Well, helis did not ruin the mod for me and Isn't that the point for having any type of vehicles, to own the map due to your speed. That's how I see it in my opinion.

You must be joking. Not easy to fly and completely own the map in under an hour? I don't know what you are smoking but pass that shit over here. Survival Sim... with modern working unsupported tech that in all reality would be one of the first things to go in the slide to the New Dark Age. Get real. I played the mod from very early to the end and all the end game became was a heli hunt. Control of the air becomes control of the server. That is all. If Rocket is smart he will not kill the end game content by using helis. While the Apocalypse Now feeling is fun and a rush, it messes the meta game up way too much to have a place. Get your heli fix elsewhere. Working vehicles are even a bit of a stretch IMO. Severely limited sources of fuel should be implemented. None of this 500 vehicles and 30 helis - AUTO REFUEL bullshit. -
im more in favor of less military items, mosins and hunting rifles ect should be way more common than military grade weapons( i dont consider a mosin military grade when matched up with current era military weapons) and i sure as hell dont want people running around with thermals. Most people i come across are decked out in military fatigues and gear, when in reality it would be more people in civilian wear. Also i don't want heli's due to the fact that big groups and bandits will use them to control everything and or harass everyone. Vehicles i'm fine with, just not heli's.

Adding character progression in a game like Day Z is dangerous, particularly in the area of over-doing it. I've seen suggestions ranging from a few random perks that characters begin with at spawn all the way to Elder Scrolls style skill points. The danger here is twofold: 1. We don't want to take away from the game's current strengths (or potential strengths once it comes nearer to completion). Gear progression is a huge strength, and adding too complicated a character progression system will decrease not only the importance of gear progression, but also the time developers will be able to spend on gear in general. So the first rule is: not complicated, easy to implement. 2. If we under-do character talents, they become pointless. Having a couple of random perks upon spawn is just that: A one and done roulette that really doesn't offer much in the long run, except perhaps a little easier time in certain situations. Here is my suggestion: Create (depending upon how many 'useable gear themes' are eventually added to the game) 6 - 10 proficiencies with perhaps 3 or 4 tiers. For instance, one proficiency (when vehicles are added) could be mechanical. All new players would start with the lowest tier in each proficiency except for the one that matches his or her 'pre-apocalypse job', which could be either maxed or close to it. The proficiencies would act as modifiers for how efficient and successful a character is when using the gear associated with it. A military proficiency would influence accuracy or weapon modification. Mechanical proficiency would influence the ability to repair and upkeep vehicles and other machines. These proficiencies would raise in tier when the character had attempted them many times, thus allowing characters to eventually max out all proficiencies. This would add much value to character death, as well as give the game a greater sense of progression, and wouldn't be too hard to implement.

Helicopters gave huge advantages to groups in the mod. It allowed massive loot hoarding, which was rather unnecessary on the group's part. It turned the game into a massive loot hoarding simulator when a group got a helicopter- The only thing left to do was fly around, explore, shoot other people, raid people's bases, and accumulate a ton of shit. This is similar to the current project in the Project Zomboid multiplayer; When you give players the ability to take tons of shit, they will take tons of shit. Helicopters allow players to find that shit, and take that shit- even if they don't need it. Project Zomboid doesn't have loot respawns at all (you think DayZ is bad?) and stuff only respawns when the server is wiped and restarted, clean. This causes a rather tricky predicament. On one hand, its realistic, on the other, players who learned about the server before others get a huge advantage, as they can hit the main places, stockpile all the food, and have an axe and a shotgun within 10 minutes. Other players will have trouble finding a plastic bag and a frying pan, because they joined later down the line. Right now, DayZ slightly has this problem, but the massive amount of servers and restarts allows loot to be rather plentiful if you find an untouched town. Helicopters will expand this issue. Vehicles will be hoarded, food will be hoarded, guns will be hoarded, everything will be hoarded. Though the loot respawn will help, clearing out areas will be so much easier for groups and hiding stuff will be so much harder for normal players.

I think what eventually will happen, and this hasn't been confirmed in any way, is that: 1) current map will get bigger, I.e. The northern areas. 2) more maps will be released. First point because when vehicles are released the map will definitely feel smaller no matter what. Second point I believe will fix some of what people don't want to see in the current map. Current map is largely rural and would ridiculous to find lots of military grade equipment and vehicles, however a different map, say city environment for example, would make more sense. 2sense

A poor choice of words on my part, my apologies. Thats more of an internal term that I use to characterize certain play styles, not something that I should use on a forum. My counter measure to that particular play style is to play on a different server. #1 rule of DayZ: Don't get attached to your gear. I promise not to cry on the forum when my camp gets raided and vehicles get stolen/destroyed. I hope that we get armed hueys :) -

heartattacks.... :huh: another useless stuff this game doesnt need how about actually fixing the performance/connectivity problems? how about fixing the lag/delay in movement/combat? how about adding actually beneficial content like vehicles, animals for hunting, more gun variety, more cloths/gear, camo uniforms, more spraypaint, etc? -
I for one don't have a problem with the AS50, per se. But the fact that they don't have anything to ligitimately target in game (i.e. mil spec vehicles/buildings, etc) means that they are not going to be used for anything except KoS from a greater distance. Put in some armoured vehicles and then I'll reconsider my objection.

