"I think it's ethically questionable to implement smoking in a video game, plus it takes away development time from more important feature such as: Vehicles, underground bases, path finding, cannibalism and necrophilia." Smoking weed maybe, but popping some amphetamines might increase your ability to run. But smoking a tabaco would be cool as long as it wasn't tied to a character enhancement

Huge update for our server coming soon. revamped prices, loads of new guns, vehicles, trader items, and new map locations. -
I think as long as its harder to maintain the gun overall i could see it be one of the more balanced guns. It would take TONES of maintenance to make sure the belt feed and everything is in working order. Lets say the since its such a good end game weapon you actually NEED to hunt for parts like with vehicles to put it together. That way every one cant have easy access to them on the servers.

OP, I agree with a lot of the points you made. Private hives do have their advantages. I think the single biggest disadvantage of Public hives would have to be what I think is called "ghosting", where players are able to travel to any point, switch servers, and automatically be at the same point they left on the other server. When tents, vehicles and barricading are implemented, this is going to be a huge drawback unless the devs disallow ghosting, and make you spawn on the coast if you switch servers. So I guess even some of the disadvantages of the Public Hive system are subject to change. Hard to say at this point. -
There is a wide and wonderful selection of literature available in this game so why neglect the other arts? It would be a lot of fun if just like books are scattered around the place CD's were too. They could be played on CD players found in vehicles. I'm sure there are loads of great albums out there that have dirtcheap/no copyright just like the ingame books. Im sure a majority of people posting here are actually posting about information and the way its handled, not about the state of the game, the lack of vehicles or any other "anti-alpha" stuff. If the odd exception in this thread of 1 or 2 people saying "too long too late, h1z1 is gonna steal the throne" nonsense, most of us are discussing the fact that most information is given out on a range of other sites, and you pretty much have to visit all to get a clear picture of whats happening in development of the game. as for those who say read the devtracker, i do, and while some of the information on there is good, alot of it is out of context sentences like "rocket2guns @bob i agree with you" or "rocket2guns @bill we are working on it" and you dont know what they are talking about. or theres links to a picture or video and you click it and its broken sorry but if i had a website dedicated to something I created, I would stop by more often even just to reply to something random or post something i was passionate about, rather than share that info with a small portion of the community through social networking -

I really hope this is a factor when vehicles get introduced. Preferably not like the ARMA vehicle damage system where your vehicle just instantly starts burning and is useless from thereon. Blowing out tires, halving engine blocks, causing rollovers would be awesome. I don't want IEDs to just be guaranteed insta-death for vehicles. Having to get out after striking one, wounded, and defend your vehicle from ambushing players and rushing zombies would be a great experience for DayZ. But not sure if I'd necessarily want AP IEDs, I think loading powder for a breaching charge (i.e. when construction gets implemented) would be a better purpose for that. But not entirely opposed to it! -

Agreed epoch was a horrible way to go for a lot of reasons but origins had some decent ideas. I am just hoping this game turns out a lot more like the early mod and leave out the crap that killed alot of the later mods. I used to love to gather parts to rebuild vehicles and travel around in helicoptors with a bunch of buddies hunting people so far the standalone is showing alot of promise but i think they are spending to much time on aesthetics IE buildings and food items and haven't implemented things like random military aircraft crashes, more variety on weapons, and more powerful weapons. so far we have gotten more buildings a larger variety of food, and weaker weapons, when does the M107 come out, or Night vision goggles -

Okay you have a fair point that it's not ridiculously implausible to find these, but these should be incredibly rare items. It shouldn't become like the mod where everyone is running around with these foreign weapons that just shouldn't be around in that quantity. And as said above, it doesnt match the look and feel of the game so far and I doubt players would want to see these. But also, I used the term anachronistic as the weapons you are suggesting all appear very very modern whilst a very basic, backward east bloc country would likely be many decades behind technology wise. Just look at how they all use russian vehicles designed in the mid cold war. So I was applying "anachronistic" in this case to emphasise how these weapons just don't look like they match up with the weapon style of the game, with an apparent "error in period" between the two, if you want to go super pedantic on me [sigh]. -

Reasons why you should play on our server: Fair and honest adminsNo admin/staff abuse. Stuff is not able to spawn items, and will not have an unfair advantage over other players. right what do we have ???? Zombies - ( no better than the mod , about as threatening as a lamp post , except now in the experimental where the speed up slow down method seems to have been introduced again ) Loot - ( No viable solution to the loot re-spawing , servers restarting every 2 hours ) this is a shambolic situation and all other development should be halted until this is implemented. even the cleaners should be working on loot. Vehicles ( not even a bicycle to get about on, its a big ass map. ) Combat mechanics. ( aiming a gun on Dayz feels like its attached to a barge poll , spasticated movements no real accuracy ) Player numbers , stuck on 40 , how is this not worrying that the servers cant run with more than 40 even with zero content. Adding new clothes . its like the developers are stalling or taking the piss , Here have 3 different colored duffel coats but sorry the basic mechanics of the game are no where near fix. Engine . this is the arma 2 engine , it looks like Arma 2 plays like arma 2 has all the arma 2 bugs etc etc , its the arma 2 engine. Experimental servers ?? why like the OP stated are they not trying all sorts of things , FIX THE GOD DAMN LOOT OR AT LEAST GIVE US A GLIMPSE ON THE EXPERIMENTAL OF YOUR PROGRESS . I loved the mod had 6 servers running at one point over 20 active clan members , nearly shat myself when the standalone came out , but its almost MAY now 5 months and lets be honest what updates have we seen. I think this game is in major trouble and its heartbreaking as it could have been sooooooooo good. the single biggest disappointment for me was in the dev blogs dean harped on about how the Zombie Ai would be dramatically reduced and this would give a big performance boost , but low and behold the game has hardly any content and it plays like shite. absolutely shocking FPS , STILL , exactly the same as the mod and every other Arma game -

