I'm not sure looks would be my biggest concern after the apocalypse. Sure, being intimidating or sending a visual message does work, and it is a video game, so obviously cool-factor is more notable. However, ultralight aircraft would be incredibly effective if you had them available, as they can take off and land in much more variable terrain than say a C-130. They don't necessarily have to add the one he chose specifically, but ultralight planes are probably the most plausible of any others (gliders could be too, but where would you launch them from?) Regular small/medium planes and helicopters are still going to be the bulk of remaining vehicles, but nonetheless.

Hey man. I suggest you read the dev blog. That way you'd have known the answers to your questions. This time it's free: Pathfinding is worked on and some progress have been made. Vehicles is a no-go until physics is in. -
What we do is we look at DayZ mod and go what was fun in that? Vehicles, yep vehicles where definitely fun! Ok lets put that in. There will be servers (when mod tools are released) that might have no vehicles but they will also have people playing them because most people find vehicles fun. While your fear is valid (and it will happen) as long as there are other things to do in the game then it shouldn't become a major problem. For example in the mod there was always a few dick heads who hung round Elektro with .50 cals lighting everything up but they are the minority and then as soon as base building was introduced it hardly ever happened. Plus there is always going to be people who like to come and kill the spawn killers. Stay hidden and get off the coast should be your motto as a freshie.

To be honest, my ulterior motive for 'no cars' is that I am worried about fresh spawns becoming even more outmatched. I would rather face one dick with a shotgun than a dick with a shotgun and a truckload of friends. The existence of vehicles would allow bandits to work together to dominate servers, and they would cruise along the coastline, hunting bambies for fun! Why add an even greater power imbalance to the game if it isn't even realistic!

In a country like Chernarus, you'd be able to find private supplies of fuel in homes and whatnot well after. It'd be hard, but possible. As far as keeping a car working, the kind that would be available in Chernarus means yes, it'd be pretty hard to keep anything working. I personally hate vehicles and everyone that has one in DayZ.

The videos that you have seen were more than likely DayZ mod. Vehicles have not yet been implemented in DayZ retail, but will be later in development.

There is no engine like SA's engine. It looks like A2 in terms of graphics and that's it. Vehicles, weapons, the entire movement system, ballistics, the inventory system, the clothing system. All is different to both A3 and A2. Maybe the graphics were taken from an existing engine, but that's hardly enough to say that it's just an existing engine minus unnecessary things. I'll tell you right now, that it most certainly took lots of work to build the engine. Work that needn't be spent on a mod. It's ridiculous to say that creating an entire game takes the same effort as making a mod. -

Tanks helis jets, repair rearm refuel, all basic scripts including self BB, towing/life , etc. Active Admins and scripters. No burdensome rules, high fps and low ping. We are open to player suggestions and easily accessible. We are also in this for the long run so no need to worry bout your hard work being deleted. Custom traders sell all guns and arma vehicles for reasonable prices. Napf is an awesome map if you are tired of Chernarus. We will be adding more and more content each week after we make sure the scripts we make are solid and well written and don't hurt server speed. Impression of Standalone (from a DayZ Mod Veteran)

It's kinda stupid to compare a mod with a standalone game. Mod is a modification, meaning you can throw stuff at it but you'll always be limited. Standalone means that you can improvise, do whatever you like, but it's obviously going to be more difficult and time consuming. Let me break it down to you: Standalone: huge content potential, but very time consuming, can modify anything, including the engine. Mod: some content potential, easier to throw stuff at, but cannot modify the essentials, including the engine. Therefore: Progress in mod will be faster, but limited. Mod wouldn't be able to use the inventory system that the SA already uses. Same goes to the clothing. These are just examples. Conspiracy theorists like OP tend to be wrong. The whole gaming industry is a lie? Tell you what, one day, hopefully sooner rather than later, we'll have fixed zombies in an unexpected experimental branch, then vehicles, etc. Just give it time. You can't make a perfect DayZ in a year. -
If you're running a private server, it would be best to use this build, as it's been updated to work with 1.8.1 already: https://github.com/Pwnoz0r/DayZ-Private-Server From there you can add more spawnpoints or edit the already existing vehicles.

One of My Fav Episodes ever!! Yea i know what you meant with Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality. Personally the Oculus with that little walking thing the other company developed looks awesome, that would keep gamers in shape when it came to FPS and what not. I just wish that type of thing would get here sooner. I look at it like i look an green energy, it will more than likely end up like the 3D TV's. The big console markets would never let something like that hit the market without them being able to profit. Much like renewable energy driven vehicles. Sure we can make a mustang drive on Alge or what not, but why would we do that when the bigs have no stock in it. Obviously a big dif between the two, just my view on it. Now a VR Football Game, or Myst like game would be amazing!

I loved playing a woods-dwelling lone wolf in the Mod. Survival was difficult (pure Vanilla servers - no shonky loot tables or 1 million vehicles) and I avoided other players and the larger towns/cities unless my character needed medical supplies. My initial hope was that the SA as released in Alpha would be the vanilla Mod without hacking. I expected very little of the engine's issues to be fixed out of the gate and also expected some new problems because of the framework overhaul. Currently, I'm taking a break from the SA as surviving is not a challenge unless you get rubber-banded into a group of heat-sealing, teleporting zombies. As all player interaction is KoS, even when unarmed and backing away while communicating over Direct, I usually get bored of sitting in the woods all geared up with 50 cans of beans and go hunting people. Which I'm very bad at. My long-term hope is that the SA makes PVE survival even more of a challenge and fixes all the serious issues the Mod had without a PVP fest with 1 million different guns and helicopters. -

