    Upgrade the gameplay mechanics

    It's sad that the suggestions forum is filled with threads about adding weapons, certain items or auto run key and there's none about the gameplay. At this point of alpha dayz has weak gameplay. What I mean by "weak?. It sure has the adrenaline moments or cool squad battles but it's not enough. It needs more to the gameplay, it needs more mechanics. From what I know so far the only "big" thing everyone is talking about that's gonna be added are tents, vehicles and bases. But it's not enough. We will just have a slightly better DayzMod. The game will get boring sooner or later. You need to add some advanced stuff to the game instead of just adding items and new towns. I'm not saying that you should do it right now. Take your time, 2 years idc. But you should start considering it right now. That's what alpha is for, isn't it?

Hi Survivors I'm just here to promote possibly the very best DayZ Epoch (maybe even the mod in general) server there has ever been it's not my own I'm not an admin or a moderator for this server I am just a survivor who logged on and found out about this gem of the DayZ community the server has active admins always, heroes bandits and all in between plus all the usual elements that come with Epoch such as the common self blood bags and auto refuel+repair for a price, plus quite a few more such as helilift,/towing, added vehicles, more skins(for the DayZ fashion victim) day/night cycle with varying full moon night times, HALO jumps and much more with even more being added weekly. If you as I was sick of the same thing the mod has to offer or you are sick of the constant KoS of the DayZ Standalone or if you are just looking to play an Epoch server with actual goals to it such as AI missions and player created missions and games then head on over to their Facebook page for more information "https://www.facebook.com/groups/705996626134244/?fref=nf".     DayZ Mod 1.8.0.3 Hotfix.

    The knowledge about the position of the engine should reward you with being able to take down the chopper fairly easily. Even though I personally very much prefer to take out the tailrotor of anyone's helicopter, as 96% do not know how to land a heli without it. Just tested that as well, by the way. ATRQ takes three rounds. My feedback is based on over 2000 hours playing the mod, we practise things in the editor all the time to find weak points for vehicles etc too. That doesn't change my opinion that I think MI-17 and AN2 are over powered in their current form with the 1.8 weapon selection. The AN2 requires a skilled pilot of course but we regard it as the strongest vehicle in the game with a full squad and the ability to glide silently for several kilometers. Plus the fact you can just land it and sit in the vehicle using the 3rd person camera with little fear of it or yourself ever being damaged. I know its POSSIBLE to shoot down the mi17 and the huey, the littlebird and the AN2. I've seen it done by members of my squad over the past 2 years or done it myself, but that doesn't change my opinion that its too hard currently to shoot the mi17 or the an2 down. A video of your shooting an MI17 that isn't even in flight won't change my opinion on that. How about one where you put two guys in the front and try and shoot them through the glass :P Then do the same thing when it's flying...
  5. Like I said, there are two schools. One which doesn't view flight as an undue advantage. The other, manifested by you, does. There's a difference between overpowered in innate capability and overpowered in practice. I never thought, whatever capabilities are ascribed to a helicopter, helicopters were overpowered in the mod (based on my own subjective anecdotal experience, which is ultimately all we have). They didn't affect the situation on the ground to a frequent extent, I never had a real issue with them. And when I did, it was more or less my own fault. But that doesn't necessarily matter. Your main grievance is with the visibility offered by helicopters in the act of flight. I'm saying, that in the mod, there was no tangible ability for those on the ground to affect this. So, give them a means of affecting their own visibility (i.e. camouflage). Not to mention the systemic flaws in DayZ which need to be addressed (i.e. manipulating graphics settings and noticeable contrast via HDR). The act of flying around the map is rendered moot if one cannot readily SEE important player structures/positions/vehicles. Which wasn't the case in the mod, tents and vehicles stuck out like sore thumbs (not to mention players with client-side zombie spawns) and there was little one could do on the ground to counter that. Even an un-tailored camouflage netting worked wonders in DayZ+ for me in hiding small outposts. Now, mind you, this isn't the sole fix to the issue you're raising. But it's a way in which the "visibility" advantage offered by helicopters can be mitigated (not removed). The issue for me, with regard to rare/difficult is in justifying the advantages conferred in helicopters (as you're asserting). It's one thing to spawn next to a 100% ready-to-roll armed helicopter. It's another to invest days/weeks in repairing, fueling, arming a helicopter (only to have it be vulnerable to small arms fire when flying anyhow). Plus, I believe that if the mods teach us anything, it's that making things easier/common decreases their value and thus these items are considered disposable. Sure, at the end of the day, you're still flying a helicopter. But it's an investment, one which may not be worth risking in certain situations. And, in making them rare/difficult you're inevitably limiting the frequency of their overall use. So, in other words, you're less likely to even encounter a fully-repaired helicopter in the first place. I am trying to address some of these problems not because I feel they're overpowered, but because others, like yourself feel they're overpowered (for different reasons). Not to mention, having to do things like resupplying and repairing helicopters makes for a deeper investment into the overall system. Vice just letting them come standard with ammo and repaired parts.
  6. Ive come to realize the way you treat people is simply a reflection of self. Innate defects in the quality of their character. Fixable if they realize being kind and positive will always yield better results. I did make sure they were 40/40 servers just so I could find people, probably a silly choice going NW tho cause I couldn't find nothing lol. I don't mind KOSers since it could happen IRL so it's something I look forward too..in a way... Yes I read 3 dev blogs but I didn't read further thinking most of it would be mostly accomplished stuff, that and I wanted to just play the game since I JUST bought it, my bad. I've moved from somewhat disappointed to overall optimistic after thinking about the potential. My levels of excitement. 100+ man server & more zombie - 10/10 Vehicles - 8.5/10 Better performance and less glitches - 7/10 Hunting - 6/10 Hypothermia/Diseases - 8/10 Better AI - 8/10 One last question.. is there an ability to spawn with a friend or near them or do you have to try to find each other first? One last suggestion.. Maybe once the zombie limit raises, a few certain areas that are higher value that are VERY dangerous, a LOT of zombies or different kind of zombies where you would be forced to use teamwork in order to explore that certain area or be James Bond. What do you think?

