If you think that's my idea, then you haven't been reading my posts very thoroughly. I have never said we shouldn't have a wide variety of weapons. I've simply said that we should NOT have WEAPON REDUNDANCY. The Blase95 vs the Mosin is not a fair comparison. They do not fill the same role or even perform the same. The point of my original post on this topic was that a lot of people in this community are pushing gun ideas.. Everyone wants a little bit of everything. Everyone wants their favorite weapon. Everyone wants this gun and that gun, and if Dean was to take everyones suggestions, there would be every gun in the world, in the game. I'm saying the weapons that get added to the game should fit the following criteria: 1. It should fit the theme/aesthetic/location of the game. A lot of weapons which are common in the Eastern Block. 2. Most weapons should be Civilian.. Which that alone allows for a ton of variety. 3. A few high level, military grade weapons, but only those which fit into the game.. AK's, SA-58's, etc. 4. Mimimize application redundancy. As I've stated many times, we should not have weapons which are clearly the "same" except for a different model. IE - 2 weapons which fire the same round, have the same ROF, muzzle velocity, magazine, etc.. This is not "good game design". 5. There should be a balance to selecting a weapon which requires some thought.. Currently, the Mosin and the Blase95 fire the same ammo, and thus have the same damage levels, but they have different applications. The Blaze95 is better for close/mid range engagements, where as the Mosin is better "in the long run", if you have the time or survive long enough to pick up a PU or LRS, and some attachments to modify it with.. But if your life is in immediate danger, the Blase is probably a better option. The M4 vs AK is another good example of this kind of "choice".. If I had to choose between picking up an M4, or an AK, I would go based on my personal preference, and the kinds of engagements I think I would be more likely to run into.. The AK has a stronger round, but the recoil is harder to control. The M4 is better for close/mid range engagements, and the AK is better for tap-firing/single shot firing across a little longer range, and making your shots count.. Alteratively, the AK is better against vehicles/heavier armored targets, where the M4 is almost useless in those scenarios. It doesn't matter that BF3 and DayZ are completely different games. Designing a quality game uses the same concepts no matter what genre. Furthermore, to those who make the argument "some guns are going to be more common/rare!".. ...That only makes a difference for your first 1-2 hours playing the game. After that, all guns are equally accessible, especially when they introduce loot-respawning mechanics. The DMR was more rare than the Winchester... but how many people were carrying a DMR on your average Vanilla server? Probably over half. Furthermore, the SVD was one of the rarest guns at one point.. And how many people would pick that up over the DMR? VERY few. Why? The DMR was better.. you had double zoom, you could use night vision while using the scope, it had a faster ROF, more rounds in a magazine, the ammo was easy to come by and it was just as powerful of a round as the SVD. Thus, the SVD was a niche weapon that people only picked up if they REALLY had a passion for that weapon, which is FINE, but it's also bad game design.

True, that would be great if we got regeared, but I don't see an easy way to accomplish that without making a gigantic loophole. Course, I'm no programmer, just some mod making experience. I guess just personally I'm willing to sacrifice being wiped if it means the game gets all the gear/vehicles/etc in faster, so that they can then focus on stabilizing the game without having to go through the process every single time something is added. I just don't know if you can really have a stable alpha with the real virtuality engine. (lol even the finished game always has those memorable bugs we all love)

Solving problem of kill on sight - Vehicles.
Weedz replied to Outroduce's topic in General Discussion
This is what will happen when we have vehicles. This is a pretty good example of the "humans would band together if there was a huge world ending crisis" idiocracy people spew about too ... yeah, they would band together .. in groups who would go around killing and stealing what little supplies remain to survive. -
Because they can lock all people out of the server and play with their friends, kick cheater and...well....spawn 10.000 vehicles :) Nah I'm just kidding, but I also don't understand why a private hive is any good against a bug exploit of an alpha...

Like someone else posted previously. You add persistent storage and it becomes a different game. Add vehicles on top of that and it will become another different game. There are countless bugs at the moment but we are seeing improvements. I am in the same boat as you to be honest, but I'm willing to wait it out and keep playing as the game gets better. Hopefully when you come back it'll be going the way you want it to :)

Oh joy... Another KOS right/wrong thread covered up with the thought process that vehicles will change something. Maybe laser beams and space ships will make people not want to kill each other. How about trains? How about helicopters? All of these things will surely make the KOS "problem" go away... Please go play yourself some Arma 3 or any other number of games where vehicles exist and witness the LOVE and lack of gunfire! Take in the fresh air, maybe catch a hike or have a picnic! Yes, VEHICLES ARE THE KEY!!!!!! -

