my name is John (BadVoodoo) i have been playing dayz and arma for about two years now. i am in the eastern time zone and currently employed by "fabulous" Marine Corps. I know a thing our two about tactics and how to take things seriously. i can deploy almost any weapon system the game has to offer with great effect, i can fly pretty much all the aircraft and am a decent driver with land vehicles. im looking for a group of people who are around the age of 20+ who play the game the way its meant to be played. i love pvp and role playing and would join a clan but most of them are located somewhere in Europe or they have to many people or they are just a bunch of kids killing everything they see. if you wanna talk or play hit me up on skype or pm me. skype:BadVoodoo

Various engaging survival elements and Endgame ideas
DeepSpaceBass posted a topic in DayZ Mod Suggestions
Items Guns deteriorate through use, as weapon condition drops its problems get worse over time up to a point where they become irrepairable.Portable storage like backpacks and satchels can be damaged by gunfire, making them lose useable space or be rendered completely useless.Items carried by players also has a random chance of being damaged/broken by gunfire. Utitlites for the players to set up bases of operation for their own factions This idea came about as part of my own idea to be able to set up a marketplace with armed guards where unarmed players can trade. Guards standing outside would be able to strip you of your weapons and unload any ammunition from them for you to sell. Moveable static objects and coverThe ability to lock some doors (and the ability to break them down) Endgame Ideas Im kind of afraid I'll get flamed for this, but the only thing I could think of to add endgame players could work towards involved several things, one of them involving changing the theme of the game significantly. I was thinking the endgame would involve changing the zombie theme into a more supernatural theme in the vein of the original Night of the Living Dead, Doom, Dead-Alive, Resident Evil 4, or Evil Dead. Boss battles, and not bosses that are just around to fight you, they effect the world around you as well. Theres lots of directions you could go with this but my first one is a large enemy that preys on vehicles traveling the road. The bosses drop artifacts that give unusual effects to those in an area around the carrier, and return to the(or create a new) boss on the death of the carrier of the artifact, and a different (mostly negative in my mind, up to debate) effect to the carrier himself. If you guys really don't like the idea of making the game more crazy and supernatural I understand that, but other than that I'm at a loss as to what the endgame could be other than shooting anything that moves. -
The goals of a group....Discussion.
ClassyPenguin replied to katana2665's topic in General Discussion
It's an interesting goal. I wonder exactly how it would be implemented though. My guess is that any bases which are established would need to be basically hidden campsites. Anything bigger or in a more prominent location is just going to get raided and trashed. I imagine once the game is complete there will be lots of clans stashing vehicles and items in the far north. I'm skeptical that anyone could set up something that resembles a "community" in DayZ, even with crafting systems fully implemented, etc. What I'd really like to see is more content that allows clans and groups to have unique goals and missions. I've suggested adding non-lethal ways of disabling players in other threads, which would create opportunities both for bandit groups and rescue groups to accomplish their goals in really interesting ways. I am also someone who thinks that when they implement helicopters, they should (a) make them civilian helicopters, and (b) not make them too rare, because I think once clans and groups get their hands on vehicles and helis things will get a lot more interesting (they'd actually be able to patrol large swaths of territory, for example). -
rocket said on twitter that vehicles were coming soon ! how soon is soon though? this was like a week ago.
-
Me too, but i am one of the weird ones that likes getting around on foot. Vehicles are needed and i am glad they didn't just port over the hopeless wrecks from arma.
-
vehicle damage is already in the mod. Any time spent on the mod around vehicles would show you that all the parts can be damaged and visibly changed to reflect this. However, this is DayZ not GTA. Also, as for veterans who think anything that is not from rocket is a bad idea? Sorry, but im calling BS on that one. Change is not only a good thing, but it is also a necessary one otherwise the game will stagnate. I myself suggested an idea for players to create their own guile suits in addition to finding them. The difference is, my idea is not leading away from what the core of DayZ is. Asking for TANKS, the ability to add turrets to cars, complaining about the PvP/KoS on site around hot spots on the map, the ability to have multiple characters and the plethora of other crap is moving away from the core of DayZ. Like i said, change is a good thing, but is only a good thing if the thing being changed is still recognizable after the changes.