Northern wars will continue when vehicles are in the game, high end military loot is more exclusive to the NWAF, and when spawns are spread out along the coast rather than just in Berezino/NE area.. You don't need Heli's for Northern wars.. In fact, Heli's ruin squad vs squad combat in the North because they turn it into a contest of who can run back to their body the fastest, and whoever has the helicopter wins, hands down, every time. edit: Some of the highest tension in the game is when you're on foot and you're attempting to loot NWAF and you (or a squad of you and your friends) runs up against other squads/players, because the stakes are the highest in that setting, where nobody can run back to their body and you lose all the loot that you earned on your way all the way across the map.. or you have a vehicle you brought to NWAF, in which case, you probably lose that and you're back on foot on the coast again. With helicopters, that's no longer an issue and it's no longer an even playing field..

    DayZ Mod 1.8.0.3 Hotfix.

    Knowledge about the technicalities of helicopters and other vehicles always was required in DayZ Mod to take down any sort of vehicle. This is simply being smart in combatsituations knowing exactly what you need to do in order to effectively disable any vehicle without having it blow up. This goes for shooting the wheels out rather than just blindly shooting at the car's engineblock, as that way you will lose all the goods that are inside. This knowledge also needs to be applied to helicopters, as the one that has the knowledge is in the advantage of being able to use this. If you do have it, you should be rewarded and almost nothing is impossible in DayZ. That's how it should be and that's why this will never change. For demonstration purposes I have a video I just recorded for you with the DayZ standard Russian helicopter, the supposed "invincible tank" amongst the helicopters DayZ has. People always claim facts in DayZ that are just wrong. Only six rounds from a DMR can completely disable the Russian helicopter: The knowledge about the position of the engine should reward you with being able to take down the chopper fairly easily.     Some RP items and 'minigames'

