can this thread be locked yet? nothing interesting is being said, and people are being petty wankers to each other. there will be no PvE only settings, also i would like to add that there will be no minimap, no killstreaks, no spawn with guns, no more than 100 vehicles on the map, no skateboards, no generic ammunition for assault rifles, no jetpacks, no hovercrafts, no board games added to the loot tables, no iphones, no illegal drugs, no psytrance, no adult nappies, no reality tv shows on dvd, and certainly no popping and/or locking. /motherfucking thread.

ideally dayz standalone full release version, when it arrives sometime no doubt in 2015/16 will contain the following... 1 - Persistent storage/stashes for player loot and gear and player bases/camps 2 - 1000's of zombies per server including roaming hordes. 3 - animals, lots for hunting and eating. 4 - More loot in more places including the car wrecks and every enterable building type, lots and lots more than we see now to prevent the need for server refresh restarts every 4 hours and whole maps getting cleared out. 5 - vehicles and vehicle parts. 6 - 60+ players per server 7 - Other added mechanics/items/features which currently haven't even been concieved 8 - Game performance optimized giving at least 40+ FPS in cities for players with average P.C.'s on medium settings I can't wait, I hope they manage to deliver all of the above and perhaps more. The elephant in the room for me is optimization and performance, how will they manage to squeeze that kind of improvement out of the engine while adding all these features and sheer volume of items which will put massively increased strains upon servers and players P.C.'s, all of which are currently struggling to cope with no where near the levels of burden the above list implies should be coming in the future? Can they deliver? or will they have to compromise, if so where will they compromise? Will we ever see player stashes? Will we ever see good performance for average P.C.'s? Is 60 + players per server just not gonna happen? Will zombie numbers ever reach the levels we all dream about? Will we see massive hordes? Are servers doomed to restart every 4 hours for ever? Because surely miracles just don't happen and there must be a limit to what is possible. Discuss...

