10 Man Squad getting Ghosted On?...

Guys stop feeding Zeet pls. and yes that was an insult. So back to topic, ghosting or combat logging of any kind is dumb and pointless. Dumb because you'll never know what the end result could've been, meaning you'll never know how really pro you are. Pointless because what's the point of having a gun in the first place if your never really going to enter a combat situation? Not only are bigger groups harder to be tactical with but they also will get spotted a lot easier. Perfect size for any group imo is 3, one sniper two ground guys. Though like they say the more the merrier so it's really about if your trying to have fun or be tactical.

    Is a Hive necessary ?

No I think that all of my arguments have been valid and poignant and everything you've said so far was just false information and now you're telling me to 'go play the mod' which is a serious lolzer as Rocket already confirmed private hive support will be added in teh future. I think you're the kind of player who likes the public hive cause you like ghosting and server hopping. You see, it's easy to create strawmen and accuse others of being lamers.

10 Man Squad getting Ghosted On?...

Not judging play style. Fully aware of the Combat Logging/Ghosting situation. My opinion and point is... As much fun it can be to roll around with a nice big group of friends, all rocking out on Teamspeak. A group of 10 people is pretty sloppy. I noticed its easier to manage and communicate with other people than try to figure out which and who is where when there is a lot of stuff going on. Setting up a checkstop and taking shoes seems like a hostile situation to me. I'd honestly try to shoot everyone there just for the hell of it.

Being killed by server hoppers ruining game

Actually respawning loot will make the problem worse. Then there'd be an even less chance of inst-magi-jumping into a server that had no loot. Anyway, the fix is already on the roadmap. We just can't use it until it's fully ready, i.e. full release. HINT: Private Server/Private DB As long as Rocket is enarmoured with the Public Hive idea, this is what we are going to have to put up with. This, and ghosting.

10 Man Squad getting Ghosted On?...

Zeet, knowing when and where to pick your fights is a valuable skill. The sensible thing to do right now would be to leave the thread without saying another word. And on topic: no, ghosting is not an acceptable tactic to use against groups. It's abusing the server system. There's nothing wrong with grouping up.

10 Man Squad getting Ghosted On?...

So playing with your friends is an exploit, but ghosting is not?

10 Man Squad getting Ghosted On?...

Just posting to raise awareness again on this. Even if they were using aimbots or similar 3rd party programs to gain an advantage, they are cheats - not hacks. Sucks about people ghosting you though because that's pretty lame, but yeah, these are script kiddies / .exe loaders at best. They are cheaters, not hackers.

10 Man Squad getting Ghosted On?...

Nevermind me then, Zeet. I apparently misinterpreted that. Then again, as cowardly as that my be, it's more or less a "legit way to play the game". Not the ghosting, the big KOS groups I mean. I don't like it, but well ... no one is invincible.

10 Man Squad getting Ghosted On?...

"Morally Rewarding" Also want to mention that this started because you said ghosting was fair against large groups of players...

10 Man Squad getting Ghosted On?...

Ghosting is nasty but I still preffer to play with ghosters then with an admin of private server and his friends.

Being killed by server hoppers ruining game

Lol I think I just ran into you! Northeast airfield swore I heard a shot but not to sure - looted all the buildings. Opened the door of the last one to hail of bullets - nothing hit ran around and climbed up the traffic control tower and that's when I got hit so god knows where he was shooting from. Rested and repaired myself about 10 mins and then waited another 15 but there was no sign. Sorry I had to go after that - the kitties needed feeding and I was not about to go AFK. Very clever leaving all the loot untouched. I had to eat about 6 cans of food and 2 of my water bottles to heal. Also fair play for not ghosting as I was pretty messed up and could hardly see anything.
  12. So last night me and a big group of people had a checkpoint set up at 3 Valleys so that we could take shoes and give out Sodas/Pops. While we were doing this we were fired upon and myself along with another group member was killed. I know this is part of the game and I am not complaining. After retrieving my equipment, almost all of my friends had been wiped out.. there were 10 of us. We would locate a person, and after taking a shot at him, missing or making contact, they would " Ghost " ( Server Hop ) so that they could bandage up and move to a different building to cheat. After everyone in my squad had been killed, I managed to make my way back to Kam and then cut across the road into the mountains and back up to 3 Valleys. ( These people may have had hacks because they were picking people of 100's of Meters away with M4's ) I made my way back up to 3 Valleys and caught two people off gaurd. Turns out they were the Ghosters, and apparently there were 3 all together. I killed the 2 members I caught off gaurd, and then somehow got Sniped in the courtyard from the mountainside, and if you know the map then you know you can't be hit in that position because there is a house there. The point of this was to tell a story that I had fun experiencing, and also to raise awareness for Ghosting because it isn't really that fair, Thanks
  13. Camping is not viable game tactics now becouse of ghosting yeah.