    In a real zombie apocalypse after the dust settled and only the immune were left the biggest problem they would face after food, water & shelter would be loneliness, depression and (worse of all) mind crushing boredom. Now i'm not suggesting Dayz tries to replicate this by making the game mind crushingly boring but i do think it should offer players other things to do than kill each other, or find the tools to kill each other, or repair the vehicles used to run away/too people trying to kill each other, or build the bases to stop people killing each other. I'm suggesting things that have no survival functionality other than too make surviving worth it. I'm talking about trying to put a little fun and comfort back into a life in the zombie apocalypse: For instance: Chess Board Pack of cards Guitar Harmonica Tea Bags Instant Coffee Cigarettes Pipe Vodka (The books are a great start) I won't bore you with the details of how i think they should be implemented as the devs could likely do it better and you can probably imagine how they might work. Playing cards would probably be the hardest to implement but it would just be so great to be able to pass the night round a fire playing a few rounds of poker while passing round the vodka bottle. If you've played Stalker and seen the groups of survivors chatting around barrel fires then you know what i mean, the RP potential of these items is huge. I guess none of this would be implemented before Beta stage but it would greatly enrich the final game IMHO.
  10. Maybe you don't get it... I'm already used to the idea of helicopters. If they get introduced into the game I will use them. The argument for me is whether they SHOULD be in the game. In the end, my opinion and your opinion don't matter.. It's Rockets opinion which matters. There are obviously going to be people who want helicopters in the game, and there are those who do not. I am (and have been) outlining the reasons why I believe Helicopters ARE NOT GOOD FOR GAME-PLAY. For me it's not a personal issue. I'll survive/thrive with or without helicopters.. If anything, it'll make it easy to adapt back into my Mod play-style, which included hoarding vehicles and stomping camps out. I just don't personally believe this is the best thing in the BIG PICTURE for game-play and overall success/longevity of the game. Whether Rocket puts them in the game or not is of no consequence to me personally. I'm a competitive guy and I have a competitive group of friends who all coordinate and communicate well together, so helicopters are good for groups like mine. But they won't necessarily be good for everyone, and that's the side of the argument I have been vocal for. See that? Yeah.. I am advocating against something that would benefit me, because I try to look beyond my own personal desires and consider things from a larger perspective, because I realize this game is more important than what's FUN FOR ME PERSONALLY. You should try it sometime.

    Will the new AKM suck ?

    Random spawns around the map won't do anything, everyone will still gravitate towards the hot spots or suicide till they're close. It's an extremely forced way of trying to make use of the map, and an incredibly annoying one to those who like to play in a group. If all the best loot is on the west side of the map, and you have completely random spawns, I am going to suicide till I get a spawn on the west side of the map. Why should I run 20 minutes when I can spawn about 10 times in that duration, with a high probability of getting one closer to my destination? It worked fine in the mod to have the best loot inland. It provided incentive to go inwards, then you return to the coast to use the gear or stay up north depending on what you were into. Vehicles spawns and camps got people around the map as well. So did heli crashes. It is easy to get people to use the map, you just provide incentive, the problem currently is there's no reason to because everything you need is right by where you spawn. So put the shit you "need" further away. Random spawns potentially reduce the journey, which is more important than the destination. PvP in dayz isn't purely about who has the better gear. We saw this same thing in the mod, where people grab high end weaponry and go back to the coast to shoot fresh spawns. The result was that yeah, you kill a lot of fresh spawns but eventually you end up dead yourself because a makarov can kill you just the same as a dmr. Fresh spawns are even less defenseless now, punching and melee are very viable. We already see countless examples of groups kitted out camping the coast and eventually being killed themselves because some fresh spawn runs up and knocks them out and suddenly has an m4. I will say current spawns are a lot more crammed together than they were in the mod however, so I agree that they should be further spread out along more of the coast.

    Ahhh id say you saw videos either on the mod of dayz( which has been around since earlish 2012) or those who have illegally modded( and usually having pirated the game to sad that it happens) dayz SA to include vehicles hellis from the mod . These will be added in time and with higher polycount models and better textures and also far more depth to the repair maintenance systems( i hope but pretty sure they will seeing they taking there time with them.) Modding will be allowed in the SA once it is released as a game( or there abouts mod support is a listed coming feature) so really there will be an endless supply of content and play styles available. Early days honestly people asking me about dayz is it any good i reply it will be EPIC but do not buy yet give it time to flesh out more its still very early dayz(pun intended.)
  15. I'm sorry for coming across as such a downer lol. I just never played a game like this and kind of had high expectations, I seen " dayz standalone" videos and they included heli's and vehicles, so I guess they must of been misleading people. I agree with everything you say. In my opinion the thing that would make this more exciting besides all of the coming additions is simply more people. I know you stated it's probably coming soon. But I think that would be one of the biggest 'fun boosters' having more people with more dynamic spawning points so every town would have a higher potential of confrontation instead of like 40% in two towns and down to like 5% in the further towns.
  16. I read all the Alpha warnings. I've also researched things, but as you read, I asked QUESTIONS. I understand lots of things will be implemented, and I also added things that are not on the 'to be added' list. Will it ever be lots more zombies? Will it ever be more than 40 players per server or is that what they wanted? Also is it common to spend 6 hours and not a see a single person? Do you usually end up spending 1-3 hours just holding W before you see or do anything relevant? I know vehicles will be a big change, but also having more than 40 people will as well.

