all of a few minutes. I seriously doubt that Bohemia could not come up with things to sell that give no advantages and I see no reason why they couldn't map out which of them can be looted naturally or lost on death. I don't think they would need to exactly copy Valve to do it, either. I also believe there are a lot of people out there who would pay a big price for something silly like their character having Goku styled hair. So I'm going to politely say that I won't propose what they sell because the specifics are inconsequential if they orchestrate it in a way that is inconsequential to players. Now then, you still seem to think that abusive server administrators are very likely to get caught. I want you to consider this. Why does it have to be that extreme? In a game like this you don't have to go to such extremes to have a huge advantage. My suggested example was the cheater taking a quick peak at where all of the vehicles are. If someone tried telling the central server to give his character a bunch of gear all at once then a red flag probably would go up. But, again, you don't need to do something that extreme to get an unfair advantage.

Then allow me to ask, what do you propose they sell? Hats? Answer the question I posed earlier. Can they be looted? Can they be lost? Now answer this, how much for the black hat? How much for the camo boonie? I bet the bright orange hunters hat is the cheapest right? I don't think a micro-transaction system that works for Team Fortress can work in a game like DayZ so let's brainstorm some items they could sell that wouldn't impact the game. Jewelry. Socks. Undershirts. How about clan logo placement on armbands. No, that would impact teamplay and give some teams an advantage over others. Slightly different paint jobs on vehicles you're in? As long as you couldn't actually pick the color or buy them all until you had the one that blends in the best then that might work. I'm open to suggestions. Those were honest attempts. Since we're just guessing what the shadows on the wall actually are we might as well take it even further. So MrL33tD34th decides to setup a server. Having a solid background in networking, programming, and general awesomeness, he finds a way to hack the game. Terrific for him! He wants to hide his hacking but he knows it's probably not a good idea to block the hive as that might raise some flags. Now let's assume MrL33tD34th's Super Happy Thoughts server spoofs the data leaving to the main hive and whatever anti-cheat system the game has. Still great for him. He was able to spawn in all the gear and guns he could possibly want and endlessly chomp on beans while sitting on his throne of noob bones in Cherno. Well played MrL33tD34th. He's quite the skilled fellow. How will he ever get blacklisted. Again, since we're just taking small bit of info and running wild with it we can assume players come to his server, see people getting turned into jello, and leave after picking up a can of tuna. I wonder what the main hive would think this. I'd imagine a simple query of the database would suggest something funny was going on on MrL33tD34th's Super Happy Thoughts server as the players leaving never seem to match the data on record. Let's say MrL33tD34th found a way to mask only his own data. Well played MrL33tD34th. You sure are sharp. What happens when endless noobs get repeatedly killed by MrL33tD34th and the main database can't figure out who killed them. Hrm..... seems a bit fishy don't you think. Luckily he made it look like the hundreds of people he ground up with his fully automatic 1000m shotgun appear to be suicides. Wait a second.. MrL33tD34th's Super Happy Thoughts server sure has a lot of suicides... Point is, this isn't the mod. Hiding this isn't going to be easy. Blacklisting servers and even the people who rent them wouldn't be incredibly hard to do if the initiative is taken and the devs take it seriously. We really need to get more info on how this operation is going to run before jumping to conclusions. (p.s. don't forget to answer the questions before the absurdity, thanks) -
I'm going to take a leap of faith and say that how you feel has much to do with this quote; "who'll likely get their servers blacklisted anyway". If that were a possibility then I wouldn't have started this topic. Going back to the points I raised at the end of page 1 of this thread, cheating server side with a machine that players have root access to can easily be done without detection and in secrecy. If someone abuses it and tries making their self invincible then, yeah, they'll get black listed -- but you need to consider things that can be done quietly that no one will notice, like taking a quick peak at where all the vehicles are. Okay, so you dislike the model where Bohemia hosts the servers by selling things. Context is everything. Selling things when players are already paying for the servers would be a horrible money grab. I would be completely against that. Selling things that give unfair advantages is what we call "Pay 2 Win". I would be completely against that. Selling things before the game is finished would be a horrible money grab. I would be completely against that. However, selling things because its necessary for the game's health is not a horrible money grab. That is the point. It is necessary. It is necessary that Bohemia host the servers. It is necessary that this game be as secure as possible. It's in the game's nature. It needs to be more secure than a FPS server. It needs to be, at the very least, as secure as every other MMO on the market.

DayZ is a die-hard surviving game, not a frickin mmorpg. Some visual things are better though, like the "self-made" vehicles. A little bit overdone though. Moreover, I prefer Chernarus or Namalsk over Taviana.

The save function was kind of a fix, the point of it is a manual way of saving to prevent vehicles roll backs, or tents, i just make a habbit of saving before logging off.

So recently I started hosting my own DayZ private Hive. At the start I didn't have to save vehicles, but now if I don't save them they will go back to the last place where they were saved. I don't know if it has something to do with the 1.7.7.1 update or something else. Can this be fixed? If so, how? I am using http://www.vilayer.com/ to host and HeidiSQL Please help

yeah, spawn seems messed up :/ all the vehicles that are supposed to randomly spawn, spawn in debug. and the SUV doesn't spawn at all on my server.