Where are the Remains/Bodies? Wheres the horror? To be added?
Turk (DayZ) posted a topic in General Discussion
Please do not bother replying with "hurr durr it's ALPHA". This post is meant for discussion & is not intended as a requests complaint the only request is you be sensible & provide links etc to back up your statements if not an opinion. At very least watch the video linked at the bottom so you know how much I am aware of what is intended in future patches. If you have evidence of proposed Immersive Decor please provide it no matter what format it is in be it Tweet, Interview or An expo you tube. I'd like to see it all. . Isn't a Zombie Apocalypse a horrific event? So wheres the horror? I'd assume a Zombie apocolypse would leave more than just survivors and Zombies and a few scattered vehicles so where are the bodies and parts? Arms? Legs? More Blood n guts. Wheres the horror? Immersion is a word used a lot when discribing DayZ yet when it comes to the actual world it actually doesn't FEEL like a Zed apocolypse atm. (Nor did/does the Mod) More Zombies models? additional Body parts & additional Dead to search. Wheres the Zombie that you walk past thinking its truely dead that then lunges for you, dragging itself across the ground as it has no legs? or that essential Zombie jump scare from searching a body for items with the possibility that it may just bite your ass at any minute... Seeing a chewed on leg or an arm here & there gives the house you have just entered a "story". A story that someone actually did live there once rather than yet another dull area to search. DAYZ NEEDS MORE CHARACTER, MORE OF ITS OWN STORY. Aswell as Immersive Decor how about Lootable Corpses & ©Zleepers! The addition of Loot able corpses could add a much needed element of surprise & jump scare fear potential by having "zleeper" zeds. (Zleeper tm, trademark ©Turk xD ) To explain what I mean by "© Zleeper":I'll provide a scenario to explain::- You are desperate for water or food that corpse is likely to have something of use, suns going down but its not so dark, just yet, to need a flashlight, you hear gunshots nearby (lol atmosphere) so you want to keep out of sight, you crouch, duck into the shadows & slowly sneak up to the corpse. You rapidly start searching through its pockets mindful of being shot in the head any second... then BAM an ear piercing scream you almost soil yourself, maybe a little wee wee ;P but you won't tell that part of the story back at camp... that bloodied corpse ex.person isn't actually dead!!! It lunges at you with ferocious velocity ..... did it knock you over- does it grab you or miss, are you able to draw your gun or grab your bat fast enough to beat it off? Are you scathed? bleeding? Sh1t it's still dragging itself toward you!! Doesn't matter you've scored a set of keys for that nearby 4x4............ Someone quite rightly pointed out after reading this Why on earth would you risk searching a corpse that is most likely a Zombie? Damn good point. So I proposed as an incentive to search corpses (aside from finding possible high tier non military items such as rare ammo or meds etc) the best most likely way to gain access to vehicles you'd need to find the keys on the dead... Not only does this give incentive it ties in logically where you would actually find keys. Very very unlikely that vehicles would have the keys in them. So who has the keys? If you want that sweet 4x4 you gotta risk something to get it. Go search the dead "farmer". You want that Chopper or that Military Jeep? You go search the "pilot" or "driver" whose laying dead(?) over there and maybe just maybe not disturb a Zleeper!!! Want a boat? You search the "sailor" modeled zombie eh I mean dead guy. ^_^ Sounds fun to me, no? A classic example of this would be the Policeman you search, after you both crash avoiding a Zombie on the road, in the beginning of the Walking Dead by TellTale games. ______________ Are there enough Zombie types? Just isn't enough, especially when theres preciouis little evidence of it other than a few very similar looking dead folk walking about. How many Zombie models are there exactly? 3? 4? with a few hair color changes. Nah thats not good enough. Sorry. I must admit I'm concerned about this as I remember hearing that there won't be anymore Zombie models than what we know of already. (see video below) Please tell me I'm wrong. Literally show me evidence via discussions, interviews etc or expo you tube vids anything that states there will be more variety. . NB : Before commenting "Its alpha" at least watch the video below at the link provided. Dean talks a lot about items in the video below (a must see btw) but no mention of body parts and worryingly states there will not be more Zombie models other than shown!?! DayZ Standalone - Rezzed 2013 Developer Sessions - YouTube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKwMVPETfs0#t=3059 So before you hurr durr with "It's Alpha", read a little more, understand the only request I am making is for discussion and that someone provide links to show IF there are any future plans for Immersive Decor. Please, at very least watch the video provided so you may also be aware of what I know about proposed additions so as to not repeat anything already known. I very much would like to hear your thoughts especially if you DON'T think there should be any changes to evidence of a Zombie apocalypse with in DayZ (provide well thought out reasons please). Personally I believe DayZ needs more Blood, Guts 'n' Gore, a LOT more, well maybe some at least. Oh and the odd jump scare. (©Zleepers TM)- 46 replies

Want to Start a Server or Need Help Adding Scripts?? - LOOK NO FURTHER!
cikez replied to prominentalex's topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
Hey prominentalex.. Im unable to PM you so I am asking it here. could you do a custom script for Donor items such as Private Crates/Private vehicles? Let me know. Thanks. -
To an extent; cars that are in shoddy condition should be common, as for vehicles in pristine condition would be VERY rare to find.

