  1. I think a key system would be good BUT it cannot be the be all and end all, if you look at Epoch - if they can't drive it they just blow it up and hope a better one respawns. Here is another suggestion: 1) Keys upon spawn: When it spawns the car will have keys, these are they keys that can lock the car and start the car. Locking the car protects your loot and starting the car.. starts the car? 2) Finding keys on a body: If you find they keys to the car, you have the keys to the car, if you look an example 1 it tells you what keys can do. 3) Breaking into the car: Cars should be able to be broken into BUT breaking into the car will cause some problems. Example: There should be 2 stages to start the car: Open the car Start the car If the car is locked and you do not have the keys you will be required to use a toolbox to attempt to pry the vehicle open, this can take some time and can fail. Once the car is 'open' it can no longer be locked without being properly repaired, this means if you take the vehicle and hide it in a tree people will have full access to your gear as it is now permanently 'unlocked' until it is repaired. Once the car is open (whether you used the key or broke into it) you now have to start the vehicle. With a key is simple, you can just drive it since you have they key, if you don't have a key you will have to hotwire it using the toolbox. Hotwiring should take some amount of time and also come with some downsides. a) They car might not start as fast B) The car may set of some sort of alarm (This could attract zombies or players) c) Once the car is started you may not be able to properly turn the engine off (again, causing sound). A nice balance between stolen and owned cars would be best, one that encourages players to use their own vehicles but one that allows players to steal vehicles if it is really required but also comes with the downside of having a vehicle that isn't started using keys.

