  1. Traveler (DayZ)

I think the map is too small for cars. Am I the only one

I want to see Choppers, I mean BIKES, and by bikes i mean not BIKES, but the ones with an angine! Secondly, I want torn-up vehicles that look like Mad Max drove them around, and I want them to get stuck in the mud on an uphill drive through grass when it is raining, beacuase fu** you that is what my car would do IRL, as long as you don't have a 4x4 you should be 75% fu**ed! That should even the odds a bit. sticking to the roads for the 2x4 would be mandatory. And noone cmplain about that, try driving your car through 5" deep mud in a field...see?? NOPE. The map will get bigger, once they add stuff up north. That WILL make a difference, and you basicvally NEED a car around there ^^
  2. Vehicles needs to be rare and extremely complicated to repair. You should need a big toolbox with lots of different tools to repair and maintain a functional vehicle. I fully enjoy this particular time in development, where no one is hording all the vehicles outside of the map and not racing from crash site to crash site every time the server restarts.
  3. I support making vehicles extremely common, but like most of the other items I find in this game... they need to rarely be in top condition. Fuel would be a nice incentive to keep people looting constantly. Helicopters, tanks, etc are great end game toys to keep people entertained. I think they just need to be difficult to use and even more difficult to maintain. I really want to see some noob who got lucky just crash and burn in a helicopter accident.

I agree with you, vehicles should be common, but with some needs of repair. Fuel should be ''rarer'' than before. And helicopters, tanks or every war machine should'nt be implemented.
  5. People talking about vehicles being rare, I completely disagree with you. Vehicles should be very, very common. However, the majority should need some basic repairs from sitting and rusting for some time. The main problem with Vehicles should be fuel - which should be in very, very short supply and used incredibly realistically (thus massively decreasing use of vehicles like helicopters, tanks, large military vehicles and the likes.)

Helicopters should NOT be brought back in DayZ SA. It was too easy to find every camp on the map, find every vehicles... I remember me and my clan, with one helicopter, we brought back almost 20 vehicles in our camp, we stole them all of camps, and we found 2 other helicopters.. we stole almost everybody on the map in 1 night, it's too easy. Also you see someone on the road, and it takes seconds to explode his car. Well maybe some of you won't agree, but I think we should only stick to cars. If they are going to implement car customisation, base creation, farming and blablabla, with helicopters, all you could construct will be destoyed just because of helicopters. I remember we had our server, I told to the admin (my clan mate) to take out the heli. Camps were almost untouched, our camp stayed alive for almost 1 month. And then, after he readded heli, our clan rivals, just found every camp on the map and destroyed thems. Sorry for english.
  7. Having both played on servers that had tons of vehicles (100+) to some that had barely any, I can safely say that ones with more vehicles were alot more fun. They didn't really break the balance of the game as they well extremely risky and produced tons of noise, causing the player to draw tons of attention from both players and zombies. They also didn't break immersion due to the fact that in a real world apocalypse-type scenario, there would be abandoned vehicles in both working/broken condition -everywhere-. Ever drive to NWAF? You might want to hop out and go on foot before you actually get there or you will run into "problems". Large numbers of vehicles do not upset balance in any way and add alot more enjoyment to a server, IMO. (Note the IMO here). In regards to the topic itself, chernarus is huge and vehicles help the monotony of running around for hours on end. Only Lingor felt "smaller" with tons of vehicles, and I only say smaller because at no point did it feel small entirely, unless you had a helicopter, I suppose.
  8. vehicles were fine in the mod. people will camp roads. so you have to be a careful driver.
  9. This is how I see vehicles. Regular bicycles = semi common Motorbikes = Semi rare Any sort of motor vehicle needs to be semi rare if not rare. Helicopters need to be almost non existent.
  10. 10x10km2 is Perfect for vehicles / helicopters. I can't wait till they are in!
  11. Love the game so far. I think it would be great if the dev team could put up a list of features they are currently working on adding/ fixing for the next update. And also a list of all the features that they are planning on adding to the game. Like adding vehicles and building bases. Also when or in what order they are planning on implementing these game features (if known). I’ve read a lot of posts asking for things and when/if new features will be implemented. If we had a list of what’s planned and what’s currently being worked on I think it would answer a lot of questions for people. Also it might help us help the dev team make a better game. As a software developer myself, I know that things change as you are writing a program and it’s frustrating to go back and rewrite code, if we the players could give input before dev of certain game features it might help out. Just a thought anyway. If such a list already exists great and could you give me a link?
  12. Ehh, even that area would seem a lot larger with vehicles, which have to navigate stuff - and the inability to sprint better than any cross country runner alive.
  13. Someone sounds butthurt that they never got vehicles.

