Based on the size of the Helicopter was the range for fuel. When available, They are extremely convenient. I was trying to avoid that, I just wanted a wide range of vehicles to be available for discussion. With buses and sedans multiple people can move at once, and more safely. Motorbikes are good for lone wolves just looking to survive, if they have the gas and a working bike, they can find food and water easily. I also think the noise vehicles make should attract Zeds to the location.

I have a suggestion for buildings within the game that can be explored. The dev's have done a great job creating a variety of buildings to get into, that being said I believe (realistically even) there should be more options. Examples: Weapon spawning buildings - Gun store, Behind the counter of a Bar, or Liquor store Drug/Med Supply Building - Pharmacy/liquor stores Tools/Melee weapons - Hardware store All these kind of buildings can add a level of real survival to this world. We all have these kind of stores, even in smaller towns. This could allow a vast majority of even smaller towns to have a chance of (even a very rare one) of spawning useful items. That being said, I posted this idea in the last patch notes, but I feel like it should be repeated and added to this suggestion. With the new addition of Spray paint (great add devs) I think a great idea would be able to Graffiti up Chernarus, or tag dead bodies with the spray paint. It would add a fun, immersive aspect to the game. Especially after things like vehicles and bases are implemented. You can vandalize other competing clans equipment etc. Could be a lot of fun, I'd love to see this added to the game. Those are my ideas, hopefully they haven't been stated before somewhere that I've missed it. Also.. this is a side plea, not a suggestion. GET AT LEAST ONE KIND OF WORKING CAR MODEL IN THE GAME (Don't give me any of those its alpha, and early excuses, one care model, even if its like 2-5 of them through out all of chernarus would be amazing.)

They will most likely lower run speed and make weight a factor while running when they add vehicles and bikes in the game.
-
Theres no if's when it comes to vehicles mate. Its when, nothing else tbh.
-
 Just because there are no vehicles in-game yet doesn't mean he can suggest it... They will be there eventually and he knows that. It's just an idea for when vehicles are added.
-
Step 1: Implement vehicles.

[Sugestion]Solution To Kos, Server Hopping, Zombie Balance, Gameplay Enhancement...
ronhillultra replied to ronhillultra's topic in Suggestions
Anyways... If anyone wants to talk about this topic... I didn't want to say this is the way the Dayz should be... I am just saying way I see things that would improve gameplay In my mind if rules are the same for everyone than its fair. Im not saying that playing 3d perspective is wrong. I enjoy it too. Even in other games sometimes I would press num enter for 3d person so i can see over the wall. I guess i should of used word balance. 3d perspective just encourages camping because campers are protected. Anyway you look at it..... looking over anything is impossible without exposing your head or using something like stick, mirror and chewing gum. People complain about KOS, campers, snipers that kill new spawns.... well first person would make it much more difficult and you can actually spot your enemies . Unfortunatly Arma had 3d person from day one so dayz inherited this and everyone got spoiled. and want people to stop KOS but they dont mind to make it easy for them cuz they want to be in same protected position. I understand that Dayz devs dont want to piss everyone off... and I doubt they will ever remove 3d person.... I am just saying I would do it for the sake of the gameplay balance and realism. Yea a lot of people would be upset for the cheats to be gone... like server hopping and ghosting... and comfortable no risk 3d person camping. What they would get is much better experience that they didn't know they could have. As i sad I would leave to the server owners and modders to enable or disable cheats like 360 aerial cameras, (wich are especially unrealistic and unfair in vehicles).... In vanilla version I would care more about balance. Wouldn't it be cool if you could have ingame mechanic for 3d person... like finding a smartphone and a drone P.S. Only argument I've heard for public hives is that you cant play with your character... either because server is down or full or just because you dont like playing at night. Well you would have multiple characters... and it would probably force you to play more on the same server. That is a slight inconvenience oppose to sever hoping, loot farming, ghosting and servers dedicated to duping and gearing up.....I would rather be limited to one character one server than have so much cheaters running around..... that are just allowed to cheat by the game system. Not to mention that game development would be faster because they would have one less perspective to worry about. -
Dean mentioned they're going to recreate the vehicles system: most likely including update vehicle models and also vehicle customization (such as metal plate welding, etc).

DAYZ Standalone VS. ARMA 2 MOD version
Salva (DayZ) replied to nickaepi's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
Then you obviously haven't paid much attention to the development of the stand alone. It has never been about it having more content at the start in the first place. Having said that, I agree the mod is more enjoyable for now. There's tons of DayZ variants to be played with more guns, base building, vehicles and what not.. the mod is the full experience for now, but eventually the SA will hopefully bring us something nice too! -
Fatigue is not in the game yet, you can expect your character to stop sprinting after a certain amount of time. He will then need a break until he can make a sprint again. My speculation is that this will come somewhere around the same time vehicles get introduced. The current sprint mechanic is basically a place holder.