Ripe Bounty Gaming is Making a Clan

for anyone else who is interested can you all attend a meeting next saturday 14th September so i can introduce you all to each other give you all the low down of are home server and take you round it and show you what plugins we have what vehicles we will be using as clan vehicles in the server so forth so forth.
  3. Well it appears you missed the "Share thoughts, ideas, questions (after reading whole post)" part. Let me explain. True, but that would also be a real life scenario. If one scavenged all day long for vehicles then he'd have more keys than someone that just camps on a hill. Also anyone with a hatchet/makarov (or any other medium capable of breaking a window), and a toolbox would be able to steal and use said vehicles easily. Again, anyone is going to be able to steal/hotwire any claimed vehicle, it's not a permanent ownership system, it just adds some realism when it comes to finding/stealing vehicles. Agreed, this could also work (eg when you die vehicle becomes unlocked automatically). But I think it'd be better if it stayed locked just for the added difficulty. Maybe there's a middle road solution. If you die inside the vehicle (or within a specific proximity eg 100 meters, it becomes unlocked), thus simulating keys left in/near vehicle. But if you have a claimed/locked vehicle in Berezino and you die in Cherno, then it wouldn't be realistic if that car got magically unlocked, would it? Not to mention, when driving with buddies, one would use the abandon/unlock action so others would be able to enter. And if he got out to scout for example, he'd use the claim/lock action again. These actions are not supposed to be permanent. Locking a car has nothing to do with proximity, does it? If I lock my car and then move to Peru, it'll still stay locked. Till someone smashes the window, hotwires it and drives away. Get my point now? It's just a alternative suggestion to the use of actual vehicle keys, something much more complicated to implement that I don't see coming to the mod. If you have a better suggestion, one that provides vehicle locking, vehicle stealing, and all the other aspects mentioned in my post feel free to share.
  4. Points to ponder. You would have a bunch of guys running around to all the vehicles and "claiming" every one they find without intention of using them. 90% of the time, any vehicle that can not be stolen, moved, looted, etc, will be destroyed. Epoch's vehicle purchase/key system if living proof of this. If you are killed, the killer or your friend should be able to take your vehicle. I feel this would only be useful while your in game and in close proximity to your vehicle which in turn also increases your chances of dying. ( I'm undecided if this is a positive aspect or not) Oh, and no magical invisible transponder keys implanted on your person that can't be stolen. Thanks. Otherwise, it could work.
  5. This is an idea based on IT07's Optional anti-theft system thread. I did post it on said thread, but my guess is it got so much flak that nobody bothered to read past first page in order to see my post. So I'm deleting it, and making a dedicated thread for it. In a few words IT07 proposed a vehicle ownership system (vehicle gets tied to the player's guid and nobody else can use it) made specifically for "no stealing allowed" servers. Personally I can't even understand why a server would have such a rule, but I think if this idea gets altered/tweaked and combined with a couple of other things could work pretty nicely in the mod (or the SA in the future). So here we go. - There have been threads about vehicle keys. But this would need new objects/models/textures, new actions, some system linking specific keys with specific cars, etc. So too much hassle for the devs, when there are more important things they need to work on. But this idea could replace said key system. So let's say every vehicle on the server spawns with an "invisible" set of keys on it. Not very realistic I know, but let's say it's just cars abandoned in the middle of the road, got attacked and drivers fled or died, so any keys got left inside. You spawn on the coast, and find a fresh spawned vehicle. There are no actual keys, but in right click menu let's say there's a "claim/lock vehicle" action. As soon as you select that option, the system proposed in IT07's thread gets utilized and it works as if you have the keys to that car. Now if another player gets to the car and tries to get in, he gets in his right click menu "vehicle locked". He can't get in, he can't access the boot (steal/store gear) but he can still repair or remove parts (if removing parts ever gets added in vanilla). In order to steal said vehicle, he'd have to break (hatchet, gun, crowbar, doesn't matter how) one window, and jumpstart it. To jumpstart it, he would need to have in his inventory a toolbox (and/or a crowbar), and also it would take let's say 15-30 secs (timer). As soon as he does that, then the vehicle owning system deletes the entry for said vehicle, and it becomes an ownerless vehicle (eg jumpstarted, no keys needed), and can be used by anyone till it gets destroyed and respawns again with "invisible" keys inside. Also if someone "owns" a vehicle and he dies, I'd think the vehicle should stay in the locked state (system should delete the tied guid, but keep the vehicle locked). This way, we have ingame the normal locked cars that one would find in such a scenario, balancing the "all vehicles spawn with a sets of keys inside" part mentioned in the third paragraph. Only problem with this approach I can think of are claimed shared cars. For example exchanging seats with someone when you are bored of driving. To overcome this, there could be a right click option "abandon/unlock vehicle". This way you are dettaching your guid from said car, and anyone can use it (or claim it) without having to jumpstart it. Or one could not claim it in the first place afterall, choices are nice. - To recap, each vehicle is going to have 3 possible states. Unclaimed/abandoned/unlocked (either fresh spawned, driver didn't want to claim it or driver abandoned it after claiming it), Claimed/locked (locked to anyone besides driver, needs to get jumpstarted), Jumpstarted/unlocked (can't claim/lock it, it stays like that till it gets destroyed and respawns, everyone can use it). Same goes for every other vehicle besides cars, you'd just not have to break a window in order to gain access to the interior so you could jumpstart it. Now how would this help and why should it be implemented? First it will make hijacks more difficult. Secondly it will make getting away from zeds by hoping in a nearby car and driving away much more difficult (have to break a glass, have to have appropriate tools in inventory, have to wait in driver's seat for 15-30 secs while zeds/players are attacking you). It will give a more realistic sense of vehicle ownership and vehicle stealing. Also it will offer different states of vehicles (unlocked, locked, jumpstarted) one could find, like irl. IMO all these things are good for vanilla mod. It's just a matter of how difficult it is to get implemented (it appears complicated, but it really isn't methinks, needs a database, some right click menu editing/blocking, a timer and a couple of other things). TLDR 1) Vehicle gets tied to the guid of the first player to use "claim/lock vehicle" right menu option. It operates normally for him, appears locked for anyone else (can't enter, can't open/use boot-gear). 2) To steal it, you need to break one window (doesn't matter which), have a toolbox (and/or crowbar), and spend 15-30 secs jumpstarting it while sitting still in driver's seat. As soon as you accomplish that, you can drive around, you can use the boot, but you don't own it, can't lock it (simply put, it works like all vehicles work right now). 3) If owner dies, car stays locked (ownerless though), and only way to operate it is to jumpstart it. 4) There is a right click option to abandon/unlock the car (with invisible set of keys inside, as if it just spawned) after claiming it , so you can share it with friends of yours, of just leave it on the coast for a bambi if you feel like it. 5) There's also the option to not use the "claim/lock vehicle" action at all, making the vehicle to behave like they do right now (no locking of any sort, just as if you always left the keys inside irl). Share thoughts, ideas, questions (after reading whole post). Also try to keep it clean please.