Please Vote! Alright, I know that it's early for the topic of vehicles for the Stand Alone but it has been vaguely talked about. I am looking to see what DayZ mod Veterans, as well as Developers think about having "Random Vehicle Spawns" when the time comes for vehicles to be implemented. In my personal experience, I've always found that the way the mod handles vehicle spawns was always too easy. At first I went around finding vehicle spawns without using alternative sources on the internet, such as http://dayzdb.com/map/chernarusplus. This was a VERY big issue for me. I found that with vehicles, even loot spawns, it didn't require players to actually go out and explore - just hop on the band wagon and look up all the spawn points of the vehicles and you were good to go. I am hoping that Developers are considering implementing some actual randomization's to vehicle spawn points and make "Area's" where vehicles "could" spawn throughout the whole map. First of all, my idea was to break each vehicle (from the DayZ Mod) into somewhat realistic area's where you may OR may not find them. For example: Bicycles - Should spawn near or in small shacks anywhere in mid-sized towns or cities. - Bicycles should be very common & be the first kind of transportation you would find. Quads/Dirtbikes - Quads should have random spawns around the map varying from the occasional deer-stand, acreages, and those new deer shacks that have a ramp into it. - Bikes should be located more around small buildings/shacks on acreages. - Fairly common. Tractors - Should spawn randomly in ANY field that has straw bails, farm sites/lean-to's, etc. - Fairly common. Cars - Should spawn exclusively in cities or just outside of city centers with PAVED ROADS leading to them such as: Cherno, Elektro, Berezino, Stary Sobor, Novy Sobor, etc. - Spawn randomly broken down off the side of paved roads or near small houses appropriately. - Fairly common, reduced quantity compared to Tractors, Quads/Dirtbikes & Bicycles. Trucks/Offroads - Should generally spawn in off-road area's such as small towns, random farm sites/buildings, acreages, etc. - Harder to find. URAL/Heavy Trucks - Should spawn at any industrial, quarry or castle site randomly. - Exceedingly rare, tough to fix and maintain. Those are just my opinions. I just feel making vehicle spawn points randomized would make it not only hard but, much more fun. It would definitely bring depth to vehicle hunting when the time comes. I hope I can get some positive feedback about having Vehicle Spawn Point Randomization. What is your opinion? Dev's? Edit: I do realize I did not include aircraft spawns, I am focusing on land vehicles in this thread.

What is your most anticipated feature that is coming in?
bonesnap replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
Loot respawning, followed by more zombies/zombies respawning, followed by vehicles. -
No major rewards, just very subtle, scaleable benefits which increase automatically with each extra day of survival: You can hear slightly better, approaching footsteps etc - you've trained your senses over time You can get a little more meat off an animal, when hunting's back in You can maintain weapons slightly better, condition stays pristine a little longer You take slightly less damage off Zeds, as you know how to handle them You need slightly less equipment to repair vehicles, when vehicles are back in You can last slightly longer on a given amount of food/water