While I would have absolutely no problem with DayZ becoming 1st person only, I think removing 3rd person from vehicles would be a huge mistake unless they completely reworked the way FOV works inside of vehicles. Several problems 1. Your "Real life" FOV is about 100-110, when considering peripheral vision. Your eyes can swivel inside of your eye sockets, and your eyes can focus in and out, allowing you high visual fidelity at varying ranges and degrees of your head being turned. This simply cannot be/isn't accurately simulated in FPS games. 2. When adjusting your FOV in game, you lose image quality.. Everything on your screen becomes stretched out, that's because your screen/resolution only has so many pixels, and the game is forced to fit more "area" into the same amount of pixels, so compromises in quality must be made. This simply isn't the case IRL. 3. Driving a vehicle requires 3 mirrors, and a LOT of use of peripheral vision, and a constant changing of focus.. To do this in game you would effectively have to dynamically adjust your FOV dozens of times a minute, as well as free-look around the vehicle constantly while still attempting to drive safely. Due to these factors (and more), limiting driving to first person only would basically ruin the experience and make driving "unplayable". It's not just a problem with DayZ, it's a problem with all driving games in general. There's a reason why driving simulators, racing games, and huge AAA games like Grand Theft Auto prefer 3rd person mode for vehicles. It's just better. And even if it wasn't, you still haven't solved the inherent reality of having helicopters in a game where the map is only 225²km. Primarily - They offer unparalleled speed, mobility, access, and visibility. Helicopters come with those features no matter how you implement them. Read this and understand it: DESIGN DECISIONS SHOULD NOT BE MADE TO CATER TO MAKING HELICOPTERS POSSIBLE WHERE THOSE DESIGN DECISIONS WOULD OTHERWISE BE UNNECESSARY OR UNWANTED. In short: Don't design the game around adding helicopters.

    You do know that vehicles are going to be completely different in stand alone right in order to have such things as upgrades on cars be possible right ? I am pretty sure the devs had mad max armored cars in mind when they made stand alone.

    Vanilla sucked compared to EPOCH I understand that EPOCH can get crazy stupid with the whole 1000+ vehicles laZor pew-pew servers but that is all just server set up preference. I honesty cant understand how any objective viewer would not see EPOCH as a far superior gaming experience than Vanilla. Its like saying you prefer Windows 95 to Win 7

    Future not good there already deleting and locking post concerning hacking. They got hacked and lost source code. Hacking has been steadly increasing and will rule the servers once vehicles are put in. Hopefully I'm wrong not likely. But when locking and deleting starts its never a good sign lol. They can't get it done simple.

    you all want dayz to be identical to the movies you watch, or walking dead, FOR FUCKS SAKE, the game is not a movie! It is supposed to be authentic, not to simulate the old cliche that a thousand zombie movies brought to the genre. If you can attach 2 tons of metal to a truck and think that you would still be able to drive it, why the fuck do you want to exclude vehicles that are made like that from the beginning? and the most pathetic thing: YOU WANT HELICOPTERS HAHAHAH WTF? so finding and operating a tank would not be possible in a heavy militarized post sovietic region, but finding a fucking chopper and fixing it (cause no one needs a 2 year long preparation course to be able to do it, right? :rolleyes: ) is possible? Cut the crap, you're all just affraid that you wont be able to use half your brain to disable armor in the game, and that your non existant tactics will not be enough to overcome it. I disabled a fucking stryker that was trying to run me over with a m4SD in epoch, literally shot 4 of its tires out while dodging its failed attempts to kill me, for you it must be impossible, as you say they're invincible, they should be even more with the unrealistic damage factors of the mod, right?