Hi. This is a Epoch 1.0.4.2 server. I'm not an admin of this server but just a regular player. Im writing here to introduce you this amazing server . I had played with my clan on many many servers but finally this one is the best. Some things about server: 0. Very stable server - no red chains etc... 1. Restart every 6h. 4h day , 2h night. There is a day after every restart. 2. Safe Zones + AntiTheft Backpack 3. Plotpole is needed + No Maintain 4. Side missions with bots every 30min. (many spawns). Many vehicles to take. Armored SUVs , Helis , MV22 , ammo crates etc. 5. You can take clothes from body. 6. SelfBB 7. Autorefuel on gas station + Autorepair for gold 8. Salvage vehicles scripts 9. Towing & Lifting script 10. No Rain + NoFog = more fps <3 11. Kill messages. The solution to hiding cars and things from helis seem to be a tarp ( big guillie suit for your camp or vehicles) would be great give the sewing kit another thing to do. -
Again, another example of a touchy, emotional member of this forum. You point out the flaw in their logic and they insult you. Signs of a fragile ego. What takes more time and effort than fixing/maintaining and fueling a helicopter? Have you ever piloted a heli in the mod? The map is still incredibly large and is not so easy to acquire vehicles. You also forget to realise that the point in having another vehicle when you have a heli is pretty much redundant. As a survival aspect of the game having armed helis makes for an increbily fun experience. Having to hide when they fly over and having one chase you is thrilling? But we just see more and more cry from casuals that want to play a game co-op vs AI.

I had stash points, hides, and caches but we always had a primary base. What the heli cannot see people bumble into looking for loot, which is whatever, you found it good for you. BUT now we're after you with our heli to reclaim what was liberated from us. Every solid team will at one point begin to vive for control, it's just the natural progression. What else is there besides gear, bases, and vehicles? I mean, shit, we even went out and dropped people in the sea to recover the boats just because "Fuck it, why not?". This is exactly why people like myself, Etherimp, AryanBoogeyman, and others are opposed. We know what it will lead to, and like I stated before, It just becomes a battle of attrition for control of the server. That becomes the "end game" because that's the next progressive step.

I've always held the opposite view, that choppers are a bane to the game for the following reason (and if it could get fixed, I wouldn't have an issue with choppers in the game). When you're in a chopper you can literally see through the canopy of forests which makes it the easiest thing ever to spot vehicles and tents. Now assuming these will be added in and the graphical problem isn't going to be fixed, I'd rather not have an easy way to spot where everyone's things are. All you need is a GPS and you can mark every vehicle and tent on the map or just have ur buddies in a vehicle below you moving to search them. People can get pretty inventive with places to hide things on the ground but in the air it's a waste of time.

No moron. Ground vehicles are plenty powerful in that respect (base acquisition). They just take time and effort. Helis completely nullify any kind of effort to acquire any other vehicle. If you want to play a heli flight sim then go play TOH. -

That would be nice. I really miss a stamnia-system. And as soon as there are vehicles, I'd like to be forced to WALK most of the time. You shouldn't be able to carry things like wheels like in the mod, too. You could carry them in your hands to the next vehicle, like we know from the Devblog. -

YOU ALL NEED TO LOAD UP THE EDITOR AND SPEND 30 MINS LEARNING HOW TO DROP A HELI WITH SMALL ARMS FIRE LOL Me when I see a heli......"ohhhh how should I drop this one"....or "heading off map are we.....whats that bearing" Really think the only peeps saying they OP have either A. Never had one and just look to the heli gods flying round in the sky B. Are too afraid to engage....because if they did they would see just how inaccurate a moving helis gunfire is....and how exposed the gunners are. C. A mixture of both, once you've had one.....been sniped while moving quick.....then tried it yourself. You will see they aren't OP or god like. They are infact the most stupid means of transport on high pop servers, for some of the reasons iv already said. From experience, id rather have a silent easy to hide pushbike if the servers 50+ people lol :) That's a remenant from the mod. We have already heard that engines on cars could be broken down as much as having to find spark plugs. They could do the same with the heli, making it a mammoth task to get airbourne. Then they say we will have to maintain vehicles beyond just fuel. So if they make it a bitch to keep running, unless your a big group, could be more trouble than its worth ;) PS...whats the point of using the ToH engine (or parts of it) with the goal of realistic heli controls.....then not put them in :) -

No to Helicopters. Just fucking NO. Besides the ridiculous destruction of immersion (carries heli main rotor assembly in backpack) they are way too EZ mode once operational. Haz heli? Own all camps and vehicles on server. I hope the Rocket man sees sense and has zero aerial vehicles. Unless there is an effective way to camo your vehicles/camps introduced, then I would consider fixed wing aircraft that require a long runway/open space to land in. That is all. :) -
Use the damn search button... and maybe do some research before you post. I know for a fact that there is a video with Dean Hall explaining why vehicles are not in game yet and why they probably won't be in game for a while.

So the military packed up all there helis and equipment, saying "its the apocalypse boys!....this stuff ist allowed to be found by anyone....because this is about survival"? I play arma to have mass engagements with many tanks planes and helis....even naval battles with some frigate mods. Dayz had 1 heli.....1 piece of mill gear that survived, it wasn't easy to get, and it was far from safe....it was just fast :) EDIT - no one is saying they want a huge arsenal of mill vehicles everywhere.....but whats wrong with 1 armed heli as a goal for everyone on the server? Not to mention you have to keep it stocked with Mod) mags if you actually want to shoot regularly ;)