I almost like it without vehicles...
-
That would be due to the fact that DayZ is running on a modified Arma 2 engine, it's no surprise that they haven't taken out the base models and vehicles as of yet. The difference is, they can't be used, and more then likely will not be used as the Arma 2 vehicles are far to unreliable and unuseable in the DayZ world Rocket stated he wanted. Vehicles should be found with missing doors, panels and such as far as I remember and those base vehicles are not programmed for that kind of fixability and customization.

Cracked server files shows a Tank, UAZ,Ural,Ural with Turret and some other civilian vehicles in the client right now.
-
I am comfortable with a mid 2014 release of vehicles tbh.
-
I agree. Can't wait to see some vehicles in. ;)
-
Alpha is struggling with what we have now spawning into the servers i can only imagine the headache of tents+ gear being saved/kept on servers. I do hope we see these features soon, From what i can gather the Alpha is testing core mechanics and vehicles and the likes are in the client files thier just not "switched on".
-
I agree. Even if only bicycles, vehicles are a huge of DayZ and the game is not the same without them. As for tents, I think they should just add some method of storage such as a case/bag you could place down somewhere that would stay after restart. But, as sad as it is.... Alpha!

This is based off of the ArmA engine (though modified) so don't expect some GTA physics or anything like that. GTA is all about the cars. Here they are secondary. I just want most cars to be what we see on the roads already. Busted Betty vans, rusty GAZs, a few buses, Skodas and the generic crappy soviet cars that keep on chuggin'. GAZs and Urals being the military-esque type of vehicles that should imo, handle better offroad. No need for a T-90 or T-34. Personally I'd like to see a return of the AN-2 since it's not something you can just hide and take off in again without serious foresight. Maybe another plane, but that's me, nothing combative. As for helis, I'd be fine if they didn't exist here, but if they do, nothing crazy powerful and severe maintenance to keep them aloft. No need for M240s or PKMs here, you're already in the air flying faster than anything else can travel.
-
I'm totally excited for the vehicles I hope that most from the mod are returning! And tanks... not a very good idea
-
So we should not expect vehicles around early 2014?
-
Above, plus a lot of - items like -No vehicles -Less weapons -(Various other items like binoculars that do not work/not implemented) Pretty much everything that was in the mod but not this current Alpha will be implemented.

Anyone else looking forward to setting up booby traps with home made or military explosives ? I can already see the possibilities. Imagine setting up shop in one of the apartment buildings once the player render distance problem is fixed and booby trapping the entrance. Said sniper then proceeds to shoot anyone he sees in sight terrorizing bandit and survivor alike. When the people finally band together to take him out they are met with a series of booby traps hampering them. Another great scenario would be to set up an ied outside a heavily traveled road and eventually when vehicles are added the road side bomb will disable the vehicle allowing you to stick up the remaining hurt survivors or finish them off with impressive ambush fire.