Being killed by server hoppers ruining game

Hey buddy that's called ghosting, we're just talking about server hoppers right now.

    Unconscious Cam

I think once a player fells unconsciouss he should *not* be able to see what's going on around him. It's a ghosting exploit for the unconscious players giving intel to their friends about enemy position and it would be nice if it gets disabled.

    Is a Hive necessary ?

Ideally I'd like both public hive and private servers. I hate server hopping and ghosting, but love having one persistant character who can change servers at will. A couple of benefits of the public hive are: Trading/medics - Within the hive players can request medic help to the server they are in trouble, on or meet with other players to trade in game items - even setting up trading posts on specific servers as in the mod. Events - There have been times in the past when events have been scheduled on specific servers and anyone was invited, even attempts to lock down and make safe areas of the map for a period of time. This sort of thing can only really work with the hive as servers have limited spaces and everyone who wanted to participate would have to start as a Bambi. The primary benefit for the hive I think is being able to meet up with people (or ruin peoples' day), it makes it as if we are all potentially on the same map.

    Is a Hive necessary ?

I think the public hive is nice, because playing solo I'll play with a UK ping, with friends I might play with a larger ping so that we can share the lag difference somewhat... that said I spend hours trekking across the map to meet up with people after going on a solo jaunt somewhere and leaving them in Olsha the night before. Also what happens if your usual server is full at peak times but otherwise empty? I do think the public hive needs to be more restrictive though...basically stop letting players swap back and forth as they choose and make them join a queue and be put in a server designated to them by the game: Make them play in a server with more players (stops people avoiding others for easier movement around the map), make them join servers with less loot nearby (to prevent server hopping), don't allow them to rejoin a server they just left (to prevent ghosting)...but first fix the desync...cuz I can't even see bandits on my screen if they have more than 4 medkits/ammox boxes/protective cases and come within 500m - once my hotbar stops working I log out or I die :(

    Dear Snugglesworth

They ghosted twice. We killed one as he loaded in. The second ghost was across the street. The church wad empty when we closed the doors, then one guy comes out begging us not to shoot. It was a ploy. They had the window covered so as soon as he ran out, bullets came flying in the window. Perhaps his view gave him an advantage but him and his buddies were definitely ghosting us more than once. That's why we simply left.

    Dear Snugglesworth

not having been there cant say for sure on anything lol but id say if they were hacking they wouldnt need to ghost because they could just teleport.. As for seeing someone up high from street level id guess your playing 3rd view server?? If so try for your self adjust your field of view as far back as it will go now when you lean forward it raises much much higher you would be amazed how high it can be raised lol Hence i only play (when i can ) on first person servers lol Oh desync can make a person seem to be ghosting infact i read nothing conclusive of cheating at all well except you admitting to combat logging. Again i wasnt there so i am guess based of what you have written and what i have experienced lol

Way to prevent server hopping for loot

    http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/163756-devs-easy-efficient-fixes-for-combatlogserverhop-eg/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/164160-idea-to-stop-server-hopers/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/162884-how-to-properly-eliminate-server-hopping-ghosting-and-combat-logging/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/163699-an-easy-fix-to-prevent-server-hopping/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/162679-server-hopping-ideas-and-more-here-dayz-sa/ http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/164691-a-way-to-reduce-kos-combat-logging-ghosting-server-hopping/
  21. Sinphaltimus