HIHBGaming replied to Outroduce's topic in General Discussion
All vehicles will do is give players another reason to shoot you in the face for it. Will it give us something else to do? Yes Will it stop KOS? Hell no! When implemented, vehicles will not be an easy thing to acquire and when you do acquire one you will most likely be shot for the one you have. You WILL be shot for your bicycle! Will KOS ever be gone? No, but making that KOSer have to think about taking that shot in the first place is a good way to diminish it. Zeds as a threat and getting swarmed by taking that shot is one thought that must be taken into consideration now. -

Yep, vehicles would really give us something more to do, while right not you just do nothing, i mean scavenge -> gear up -> go to (for example) Elektro -> kill everyone -> die -> repeat everything once again. Tents/huts (servers with save, so we finally will have to play on ONE server) would give us even more things to do. But the best of all of time eaters would be fishing. GIVE US FISHING, FISHING IS A KEY TO EVERYTHING! -

We could solve the problem with KoS if we gave him some more vodka, until he can't type anymore and... ...what? wrong KoS?...oh... Yeah, I just wanted not to say "strange idea" as in "more content will solve KoS" - like The End. pointed out: "And what if players have all end-game gear AND vehicles? Will they... run over on sight?" They key to reduce the part of KoS that evolves out of boredom is not more content but a harder game. The more unforgiving the environment is, the harder it is to stay alive and to acquire loot, the more people have to do to actually stay alive, the less bored they are, so they wont spend hours sniping, waiting for someone in electro etc. -

Mr Jizz replied to Outroduce's topic in General Discussion
I don't agree with you, and KoS is bullshit.. BUT ^the imagery of this is too funny.. The problem is that once you've played this game for a while, you get a taste for certain items and weapons you want. To get these things is difficult (getting an LR scope is damn near impossible these days) and requires a lot of running. That said, the process of running around, looting, banditry, trading, etc. requires a lot of time, and that investment of hours of gameplay leads to an unconscious attachment to your character. This is really the difference between the two play styles. The other style is what I would call "speedball" DayZ... this is where they start each new life like they know they are going to die again within the same session or likely the very next one. Like Matt Damon in Elysium, only Jodi Foster isn't going to let you use her cancer tube and you know it. Whether or not they actually would die doesn't matter; playing like you have nothing to lose leads to a more direct, reckless approach to looting and confronting other players. When these two styles of play collide.. the forum blows up with KoS love/hate flame-bait debates and we run in circles. Vehicles would do two things: (1) they would create and new set of objectives for both types of play (for example: find a perfect drive-by whip versus crafting a respectable auto) and (2) it would reduce the amount of time needed to travel between points of interest on the map for acquiring desired loot, thus reducing the investment of time needed to fashion/equip your character in your own image leading to reduced character-attachment. -

How would vehicles stop KOS? In my mind that would just let people camp in the bushes along a road or in the mtns along a roadway and pick people off as they drive by. That's an even bigger incentive because not only will you have their gear, you'll have a brand new car. Even a two man bandit team with a dedicated sniper and a fire support guy would waste anybody driving down the road Not that'd I'd do such a thing though... -

If you actually did some research before posting, youd knew, that vehicles arent coming til late spring - early summer, you make it sound as if adding vehicles is a few days job.Its the stupidity that is killing me, if you are bored, why the heck are you still playing the game?Do a break or something, wait for new feature etc, like me. -

First off, KOS will never go away. Yes I think it will get better as more options become available to players, but it will never completely disappear. As for vehicles, right now it would just lead to cruising with M4s and then you have a KOS drive-by situation. -

Outroduce replied to Outroduce's topic in General Discussion
You didn't understand what i mean't... I mean that adding vehicles will give players something to do different from camping for players... That's also way to decrease huge amount of boredom. -
Agreed. I don't even know what all the fuss is about. There is undoubtedly going to be some sort of accurate 7.62 sniper in the game at some point and that does the job equally well at least. A .50 cal would be complete overkill in DayZ. Let the fools have their overly huge gun that compromises their position, is awfully cumbersome (a gun like that should have twice the sway in-game) and kills in one shot. I'll keep my 7.62 light sniper rifle that's dead-on accurate and knocks out in one shot, if not kill. It might be problematic for vehicles, though.

If you think vehicles will do anything to deter KoS you never played the mod. People and bullets are drawn to vehicles like magnets. You think people who shoot you for no reason now wouldn't shoot you if they see you driving by in a car? -

Youre right. End game gear ---> nothing to do. Vehicles is the key to this problem, even tho i would love hunting and cooking first (bow <3). Bikes are confirmed, but how long it will take, its mystery.