Go join BMRF. They host a wide variety of DayZ servers that are all connected by their own hive, kind of like a public hive, and have lots of players that play them. Oh, right, and their almost entirely vanilla except for a firestation at NEAF and Kamenka, I think. I haven't found anything else out of the ordinary. Regular vehicles, guns, and a scarce supply of them, at that! Also are running 1.7.7.1. Or don't, and keep complaining. Your choice. (I know you're not complaining- no one ever is) Teehee

I'm really struggling to find a good freaking place where I can see just what DayZero is. A fine, clear list of what's new, what's out, etc etc. Vehicles, skins, guns, AI, behaviors, items. I just don't know.

I think loudspeakers in places in general should be a good idea. If you look, firestations have sirens. Wouldn't it be smart to, oh, I dunno, set off the siren, attract a whole bunch of zeds, then blow the firestation up with your cleverly-placed satchel charge, thus eliminating a large threat? Or, having a microphone, so say if you take over a town, you can communicate, "YOU ARE IN A CONTROLLED ZONE. SIGNS OF HOSTILITY WILL NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY! PLEASE GET OUT OF YOUR CAR!" It'd be good in vehicles, but other things, too. Also, what about exclusive police radios, or truck driver HAM radios? If you found all the police cars you and your buddies can communicate secretly without the need of 3rd party software, or, just other randoms you team up with in-game.

SlayerZ It's all about the community SlayerZ is a new server with an aim to create a great community of different types of players. If you want to be a bandit and go against the players then so be it - there is nobody stopping you. We allow anyone to play on our server and whether you would like to play solo or with a clan is up to you. However we must warn you - not everyone is friendly. You set your own targets and create your own style of gameplay. We aren't here to restrict you as long as you follow the rules. Starting Loadout When you first join the server, you will have some items already placed in your inventory to help you start your journey. Unlike other servers, we don't give you powerful weapons to start out with so if you are looking for a server which does then I suggest you look elsewhere. Here are the basic items which you will have as your starting kit. - Map - Flashlight - Bandage - Painkillers - Water Bottle - Night Vision Goggles However those items won't keep you alive for long and therefore you will need to find towns and loot for more items to keep you alive. However towns are full of zombies and therefore you will need to use your hiding skills to sneak past them. I suggest you aim at finding a weapon before you do anything else or you may not last long without one. I think just adding a dedicated weapon slot to the pack itself like vehicles and tents have is the most reasonable way to achieve this with the minimal amount of coding changes. No need to change graphics or getting all crazy with standalone on the horizion just something that should be in theroy a quick gode change to a couple of items

here is my take on it. i have been playing vanilla dayz for the past 3 months and i love it; but there are aspects that get frustrating sometimes. such as once you get geared up and find a vehicle there is nothing else left to do. yes i know its a make your own story aspect, but 80% of that time its pvp after getting geared. but the things i love is the fear of death, and the adventure of getting geared up. but in all vanillia is my favorite now on to origins, i have been playing for the last week and consider the pvp aspect not much different from vanilla. you still have bandits camping the spawn points and major cites. and lets face it the whole humanity system is a little wierd but not by alot. heroes kill bandits, bandits kill everybody. not much different from vanilla. i like the base building & salvation city, dr. ivans lab. it gives you something fun to do when you get geared up. and with the recent update the NPC's have become extremely hard. there has been alot of people banding together to try and clear the city. the things i hate are: its very buggy you have to constantly watch where you walk inbuildings from fear of glitching through the floor, not to mention there are walls all over the place that you can just walk through. and there are too many vehicles, but in defense of that almost everysingle one needs to be compleatly fixed. in the end its all about what you want to do. most days i am on a vanilla server, but i wont bash origins for being different. i will leave that for breaking point ;) -
I Don't know the actual size of the two main island, but I highly doubt that. Chenarus 225 square kilometers of pure, interesting land. about 60-70% of your "twice as big" map (just eyeballing it here) is just ocean; plain old, boring ocean. The actual landmasses aren't very big to begin with, and with the abundance of vehicles, the presence of a divided highway around both islands, and the lack of street debris, that size is made much smaller since you can easily get anywhere on the mainland in about 15-20 minutes at most. As for the main topic, I'm in the school of thought that they're trying to do so much, that they haven't focus on key aspects, and it just all ends up sub-par or just straight up bad. For instance, the humanity system, it's cool they have different skins and "levels", but the choices they've made on it are a bit silly. The skins aren't that great in my opinion, just different, and the fact that you gain humanity from killing bandits just turns it into a witch hunt, or as someone else said "red vs. blue" instead of being an actual hero. And I haven't gotten as far as building an actual house, but from what I've heard of it, I don't like how they handled the concept; magic storage boxes that can't be looted by others, but that's been beat to death in this thread already. Long story short, Origins didn't refine their simple concepts and build up from it, so they're trying to do too much to please everyone, but it's bad at the core, in my opinion. I like vanilla DayZ because it's simple and well thought out. I like the danger of people finding my base and having to hide it and guard instead of "it's mine, you can't touch!". I feel more immersed and scared to die than I do in Origins, even without a house. DayZ does DayZ best, Origins is a whole different animal now.

This is something I've wanted for a while. Maybe in SA you could do some kind of wiring to connect speakers to the outside of vehicles.