Okay so i am on my phone and it wont let me search the forum so i dunno if this tread has already been made, if it has sorry. Also not sure where it belongs so i just put it in here Anywas i digress, i was playing with some friends yesterday and my friend asked hol long it was to go from Debrovka to NEAF(3-3.8km depending on where you start&finish) so we say with all the gear his player has : rifle, mtn backpack, heavy clothes etc it would take us to run that distance in 20mins to 45mins depending on your fitness. My friends character does this run and it takes about 10mins??? Yeah super quick right? I know our character is meant to be "the best" as its survival of the fittest, but ididnt realise he was olympic champion. Thats 1km in 3mins20sec if he ran 3km but yeah thats stupid fast i think he was using turbo But i think that either you should run slower or map should be larger. I know larger map is on the way (think dean confirmed it) and i guess we only run this quickly as a placeholder due to the lack of vehicles, maybe they are gonna make it so this sprint can only get you 300m before you become tired or something

This will most likely never change, its exactly the same in Arma. It is very possible to run an Arma 2 server from home, but without fast internet, its gonna suck, for this exact reason :) Dont expect this to be "better" in final release, as we can expect alot more data (more loot, more zombies, vehicles, etc.) to travel from and to the client, from the server. It could be improved, i guess, i simply dont know enough about the netcode in DayZ to say that. But Arma has shown, they dont really do any improvements in this "corner" of the engine.

The traffic will be even higher once vehicles are in the game.

At first I disagreed, but then I thought about it more, and with the excellent points everyone has brought up, you are absolutely right. So I propose something based on the hive controlled loot thing I heard Rocket talk about a while back. Essentially, it has all the "loot spots" in the various buildings, vehicles and other locations, it then determines the quantity of loot of various types for the whole map, it then distributes the loot in a fairly realistic spread over the whole map, probably with a weighting system for each location, giving certain locations higher chance of snagging at least one item from the right loot category, if not more. Because lets face it, the supermarkets are more likely to have food, the military camps are more likely to have guns/ammo/attachments, however this does give loot of all types a chance to spawn anywhere on the map, however still limiting the actual numbers for the whole server. For example, it might be decided that each server will spawn: 25 primary guns 50 secondary guns 100 melee weapons 1000 food/water items 500 clothing items etc So it will try to keep that many items of each type spawned, with a check to spawn more say once an hour. There is more that could be fleshed out about this system, but that is what I have come up with, would obviously require a lot of testing and balancing to get this to a playable state, but this would ultimately result in anything spawning anywhere, just with weight added where it makes sense.

Time should be taken to get the vehicles right, plus what the guy above me said.

-Vehicles of Chernarus: Car lots across Chernarus stand deserted, loaded with metal, scrap, vehicles waiting for potential. Buses of Elektro, Trucks from the hills, Motorbikes from the coast, and small cars for everything between the lines. The people of Chernarus are faced with the challenge of endless hiking, to dehydrate before coming close to a well, pump, or canteen. Only a lucky few have found the materials to continue on their journey with a set of wheels, and little gasoline they have found. Engines, Tires, Steering Wheels, Corroborators, Fuel Tanks, and more to find to recover a sitting vehicle - That has been raped of materials. Where would you find Gasoline? It's dangerous to try to extract from a fuel station, without the correct skills. What about siphon through a hose, of old vehicles on the road? The possibilities are there, but the vehicles, parts, and liquids aren't. Let me list an example of vehicles one would come across in the World of Survival. Armored Buses (Group transport, town to town - heavy on gas, but convenient for protection, and more.)Off Road bikes (Quick on dirt and asphalt, vulnerability is high sitting on a bike, but point A to point B is quick, and light on gas. Lone Wolf Machine.)Dune Buggies (3 seated vehicle, possibility of machine gun attachment. Mediate on gas, but steady on dirt, great for woodland crossing and steep climbs.)Sedans (Armored or bare, great for transport of 4. Mediate on gas, nice trunk space. Great on asphalt, little traction on dirt at medium+ speeds.)Trucks (Armored or bare, little or big, good for transport of 2-4, heavy on gas, but convenient for heavy items - Engines, Full bags, Offroad Bikes, etc.)Choppers - Hogs - Street bikes (Armored or bare, great for transport of 2, light on gas, great on asphalt, no traction on dirt at medium+ speeds.)Helicopters (Large or small, armored or bare, great for transport of 1-6, mediate on gas, fast from point A to point B, possibility of machine gun attachment. Convenient for heavy items.)In order I have listed images below for a clear perception of what I am proposing: These are just an idea I though I would share with you, DayZ. This is your game, and this is survival. Please discuss your thoughts, please be constructive with your response, and twist the idea into yours, bend it to fit DayZ. I do not want to propose a solid image, just an imagining of what we could encounter in our harsh travels.

>.> Vehicles will be awesome when the time comes I'm sure. <.< One of the things I'd like most right now is tighter melee, that feels... more visceral.

