This is one of the reasons i would like them to put encumbrance and stamina into the game. It should be possible to run out of stamina and drown, and how much weight you are carrying with you should affect how quickly this occurred and how fast you could swim. It would increase the importance of vehicles , boats in this case, drastically. Well, you get wet while swimming, which you dont want in the winter, but people might still resort to swimming to one of the islands (in full combat gear + a rucksack) in the summer if a limiting factor like this wasn't in place.

i do want vehicles now, but thay should work properly first, why can´t thay just make the whole team work on a bike, i will be done fast (Probably) and then everyone will be happy.

I'm getting worried about the future of DayZ, especially with this new H1Z1
xalienax replied to SomeCallMeNomad (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
I think that what were going to see with this new game is that it gives people something "more" on day one. many (myself included) are aggravated, frustrated, and tired of waiting for a trickle of minor additions. Many will rush to a new game that offers some sort of faction system, Bases, and vehicles on day one. *IF* dayZ sa does come full circle and give all that was hoped for and more, then I can see many of the more "hardcore" players returning. as it is right now tho, SA offers disgustingly little as a game- and more and more I feel that "Its just alpha" is used as a generic excuse by devs to drag a** indefinitely when selling games as early releases. -
I would love vehicles sooner rather than later for the simple reason of it opens up more of the map to people. Yeah, you can run up to the northwest airfield now to get gear, but it's tedious so you never see anyone there. You never see anyone in almost any town in the center of the map. Right now it's all Elektro, Berezino, NEAF, and Balota now that tent spawns are working again. Occasionally some fresh spawn killers at Solich and Kami. I just want to have to worry about running into people anywhere. Without vehicles, I can run to the middle of the road in the wilderness and go AFK for 15 min and come back and still be sitting there untouched.

im not sure upcoming features are "positive" to the game
Crazy_Spider replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
Eh, your opinion. While you were inventing your zipper and zamboni, we were busy making blockbuster movies, winning wars, and going to the moon. Sorry buddy. On Topic, as well. I would love to get more immersion, but if we don't have vehicles, I think the arcade fps is a better feel UNTIL we get transportation. -
Is the DayZ Mod better than Standalone?
Mr Sinister replied to TheCookiemob59's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
The mod is great, we started on the SA, got bored to death of it went on to the mod, just keep glancing back at the SA to see if anything else has miraculously been added to stable yet, but, its kinda like watching paint dry in sub zero temperatures. The mod (once you get used to the inventory, salvaging vehicles and every thing else) is great. Get bored of the SA, put on the mod. You probably wont come back on the SA for some time i assure you, just takes a little getting used to. I say its a good buy. -
Its a great idea, also when hotwiring a car, it should take at least a minute to start it, enough time to gather zombies around. It should definetly be "is it worth risking my life taking that car?" situation. Im not a big fan of any vehicles, however cars are on their way, so please make them rare, and all should be in such a bad shape it would take a long time to repair it?
-
As I stated in the very first line, this is not at all a topic urging for vehicles to be added. I only wanted to see others opinions. I chose the 'later' option in the poll, so that would contradict your theory :)
-
I want to see them in late beta. Reason? Well, with vehicles now. Everybody would want it, but only some will. Driving a vehicle will be even more risky. Would ambush gas stations for vehicles and a massive war would occur between those who do and don't have one. Also, with vehicles you tend to just gear up quicker. Driving to the airfields and military bases and just gear up in minutes or help your friends gearing up... Now that they're adding more locations to use. I say that vehicles are out of the question in Alpha
-
According to Rocket's presentation at Rezzed, vehicles are due to be brought in around Q3 (please correct me if I'm wrong, I think it was Q3) of this year. I can wait that long if it would possibly mean taking man hours away from working on things like survival and optimisation. It's not even that long now, we're already in Q2 of the calendar year.

Do you want cars NOW or LATER?
Caboose187 (DayZ) replied to Shad0wH4wk's topic in General Discussion
Sigh, I was making a stab at the opening line of the OP as this is a very well hidden attempt for a "give me my damn vehicles now" thread -
I want vehicles whenever they're finished, regardless of how long it takes

What are your biggest concerns and fears regarding the near/far future of the game?