Why do you "have" to feel bad for being a bandit/kos?
Diggydug (DayZ) replied to Nesuma (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
It's just because there's a lot more to DayZ than just killing everyone. What you're doing is basically playing Wasteland as an indie with your friends, except you can rest knowing most people you come across aren't as well armed. This will be even more so when more weapons are added later along with vehicles and other big changes. I don't mind players killing each other, I don't think anyone in this thread does, but KoS just because you can't think of anything else to do is pretty lame. Granted this is an early stage of the standalone so there truly isn't a whole lot to do besides gear up, but I find that a lot of people are just server hopping to gear up, going to a popular spot, and killing other players. That just goes to show people aren't here for survival, not currently, and I cant' blame them much since we don't have a lot to do, but if it follows the same route as the mod it's pathetic. EDIT: Basically play how you want. If that means being a dick, then so be it, but don't be surprised when people call you out for being a dick. -
To The Squad Of 4 In Pavlovo At 17:10 GMT
reddeer01 replied to fortran's topic in General Discussion
We tended to leave one person on watch outside of the city at a vantage point at times like this. Then switch out. That was until we got vehicles. And we got used to all types of geared people covering in fear or taking potshots at us as we stroll into the cherno apartments. Good Times. -
Hey guys, TIC here and I just wanted to bring up an idea that would be pretty beneficial for players who seek to play the Standalone fairly and could reduce hacking and any other type of offender to make everyone's gaming experience fair and equal as possible :) How Reporting Works Reporting would work when you click on the button, you can scroll through a list of players on the server(if it's an legitimate offense), after that, you can submit one of the options that are available or you can send a custom message. Purpose: This would help many players including mods, admins or even Battleye to settle issues relating to players ruining an experience for an MMO. This option could make jobs easier to simplify and eliminate sources of issues from players. After a report, takes 60 seconds for you to submit another report. Reports could be sent to Battleye or an available moderator/Server admin upon your request. Reporting option would appear in any available corner that you desire(available to move in Options) Once a report is sent, you'll be notified that it has been received to either Battleye, Admins or moderators available. This would make jobs easier for admins, moderators and such. A screenshot could be a possibility to be attached to a report. Reporting System Provoking other players with offensive language or behaviour and then reporting them when they retaliate is considered a misuse of the reporting system, and may result in you being penalised. Our logs will clearly show what took place before the report was submitted, and who instigated the incident. Reporting other players who you know not to have committed an offence, either as a joke or as a way of deliberately inconveniencing them, is considered a misuse of the reporting system, and may result in your account being penalized. Knowingly submitting any kind of false report is considered a misuse of the reporting system, and may result in your account being penalised. Humanity; Replace it completely and make it an asset to a reporting system as a category. I know bandits, survivors and heroes will not distinguish themselves anymore through transformations ;) The Humanity Category for reporting consists of both Humanity and Security. Humanity Inappropriate Language/Behavior(Racial slurs, Spamming, Trolling, Religion bashing, etc): This is a common issue in most games, particularly an MMO that DayZ Standalone is currently aiming for. Real world trading: You may not under any circumstances sell or buy in game items for real world money. Encouraging others to break rules: This consists of rallying up players as a group to oppose guidelines and rules. Flaming/Harassment: This includes name-calling, bashing, targeting(or singling out someone), arguments and so-forth. Staff impersonation: Claiming you work for DayZ Staff, administration, moderation or any upper staff should be considered an offense. Advertising: Leading people to other websites that can lead to a virus, marketing gimmick and so forth. Security Hacking: This one is a big no-no and should be recommended if you see anyone abusing in this way. This includes item duping, god mode, aim bots, etc. Exploiting Bugs: Exploiting a bug to your advantage is considered an offense. Don't like this solution. It still allows for easy loot farming if one can just select a different server (regardless of the server previous) every time. 1. Lock the characters down to the server. No more persistent characters. This is my personal favorite, as I feel it undermines many other mechanics (the entire loot system, construction, storage, vehicles, etc.) 2. Whenever you server swap, you respawn at the coast. With some of your gear missing or all of it remaining persistent, but your stats (kills, humanity, whatever) stay put. 3. Whenever you swap, you respawn at the coast. You have none of your gear but your stats are the same. 4. Log-out timer. I hate this solution. It's a caveman solution that doesn't actually fix the problem, it just makes it a longer process. The first three in my opinion, are the best. 2 and 3 remove the immediate tactical advantage of being able to server hop to gain the advantage in a firefight. Also, it removes the problem of being able to server hop to get inside player structures. Similarly, 3 removes the problem of loot farming outright while 2 makes it incredibly risky and/or tedious.
