I agree, it's addictive - I can see me getting tired of it at some stage - but that's the beauty of playing the Alpha - new content will come along relatively often, I'm just finishing my tour of towns on the map with my current character then I'll take a break until a new release comes out (maybe wait for vehicles) until then hone my gunning and axe skills - need to practise PvP which will keep me interested for a few more weeks. All Good :)

when vehicles are implemented people will still complain about it just like they do for 3PP
BL1P replied to gamer222's topic in General Discussion
It will be fine as 3PP:OFF servers exist now so just play on them if you don't want third. If third is off its off in vehicles as well. On a side note PIP is in the .cfg so maybe they have integrated PIP from arma3 into DayZ, I hope so :) Working wing mirrors etc :P PipQuality=2; -
Rolling Update Rev. 0.30.114008
Rufmemory replied to Hicks_206 (DayZ)'s topic in News & Announcements
what the hell is wrong with server hopping ? if you even think about dealing with it, then why dont you speak about those counteless and useless loot like shotgun shells, books, pencils, paper. seriously why are they even there if there isnt any proper use .... and plz dont fix combat log, server hop yet ... let us at least have vehicles, and be able to build bases before you fix any of that (BTW YES I KNOW ITS ALPHA I AM 100 % aware of it but as an alpha tester im giving my pure and honnest opinion, not really complaining) peace -
I like that ye olde piece of shit feeling when it comes to cars in dayZ. A bit of a mix wouldn't be too crazy though, anything new should be rare though. I would like to see manual cars and maybe even cruise control for the newer ones. Military vehicles should be quite a bit rarer and usually have more repair work to be done to get them into working condition.

Dayz Standalone will not survive without epoch style base building

ninja'd by above :) EVELOPMENT ROADMAP DayZ is currently in early alpha and we see a lot of work ahead of us in order to make it the true authentic multiplayer experience we want it to be. Current version is including only small subset of game mechanics and serves mostly as test bed with core technology that should serve as basis for future additions and improvements. Currently planned key future features are: Playable vehicles Wide variety of native animal life Player created constructions in the environment Extensive interactions with the environment and crafting options Streamlined user actions and interface Upgraded graphics and physics engine (including ragdoll, etc.) Control and animations expanded and improved for fluidity Support of user mods We estimate that reaching Beta version with all key features present will take more than one year from current stage. All features and plans listed here are subject to change, we may add or remove features as seen fit during development process. -

Won't first-person view servers also be first-person restricted in vehicles? Hope so. -
not a bad idea actually. it could add an interesting dynamic. this sense could reveal smoke from campfires, smoke from downed choppers to guide you to their locations. the recent smell of gunfire, exhaust from vehicles, water sources. maybe even the smell of someone blowing ass because they ate too many beans. just follow your nose, it always knows. but alas it would take them a year to code it right. and probably would'nt work out as ideally as we would like.

I mentioned something like this earlier, off of someone else's suggestion for an "intuition" system (that was basically a morality system but we'll not get into that). After a certain amount of time (say ~1 hour), if a corpse is indoors or within a certain radius outdoors, on entering you will get a message that says something about it. The messages could be used for other things as well. Any kind of detail that wouldn't make sense to render a graphic for, but mostly smell. Campfires, vehicles, etc. This way it would take advantage of a mechanic that already exists for other things.

Now you guys are complaining about the OP complaining that people will complain about vehicles. This is almost as bad as Inception. -

Looking around corners and seeing people from behind cover when in vehicles is not a problem so no you will not hear complaining. However you will constantly hear the complaining about tpv until its finally removed. -

How is 3pp on foot different from 3pp in vehicles? It's same shit that should be erased from this game. -
What exactly about the game don't you like? What is too real or you? The game is supposed to be hard. It might take you 2, 3, 4, or 10 lives to learn where to go and where not to go, what to take with you and what to leave. The running or 25+ minutes is temporary until they get vehicles up and working. Fair warning, it will take some work to get a vehicle running. Patience is a virtue in Day Z, don't expect to spawn, grab a gun and blast away right off the bat. Good luck

Mods mods mods. What things could these be. Good or bad. Controversial it seems. Mods can be abusive. This makes Stridey sad. Mods can be lovely and do things rocket hadn't . This can mean vehicles before bohemia agrees. It can mean servers that are absolutely terrible and areant like dayz! Sorry for the above terrible rhyme. Mods are contestable. They can make a game better or destroy it completely. I mean epoch brought load to the dayz vanilla in my opinion. And... It will always be hard to make a game a goood flavour for everyone. So leave vanilla nice and plain, then use some sauce to chaneg the flavour. Some want more horror in dayz. Fine, develop a mod for that. On a side note. All clients mods are most likely advantageous and are not favorable in many peoples eyes.

Exactly, you want to keep coming back to finish basic tasks that take a long time (mostly tedious). Once we get vehicles and all the dynamics I will probably consider it addicting instead of time consuming because you get more done and enjoy it more.