    Worst day in DayZ ever

Too much planning to keep vehicles and tents. DayZ doesn't like plans. Consider yourself lucky you got all those vehicles on a public server. Besides that, I don't trust admins. They can see everything, and too many are kids with no ethics. I started playing public servers just as "the infection" was introduced. Spent a week server jumping, looking for anti-biotics. Barely even got geared up. Never found anti-biotics. Repeatedly had to find my corpse to get just a knife or box of matches from it. They were hard earned. Tense, because it could be a long run, and the server might restart. Finally got kitted up except for an axe. Running on the Electro docks I was lifted up, thrown down and killed. That bug has never been fixed. Running back from a Balota spawn, the server restarted. Corpse gone. Started all over, this time with my partner. Same deal, but between us we managed to build a full kit. No silenced gun though. And no anti-biotics. He wanted to stop, and play on my server where we could control infection. Tired of getting infected. I pushed him to stick it out for the challenge. We finally got well geared. How? Ran into a couple standing dead guys in the Berezino grocery, as my partner was almost dead from infection, and passing out every half minute. They had the works. Probably dupers. A few days later we were out of the 5 or 6 anti-biotics we took from the bodies. All we were doing was looking for anti-biotics. Getting pretty boring. I got hammered dead by zeds in Stary. Spawned by Cherno and ran back while he guarded my corpse. Nice nighttime run in the woods. Middle of nowhere. Halfway back to Stary he says a hero spawned by him, then disappeared. A minute later I got puppetted and brought to the "hero" 30 yards back. He had zeds with him that started wailing on me, and I alt-F4ed. Told my partner to do the same. Lost half our gear. We met up on a different server, divvied up the gear, and called it a night. With the current infection mechanic, one time getting hacked was enough for me. Haven't been back to public servers since. We might go back if the infection is modified. Let's hope hackers and killing bugs get dealt with too. Life is short, and DayZ life is too short to even measure.

An alpha is for testing not for entertainment....I would prefer to see an extended closed alpha, followed by a beta providing all basic features and the complete map ( maybe without basebuilding and vehicles).... but that's just me :P

    Worst day in DayZ ever

My friend and I ended up losing all our stuff today, vehicles, tents and all. We were playing on a public server with not too many people on it. I'd say around 10 or so. This chain of events started where we starting losing everything we had, one by one. 1. We find two cars, pitch a tent and we're happy campers. We have everything we need. Gear, tents, vehicles, the lot. 2. We find a chopper, fix it up, and I die while trying to get out due to a glitch with the Mi-17. Friend picks me up at the coast with his car, takes me back to where I parked my car and we're fine. 3. We find a plane. We fix it up, and my friend takes off while singing "I believe I can fly". He immediately dies after striking an invisible obstacle in the sky. While driving to the coast to pick him up, I get a flat tire at Stary Sobor. I run 3k to my friend's car, get parts, and run another 3k back to where my car was. I get killed by a bandit while repairing and have my car stolen. 4. I run 7k to where my friend's car was parked, in a wooded and secluded area. He still has vehicle parts in there which I can use to fix up the Mi-17. His car has also been stolen. 5. I run to our tents in a different area, also wooded and secluded in an attempt to fuel up the Mi-17 so we can at least gear up faster. The tent is has been looted. 6. I run back to the chopper and try to wait there for my friend. I get shot by a retarded hero who asks me to ID myself while I'm unconscious and unable to respond. He then shoots me in the head and finishes me off. I lose all my gear. So now we've lost everything and are back to square one. Bandits and friendly fire I understand. But when shit like this happens due to glitches and bugs in the game, I just start losing interest. Maybe DayZ isn't for me.
  10. After killing 14-16 people in my short time playing DayZ. I've decided to give up the life of a bandit and swap it for being a nice guy. I've had enough of ruining people's experience. Today I helped a noob get through his first day. I vow to make myself a better (virtual) person. From now on. I have a KoS mentality towards bandits. If you see me on UK 250+ VEHICLES NOOB FRIENDLY server. You'd better watch out. My name is ArseofTheLord. I kill bandits and help noobZ. Good bye my bandit friends.