I have notice people complaining or making suggestions about the game, that were answered by the man himself in an AMA about 2 weeks ago. So I will post the main answers here. It's gonna be ugly because of the formatting. Not gonna fix it as there is a lot of Q's and A's. Just decipher it. And I left out a ton of non game related stuff. 1 - Is there any feature you would really like to see in DayZ but is impossible to implement with the current technology? (For example a 15,000 player server on a 30,000 km2 map.) Procedural terrain, limitless environment. I don't think its impossible with current technology but I don't think it's possible within the scope of the project. 2 - Were there some other title candidates or was DayZ the first to pop up? There was some latin "city of the dead" that I used for a mod I started making for ArmA when it first came out. It was my first mod, ever. I never finished it but me and a few friends played it. I shelved it as too hard but the basic idea grew into DayZ much later. Jay-Z's lawyers tried to get us to stop using DayZ and change it to ZDay, actually. We declined. But it did make me laugh. Can you share some new milestones you and your team have put on your road map? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 134 points 16 days ago hunting, camping, bow and arrow, vehicles [–]Important_Opinion 441 points 16 days ago* Hi Rocket, thanks for the AMA. Have you considered putting something into the game that would take time teamwork and resources to achieve? I was thinking of things such as getting a power station running, fortifying buildings, Clearing a disused mine shaft etc. I don't expect these would be the best examples of what I'm trying to suggest, just some examples to give an idea. Keep up the great work. permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 657 points 16 days ago Yes, this kind of endgame stuff is quite key to what we want to do. However, in order to do this we have to perfect the architecture which is what we are doing now. Certainly I think underground bases and advanced vehicles will allow some of this really exciting and "eve" style play. [–]smithl2 102 points 16 days ago how is the name pronounced? day-zee? day-zed? is it pronounced like the plant dasy? or as one syllable like Days? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 249 points 16 days ago Day-Zee. I adopt NATO standards of naming, spelling, and pronunciation with nearly everything I do. It's just simpler that way. [–]tagus 43 points 16 days ago How did the DayZ snowball of popularity start? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 141 points 16 days ago 4chan. that's right. 4chan. [–]-PA-Mikhail 534 points 16 days ago Hi Dean. Question: Is there a slightest possibility for you to read the Consolidated Suggestions Presentation from your beloved Klingon.. I mean, Russian Community. We worked many noths and days to compile it. It received hundreds of votes up and will be a huge inspiration of interesting features for you. Please, at lest say "Forget it. I don't need it" or "STFU Go away" :) Of course a hundred people who worked on it would be happy to hear some of your thoughts on the document. Thanks in advance! permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 553 points 16 days ago Yes, I've been reading it as we're preparing our roadmap for 2014. [–]datMoka 149 points 16 days ago Hey Dean, thanks for doing this! I remember I heard that you wanted to improve upon the VOIP in DayZ. Would you care to elaborate on how you aim to improve the current system? I'm also looking for a suggestion. I'm currently at University learning games programming and I'm wondering what would be your recommendation for the best technology/language to learn? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 192 points 16 days ago Well kind of everything. The quality. Allowing more types (whisper etc...). How zombies react to it. And also particularly the animation and how it plays when your character opens his mouth to speak. [–]Cultor 239 points 16 days ago* Game engine question ! ARMA games are known for there 'not so great performance' on even high end pc's. The engine is very CPU intensive compared to other game engines which utilize GPUs better. Is your team going to improve the engine to utilize more of that pc master race GPU power ? Thank you for your time! permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 354 points 16 days ago Yes. It is easier for us to optimize DayZ in some ways, because dayz's focus is very narrow. ArmA is an incrediblegame and ArmA3 is no exception. It has massive scope and a huge demand on AI and many other things. Many of these things can cause problems for MP gaming, and that's what I'm all about really. We have reports from Intel, AMD/ATI, and Nvidia. These give us ideas for how to optimize the client. Let's just say there is huge room for improvement. permalinkparent [–]Storm2you 96 points 16 days ago Will you continue to add content even after the full release of DayZ? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 160 points 16 days ago Yes. There will be content updates and such for DayZ for a long time, I believe. However that would be up to Bohemia for the most part. I'm not sure I would (not want to) be super involved with that. [–]James246 323 points 16 days ago How far away are we from the following; 1) Vehicles 2) Bases permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 383 points 16 days ago Vehicles will be done based on the architecture we are doing for items/weapons now (i.e. attachments). So it's in progress really. We are replacing the physics system for items (throwing, etc...) and this new middleware will be used for vehicles also. Bases will take longer. Barricades will happen first. [–]xordyboy 44 points 16 days ago Why do i keep on finding rotten kiwis in dayz ? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 152 points 16 days ago Because our designers think it's hilarious to pick on me :( [–]KimmoUK 74 points 16 days ago* Can you tell us if there are any plans for aircraft in DayZ? If so, what do you have in mind? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 226 points 16 days ago Yes. I think helicopters and small aircraft will be important. But they should be very complex to maintain. permalinkparent [–]bartjelol 117 points 16 days ago Hey Dean, What do you think of shelters, are you planning to insert different shelters then just tents? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 212 points 16 days ago We have a plan for camping. Playing that mod for Skyrim (survival mod, forget its name) is GREAT inspiration and I hope we can do everything it has. [–]HankHillWearingACape 13 points 16 days ago Will we ever see ragdoll physics in game, or is that just a pipe dream? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 35 points 16 days ago Ragdoll is confirmed. We already have it working in our internal version. [–]mikejoneswho2 13 points 16 days ago What are you most excited for regarding DayZ features? What makes you the most nervous regarding DayZ features? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 26 points 16 days ago Ragdoll and bow/arrows :) Most nervous about server performance. Always nervous about that, always will be. [–]mjmax 41 points 16 days ago And the removal of mouse acceleration? Please? Just a confirmation that it's coming ever. permalinkparent [–]rocket2guns[S] 97 points 16 days ago Mouse accel can't be removed without redesign. So we are going to redesign how it works, there's no target date on that. [–]SilverLlama 37 points 16 days ago I've been playing the experimental build and can only say. The most important thing in the game right now is the need for loot to respawn. Any ETA/are you already working on this issue? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 77 points 16 days ago Yes, this is a work in progress - tied with a central loot economy and persistent objects [–]Mackaelroni 14 points 16 days ago What feature are you most excited about and why? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 31 points 16 days ago Bow and Arrow. Because I LOVED going around hunting in Skyrim. [–]Assault_Shaker 13 points 16 days ago How often do you just hop into a random public server to play with randoms? Personally, which do you prefer: first person only servers or third person servers? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 41 points 16 days ago Quite often. I prefer first person. I was hosting a game of Europa Universalis over the weekend, and some randoms joined the game and asked "do you guys play DayZ?" That was pretty cool. I think it's pretty cool they played a game with me for about three hours and have no idea I was actually the person who made DayZ :) permalinkparent [–]lets4dead 6 points 16 days ago The deer is complete? I saw some pictures, and a video of it, they have better AI? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 11 points 16 days ago Deer is complete but needs animations fixed. permalinkparent [–]MaNoIN 31 points 16 days ago How long untill you make Dayz SA "playable"? I mean, cars, base buildings, lots of weapons, etc. Today we are just testing a very small scratch, of what this game can be. Sorry about my really bad english im brazilian. permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 92 points 16 days ago about six months. [–]rocket2guns[S] 16 points 16 days ago Nathan, one of the senior artists at Sidhe Interactive in New Zealand where I worked, said I "looked like a glen" on my first day as an associate producer there, working on the speed racer game. Eventually a guy called glen came back to work so instead of everyone calling me glen, they called me rocket glen. Then rocket 2 guns. The name stuck! permalinkparent [–]Evil_This 7 points 16 days ago kiwilogic permalinkparent [–]rocket2guns[S] 18 points 16 days ago yeah nah permalinkparent [–]Evil_This 13 points 15 days ago Great. This is the shithole comment of mine you choose to respond to? Now I feel like a fucking retard. I CAN MAKE GOOD COMMENTS ROCKET. I SWEAR. permalinkparent [–]rocket2guns[S] 15 points 15 days ago lol. i was doing a kiwi. [–]TommyBozzer 3 points 16 days ago Hi Dean, Any chance of a console release in the foreseeable future? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 7 points 16 days ago Yes, quite likely. Although they're not as attractive as people think, small market compared to steam and lots of complications. [–]XIIISlaughters 8 points 16 days ago Hey Dean, probably a combined 2000 hours in Arma/DayZ Mod/Standalone over the past few years. Ive met friends, found entertainment (the streamers, 42nd represent), and even learned from the crazy experiences those games bring. I can't thank you enough for that, you're a bigger influence on me then I'm proud to admit to. Less of a question, more of a reassurance: high tier military loot aren't going to be a thing right? At least without a severe balance. I might cry if I get killed by an AS50 at over 1000m again. permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 86 points 16 days ago Once improvised weapons, bow and arrow, throwing items is in - we will dramatically turn down military style weapons spawn rate. They will be incredibly rare. [–]TheDuckPortal 2 points 16 days ago Is there going to be any craftable weapons in DayZ? Like Bows made from wood? If so, how far into DayZ should we expect them? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 11 points 16 days ago Yes. Crafting is a key current design focus and in each update I would expect you will see more and more. Bow and arrow is also a priority for us. [–]Facetious_Otter 2 points 16 days ago Hey Dean; What are the goals of the Stand-alone that are different from the mod? i.e. what will be in the stand-alone that ISN'T in the mod? permalink [–]rocket2guns[S] 4 points 16 days ago Gosh, I mean. A huge amount. See our roadmap we will release soon! Basically most of it would be impossible without the dramatic engine changes we made.