Russia has a pretty cold climate, and since its a survival setting it would be more logic imho that the fuel from the cars remaining would be used to burn fires in heaters etc to keep warm. So probably hardly any gasoline left in the rusty carcasses that will remain. Carbatteries would be taken out massivly to use for keeping some electrical devices working. How else would people check their facebook after the apocalypse ;) . The steel would be stripped off to serve for various new purposes (fortifying sheds, making underground huts, armor, weapons, tools, etc, etc) Same goes for the rubber of the tires, endless ways to recycle that into stuff thats more practical to have then a vroom vroom honk honk machine! And eventually the fuel supply will run drier then a nun's.....*selfcensored before risking a ban for "dirty" language* And then? You've become lazy and fat for driving around, making yourself an easier prey for zombies and perhaps even for cannibalistic bandits on selfcooked crocodile (russian meth, but even worse side effects, for it eats your skin!) Therefor I pray for sabotaging opportunities for the running lone wolfs. Running keeps your body in shape, cars obviously dont , unless you make a Flintstone version of m. There's a country in this world which proofs my point for it has the most cars and also the most obese people ; do the math! ;) Making a timer on a selfmade bomb is pretty easy with use of everyday items that could be looted in houses. So for all those carlovers : better check the bottom of your car, fueltank and engine first before going on another "look-at-us-we-got-car-cruising" raid. Or better, dont , and let those who choose to run enjoy some spectaculair fireworks of exploding car/body parts Please developers : let the lone wolf and hunting survivalists have at least some opportunities to destroy or damage vehicles also. Would love to dig out a huge pitfall for those roaring machines that scare away the wildlife we will so need to survive! Skis would be nice though once the snow starts to fall....

Pending Changelog: Experimental Branch: 0.33.114782
Irenicus (DayZ) replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
Get over yourself. Vehicles will be added when they are ready and not before. There is a shit tonne of stuff to add and fix before that will happen. Oh and in case you hadn't noticed there are vehicles, they're simply all trashed. If you want to talk about realism, it's a couple of years after the zombie apocalypse, so no, there would not be an abundance of vehicles. -
People are forgetting this is not america, or australia, or anywhere with a large population of drivers, one of the devs said if they were to do a map based on an american setting, they would have a more heavy vehicle count, for this though, vehicles are less common.
-
Zombies honestly suck. Anyone can just walk or run around them. I agree with the whole idea of actually being able to survive them (unlike the WarZ zombies) but I feel they should be a little more challenging. Secondly I feel like there needs to be some new content and soon. If there aren't more patches for this game it will slowly die off(like gta V). Add something that will keep the interest in the game. Something like new guns, vehicles, or new maps(all of which are supposed to come in the late future). Thirdly make first person better, it just doesn't feel right. Also please change the M4 first person model It looks like a tiny ass version of its real self. Spawns. One simple word that is one of the biggest problems of the game. Whether it is just loot or player it needs to be redone. Even if it is the early alpha.

Since I'm a newcomer to the whole DayZ experience, I'm curious about how vehicles worked in the mod, hope some of you veterans could enlighten my curiousity. Not because i'm so eager to ride a car or bike though. I actually was kind of surprised/dissapointed to read about the plan to have cars driving around in the surroundings. Imagine hunting wildlife and then some car comes racing by, scarring off the animal you finally got closer to. The animal would be alarmed and run like hell...bye bye potential protein So I'd hope tires can be stabbed flat...fueltanks can be filled with sand/Sugar/whatever does the trick to block/ruin the engine. Perhaps the spraycan can then also be used to paint the windows black, forcing the carowner to smash them to regain sight again. There's endless possibilities for other usage of the rubber from the tires also, And no, im not thinking of tireswings for near the campfire... Bikeframes could have a new purpose for tentpoles, stuff like that...

Ministelis replied to rocket's topic in News & Announcements
I think I should have clarified better when posting. "Working cars" is what I mean be the amount of vehicles. I like your idea of having to read manual's to fix the cars. also batteries do not last forever and we wouldn't be able to charge our batteries unless we found some sort of solar charger. -
Fix The North West Airfield (Nwaf) [Civilianize]
Hetstaine replied to alaskafish (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Hopefully they do some work to the airfields in the future, as it is they are really sparse. Car parks with plenty of vehicles, light planes and helis, fire and medical infrastructure. Balota needs to be just a small civilian airfield as does Krasno. NWAF is the obvious choice for the larger civvie/military field. -
1. A minor exploit worth living with. If you stand in front of a cliff, don't be surprised if a breeze carries you off it. 2. Well shoot, if a hacker could exploit it to harm people on a PVP server, then by all means, cancel any thought on PVE!!!! Oh, those guns that could be exploited by a hacker, let's go ahead and cancel guns. Vehicles exploited by hacker? Get rid of those. Just eliminate anything that could be exploited by a hacker. Oh, no game left. Really, that's a non argument there. 3. Sorry, not true. In terms of programming, having no friendly fire (make all players 'friendly') is one of the easiest things there is.