    Awesomeness of the NWAF

The airfield was probably already looted. That's all. I also found a M107 and a M4A1 Holo in a vehicle, it was a HUMVEE or whatever it is. So its a good idea to check vehicles as well. Heli's don't usually carry much. But always check the barracks. Just make sure there is no-one waiting to ambush you.

    Stories of the survivors

Gather around everyone, gather around. I'm about to tell you the story of my encounter with the "Greek Gods". This happened to me a few months ago. So I had just spawned in and had looted the Balota Airfield, getting an m1014 shotgun, Survival backpack, a g17 with one clip, a couple of smoke grenades, a frag grenade, and a few other things. As I'm exiting a hangar, I see two other players standing in the middle of the airfield. Now, these guys were obviously fresh spawns, they were both equipped with hatchets. So I walk out to them, and start talking. So these guys gladly accept my help, with me leading them back to the hangars. One of them gets equipped with an ak-74 and some ammo. The other gets an empty akm, but I told him to take it anyway so that he could maybe bluff somebody with it if we met some less-friendly people. So I then lead them to the warehouses on the outskirts of the airfield so that they could get a toolbox I had seen earlier in my exploration. SO I then lead them to the military base near Balota, eliminating the zombies there with our pistols. As I'm exploring the towers, I find an ak74 and a Beretta m9, so I switched out my g17 because the m9 had more ammo. Then one of the guys tells me that he had to disconnect to help his friend, who's client had crashed and messed up the files somehow. He thanked me so much for hooking him and his friend up with the gear. I told him that it was nothing, I try to help people whenever I can. After he disconnected, I looted the rest of the army base before heading off for... Rogovo I think? If it wasn't that town it was one of the small towns in that general area. I had passed through there in a GAZ earlier after an expedition to the NW Airfield (I was going to pick up another player and we were going to try to repair a helicopter he'd found. The big, Russian helicopter. We died before we could get it off the ground.). Anyway, while I was passing through the town, I saw that it was filled with vehicles; a bus almost completely full on gas, a sedan, and ATV to be specific. Now comes the bad part. As I entered the town, I went for the ATV, I planned on driving to the NW Airfield to see if I could find some more gear. The bus may have been fuller on gas, but it would have painted a giant bulls-eye on my forehead the sedan was damaged on a couple of tires and was out of gas. So, I get on the ATV, start it up, and flip it over after only going about twenty feet. Well, while trying to flip the ATV, a zombie who had heard the commotion ran up and attacked me. So I run, turn around, and shoot it dead with my m9, which in turn brings another zombie to my location. But I don't see this coming, so I try bandaging again. I succeed, only to be bludgeoned by said zombie from earlier. I run, shoot it and the other zombie that noticed me, and proceed to run for my life. Enter the so called "Greek Gods". I'm running from the growing horde of undead that is chasing me when I hear helicopter blades. I turn to see a Little Bird helicopter that was going to fly right over my head. Now, before I go further, I must state that there were several things I could have done. I could have got in the bus and drove away, mow the horde down with my ak74, throw a smoke grenade to distract the zombies, there were a lot of things I could have done, including simply continuing to run away. But I didn't want to waste ammo, or become a target by driving the bus. The horde would have caught me by the time I threw the smoke grenade, and I would never be able to outrun them. So what do I do? I yell into Side Chat: "He-Hey! Guys in the heli! I could use some help please!" And amazingly, they turn and come back, with two guys bailing out and parachuting in front of me. These guys were equipped with some high-tech sniper rifles, and used them to good effect. The helicopter then lands, kicking up dust while the group of now twenty zombies charged us, with me and the two guys blowing them away with our weapons. I swear to God I felt like I was in a movie. Eventually, with the undead defeated, I take the time to thank them for saving my hide. "Oh. Oh my God! Thank- Thank you guys so much! Um, hey, do you guys think you can take me to the Northwest Airfield? I was trying to get there when all this crap happened." "Drop you weapons." One of them responds. Now your probably thinking right now, "Are you serious?! You went with these guys!? That should have been an instant red flag!" To which I respond with: "Well, you didn't just survive a horde of infected straight out of '28 Days Later'. My mind was still processing what the heck just happened, so I went along with it, thinking that they would pick up my weapons and give them back to me when we reached the airfield. And I'm not