Vehicles can't be rare, just like weapons. If there are only 10 vehicles on the map, the 10 people who have them, or the two people who find them all and horde them, will be that much infinitely stronger than everyone else. However, vehicles don't really belong on this map, to be honest. After playing SA with absolutely no vehicles in game yet, it's been great. I don't think we need them, or they're necessary.
  15. The map is huge - it only seems small as you can run at sprinting speeds everywhere, with no need for breaks. You also handle slopes, which are everywhere, better than an average car likely would. Vehicles also will not be able to go through trees particularly easy. Basically, once vehicles and some kind of stamina/weight system is implemented, the map will actually seem a lot larger.
  16. SA map is actually bigger. Vehicles will be fine.. and they aren't as much of a death sentence as some people are saying. Just avoid high traffic areas, or be prepared to defend yourself if you are in high pop areas. I rode around in a White Offroad or Military Offroad for the majority of my time in the mod.. Got shot at a few times, and usually just pulled off the road and killed the guy who shot at me and proceeded along my way. Only once was my tire ever shot out, and that was at NWAF and I was driving ON the airstrip, in the middle of a massive firefight with several parties involved. Only other time I've lost my vehicle due to driving around was when I picked up a fresh spawn and bloodbagged him.. he tried to take off in my offroad and I lit it up with an M16A4 ACOG, and blew it up with him in it.
  17. Look at the world we live in, vehicles are plentiful and fuel is SCARCE. I think we want the same thing, but in reality, fuel would eventually become hard to find. I think that should be the model. Not sure which direction it will go at this point. I'm personally really excited about base building and a ton of zombies on the map with a few instanced scenarios such as hordes and crash sites or whatever. EDIT: Also, I hope like hell that the train eventually becomes operational. I've seen it up there. . . I've seen it. Plus all the new track.
  18. I just want vehicles to be rare. Perhaps only have a handful of large vehicles mixed in with a more genereous amount of small transport vehicles such as bikes, electric scooters, etc.

    [SA]WeaponZ Survey

My idea would be not to make Military weapons rare but put in some sort of maintenance into the game then make the military weapons harder to maintain but the civilian/crafted weapons easy to maintain that way u could have the fun of having a nice shiny Sniper/Machine Gun but it wont last long or even mess up on the first round u fire that way people may think yeah that weapon is better but the chances of it going wrong are high so ill take my trusty shotgun over the nice shiny M4. This would keep both the sides of the argument happy IMO. Also once the base building mechanic is in the game id like to see fitted weapons on tower kinda like the flamethrower and Balista type weapons u see in Mad Max 2 that would be cool also could look into being able to retro fit weapons like that to vehicles who wouldn't want a pickup truck with a massive crossbow on the back.
  20. I know we're not close to getting vehicles yet, but I thought it would be cool to have a hand cart for utilizing the train tracks someday. 1 person to pump it up and down minimum, but allow faster movement with 2 pumping.Allow for seating positions on the front/back for riding shotgun. Persons pumping it would be unable to use weapons. Mount a crate on it to allow for carrying gear,Allow fixed placement of machine gun, but lose seating. Could have a small empty cart attachment as well to give a larger transport capacity. Would need the ability to operate the track switchers where the tracks split. Opens up the possibility of track blocking for a train robbery.

Yea... they can fix it right after they introduce functional vehicles...... sounds great!

    Standalone Praise!

Devs, Just wanted to take a moment and Thank You for the work you have done on DayZ Standalone so far. It is coming along and will be a long process. It is kinda nice right now without all the helis and vehicles roaming about right now. The game so far has also made me more mindful of my surroundings again instead of "Kill everyone of sight", I am forced to decide if I want contact with another survivor or watch him and let him go by. My old habit of not sneaking around Zeds has changed now also. Anyway, seems like I am rambling on a bit. Good Job and Good Luck. Tony Montana
  23. DayZ is a multiplayer open world survival horror video game in development by Bohemia Interactive and the stand-alone version of the award-winning mod of the same name. (wiki) Perhaps the reason rocket has decided to make it standalone is so he can incorporate more survival elements than were possible from just making it a mod of a military sim? Such as being able to add respawnable zombies, additional elements such as cooking, hunting, dietary needs, crafting...all the stuff mentioned in the future updates? Just because the mod was limited and so devolved into people treating it as a military sim (making servers where people spawned with weapons/vehicles etc) doesn't necessarily mean that the intentions of the devs is to make it a military sim itself. Indeed I don't see ANY references from the devs that this will be designed as a military sim, it's pitched as a survival horror MMO. Useless IF you're treating it as a military sim...

[suggestion] hand cart on train tracks

I don't see what mines has to do with it. Theese are still around as backup vehicles on train tracks everywhere although it's very rare to see them used nowdays. I've seen both the classic 'pump version' and bicycle variants used around where i live (Sweden) on the countryside and on train tracks that are no longer in use. I can definately see them getting back on the tracks in a Day Z scenario. :)
  25. It's not "your" server in the sense of a typical game. You're effectively paying money to have a server that you know won't go down suddenly. This was a lot more relevant back in the mod, since if you built a base and stored vehicles, those were local to the server. I know I had some heartbreak when a server went down permanently where we had worked hard to establish a base filled with loot and three vehicles. That's what made us buy our own server (until hackers ruined everything and led to us quitting the mod. They would come on daily and teleport every vehicle to NWAF, including the boats). Basically, what you're forgetting is that you still own your server. It's yours, but in order for it to be allowed to connect to the hive, you have to abide by certain rules that are designed to keep the game fair. This is because you get people who would lock their server, farm up all the best loot in the game with no risk, then take all of that loot onto another server they didn't own just to kill everyone with their superior gear. By all means you are free to kick and ban whoever you want from your server, but because you are effectively cheating at that point by banning players who are playing the game in a way that it was intended to be played, you server is no longer a legitimate server. That's what you fail to understand. Kicking a player for not following your arbitrary rules is cheating. You're no better than the hackers at that point, and it is perfectly reasonable for a server run by a cheater to have his server banned from the hive, just like you would expect any other cheater to be banned.