they do seem to communicate often via many media outlets be it reddit or twitter or any other place but its not that im bothered about its the actual content and lack of it. by content i mean getting the core stuff done instead of making meaningless objects like hats and more jeans vests. i uninstalled the game about a month ago after playing breaking point because its simply better than this game now. thats a free mod on arma 3. how can that be even possible ? 30-40 million in bank and they cant get things like vehicles and base building done yet free modders have all this stuff done in weeks, yet a 40 man team are still making hats !!! dayz Sa is just a cash in for what was good which is the mod. i dont mind paying for that fun i had it was awesome but this project already too late on a bad engine and now going to be succeeded by others who do it for free or maybe the evil that is sony with H1Z1. such a shame. simple fact is Datz SA should of been made on ARMA 3 engine should of had a team like its got now at the start and they would of had the game done by now . its 2 years late. now sony are going to come in scoop up all the glory cause the people behind the scenes couldnt work out what needed to be done. poor planning maybe restricted by people who knows but the ball was dropped on the gameplay side. you can scream all about sales whether it be 2 million or whatever but the only reason those 2 million brought the SA was because of the mod !! if the mod wasnt out before hand you would of sold 100,000 copies with this current game. so now H1Z1 is going to come in along with free arma 3 mods and scoop up finish what should of been Dayz glory on pc. such a shame . -

Even makers of the ARMA's engine and the game, could not sort out the bugs it has for 13 years. I don't think the final game will be much different than the mod itself and its varients. (Will be slighlty better overall) but won't fill our expectations. It took 13 years to bring a new feature for BIS called Zeus for ARMA. Other than, everything almost same rather than gfx,AI,physics updates and new maps. (Which must not be too proud of because we are at 2014) So, just loose the hype,suck it up and try to enjoy. What Dean trying " is fixing all problems and flaws that ARMA engine has for years (Especially ARMA 2) and trying to improve some bits and bobs, but it's utopia. Will take years and never gonna work out prefectly. Wonder why he didn't pick the Real Virtuality 4 and work on it instead of taking RV3. Prolly he thought about low-end pc users, then again optimization is not even good at all for High-end pc users. I say "put the vehicles/tents/wildlife and drop more clothes in now" leave the rest and forget about the project. We did want Standalone of the MOD to not use the downloaders all the time.And we have the Standalone now anyway :) -

Actually quite a lot did, I myself did not though. If Im desperate for a dose of vehicles and bases then I just hop onto wasteland every now and then. But it's not all about that and I do prefer the feel of SA - not to mention, the mod's graphics are also much worse, so i prefer SA. -

I would like to join you guys and i would prefer either of the 3: Marksman, Team Leader, or combat vehicles. I have sort of a limit at the moment focusing on school so when i can get on varies from 3pm - 9pm est. -
The roadmap sums it up pretty well. these next months are minor things with some major systems being updated. Those major changes are something engine programmers have been working on for months. Summer/fall is when you can expect to see a surge of major changes considering that is when we can expect vehicles and barricading. The later being pointless in the current state of the game.

Yep, I believe for example implementing vehicles definately is a bigger one which takes it's time and still there most likely are plenty bugs to expect. Meanwhile they'll have to test, optimize and fix a lot. Mind, other persistent things are yet to come. Yeah, of cause sometimes I feel like being impatient too but I have faith and know things can take a while. I see the progress and think they are doing a great job. Don't know what to say more. ^^ -
Rocket and your team should concentrate on main elements on gameplay instead of making 100 of new pistols/rifles and mags/calibers! GUN-FETISH ? Focus on thing like cooking/hunting, persistent objects, vehicles and base building! I don´t need 100 different pistols and calibers... :/

Yes, we probably run way to fast. But I don't think they should change it until we get a weight and stamina system implanted. We don't have any vehicles to travel with so it would just annoy people even more.

Yes. Players are too fast. Also its too easy to sprint for long times with sh1t tone of weight. I really think theyll adjust it once we have vehicles :)

The sprinting speed is about 1.5 times faster than the normal speed of an arma 2 character, aproxximately when dirivng with an old hatchbag in arma 2 above grass with 20 km/h, a player could run past you so yeah, we are talking 30km/h or about 9 m/s which is about normal sprinting speed with unlimited stamina and a whole lot of stuff you are carrying i hope this gets changed later when vehicles are added, or else they would not be worth the effort repairing them

Before any changes are made to the character running speed, the most important thing that needs to happen is for players to have a way to quickly meet up with friends. It's not really fun knowing that it will take hours to get to your friend when he spawns on the other side of chernarus. Vehicles aren't an immediate solution to this problem as they are meant to be scarce and hard to get working.

I'd like to share my opinion about the game's current state. I bought this game on 11 April after I read that the price would go up later. I was introduced to DayZ by my friends and we have had so much fun playing the Mod, so I thought lets see the SA. All the things I missed from the mod are present in SA, these are: Extended clothing, you have actual pieces and can mix them to your likingAll houses have interior that can be visitedOld buildings reworked to have more accessible rooms (e.g. hospital)Weapons can be customized -> Visually (painting) and by attachmentsEating / drinking reworked to have more meaning (being energized increases your blood, etc.) Of course the mod misses a lot of things for it is only in pre-alpha, we will have vehicles / tents / wildlife etc. later. All in all: The game will be awesome, has more potential than the mod, more support, better graphics (the engine needs tweaking though). Personally I purchased it to see how it is going and to try and help the creating of the game. Plus I want to have a solid knowledge of the map.