The difference is GTA5 is not a survival game. There are many upcoming features that will add content to the game and consequently give players more things to do. These new "things" to do will not only give players a choice of something to do besides KoS, but also could directly influence people to not KoS. Some examples: 1. More (dangerous) zombies will make people hesitant to fire shots if it will put them in danger. 2. Sickness, when incorporated, will make it so players may be more interested in trading for antibiotics, water purification tablets, alcohol tincture, disinfectant, clean rags, and vitamins, all of which are now useless in the game. If you're sick and kill someone, this shit will prob be ruined and you'll die of sickness. 3. As a result of #2, inventory will be more difficult to manage. That's a bunch more items to carry without actually having more space to carry it. This influences sharing/trading. 4. Warmth. If player temp. is added I think it won't be so easy to just sit on a hill and camp without taking shelter/making a fire every now and then. Even people who still KoS will have more to deal with than just hunger. 5. Vehicles. From what I understand it won't even be possible to repair them by yourself. Just some examples. I agree with OP wholeheartedly. KoS will always be part of the game, as it should be, but I do think it will die down a bit when people have more to do.

A new idea to stop the "kill-on-sight" mentality
Window Licker replied to Beetlejuice (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
KoS is something that any "system" will not really get rid of, worst case scenario the idea's proposed increase KoS to prevent people from having functioning vehicles and trained medics etc. If I could lay claim to resources in this fashion aka by making it so no-one else can use them why wouldn't I? a small clan could KoS everyone and harvest all the car's, helicopters, books and beans on the server. In stage 2 of this scenario the clan would have all the books and the members would have players who don't participate in active combat because they have read all the books and they are too valuable to lose. By this point the only people who could knock them out of dominance on the server is another clan who has raped a different server in a similar fashion, killing everyone who dares set foot on it. While you mean well those of you reading this know it's exactly what would happen, in DayZ we are not contained by normal rules and as much as we'd like to think everyone will play nice, a portion will see a way to rise above the peons and carve out a nice little paradise in a zombie apocalypse. While Dean has not said it directly, he has said that he want a rise in improvised weapons and reduced spawns for the traditional gun's but that is something we will have to wait for some time to see how it plays out. -
A new idea to stop the "kill-on-sight" mentality
xRann replied to Beetlejuice (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I'll state again, the game is both immersive and meta. Player knowledge == character knowledge. You cannot then limit someones character while not limiting their actual knowledge. Examples: I know landnav and Chern almost like the back of my hand. My character does because I do even when he's a freshspawn. How in your system, would you limit this? I'm a medic. How could you limit one area of my skillset while still remaining immersive and meta? Once vehicles are added, how could you limit an actual mechanics knowledge to make repairs? Or a pilot to fly My point is, you cannot limit a characters knowledge and still remain the same game. The entire premise and sandbox style of the game would be altered and changed. -
If and when vehicles comes in SA; I want to be ecoterrorist and try to ruin all cars.

When do tents arrive? (Sorry of redundant, new here)
Karmaterror replied to catolm's topic in General Discussion
This made me laugh, first hoarding is bad....but not if i find the hoarders stash :) Im a hoarder....had a lot of 5-6 tent camps on the mod. We once made an epic one with 5+ vehicles, the server heli and loooads of tents. Was private so no hopping...all hard work. Having that raided was one of the most emotive moments in any video game iv ever had. I think i spent the next 2 hours of gameplay searching the map edges to get it all back :D -

What is your most anticipated feature that is coming in?
Etherimp replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
I agree totally on air vehicles. Air vehicles serve to give 1 person/group of people the ability to destroy every camp and vehicle on the map in 1 play session. I should know.. My group on the mod controlled all 4 aircraft on a server for 4 months straight... and we were the only ones with any vehicles aside from the occasional ATV or motorbike. The only people who ever raided our base were hackers, until one of our friends eventually betrayed us and C4'd all of our stuff. In short: Heli's give supreme map control. -

drayson replied to Miquinei's topic in General Discussion
I found in the mod that vehicles kind of ruined the map for me. Bicycles and most cars/trucks didn't so much but air vehicles certainly did. Made the map feel so much smaller but I guess it will do that eventually once I am familiar with all the new stuff. Personally I want to see hunting, weather elements that are actually dangerous (namalsk would be my favorite map if it was larger) and base building/fortified houses. -