The ability for groups to control towns, block it off and control who enters and leaves. Make it a safezone etc Generators running on fuel can run lighting and water pumps. Oh and obviously the more you try to barricade and control the more you have to defend. It should also be destructible too....maybe driving vehicle's into barricades could destroy them or using axes could put a hole in it to sneak teams in to gain control....this then presents the danger of controlling too big a base. Fuel sources only regenerate every few months to make it scarce. This will encourage people to come out and hunt for it, fight and die for it. With fuel needed to run generators that keep towns running or fuel vehicles...this will create tension, fueds, trades and exploring. Cut trees down with axes for wooden planks or logs to be able to build cabins, treehouses, fences, blockades. Introduction of nature's dangers....leaches in water, ticks or snakes in the grass, all of which occur if you stay in one spot too long and bites can make you sick. This may help to stop people camping areas to Kos. If a sniper wants to camp an area and just kill for shits and giggles then make them work for it....try sniping with no anti-venom etc Add more dirt, mess and destruction around the place. For a place overrun with infected that probably caused mayhem, panic and chaos it looks awfully tidy. It needs fires, crashes, mess, blood...you know, all the things you see in the movies when the shit hits the fan. A bigger variant in buildings. Too many towns and buildings look the same. More realistic looking infected/zombies, more gore and grotesque please. The stones found around could be used to sharpen knives, bayonets and axes. Face scarfs and headwraps in the same colours as the bandanas are. This could then be used to display gang colours lol. Denim and leather waistcoats and a gerry helmet for biker gangs. Would be cool to see other gang type clothing instead of every group looking like military crews.

Only vehicles that would've been used by the Chernarussian Army after the collapse of the USSR, please

I wonder if first person view was mandatory when flying, whether it would help to alleviate the potential issue of making bases and vehicles too easy to spot from the air? This clip gives a good indication of what it might look and feel like:

@funkyfrogjuice It doesnt say anything about vehicles :)

What about ArmA 3 vehicles? Also are they still drive-able in this state?

sceneComplexity=100000; Anything under 500000 will have trouble rendering windows and doorways to see players unless up close. shadowZDistance=90; Might as well disable shadows completely if fighting for FPS. viewDistance=1600; I set mine to 1000 or 1200 since there are no vehicles you have no need to see a player past 1km. preferredObjectViewDistance=1600; Same as above. 1km is more than far enough to see at the moment and will give you the most FPS gain.

DayZBP Epoch: The balance between PvE and PvP
xsnipuhx posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Welcome to DayZBP. Come hang out with us if you're not playing the SA! We now have a forums, you can check it out at http://dayzborderpatrol.freeforums.net/ In the past, we had a really fun 30+ man server and after an extended downtime we decided to start a new Epoch server. This time around we wanted to do everything in moderation. Our new server is now also dedicated, no server host used. - Cities additions and other additions to the map make sense and go with the theme of a "civilization making a come back" dayz. We have not made pitiful attempts at placing high loot buildings all in one area. - We have made full usage of the new Map_EU buildings and will be adding new loot spots. - The view distance on the server has been increased to 6000. Fog has been tweaked and not only adds to gameplay but looks great, especially at night. - PvP events in a constructed arena also take place, with the winner receiving a vehicle, gear, weapons, or a few bricks of gold. - Missions have been added to provide a varied PvE experience with a reward. The missions have a wide variety of loot, enemies, and vehicles. They spawn out in the wilderness or within cities. - The same missions mentioned above can also contain building supplies. - Server bandit ai have been added to provide PvE in additions to an unknown. We have found that players are too used to Dayz and are comfortable taking chances. We want players to think before doing. - The option of being a bandit or a hero is always possible. The ai are not all enemies, some are surviors and if you are a hero they may even give you a bloodbag. - The hero trader has cheaper prices than all the other traders, however the bandit trader has all the explosive gear and a few extra weapons. The trade-off is a more expensive bandit trader. - After restart, the server launches at various times of day. During the last hour of night and 2 hours of dawn ground fog has been added. - Server traders, vehicles spawns, and loot tables have been customized to include as many as possible vehicles, gear, and weapons. Everything has been done in moderation. If someone chooses to take a heavy military approach to the server they can, however if someone wants to take a survival approach they can as well. - Admins are generally reachable in-game or in our teamspeak. - Other notable features include: Improved base building(no maintaining), Trader City god mod, C-130 crash sites, Auto-Refuel, Self blood-bagging at hospitals and ambulances, deployable bike with a toolbox, and name tags when close to another player. Right now we have a small population server and anyone willing to invest time in our server will be receiving a small "welcome kit" which is basically enough supplies to start building a small base. We do not accept donations to get gear, that is garbage and if you do that, you're garbage. Instead just play here and have fun with us, that's payment enough. We Currently have only 2 admins: Derek and Mintypie. Any reports of cheating or abuse will be taken seriously. Come join us at 64.94.238.119:2302Teamspeak 64.94.238.119 As an FYI: I am Derek if you join the server.