    Dear Snugglesworth

Last night in Elektro was intense. After several fire fights and survivors killed, 3 pals and myself hold up in a building across from the church. That's where you and your buddies come in. First you use pantless freaks to try and lure us out. Not gonna happen. We are hunkered down and ready for a fight out of here. Yes we are patient. We were discussing plans to carry their fight to the end until you did something stupid. You or one of your pals tried to ghost us and got killed immediately. This seemed to puss you both off because that's when the insults started. At that moment you lost all credibility with us.but we decided to stick it out even further. We wet considering ghosting you back but decided to see if we had another way out. One of us runs across the street to close the church doors. He does so and attempts to return when one of you guns him down. Then you verbally assault us about his loot. We are discussing what to do next. That's when you ghost into the church. I suppose you thought one of us hiding in there or something. I even let you leave the church unscathed. You continue your verbal abuse and antagonizing demeanor. When we stop responding you start calling out our positions and guns we are holding saying over and over how you can see us. We are on the 3rd floor, you are street level. How you knew all this I cannot say but at that point we wrote you guys off as hacking ghosting losers. The only thing we could do is cover ourselves against another ghost attempt and not respond to you which obviously pissed you off. Is a hail of gun fire you took out one of us. This is not the experience we wanted. We wanted fair clean fights to the death. Your cheating ways will not be satisfied with the test of our gear. We combat log out because that's all you deserved. I'm on the same server still. No longer in the heart of Elektro. I will work my way in about the same time as last night's ordeal. I hope to find you pantless again. Gonna shove a bullet up yer pooper.
  22. I think it comes down to a lack of consequences maybe because of public hive, no sense of community and no way to find and take revenge on that person if you met the same people on a server regularly and one backstabbed you would remember not to trust him next time. I think it should be 1 char per server if you jump to a new one you have to start fresh spawn on coast this would remove Ghosting and server hopping for loot also.
  23. Pretty much all a server admin can do is reboot the server, and change it's name (but there are rules for that as well). Rule 12 won't apply as server jumping/combat logging/ghosting are not seen as exploits with SA ATM, except by some over zealous admins. The fact you were kicked within 30 seconds of joining would indicate that they aren't relying on solid evidence to boot, just user name. Admins can only kick, there is no functionality to allow admins to ban ATM, unless they have hacked the server code. Report them and have them and/or their server shutdown if it is indeed ignoring the rules: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/158966-dayz-standalone-server-hosting-rules-server-reporting/
  24. Roshi (DayZ)

    Roshi's suggestions...