So after a time spent on Standalone, here are my thoughts.
Countercruel posted a topic in General Discussion
So as we all know, this game is still in early access alpha, and everyone understands that and some even use it as a weapon to defend the game which by all means go ahead. What the problem lies with is the engine and the struggle i and many other people have seen when it has come to making a standalone version of a mod that already had a better foundation then the standalone will ever have even if they did add all the stuff Dean added in his presentation. <--- sad truth. Lets not forget that the Arma 2 engine on the mod is not great either (and i mean that, its annoying aswell), i am looking at this from a unbiased perspective and hope people agree. Ok, lets get to the meat of it, my thoughts just as a gamer and someone who has played DayZ for the last two years. The game feels like a constant battle with the dev team (just look at the struggle they had with the development time just to add the new ui/animations/zombies and backpack/weapon systems. And of course the dev team is small but i feel like they could of achieved so much more if the engine wasnt so hard to push. Early access can be a god send to a new game or a killer, and i currently feel like the early access has killed this game, not because of the battle of the dev times and false and pushed deadlines constantly, but because early access gave the players a chance to experience the whole game through to the end and now ask "so whats next dev team?, because were sitting here with m4's with no vehicles to quickly get around... so im just gonna pop onto a mod of the DAYZ mod and enjoy shooting down helis" thats what we expected some people to say right?. Now, look at where we are now in this game, look at it as unbiased as you possibly can and finally say "this game... should of just remained in mod state and added onto that with the full dev team supporting it". Thanks for your time and i hope some agree to at least one of my points. -
I wouldn't like anything to show above anyone's head whilst aiming at them, would go against the simulation and the struggle I think. I think it's better to not have anything fed to you in this way. To be cautious because you can never know what someone will do and should never trust anyone until proven trustworthy and even then take that feeling of trust with a pinch of salt. That's me anyway lol. Tho I do like the idea of more possible roleplaying being a part of the game. I think more need for co-operation will come with time and as further content is added to the game; vehicles, camps, etc etc. To answer the points you made, at the moment I've never robbed someone because I've never needed to, might have force fed once or twice for the lulz, have met people and asked if they needed anything or any help or wanted to trade but they have always said no they're fine. I don't think there's enough in the game yet to create the community aspect that is missing from the SA that was there in the mod. Once radios work it could become more of a possibility I'd like to think, people can call for help or trade or to report snipers and so on and others can join up in order to react to that for either good or bad. Same with vehicles, that would always add to gameplay and cooperation from others. For two strangers to want to cooperate there usually has to be something either has that the other wants or needs and one having a vehicle and the other needing a lift is a good start.... Got me rambling on now. I hope that KoS always remains but is made less of a knee jerk reaction to everyone and more of a conscious decision. And in the same regard the decision the other way should also become more common when there is more going on that needs cooperation. At the minute all you need to do is get some food and a gun and ammo and then the rest is just glitter. Doesn't need much in the way of cooperation between strangers to get that far so it always comes back to shooting. For now.

The Winchester Dayz Epoch - chernarus 199.116.113.43:2702
SilentKiLLa posted a topic in Mod Servers & Private Hives
The Winchester dayz epoch server at 199.116.113.43:2702. Hey all I have a new server that has only been up for about a month. We need more players. The server has custom areas including the 'AI Stronghold' with tons of loot and vehicles, if you can take the base. A GoldMine that players can collect gold, multiple barracks, a checkpoint between Elektro and Cherno and more. Auto refuel, self bloodbag, AI missions, ai heli and vehicle patrols. The newest addition is the Evap chopper. This is a great script because I know everyone hates that long run back to your body or base to rearm. Check us out at 199.116.113.43:2702. I'm a very active, friendly and helpful admin. -
Spawns On The East, Bet Everyone Thought It Was Stupid...
Katana67 replied to jacobahalls's topic in General Discussion
I'm thinking this may be a bit more advantageous than having folks spawn in the east. Especially with Berezino and Svetlo now beefed up, in addition to the shipwreck. But even in the mod, I felt that the spawns were pretty limited. I rarely spawned north of Solnichny, although I spawned in Kamenka all of the time (which I luuuuuurve). There's an unspoken third of the coast that wasn't used for spawning in the mod (likely due to it being wilderness and thus a high-value area for folks looking to store tents/vehicles). I do fear, though, that it will become formulaic once persistent storage is implemented. NW corner is pretty much where the stashes would be located I reckon, especially with the shrinking wilderness along the northern border. -
Of course inventing base building and vehicles is much lesser effort and required testing time than installing a new weapon. You really got the point.