a noob, I've been playing Dayz long enough to know that if you meet someone, chances are you're going to get shot. So anyway, I do what they say, dropping my m9 and ak74, I only find out later that they left them behind. So after flying around for like ten minutes, I put a waypoint on my map to see how far away we were from the NW Airfield. It turns out we were actually getting further from the airfield. I though nothing of it, thinking that I could hang with these guys for a while. Oh, boy. Was I wrong. After landing on the mountains waaaaaaaay out on the edges of the map, they land and get out for a server restart. They then leave explore the area and I'm told to stay in the helicopter or I'll be shot, with one of their guys keeping their rifle aimed on me at all times. Some time later I hear gunshots followed by a death message appearing on the chat. Maybe fifteen minutes later a Ural comes driving by, disappearing down the other side of the slope of the hill we were on. a little while later I here an explosion. Then the other guys come back and get in the heli, taking off and flying to the outskirts of Cherno. They land, a couple of guys getting out and going somewhere. They come back later with a guy in a hero skin. It turns out the guy was the guy who shot at them earlier. We then fly off into the middle of the woods. I realize now how I might be in trouble. They say that we (Me and the hero player.) might get the chance to be on Youtube. I start panicking and ask (Stupidly.) if I've been kidnapped. "Guys, guys... Relax. You're just guests..." I should have bailed out of that helicopter right then and there. They made me and the hero player fight to the death in a barbed wire "Arena" with crowbars. Guess who lost? Yep, me. But it doesn't end there. A guy picks me up in his off-road truck and we drive to Balota to try and find gear and hunt down the guys who had trolled half the server (Turns out they were the same guys that me and another guy got into a flame war with in Side Chat.). So I get a silenced m9 pistol, and a Coyote Backpack, the best one in the game. But then, as we're heading to the warehouses to get some stuff, I hear helicopter blades. I freak out and tell the guy to drive. He does, but while we're driving into the woods, out of nowhere, I get sniped dead in the car. I then eventually decide that these guys aren't worth the trouble, and after I respawn near Solnichniy and get a Lee-Enfield, I decide to head to Berezino, stock up, find a vehicle, and live out in the wilderness. But then, as I'm crossing a field, heading to a farmhouse outside the factory area in between Solnichniy and Berezino, I hear something that makes my blood run cold. I hear helicopter blades. And like a vulture circling it's prey, they come flying by. I mumble into Side chat: "Oh no. You've got to be- come on." So as they land, I lower my weapon and casually walk towards them, as they get out of the heli and aim their guns at me. I see they've upgraded since I last saw them, one of them is wearing a ghillie suit. I decide to be a bit of a smart-aleck and say: "Well. Fancy meeting you here." I think they told me not to get any closer, I can't remember. but then I say: "I suppose this is the part where you tell me to drop my weapons and come with you?" "No... We have something different in mind." And that's when they shoot me, load my uncouncious body onto the Little bird, fly out to the ocean, and dump me in it. Amazingly, I survived. but then I had to restart because the screen effects from the blood loss were getting on my nerves. I respawn go into a town, find a bike, get three tents due to a duplication glitch (What they don't know wont hurt them.) and take off into the woods. Now a bike isn't the best when it comes to offroad travel, but it gets the job done. After a little while, I stop and disconnect. The next day, when I reconnect, you're never going to believe what I hear. I hear helicopter blades. I turn, and right between an open space in the trees, I see a Little Bird helicopter. And it's just hovering there, I get on my bike and start taking off into the woods, the helicopter following me. After a few minutes of wildly driving through the forest, hitting a couple of trees in the process, I stop and type in chat: Jman14102: "Who's in the heli?" I get this as a response: Zeus: "Hi. :)" The moment I see that I get shot repeatedly with a sniper rifle. I raged so badly. So that was the end of my encounters with the "Greek Gods." Or so I thought. A couple days ago, I was eating lunch at school with a couple of my friends, when one of them mentions how he was playing Dayz one day, "When out of nowhere, like eight guys in ghillie suits appear with sniper rifles. They shoot me while I'm typing in chat. Then they brag how they're gods and are unstoppable." I nearly choked on my food, I asked him if their names were those of Greek Gods and he said yes. If you encounter a "Zeus", "Poseidon", "Hades", or anyone else with the name of a Greek God, don't trust them. They are lying, trolling, hackers whose only goal is to ruin your day. Be careful.