Setting up a base in Epoch is extremely time consuming, and you cannot buy infinite building materials, as traders have stock. I also find an excitement in spending a lot of time earning gold and then putting it all to use in buying a small car or a cool gun that I wanted. Trust me, it is not easy to get gold in most servers. Just by doing missions alone, there is a 4/5 chance you will get either slaughtered by the AI or killed by another player attempting the same mission. It is very high risk in everything that you do, and losing your epoch character is actually worse than losing your Dayz character, because your epoch character has all the keys to your stuff, and there is an extremely little chance you are going to get them back. In many ways, epoch is much more harsh than Dayz. You can spend weeks preparing a base only for it to be raided and all your vehicles destroyed. I get much more angrier when losing a vehicle that I bought than when losing all my gear on a Dayz character. -

Alright, Just by reading that opinion I can tell that you have no clue what Epoch really is. Do some servers have tanks and gunships? Yes, those are called "Militarized" Servers. However, you will find the vast majority of Epoch servers only have Vodniks or Humvees as the most powerful vehicles, and you will find almost none of them have RPG's. Also, Sky bases? Are you kidding? There is a thing called base maintenance and you cannot have gigantic bases, it is impossible to maintain because your base will disappear if you can't maintain all of it. I know many more people who like Epoch better than regular Dayz, simply because it offers more. With AI Island and Missions, the game is made sure to never get boring, as you keep raiding missions and competing with other clans, and base raiding is also the best aspect of the game. It sounds to me like you are completely ignorant of Epoch and have no clue what the actual game is. I am not being disrespectful to a mod, it just irritates me when someone who has no clue about a topic tries to shunt their ignorance in front of everyone else. -
The server I play on must be different. No tanks, there are armored vehicles but mostly of the light APC variant. No gunships, just a couple stripped down choppers with a limited amount of middles. The zombies are roughly the same in number but are mean. Enough that they can be a real problem. And ya you can buy stuff but epoch is based a number of years after the outbreak. So vendors would be a reality. I do agree that the sky bases are silly and need to be tweaked to limit height. But the general idea is great. The reality is that IRL not long after the end of the world... I would be finding a place to lock down and secure. Randomly wandering and camping in the woods we be a bad plan at best

Yeah, acquiring things here (especially aircraft) is a challenge. The AI here are also pretty tough. Reaching the point where you have a base, cash, weapons and vehicles is a long process and adventure itself. Everything is an achievement on this server. And technically, no, you really don't need a safe or lock on your doors, but many (myself included) opt to use them anyway for peace of mind. -

Thats not the debate here, there are legit uses for controller, for example i use G13 for character movement with a mouse on the side for aiming... Some people use a controller this way with a mouse to aim..some people have a controller on the side for vehicles in the other Arma's... if we want a controller VS keyboard/mouse debate thats another topic- but WSAD is not nearly as good as a joystick for character movement... One can move in 360 degrees and gradually change their player from walk to sprint..one can raid a house without toggling to walk..just push the stick less.,.it helps massively for positioning your character or when looting..So learn about something before you hating :D -

Vehicles will most likely be pushed to Q4. Also, I am positive there won't be a patch tomorrow. You have to remember wednesdays are mainly just for maintenance. How does loot respawn make it more "survival" like? While, I know it's good, it does not make it more challenging. They are working on a fix though for the rubberbanding.

the clunkyness and negative mouse acceleration of dayz the mod made people less capable of zig-zagging around like bunnys on speed, it also was limiting the speed of the players more, though i think this will be adressed once vehicles are implemented my point is that making the game more accessible and easy to control will only reward the KoS bullshit going on, and more and more destroy the feeling of a survival game what do we have that is characteristic of an arcade style shooter right now? near instant turning sprinting like an olympic for an hour taking multiple bullets that would kill a bear and run away random bullet spread beyond good measure my f*cking problem is that they are doing the same stuff to DayZ right now, in order to satisfy a larger audience, that SOE did with planetside 2, which has good gunplay and its good moments, but absolutely awful metagame and looks like a battlefield 3 clone, though it should have been planetside 1 with updated graphics and bigger maps and more players, which would have been awesome i can only hope that they will rebalance the whole gunplay at some point, adding more sway, way less random dispersion, dexterity that will force you to take half a second aim before accurately firing after turning, and actual limited movement speed while prone or crouched you just can not hold people up at the moment because they can fling around and shoot you in an instant, or they run away like roadrunner on acid, you have to shoot them to get their gear

DayZ mod better then Standalone?

Bought the Standalone in February, played it up til April. Then BI had that 75% off sale on Arma 2 CO around late March, thought "heck $6 I'll give it a shot". Been playing mod since then, haven't touched SA at all. Way more variety, via the various submods epoch namalsk etc. More design features. Better game. If I get a hankering for pretty graphics I play Arma 3 mods. Might get back to SA in 6 months if any degree of housing / vehicles are ever implemented -
I wouldn't expect vehicles or Barricades in Q3 in fact i have the strongest feeling that most everything presented in the road map has probably pushed back a ways, May was not a successfully updated month that means one content release dead line has been missed so far.

I think cars/vehicles will spice things up a bit. Apart from the NW airfield, I never run into player inland. Survival on its own isn't challenging if you're on a server that resets often. It remains to be seen what loot respawning will do; if they stop restarting servers every hour then it could get interesting. All this hunting stuff is great if you're into it, but I don't see it being required at all for survival. Basically, once you've stuffed your gut after looting the nearest town, you just need a Pipsi every 20 minutes to stay in good shape.