So after a time spent on Standalone, here are my thoughts.
LaughingJack (DayZ) replied to Countercruel's topic in General Discussion
Just to make sure...you know that the DayZ engine is not the ArmA 2 engine? It's a complete changed arma 2.5 heli engine. And "the mod had a better foundation then the standalone will ever have" is pure and absolute BS, sorry for that harsh words, but if you state "facts" and "truths" that are obvious wrong you deserve it. So you either know nothing, but still post "facts" that would require knowledge, which would make you an idiot or you know them and lie on purpose...hm. Either way that's not nice. Unbiased perspective? My ass... I'll try to explain with an analogy I used already here: Imagine ArmA 2 as a small house with a shower (the Multiplayer) in in the second floor. Somebody started building a bathtub there (DayZ). The inhabitants were absolute happy, but soon demanded more and more, it should be bigger, have more things, made out of marmor etc. etc. But the stairs were too small to bring the things up, so a crane was put on top of the house and a hole was broken into the side of the house to bring it in. So the bathtub was getting bigger and better, but the house wasn't made for that and it became cracks and the water pressure destroyed the pipes, the floor was hanging through and nearly breaking and the neighbours brats were inserting nasty things in the pipes, since they had to be made outside the house... So, since there was no way to make the bathtub any bigger without completly destroying the house, a new house was built. This time with a bigger stair, hardened, waterproof floor, better pipes inside the house etc. etc. But the inhabitants only saw the bathtub, that was brought upstairs and as soon as water was running they demanded to bath, even if they were told, that it was not as comfortable or shiny or with all the funny extras they knew from the old bathtub, hell not even the roof of the new house was finished and sometimes it was raining straight into the bathtub. But since they were begging and begging, they were allowed to bath - and they complained about the missing of the shiny things they were used to, the cold water that sometimes came out, the rain that fell through the roof, and that these idiotic brats still were able to get to the pipes, because some windows were missing. But you could see that now it would be nice, because the bath would be bigger, better without destroying the house... I really hate to say this but....that's what an Alpha is. Developing new features, breaking things, pushing other features in, breaking more things. And that is totally normal.. That the Engine isn't the best...well that's no question for me. I'm not gonna debate (again) if DayZ should run on snowdrop, Arma3 or unity because, tbh, that is going nowhere. DayZ belongs to BI, BI has an inhouse engine that they want to use and that's it. And, while I also could think of other possible engines for DayZ (just from guessing), I think the used engine is by far not the worst possibility... Ah, and the dev team isn't that small anymore. DayZ has no end. Well, it has an end, the death of the char. But if you don't want to play anymore, because you already have a M4 and vehicles are not in the game, you have two choices: a) play somethign else and come back next year or B) live with it and don't see "gearing up" as the main goal. Pf. Don't tell me what to say. And 1) BI would't have paid the devs for supporting the mod (they also can't chew on lines of code), 2) the limits of the mod (mods) have already been reached a long time ago. There was nothing more that could have been added or bigger changes that could haver been made...well let's say "correctly". So, I look at you as unbiased as possible and say: "You state facts and yell "truths" without having an idea what you are talking about. You know what this makes you? A complete tool." -
How do you think DayZ Standalone is going?
ahmedakbar replied to Zedertone's topic in General Discussion
I think it is going quite well so far. Anyone who buys early alpha content should be ready to experience a partial and buggy experience... My favorite one so far is being knocked unconscious by a guy throwing punches into the air 100m from me while I was shooting at him with my pristine M4 ACOG :D As some people have said before, even with the partial and buggy content we have in this early alpha stage, the game is already quite addictive and fun. I can only imagine that when hunting, vehicles and tents/basebuilding get implemented it will be quite a good step forward from the game, especially if they manage to optimize the netcode in order to host 100 players and more of zeds... -
Spawns On The East, Bet Everyone Thought It Was Stupid...
Bororm replied to jacobahalls's topic in General Discussion
Again, they need to add more than pvp to the game before they should make those sort of changes. I could see spawns around the whole map working when they hit their 150 player cap goal, and implement all the crafting/base building/vehicles and hunting/fishing etc. As it stands, what's the point? The game IS only PvP right now, whether people like it or not, and while I have every bit of hope and really believe they can turn it into something more, right now it's not. So why change these things now, and make the main fun of the game as it stands that much more of a pain? -

soulfirez replied to bioned's topic in General Discussion
What how absurd they are trying to add survival elements to a game being sold as survival horror what is the world coming to isnt survival merely having the most guns??? I think someone bought the wrong game dont fear arma is on sale every other week try it out its an awesome mil sim with more guns than you can poke a stick at( specially with modded guns) I welcome as many survival aspects as possible when the weather is as big an enemy as the zeds and pew pew players... I welcome hunting and bare bones survivval crafting kinda like how i would imagine things would go in a complete and utter breakdown of society and all the luxuries that come with it. With no one making ammo for these guns how long do you think bullets will last when your shooting at the 99% of the population who have turned into zeds ( and in most cases the 1% of humans also ) Thats right let rip full auto your m4 a gun not made in this fictional country sure it would have come with nato forces but how much ammo did they bring how much of it did they use when it all turned to shit.. PvP should always be a part of this game fighting for survival for the dwindling resources but to many of you guys just want to deathmatch to deathmatch and are waiting for bases so you can stock them with ammo guns so when you die you can quickly re arm to deathmatch . For vehicles so you can travel fast to speed your kills how about some of you actually think of how to survive in a survival game rather than how many kills you can get with each life radical thought i know but has none of you noticed there is no K/D score. -
I'd rather they prioritise, in no particular order, these before the very occasional clipping death: Zombies Vehicles Random Character Wipes Desync Vehicles Ladders Loot Respawning Vehicles Hackers Dupers Vehicles That stupid walk like a cripple when faced with a minor gradient thing Also, Vehicles. This is an alpha that is constantly evolving. Expect bugs and you will be pleasantly surprised when you don't get murdered by furniture, gates, mysterious black holes in the map etc.