  16. No, nothing planned. It's a pain in the arse when a clan horde all the vehicles, but it's almost worth it for the feels when you finally discover their camp, haha.

  20. "I am part of a race that kills for possessions." To deny us of theft would be totally inauthentic, and if you gave the servers the option, they'd just turn it on, just like they do with 500 + vehicles, spawn equipment, 24/7 daylight, and all those other completely shitty server options that have slaughtered this game's fundamental mechanic of scarcity. Damn, The Designer beat me to it.

    Need help coding mission files

to unban vehicles you need to use rmod the script your looking at adding have really good tutorials for on open dayz i suggest you try yourself first and if you run into problems send me a pm with your files and a copy of your servers rpt and i sort it and tell you where abouts you went wrong if you did doing it this way will give you a better understanding of how the game code works and if you have any problems you don't have to wait for someone else. for be kicks the only way to really do them is to do the following check the log - search for "#12345" where the number is the restriction you got kicked for. It'll show the code block that kicked you. Find that line in scripts.txt - it will be the line number + any commented lines, so the quickest way is to go to line 12345 (etc) and then keep looking past there until you find the "5 commandthatkickedyou" line. Would be easier to explain if you included log info, but here's an example using some random stuff in my log file.. So, the number was #23. Searching scripts.log for #23 I find this: 08.02.2013 12:01:36: SOMENAME (123.456.789.12:2304) XXXXXXGUIIDXXXXXX - #23 "playActionNow "Die";};player allowDamage true;player enableSimulation true;0 cutText ["", "BLACK IN",3];So I look in scripts.txt, starting at line number 23 and looking at the first word on each line until I find something that matches my code block. Here we go, line #25 - "1 enableSimulation" followed by a bunch of other stuff. So, we don't want to kick (or in this case log - doesn't matter, same process) for this anymore. BattlEye is freaking because it sees "enableSimulation." I need to tell it that this particular code is legit - so, at the very end of the line that starts with enableSimulation, I put a space, and the following: Code:!"player enableSimulation true;" So what we've told BE now is that enableSimulation, in general, is bad -- unless you see it in that exact format in the quotes there, in which case you can safely ignore it. Just make sure you copy and paste that exact line containing the "bad" command. The only extra tricky bit -- If your code has quotes in it, like this for instance: 0 cutText ["", "BLACK IN",3];You'll need to escape each of the quotes like this: !"0 cutText [\"\", \"BLACK IN\",3];"That way BE can tell the difference between a quote in the code and the quotes that are wrapping around the entire block of code. hope this helps feel free to pm me anytime