This thread is to throw a bunch of ideas in one place with synopses. Will add as I go (for better ideas anyways - not the embarrassing ones). Forgive the vanity… My core belief about DayZ is that you should be afraid of three things in equal measure - other players, zombies and the environment. Game mechanics: Medical System: I have a medical background and so these are hopefully plausible. 1)Treating yourself (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/161763-medical-system-for-dayz-part-1-%E2%80%93-self-treatment-of-wounds/) - can assess and manage your wounds in the inventory screen. 2)Treating others (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/161874-medical-system-for-dayz-part-2-emergency-care-for-other-players/) – a separate ‘treat others’ screen like inventory. Able to take some vitals (some requiring appropriate equipment). Advanced life support. Based in reality but simplified++. Two hands: (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160055-two-hands/#entry1607360) Instead of the generic ‘Hands’ part of the inventory, why not have two hands (left and right). Important for bimanual tasks and possibly crafting. Rapid reloading: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/160752-rapid-reload/ Just a thought... an alternative reload which is faster but makes you drop the magazine. Speed of reloading either way improves with practice (rapidly at first then slowly, but should start off pretty rubbish and slow). Could also add in fumbling/dropping new magazine for new characters - to simulate lack of weapon familiarity. Audible (vs text) cues for pain, hunger, thirst... http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/165006-replace-written-status-cues-with-verbal-thoughts/ Replacing the text cues at the bottom left with quality, voice-acted verbal cues (largely heard only by the player and not others - i.e. in your head - but with more intense sensations like pain, your character may actually vocalise). Ankle sprains, lighting, running with head turned, footwear... http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/165564-running-on-rough-terrain-sprained-or-broken-ankles-boots-and-making-adequate-light-usefulessential/ The idea is to make the choice of footwear more about trade offs, not just going along until you find pristine combat boots or the like. Also aims to make a using a light source more important for night play. What animations would add depth and immersion... http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/165460-what-animations-would-add-depth-and-immersion-to-the-game/ I like animations as that add realistic time frames for performing an activity that shouldn't be instantaneous in a game like DayZ, and other players can see what you are up to. This thread is after ideas from the floor but also offers a few of my own. Inventory and equipment ideas: Inventory squares & Vest pockets/variability: (http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/164736-inventory-space-same-capacity-but-4x-number-of-squares/) Divide each square as implemented currently into 4 smaller squares to allow odd shaped items not to take up a full square or rectangle, and tetris-style fitting of kit into bags. Vests should have discrete pockets rather than being a generic storage space. Additive sounds: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/163672-additive-sounds/ The sounds produced by each bit of kit is additive, making you more or less audible to other players and zombies depending on your kit. Possible gear interactions also (e.g. rifle knocking against water-bottle). Half-full waterbottles make a sloshing noise. Item - Camelback: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/163922-item-camelback/ Activating headlamps, flashlights and bipods with hotkeys: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/159356-hot-keys-for-flashlights-bipod/ And a bit more controversial… Stimulating an emergent economy: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/164127-how-to-stimulate-an-emergent-economy-in-dayz-discussion/ Should have called it stimulating more emergent trade but anyways… One server, one character: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/162584-should-you-only-have-one-character-per-server/ An imperfect idea for ending server-hopping, loot-farming, ghosting and chlamydia… Semi-persistent camps: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/163017-semi-persistent-camps/ You set up a camp, when you log out it persists for a set period of time (unless another player comes within a set distance during that time and can loot it if they find it). An imperfect attempt to deal with the issue of your camp (or later on perhaps fortress) persisting while your character does not - met with resounding silence. I now prefer the idea of persistence with a one character per server and increased undergrowth/opportunities for camouflaging your camp (will probably do this as a suggestion). Providing tools to convert structures such as the stranded ship into a base or trade-post: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/166133-how-could-the-stranded-ship-be-converted-into-a-base-or-trade-post/ I think the stranded ship would make a perfect site for a trade centre (such as seen in Fallout 2 or STALKER:Call of Pripyat. Keen for other peoples input. Finally, some online books: Human survival in extreme environments... https://am4wuhz3zifexz5u.onion.to/Library/English/Oxford_Univerity_Press_USA/0195165012.Oxford.University.Press.USA.The.Biology.of.Human.Survival.Life.and.Death.in.Extreme.Environments.Sep.2003.pdf A great (but involved) read for those interested in how the human body deals with and adapts to extreme environments with information regarding how man-made tools assist survival. Really good. Combat Life Saver manual (link courtesy of xRann - see below): http://www.me.ngb.ar...tion_C_ALMS.pdf Military combat life saver instruction manual which fits pretty damn well with my idea of a useful in game book that could be used as a resource for budding medics if the medical system is upgraded to warrant it.
  25. the other day, my friends and i cornered a player and were about to have a little fun with him until he suddenly logged out and disappeared which was very annoying because we would have immediately killed him and looted his gear if we had known. i believe there should be some kind of obvious visual clue that a player displays to alert others nearby of when they are logging out: log out animation: character lays down into a sleeping position log out timer: 20 seconds log out abilities: can see surroundings, can cancel log out (see log in animation/timer) log out effects: vulnerable until timer expires and logs, cannot move or perform actions in tandem, there should also be a log in animation and timer: log in animation: character enters server in a sleeping position and wakes up log in timer: 10 seconds log in abilities: can see surroundings log in effects: vulnerable and cannot move or perform actions until timer expires this would be beneficial in many ways: - adds realism - reduces KOS: players can track and disable others without fear of being logged away from - reduces combat logging: loggers will be vulnerable to their combatants during the log out timer - reduces ghosting: (1) ghosts will be vulnerable to their would-be victims during the log in timer (2) will take longer to jump to empty server and then back, giving more time for others to move away - reduces server hopping: (1) makes it take longer to hop between servers (2) hoppers will log out away from locations where zombies spawn, primarily around loot please note that the length of the timers are up to discussion and balancing. EDIT: to reflect leftcrusade's comments. if a player cancels their log out, they automatically begin the log in cycle x2: thanks to the mod who moved this into the right category
